Well, since nobody has commented here, I think I’m gonna use this comment section to post my thoughts/predictions about the upcoming season.

  • Caboose

Miami is still gonna reach the Finals. At the rate that LeBron has improved every year, it would take a Herculean effort from anyone in the East to stop Miami. Not to mention Wade is gonna be healthy and helpful (hopefully).

  • Caboose

I’ve got high hopes for the Clippers this year. Putting Doc with Paul is gonna make his efficiency soar. But Caboose, Paul is already ruthlessly efficient. I know. Just watch. I honestly think the Clippers make the Finals this year.

  • Caboose

Andre Drummond is gonna surprise a lot of people. His mobility in the post reminds me of Dwight in Orlando; dude can throw down an alley oop if the ball is placed roughly near the basket. Don’t be shocked if he contends for the rebounding title if he gets starters minutes. Yes, even with Monroe and Smith next to him.

  • Caboose

I can’t wait to see how absolutely terrible the 76ers and Suns will be. The 2 games where they play each other should be broadcast on Comedy Central. If the Bobcats ever have the ability to look down on you, you know you suck/are tanking hard.

  • Caboose

Speaking of the Bobcats, don’t look now, but they’re actually building to something. I know Al Jefferson is a black hole, but he might be what they need: someone who can actually play from the post and open things up for Kemba. Throw in ultimate glue guy MKG, and they might be a threat for the 8th seed in the East.

  • Caboose

That 7th/8th seed race for the East is gonna be pretty fun to watch actually. I’ve got the top East seeds pegged at:
    1 Miami
    2 Chicago
    3 Brooklyn
    4 Indiana
    5 New York
    6 Detroit

After that, man, there’s just a huge variety. Out of Washington, Cleveland, Charlotte, Toronto, and Orlando, 2 of those will make the Playoffs. I’m leaning towards Cleveland and Washington for 7 and 8.

  • Caboose

The West Playoffs are gonna be one of the most competitive in recent memory. I know for a fact my guess here is gonna be so far off from what’s actually gonna happen, but here’s how I see the West standings:
    1 Clippers
    2 Thunder
    3 Rockets
    4 Spurs
    5 Warriors
    6 Grizzlies
    7 Blazers
    8 Wolves
    9 Nuggets
    10 Lakers
    11 Pelicans
    12 Kings
    13 Mavericks
    14 Jazz
    15 Suns
The only thing I know for certain is #15. Honestly, teams 9-12 really do have a shot at the Playoffs.

  • Caboose

I can’t wait to see Deron be a playmaker again. He never looked comfortable having to be a scorer, in Brooklyn, Jersey, or Denver. For the first time in a while, he’s surrounded, SURROUNDED, by competent scorers. If he can put up a stat line like 15-12-4, look for the Nets to scare a LOT of teams. And Teletovic? Sleeper of the year.

  • Caboose

There are a LOT of players who are primed to break out this year. I’ll just list some:

    Andre Drummond
    Enes Kanter
    Brandon Knight
    Eric Bledsoe
    Chandler Parsons
    Chris Kaman
    Kawhi Leonard
    Marcus Thornton
    Chase Budinger

I’ll wager a lot that one of those guys wins MIP.

  • Caboose

Ah, the Lakers. Here’s the controversial one, how will they do? I think it depends not on Kobe’s performance, but Pau/Kaman/Hill. If those 3 perform as they did last year, the Lakers will be so deep in the lottery, they’ll actually snag a star. But, if those guys can bounce back and contribute career years, the Lakers will push for a 7th seed.

Note: ALL of this is meaningless if Kobe is out for more than 20 games. Lakers are going nowhere if Kobe isn’t on the court.

  • Caboose

I’m actually excited to see what the Kings can do this year. They have a legitimate pass first point guard for the first time since…….Jason Williams? With Isaiah Thomas able to play the Bobby Jackson role, the Kings might actually be able to RUN an offense. Which will be nothing but good for Cousins.

  • Caboose

COY? Tough. But, since I’m predicting a huge year for the Clips, I therefore have Doc Rivers as my COY. Of course Thibs and Pop are perennial contenders so they might crash the party.

  • Caboose

    All-NBA 1st Team:
    Chris Paul
    Stephen Curry
    Kevin Durant
    LeBron James
    Dwight Howard

Wait wait Caboose, Curry? Yes, random naysayer, Curry. He’s got the keys to the offense, confidence from the Playoffs and a secondary playmaker in Iggy. Look for his assists and turnovers to drop slightly but his PPG to increase. And that’s without even including the RIDICULOUS shooting percentages Curry has from behind the 3 point line.

  • Caboose

    All-NBA 2nd Team:
    Derrick Rose
    James Harden
    Carmelo Anthony
    Kevin Love
    Tim Duncan

Rose will be very good, but not the LeBron level all the Bulls fans think. If I had to put it in NUMBERS form, I’d go 23-7-5. That’s pretty awesome, but I think Curry and Paul will have better years. Harden is gonna get a nice efficiency bump playing next to Dwight, even if his scoring does dip slightly. Melo should be on the first team, but unfortunately, Durant and LeBron exist. If Love and Rubio are healthy, KLove is gonna put together not only a productive season, but a season that HELPS HIS TEAM WIN. For once. And Timmy, come on. It’s Timmy.

  • Caboose

    All-NBA 3rd Team:
This is where it gets tricky with injuries between Russ, Kobe, and Wade. If I can somehow grab my crystal ball and tell you what the injury situation will be like….I’ll go:
    Tony Parker
    Kobe Bryant
    Paul George
    Blake Griffin
    Andre Drummond

Tony always gets hated on by the League, but he plays well enough that he’s gotta be on ONE team. Kobe, in sharp contrast to Tony, has the L on his side. Even if he plays outside of the 3rd team, he’s not gonna be left off. Period. Paul George is gonna be super this year. We all know that, right? Blake fits right into my prediction of the awesome Clippers team; if Paul is doing better, Blake will too. And Drummond. Yup. I’m allowed one super bold prediction right? Is 13-12-2 with 2 blocks a game 3rd team? At any other era, nope, but in this era of weak centers, yes, it might be.

  • Caboose

    All-Defensive 1st
DISCLAIMER: This is my prediction for what the NBA will pick for their All-Defensive 1st. Not my own All-Defensive 1st.
    Chris Paul
    Andre Iguodala
    Paul George
    LeBron James
    Dwight Howard

Caboose’s All-Defensive First would be the same, but swap Conley for Paul. And MAYBE Hibbert for Howard. maybe.

  • Caboose

So who’s still reading at this point? I’m really not that interesting guys. Stop.

  • Caboose

MVP? Yeah I guess I dodged that one a little bit. Fine. It’s a 4 horse race between Bron, KD, Paul, and Dwight. Rose could come crash the party, but I think that’ll happen in 2 years. If I had to pick an order right now…

    NBA’s order:
    LeBron
    Durant
    Paul
    Rose
    Howard

    Caboose’s order:
    LeBron
    Paul
    Durant
    Howard
    Rose

  • Caboose

My League Pass darlings this year (if I get League Pass) will be:
Timberwolves (Rubio is the most entertaining player in the L)
Pistons (Jennings, Smith, Drummond, Monroe? Awesome entertainment)
Warriors (Watching a team challenge for the NBA record for 3′s every night)
Pelicans (Brow is gonna be a stud, and the Pelicans should be fun with Holiday)
Cavaliers (Kyrie is just awesome to watch. Period)

  • Caboose

It’s gonna hurt to be a Magic fan. There are literally no entertaining players on the team. Jameer is getting old, Afflalo is overrated, Harris is effective but boring, Davis is unlikable, Vucevic is the slightly-better-scoring-Asik of the East, Oladipo is a year away still, Harkless is above average at defense but that’s about it, and Nicholson is the most generic PF I can imagine.

  • Caboose

Sorry Knicks guys, but you’ve probably already figured out that I think Brooklyn is the better NY team this year. On paper, they are scary, and I don’t doubt that Pierce and KG will instill the same mentality that they did for the Celtics. Throw in Deron and Lopez, and man, they could surprise a lot of people.

  • Caboose

I’m not entirely sure why people expect Dirk to bounce back this year. He was not very good last year, and I expect him to carry the same kind of stats this year. 17-7-3 is my guess. Having Monta isn’t gonna help matters, I can guarantee that.

  • Caboose

I have pretty low expectations for Rondo. Is he a good point guard? Yes. But I wanna see what he can do without HOF teammates on the court next to him. I don’t think he’ll be able to keep up his stellar assist total without pulling a KLove: going after the stats instead of the smart basketball play.

  • Caboose

I think it’ll be a 4 horse race for the Assist crown this year: Paul, Rondo, Deron, and Rubio. Those guys would form an AWESOME Skills Contest this year too.

  • Caboose

Rebounding champ? Errghhh, that’s difficult, only cause it seems to fluctuate every year. Realistically, it’ll be one of 3 guys: Howard, Love, Vucevic. As mentioned before, if Drummond gets 36 minutes a game, he could crash that party.

  • Caboose

I REALLY REALLY want Oden to do well. He was such a fun, nice guy as a rookie. I miss that guy. I hope him being on the court without an injury could bring him back. Honestly, I think if he plays 70+ games at 10 minutes a game, that’s infinitely better than if he plays 40 games as a starter but then gets injured. It’s all about confidence for him now.

  • Caboose

The PG position is ABSURDLY talented right now. Just for reference, I’ll post all the PG starters:

Holiday, Calderon, Lin, Conley, Parker, Bledsoe, Vasquez, Nash, Curry, Paul, Rubio, Lillard, Burke, Lawson, Westbrook, Nelson, Walker, Wall, Teague, Chalmers, Irving, Jennings, Knight, Rose, Hill, Lowry, Carter-Williams, Rondo, Williams, Felton.

Honestly, that’s a solid collection of starters right there.

  • Caboose

SLAM, keep up the awesome work. Though, come on, you guys must think it kinda ridiculous to have Ty Lawson 10 spots above Mike Conley right?

  • Caboose

ROY? Who cares. Oladipo, or whatever.

  • Caboose

Anybody else miss some of the old regulars around here? Philosopher and JT are the guys who come to mind first. I know y’all are around, but I think SLAM is a better place when I’m NOT one of the top commenters here. I’m not nearly as fun or entertaining. The burden of a stats guy: we’re boring.

  • Caboose

I’m happy to post updates on the 20-man SLAM fantasy league, if you guys wanna know who the best commenters are when it comes to Fantasy. Let me know if anyone is interested. It’ll probably be nice seeing when nbk is in like last place. (Nothing but respect, Tim).

  • Caboose

6th man of the year is impossible to guess, as always. Who knows who on earth is gonna be starting? Well, if Vasquez is the starter, I’m going with Isaiah Thomas as 6th man. Does everybody know his RIDICULOUS FG% at the rim? 70%. 70. Dude is shorter than I am and he finishes that well. Nuts.

  • Caboose

I think Durant is gonna be the scoring champ this year. He’ll finally get back to being over 30ppg. It’s hard to be considered one of the best scorers of all time when you only get over 30ppg once. But this’ll be the year he gets over that.

  • Caboose

Bynum plays no more than 30 games this year. I’ll say that right now.

  • Caboose

Who knows what to expect from Eric Gordon? Will he finally be happy? I doubt it. Will he actually play this year? Yeah, probably. Will he hurt the Pelicans in the long run? I don’t know, depends if he wants to channel his inner Wade or his inner Monta. We’ll see. All I know is he can be an efficient and deadly scorer. But I doubt he’s got the mindset for it.

  • Caboose

Who else is psyched to AT ONE POINT, see a lineup of Felton, JR, Melo, Bargs, STAT? I wanna see it just to see who will inbound the ball.

  • Caboose

    I’ll repeat my challenge again:
If Kobe puts up 25-6-6 on better than 45% shooting in more than 60 games this year, I will not say ANYTHING ill about Kobe until he retires. And I mean literally NOTHING. That’s my deal to all the Lakers fans who think I’ve been unfair.

  • Caboose

To all the SLAM writers, I know y’all are always busy, but comment more! We miss you guys. Hearing from you guys is infinitely more fun than having to interact with that AddingVelocity fool.

  • Caboose

To SLAM again, maybe for this year, make a spot on the website where commenters can post predictions for a week, like a Polladaday. As in, it would be the “Survey of the Week,” where it asks a question like, “which team has the best record this week?” or, “guess the margin of victory between Miami and Phoenix.” Then, we all post JUST OUR PREDICTIONS (kinda like a Poll) in the area where the article normally is. We can discuss our predictions in the comments. I just think it’d be fun to see who can ACTUALLY predict the NBA best amongst us all.

Idk, just a thought…. and it’d be terrifying if Shock Exchange won all of them…..

  • BballConditioning

    Wtf just happened here…

  • tron

    This was an awesome vid.

In other news, Caboose is batsh!t crazy and needs a life asap.

  • Above_You

Soooooooooooooo…Someone needs a Slam intervention. Perhaps a few of his internet friends can get together in a cyber meeting of geeks and help him out.

  • hillbilly

Or, he could just be like NBK and pretend to have a life. I was on here a few months ago and that bloviating sack of sh!t was talking about how he had a wife and daughter. I nearly died laughing at that one. I mean, really. Can’t you just imagine how that would play out? NBK’s fictional ‘daughter’ would come into the room, holding a teddy bear and say, “Daddy? Will you please read me a story?” Of course, NBK would be so busy copying and pasting useless information that he wouldn’t even know she was there. So, the kid would go into the next room with tears in her little eyes and say, “Mommy? Why doesn’t daddy love me?”. And ‘mommy’ would say, “Honey, don’t bother daddy right now, okay? He’s busy schooling fools on the internet.”.
