Dwight Howard Makes Houston Rockets Debut (VIDEO)

Houston got its first glimpse of Dwight Howard in a Rockets uniform, as the big fella posted 19 points and pulled down 9 boards in a 116-115 preseason defeat to the New Orleans Pelicans. Per CSN Houston: “I think he looked good,’ James Harden said. ‘He looked real athletic. Explosive.’ Howard finished with 19 points on 6-of-11 shooting, nine rebounds, three assists and a block in just over 27 minutes in the Rockets’ 116-115 loss to the New Orleans Pelicans. It was the team’s first preseason game of the 2013 season. Howard also made 7-of-11 free throws. His night was over late in the third quarter. ‘He looked good,’ head coach Kevin McHale said. ‘Active, had some blocked shots, rebounded, came over. I thought he did some nice stuff. Our starters, when they were in there, our plus/minus was very good.’ The Rockets built a lead behind Howard and the rest of the starters, but the reserves squandered it and the team lost its opener. The Rockets will now head to Asia for a game in the Philippines and a game in Taiwan. The last Rocket announced, Howard’s crisp white No. 12 jersey popped sitting on top of his black compression shirt as he ran onto the court after Harden. The cheers for Harden and Howard were the loudest of the introductions. Howard was excited to play and said he didn’t feel nervous before the game. ‘I’m just happy to get it going,’ Howard said. ‘It came pretty quick after free agency, training camp and all that. But I think we’re going to have a great season. I’m looking forward to finishing these preseason games off and getting ready for the season.’”

    did he lose weight?

  • Anthony Darnello Taylor Jr.

Well he does have angst of a teenage school girl given his immense desire to be loved and accepted he probably developed bulimia over the summer lol jp

  • TBRK

big man lookin good. Hope he shows out this year. W/o Chris Paul, LA was a terrible fit for him. He’s going to make James Harden that much more dangerous, and Jeremy Lin a bit more comfortable

  • AddingVelocityDontTellMe

I really want to see how Dwight and Osik operate. Lin was decent at passing. Who thinks beverly should start?

Lins assist numbers will go up for sure this season.

  • Max

I’m really looking forward to seeing pick and rolls with Lin/Harden and Howard this season.

  • Lloyd

Still doesn’t look as explosive. I know it’s just preseason, but seeing some intensity would’ve been nice.

  • LakeShow

@ 20 secs, how did Lin get that pass in?! Middle name “Dangerous”!

  • LakeShow

He looks good, but slender. Probably a good thing for this year, but he’s gunna wanna get back to his bullying ways sooner rather than later.

i really do not understand why you think these big guys should be putting on weight. it makes no sense. it’s not like he’s going to be outmuscled by anyone other than hibbert, who he will freaking destroy with his speed.

  • @iamMrjump

Really looking forward to what D.Coward can do in H-town, he has two of the greatest post players as his coach & teacher in Kevin Mchale & Hakeem Olajuwon, if he doesn’t get better on the offense end – he may have reached his peak and that Kareem Abdul Jabbar is right

  • Anthony Darnello Taylor Jr.

Seriously though if I offended anybody with this comment I apologize I understand that eating disorders are a serious issue that affect many Americans especially our youth.

  • Anthony Darnello Taylor Jr.

with an injury prone back and shoulder it is best that he stay as lean as he can IMO.

  • LakeShow

Because Howard put up 20-14-2.5 regularly while being a large, strong, physical presence. Not as an average sized center.

And he has long spoke about how he wants the ball more on the post. For a man with few offensive moves, bully ball is his best bet. Thus, more muscle and size would be a good thing.

yeah except that whole back surgery, lumbering and in pain problem…….it just doesn’t make any sense for him to put on weight. which is why he took some off.

  • LakeShow

He is still having issues with his back? I hadn’t heard that.

    Weight? No. Muscle, yes…

    “Weight? No. Muscle, yes…”

Use your brain for like 10 seconds and answer this question,
how do you put on muscle, and not gain any weight? it’s not like he’s eddy curry, he looks skinny if anything. muscle weighs more than fat regardless…….so, there is really no way to do what you are saying….scientifically speaking.
