This is a very strategic move by the Rockets. Morey wants the Rockets to be the top seed in the Playoffs and this Locker room will translate to more wins and ultimately to Championships. Houston is already a good offensive team, but needs to cut down on turnovers and become a better defensive team.
Just imagine half time with McHale and all the other coaches. They’ll be able to show video of the team’s mistakes from the first half and demonstrate on the mini-court how to make adjustments. This should minimize this year the 4th quarter meltdowns that Houston experienced last year. It should increase Houston’s home court advantage which translates to more wins which means championships, too.
I wonder whether the NBA will consider the mini-court an unfair advantage and eventually require Houston to do the same for the visitor locker room or be banned from using it during games.
