Mason Plumlee Dunks All Over Kentavious Caldwell-Pope (VIDEO)

Our first sick Summer League throwdown.

Orlando Summer League is underway, and it looks like we’ve got our first real highlight—it comes via the Nets-Pistons tilt, during which rookie forward Mason Plumlee posterized Pistons rook Kentavious Caldwell-Pope.

Brooklyn made a nice choice with him. These short sleeve jerseys the NBA is trying to put in look ridiculous though.

  • Vince

Plumlee brothers are making some serious noise in Summer League!

  • spit hot fiyah

the most impressive thing is that he didn’t even take of his warm up shirt that he bought second hand at the salvation army.

  • spit hot fiyah

hickson to nuggets for 3 years 15 mil for those who care

  • RKJ92

Man the rooks are struggling today.. I think I was really only impressed with Kelly Olynik, and the Plumlee brothers (albeit Miles isn’t a rookie he put on a hell of a shot block clinic) the other rookie’s seemed like no matter what they did they couldnt find their shot.

  • theDankerNuggets

it’s gotta be Adidas pushing these, hope they don’t last though

  • Vince

Yeah, I just assume they’ve got stage fright, I mean, this is huge for them, a bit of nerves is understandable. I reckon they’ll be better next game.

  • cbb_fanatic

Loving these rooks right now…even the less known ones. Plumlee battling as we can see from the clip. MCW put on a show once he got used to the speed and physicality of the game (didn’t take him long). 26 pts, 7 rebounds, 8 assists (only thing he got to work on is his TOs). Victor Oladipo showed out too. Don’t know what games you guys were watching but a lot of these rooks played well today!!! Even Ian Clark from Belmont (Miami Heat SM team) had the team high. I love REAL competition!!!

  • Junior Taylor

Andre Drummond could be in running for DPOY ever year if he puts him mind into going all out and focusing on the defensive end.I saw him erase about 6 shots and had the announcers comparing his quick hands to Hakeem.
Tony Mitchell is another guy with immense defensive potential, same goes for Peyton Siva, enough though he lacks size.
Summer league is real enjoyable for a basketball junkie like myself.

  • Junior Taylor

Agree. Most of the games started off sluggish then got significantly better as the game wore on.

  • RKJ92

MCW shot 30% on 26 shots, to me that’s not impressive though I applaud him for the 7 rebounds, and 8 assists, with ability to get to the line, but that doesnt make up for his shooting %, and turnovers resulting in the 8 point loss. Secondly Victor Oladipo played SOLID, and nothing more then that or your overhyping it. Looking forward to next weeks games, hopefully they get better.

  • Caboose

    Oladipo looked great….

where are you watching these games?

  • MACARONI

    niiiice!!

  • RKJ92

He looked SOLID not great, Olynik did great… compare there games today and tell me Oladipo did better. This isn’t me bashing Oladipo either because he is my ROY darkhorse but im not gonna sugarcoat him either even though I like him aswell.

  • Caboose

Olynyk fouled out in how many minutes? I admit, Kelly had a much better offensive game, but Oladipo looks like a Tony Allen product already.

  • cbb_fanatic

First of all, MCW shot 36% on 23 shots (not 30% on 26). That still may not be as “impressive” but take a look at what some other rooks (and former rooks from last year) did in their very first summer league game. Besides, MCW is more of a passing guard (hence the 8 assists). If you actually WATCHED the game you would have seen how aggressive and physical they were playing against him, but he has my upmost RESPECT because he didn’t whine and cry about it like some other rooks (and former rooks) did; he BATTLED through it. And on a lot of his attempts, he was being fouled (because you can’t foul out in a summer league game). Sorry, but you would have had to actually WATCH the game to see the star potential in this guy. He flirted with a triple double and proved many things: he can get to the charity stripe and make it count (10-11 FT), he can be a valid floor general and get the ball where it needs to be (8 assists), and he’s not soft. As far as the turnovers…THIS WAS HIS FIRST GAME. He had to get used to the tempo of the game in the first half, but he quickly adjusted in the second half. He’s a quick learner and has a lot of heart. And so does Victor Oladipo.

  • RKJ92

    Okay
    .
    A) I don’t know why your putting words in my mouth, I never once said “he was soft” – or – “he never had star potential”, in fact I think he has a GREAT skill set, and will make it far in the league if he keeps his head on straight — he showed aggressiveness and didn’t push over once I credited his ability to get to the line drawing fouls, his rebounding for a big pg, and ability to find the open man with 8 assists so why did you feel the need to explain that to me again as if I hadn’t pointed it out already? who do you think you are?
    .
    B) Why are you telling me I wasn’t watching the game? I’m sorry, so you were there with me? you think I don’t have access to watching games? you implying I am not capable of such a feat? kind of insulting if you ask me. So.. because I guess on his shooting, and % from what I remembered after the game means I never watched it? excuse me? it means I have a life to attend to, and I quickly respond based on what I remember but if need be I can if I want to pull up the stats no issues. Unfortunately I didn’t think I would be harassed for missing 6% and 2 shots.. childish if you ask me really.
    .
    C) I get that this was his first game.. no shlt! but you took this comment wayyyyyy too far. I never discredited him I just said his SHOOTING % (and yes he got fouled so what? a lot of players do.. LeBron, Kobe, Harden), and TURNOVERS weren’t impressive. That was implying to TWO things, the rest of his game were awesome! So stop acting like I called him a scrub, and pull your thumb out of your ass.

  • RKJ92

    A) You don’t foul out in summer league it’s where you learn to adjust to NBA play style, ergo it doesn’t happen.
    .
    B) Kelly had the better all around game yesterday IMO (but that’s okay if we don’t agree it’s obviously our opinion), where as Oladipo looked like a defensive beast with a tonne of energy, and offense that could be polished a bit more.. it’s his first game though, I’m not saying this is who he is because 100% he will be a tonne better which is deff scary! but if he can get his t/o’s under control and shoot close to or better then 50% like he did college. Like I said.. my darkhorse rookie of the year.

  • RKJ92

Couldn’t agree more! I’m excited to see them develop more as the games go on, Hopefully Bennett can play like an Elton Brand like player (with 3 point range) in summer league, continuing into the NBA so he doesn’t get labelled as a bust #1 overall because nooooobody expected him to be there (so I’m really pushing for this kid) not JUST because he’s Canadian as well lol! ;)

  • spit hot fiyah

    and 9 turnovers

  • spit hot fiyah

u know we are officially nba super nerds when we check the box scores for summer league right?

and agreed on drummond. main thing for him is learning not to foul and improving his conditioning so he can stay efficient for longer stretches of time.n

  • Sardo Numspa

I will pay someone $52/hour to follow you round and spam everything you do for the next six months you capitalist swine!

  • cbb_fanatic

LOL…This guy. I just came back to this post to re-re-watch this poster…LOL. And saw this guy’s comment.

    1. I never put words in your mouth. Unlike you, any idiot could see that MCW performance had way more positives than negatives. The way you’re commenting on everyone’s statement by highlighting all of the negatives shows that you are immature and cynical. He had a good game with the exception of the turnovers and MAYBE the percentage (considering the fact that no one else on his squad was attempting much or hitting much). Period. That is all. He does not need a nobody, Internet bully like you to tell him what he didn’t do. Who do you think YOU are? Seriously…
    2. Common sense says that maybe you should have all of the FACTS before you comment on the game. All this crap about “from what I can remember” and “I have a life” needs to stop. Yes, what you have to “attend to” is so important that you decide to come back and add a negative response to everyone’s comment about how well the rooks performed. THAT, sir(or ma’am) is childish.
    3. I didn’t take your comment(s) too far. You are on here saying that the rooks “struggled” like they didn’t do ANYTHING right. You only point out what went wrong and not how they adjusted to it. You talk as though MCW and the others were suppose to step on the court and put up All-Star stats. You even now have the ridiculous mental to compare how well MCW can take contact to how Lebron, Kobe, and Harden take contact? Are you serious? ACT like you know it’s his FIRST game then. They can’t even make some shots if fouled a certain way!
Like I said…This will be my last time commenting on your stupidity and cynicism. I literally don’t have time for this. I just wanted to comment on how well the rooks did, not be hassled and bullied by some negative jerk who has NO idea what he is talking about. Oh, and P.S.—that thumb in the butt comment…you seemed all too well acquainted and comfortable with that gesture. Who says stuff like that? Keep it to yourself!

  • ATL dynamite

Tony Mitchell have all the talents in the world, he just needs to pay attention to how the game flows and stop slacking off. A steal for DET no matter what.

  • RKJ92

How am I an “internet bully? childish? an idiot? immature? cynical? a nobody?” and your the one calling out names here.. smh -.- all I said was he is going be great once he polishes the 2 flaws from his last game, it seriously sounds like I hurt your feelings in saying something most any other person would have said. Seriously grow up, and act like an adult.

  • RKJ92

He shot 4-20 tonight.. again remember I told you yesterday he needs to work on his fg% you gonna tell me he got fouled on every shot again like last night? because I watched the game again, so lets not go there. He did well in not committing 1 turnover, and dishing 7 assists, though I don’t know where his rebounding ability went for such a big point guard. But looks like I’m still right about what I said, and your still butt-hurt for me wanting to see a player develop his abilities for him to be the best player he can possibly be. sad.

  • WTF

ive been reading most comments lately from most articles..and dude. you are one of the frequents here that is trying SO hard to sound intelligent..Lol.
