Pau Gasol Loses Bet, Shaves Beard (VIDEO)

All for a healthy cause.

This summer, Pau and Marc Gasol hosted their first annual Healthy Competition with their organization. The brothers’ Gasol Foundation dedicates itself to helping children lead healthier lifestyles. Pau coached Team Los Angeles, and Marc coached Team Memphis from June 10 to August 2 in various physical activities, healthy eating plans, and sportsmanship exercises.

Week by week, the coaches tracked their team’s activity progress using Nike+ FuelBand technology. The Gasol brothers made a bet between themselves: whosever team finishes with the lower score has to shave his beard. Hence, the clean-shaven Pau makes his first appearance in nine years above.

Alright ya’ll… Who am I forgetting and who am I completely bunk about???

  • JibbsIsBallin

He looks like he’s 12 years old boy. A 7ft multi million dollar 12 year old that gets nasty on the court.

  • Ben Ireland

I think Deron is pretty high, and Hibbert, but there’s nobody I’d actually out and out disagree with!

  • Sergio

Is this your opinion or what you think SLAM’s ranking will be?

  • Jason Carter

    looks pedoish

  • LakeShow

I am digging on Hibbert dude. I think he is 18-10-3 on 55% waiting to happen and his defense in the middle is so superb.

Deron really should be back. He’s got one of the greatest PG’s in the game coaching him, and wanting him to dish the ball and get his team going and I think he is going to be back to the old D-Will. 17-10 on 45% from him is what i’m expecting.

Thanks for the feed back man!

  • LakeShow

Naw, they are my rankings for my reasons, but I expect them to be in some way similar to SLAM’s.

  • 360

Unless I totally missed it even though I read your list twice over, where does Steph Curry land? I mean Rubio but no Curry? Aren’t you an expert? Monta Ellis, no Curry? Ehhhh

  • 360

Kyle Lowry? very SOLID player – not top 50 material though sorry

  • http://twitter.com/niQknacks niQ

    Blast from the past.

  • Sergio

I understand. Unfortunately, I dont think SLAM will put Kobe this high, since he is recovering from the Achilles injury.

And also, no way in hell they put Melo that low.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

nbk’s tentative top 50: http://scribbless.com/lists/list/169446 (still in progress).

  • LakeShow

No, i’m not an expert. I have revised the list on the Nerlins Noel page though if you’d liek to see those additions.

I had Curry, Garnett, Dirk on the list and then had to move them from the original spot and then forgot to replace them.

When doing a numerical list things get a little tricky.

  • LakeShow

I think Kyle Lowry should be healthy and a 15-7-5-2 guy. A bit of a reach, but I love how he plays both sides of the ball and rebounds like a small forward.

  • Saleem Rainman

Parker was the best PG in the NBA last year, to expect him to fall out of a top 2 spot, or top 3 at worst, is a stretch, and idk, to think Kobe is gonna return to be a top 5 player (which he arguably wasnt even last year) is a bit of a stretch too imo.

  • LakeShow

I have always rated Parker a little lower than everyone else.

I still believe CP3 is a better player. And when healthy Rose too.

I don’t see his defensive prowess that others claim he has.

By popular opinion you’re right though.

    Kobe… he’s my dood, I’m optimistic.

I don’t think it was debatable if he was in the top 5 last year. He certainly was and I just expect him to be the same ole 25-5-5 guy.

  • LakeShow

    Haha, correct on both counts.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

how high you are on Kobe and low you are on Carmelo makes absolutely no sense bruh.

  • Stepfan Raiford

    Back in Memphis.

  • LakeShow

I see why you would say that.

With Carmelo and KB both playing minimal to no defense throughout the season.

    They really should be closer…

I do think KB is a top 5 guy if he is the same fella he was last season(but he probably won’t be), but Camelo is getting sh*t on by me. He should probably be in the top 12. And KB is probably going to play more around #10 also.

You’re right. BUT… I couldn’t help but have a little nostalgia while making the list. KB’s last year or two to be a top 10 player in the L imo so i’m hoping he can really put a great season together.

Hoping for 25ppg 6apg 5.5 rebounds per game on 46% fg’s with a steal and a half and playing 70+ games. Pretty optomistic I know, but he showed he can do that if healthy last season. I’m unsure how this injury will affect him. I have no experience with it.

  • Ben Ireland

I think Hibbert is more a 13-12 kinda player. Really, really good, just not the 13th/ 14th best player in the League.
Deron I went the other way from you on. Not that he’s not an incredible player, I just think that team is so stacked, and all of them can score, I think 17 is over-estimating what he can do. I’d say he could lead the L in assists, but his points will be around 14ish, just cos of the talent around him and he’s a willing distributor. I see him having a few monster scoring games too though so I could be wrong, Pierce and Joe are good passers too! I just don’t think he’ll score enough to bump up his average that much, but the man’s been in the 50s before so who knows!
Much as it pains me, I think Kobe’s gotta be lower, coming off a MASSIVE injury, and no way Wade’s better than Parker this year on a consistent basis.
Those are the nits I’m picking haha.

  • LakeShow

Yeah all good nits to pick haha.

  • RKJ92

If only he had spiked hair like back then too.. haha

  • danpowers

anthony could easily be in the top 5 if he really wanted to. but his commitment on defense (or lack thereof) and tendency to keep shooting long twos even when he is hurt or the defense doesnt really offer this option keep him out of the elite circle. on the other hand – being disappointed with what he does compared to what he easily could do shouldnt lower what he actually accomplishes on court. imo he is still in the top 10 as no 9 or 10. at least he is still better / more valuable than williams.

i really like how high you ranked LA tho

  • LakeShow

I already admitted to hating on him a little much with nbk…

He and Kobe are both probably going to end up right around the #7-11 spots next season.

    My bad haha.

  • RKJ92

is this based off their regular season? regular season + playoffs? or predictions off of the season to come? secondly why are Russell Westbrook, and Carmelo Anthony so high? I have James Harden as a better player then both of them. Thoughts please!

  • Dagger

What does it say about the league, and/or about Howard, that after his last season you rank him this high and it’s hard to argue otherwise?

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

Ehh we all know he’s top 5 when happy. Last season was an anomaly more than something to dwell on. Dwight wise.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

It’s for next season. Same as Slams list, I just try and get my irrelevant one out a little early to drum up some conversation when it’s slow.
In regards to Westbrook…offensively he may be slightly inferior to both, but he’s a much better defender. And he carries just as significant of an importance to his squad.
I picked Carmelo over Harden because of Dwight basically. Carmelo has a bigger role.

  • RKJ92

Ok that makes sense, I can definitely see how that would provide Westbrook’s case over Harden for next season, but for some reason I think Melo’s numbers will take a hit through all the free agency, and trade rumors. Usually that tends to mess with a player when their team is so misguided like the Knicks (honestly no offense Knick fans) and you’re very competitive up against the top heavy teams in the league it can make you doubt your commitment to the game you know what I mean?

  • j king

is kawhi leanord on this list or did i just miss him? i thought he stepped up in the finals

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

Ahh I spaced him out, it will be edited tomorrow

  • Max

I would put just Hibbert a lil bit lower, he’s probably just the 4th option offensively.
I would put him at 20 or something like that.

  • loll

    Looks like Sheldon Cooper

  • JL

Kobe’s a great player but next year he’s coming back from Achilles surgery. I doubt he’s top 5. Probably top 20.

  • JC

Hmm, how could Marc Gasol be ranked below Blake Griffin? What does Blake do better other than jumping high really?

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

  • Cole

Soo Al Horford is more valuable than Kobe now? Are you factoring in the injury or you just think Kobe’s too old?

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

Not about value. about what they do on the court. The injury and his age combined make me very weary. Very very. He could be done as a superstar altogether for all we really know. He could also be a top 5 player again. All I know is, That injury sucks. So I compromised.

  • SirGrey

I think Jrue is better than that.

  • TR

I think Griffin is going to jump into the top 10 discussion this year.I think(hope) hes gonna make a major leap.

  • robb

  • danpowers

(nevermind, its all good as long as it is coming from a raptors fan whos team is closer to have a shot at getting wiggins than making it to the playoffs. you still shouldnt drop stuff like that after all we did for you guys this offseason lol)

  • RKJ92

LOL Dan! you know I had to only to prove a point I was making though! I actually love the Knicks as New York is my home away from home, if it wasn’t the Raptors I was rooting for 100% it would be the Knicks :)

  • danpowers

that put the first smile of the day into my face. its really not all hate and trashtalk in slam. what a wonderful world lol

  • danpowers

hmmm… you really expect anything else but an out of shape bynum who returns somewhen midseason just to get hurt again after 20 games or so? thats pretty optimistic

  • RKJ92

Haha good! keep smiling! hopefully you scare someone on the subway LOL

  • danpowers

i live in the red light n party district of my city. you only scare people here by acting normal lol

  • fakeshowisabeyotch

    F*cking give it a rest!

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

ehh, Bynum could be a top 10 player if he plays more than 60 games. And he could be totally worthless. So like Kobe, I just found a medium I was comfortable with.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

i don’t see why you would think that? the year he got traded to New York, during all that ridiculous drama, he still put up his typical numbers. This in New York can’t be more dramatic then that. And I also think Melo is going to get just as much, if not more space than he did last season to do his thing.

  • danpowers

true that. i just think its much more likely that we will see a kobe on all star level than a bynum on above average level. he has the talent to be the best center in the league. he has just been out a bit too often in his career and now a whole year. his body doesnt seem to be made for the nba. which is a shame coz id love to see a guy like him go to work for 20 and 10.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

well yeah, that’s why Kobe is in my top 20, and Bynum is barely in the top 50.

  • danpowers

pretty good order anyway. was just suprised at the first time to see him in there at all.

  • http://triplejunearthed.com/dacre Dacre

Its a sad day when Steve Nash isnt in the best 50 NBA players…. and Omar Asterix is…
