Ian Clark Leads Warriors to NBA Summer League Title (VIDEO)

The undrafted rookie proves Summer is Serious.

Behind Ian Clarke’s 33 points, the Golden State Warriors won the 2013 Las Vegas NBA Summer League championship, a 91-77 triumph over the Phoenix Suns. Clarke took home MVP honors. Per NBA.com: “Ian Clark is the essence of Summer League. The 22-year-old out of Belmont was the Ohio Valley Conference co-player of the year. He was a two-time defensive player of the year and a four-time all-conference selection. He never shot below 40 percent in a season from behind the arc. At the June 27 NBA Draft at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center, Clark’s name was never called. Undrafted and looking for his big shot, the unheralded, and mostly unheard of Clark — not Kent Bazemore or Draymond Green, but the 6-foot-3, 175-pound Clark — carried the Golden State Warriors, with seven 3-pointers and a game-high 33 points, to a 91-77 victory over the Phoenix Suns in the inaugural Summer League tournament championship game. [...] ‘Hopefully,’ Clark said of making an NBA roster after besting his career-high at Belmont by one point. ‘I just wanted to come out here and play hard, and I think that’s what Summer League is for, to come out here and showcase your talents.’ Before the championship game, Clark had averaged 9.0 points, scoring 54 points in the previous six games.”

This reminds me of my old summer leagues, where you kill the whole tournament, some other schmuck goes ham in the title game and walks off with the MVP trophy you lead the team to. lol

I was that schmuck once lol

So proud of this guy right here. This really is a lesson in perseverance. For a guy who put in work at Belmont for four years in a little known conference and went undrafted, this dude took it in stride and went off in BOTH summer leagues. In case some of you guys don’t know, he played for the Miami Heat summer league team and had the team high in most of their games. Then went on to play for the Warriors to average close to double figures for them BEFORE this 33-pt game. This guy needs to be on someone’s roster. He’s a diamond in the dirt. It would be funny if the Pelicans got him after Rivers talked that trash to him in the Duke vs. Belmont game opener. LOL. Clark about to show off!

I’ll admit that it was horrific defense on him (if it any at all) but to still have that type of shooting (12/19) is pretty good. Plus he had to take advantage of it since he didn’t get drafted. Besides he played in the Orlando Summer League for Miami and had the team high in most of their games. And the Orlando SL was much more physical and defense-oriented than Las Vegas. So this 33-pt game is NOT a fluke.
