Michael Carter-Williams Dominates the Miami Heat in NBA Debut (VIDEO)

The GOAT of debuts?

Flirting with a quadruple-double (22 points, 7 rebounds, 12 assists and a rookie record 9 steals), shocking everyone by beating the defending NBA champion Miami Heat, and clearly defying the tank rule in Philly. Not a bad debut for Michael Carter-Williams.

That’s why they say that only management can be tanking

Is this one of the all time great first NBA games for a player?

  • Stepfan Raiford

Is MCW a better version of Evan Turner? Impressive debut.

Breaking News: Rookie Michael Carter-Williams has been suspended indefinitely for “Conduct Detrimental to the Team” by 76er management.

superstar performance. Its just one game but know i’m going to watch him and Turner a little more.

    hahahaha

It is just one game but wow… amazing debut.

I won’t jump the gun on him but i like what i saw.

I will just point out 1 thing that will pretty much translate no matter what. His defensive instincts are really good. Before the draft, people said he was a good defender but he wasn’t tested due to playing in syracuse’s zone. He looks like he has massive defensive potential and showed it last night. Dude looked like a free safety out there lol. Batting balls, quick hands and turning em into fast breaks. Pretty amazing.

Hinkie probably wasn’t pleased though. Hinkie is all in for the tank. Watch him tar and feather the locker room in an attempt to kill the morale gained by last night’s win rofl.

The strengths you mentioned are all indicative of a solid “zone defender.” The real test is when he has DRose or Kyrie attacking him one on one. Not to knock him because 9 steals are amazing no matter what, but he wasn’t challenged individually going up against Mario Chalmers.

What would so awesome is for Philly to knock down something like 10 straight wins just to see the front office crap twinkies.

True. I tried to allude to that in terms of his defensive instincts. Not sure if he can stay in front of those other guys but half the battle is won as an nba pg if you are instinctive. Most pg’s can’t stay in front of their man initially but if you can steal the ball and get more possessions for your team, it is still good.

I think those pg’s that can kill 1 on 1 will probably own him because in college you don’t really have to fight through picks or even defend much at the top of the key. I do like his length, instincts,, quick hands though. Those will automatically translate in terms of causing turnovers. man 2 man… diff story. I agree.

  • Ugh

Cold shower: no scouting report + carte blanche = great individual performances but a smattering of wins.

    See: Sanity, Lin-

Hahaha I was thinking the same thing! Everytime Carter-Wlliams scored a bucket or dished an assist, I bet Sixers management were yelling “No, Michael! Noooo!!!! You’re costing us ping pong balls for Wiggins!!!”

  • TR

The Heat seemed to take the night off until the second half plus d-wade was out. good showing, but he also put rest of the league on notice. Prob ends up being his best game all year.

  • Dfrance

You’re right though, instincts can’t be taught and he’ll have help on those guys. It’s not like many people can guard the NBAs elite one on one anyway.

  • Dfrance

It was pretty good. Funny it was against LeBron who himself had one of the greatest NBA debuts.

  • Matt

    Yes.

    1. Wilt Chamberlain, 43 points 28 rebounds.
    2. Michael Carter Williams, 22 points, 12 assists, 9 steals, 7 rebounds
    3. Lebron James (18 years old) 25 points, 9 assists, 6 rebounds
    4. Lamar Odom, 30 points, 12 rebounds
    5. Allen Iverson, 30 points, 6 assists

There’s prob a lot I don’t even know about but those are 5 I was really impressed with

  • Max

Ofcourse Wilt would be at number 1 lol

  • spit hot fiyah

haha, that’s the thing, young guys are going to go out there and compete. fortunately for sixer’s management they don’t have a lot of young guys that are all that good. that’s why i think orlando might be better than some people think. they will play hard and and their young core is pretty talented.

evan turner n his kermit the frog voice is trash

  • Sancheezie

    wilt played against scrubs

  • retrobat

What’choo talkin’ about Willis?! Chalmers is a top 10 point guard! Just ask him!

  • Dfrance

Lol, I forgot that. Puts MCW in elite defender category then!
