Kobe Bryant Responds to Criticism from Jim Brown (VIDEO)

NFL icon Jim Brown had some not-so-kind things to say about Kobe Bryant this week on The Arsenio Hall Show. Bryant fired back on Thursday, via Twitter:

This guy sounds like a complete idiot.

Jim Brown in full effect. POW!

  • http://soundcloud.com/tray-8 T-Ray

Arsenio finally recovering after having Farrakhan on his show. In all seriousness Jim Brown is right and his words aren’t just directed towards Kobe. There are a lot of black athletes who are household names that tend to shy away from issues such as race, ethnicity, religion, sex, etc. So I don’t think he was just singling out Kobe he just used him as an example since Arsenio brought him up. I’m sure if Jim were to elaborate on this topic he would have plenty of other names to bring up.

  • TTN

I don’t think Jim was saying JUST because Kobe is a black man from Italy he wouldn’t count on him to represent African Americans. I think he was saying without touching on it all that he feels because Kobe told on shaq (with the whole paying women off thing and cheating) that he wouldn’t deal with him and doesnt like those type of people.

I concur with Jim Brown 100% I hate Kobes character but I like his basketball game and I try to judge celebrities based off only their profession not their personal business. But Kobe has made a lot of moves/comments that don’t sit well with certain folks.

  • Max

    That’s awesome lol

  • Dfrance

Sounds to me like Jim Brown has his own personal issues with Kobe. If Arsenio poses the question about Kobe, prefacing it with his return to the court, and the first thing you bring up is him “throwing Shaq under the bus” you obviously have a problem with Kobe that goes beyond what he does as an athlete.

For the record, Kobe did throw Shaq big azz up under the bus. lol.

  • Dfrance

I appreciate guys like Jim Brown, that take a stand on issues affecting the African American community and face them head on, but I don’t like the fact that they feel like EVERY prominent black athlete/entertainer should do the same. I especially don’t like when they call them out in public. Jim Brown can get in contact with Kobe if he wanted to. If he has a cause that he felt warranted Bryants name and support, he can contact him and ask. If Kobe shoots him down, which he’s well within his right to do, then by all means put him on blast. But this seems like he’s blindsiding him.

  • The real

I watched First Take and Numbers never Lie and they both covered this topic. Everybody on the shows is trying to speak like Jim is saying Kobe is not black enough because of where he came from and what not. Arsenio asked how he felt about Kobe. so he commented, I think like the dude TTN said Jim don’t like the kind of person kobe is so he wouldn’t mess with him on no levels and there for wouldn’t definitely ride with him on no issues. I think a lot of black athletes today would speak up on black people issues depending on the topic.

But Kobe did mention shaq to the police for no reason, then he do his parents wrong and he done been smacked by Reggie and Chris Childs but he said last year if he was Blake he would smack Ibaka in mouth, so he do and say a lot of questionable stuff.

  • LakeShow

    Yeah Kobe did.

And So did Shaq at KB to be fair.

It’s strange how much hate this player has created…

  • LakeShow

    That was harsh Jim.

  • TTN

This is funny considering where it started and how much better Kobe is than Marvin and Marvin still got a video.

  • ww5

Pau been under there too, after he helped bring those two championships….

  • Dfrance

Polarizing. He’s the NBA’s Kanye, you either love him or hate him. No in between.

  • LakeShow

You consider it throwing someone under the bus by saying “time to put on your big boy pants” because they are under performing?

That seems a little strange. Everyone throws everyone “under the bus” who asks someone to up their level of play if that is the case.

Mo Cheeks just “threw Brandon Jennings under the bus” for saying he wants him to play better defense right? Same deal…

  • pposse

    Shaq never snitched on him

  • Kap

He is definitely suggesting that Kobe is an Oreo and not black enough. I hate when people try to act like they know Kobe personally and question his character. I’m sure most athletes and celebrities are divas but its ludicrous to make it seem like one person takes the cake for all.

  • berkamore

When did Shaq throw Kobe under the bus?

  • Fat Lever

He said this on Arsenio? So that means a total of 7 people saw it. Kobe’s good.

  • LakeShow

    “Snitched” you’re probably right.
What can you snitch on Kobe about? He took the game as serious as anyone ever. Kobe called him out for not taking the game serious.

    Shaq:
“So I’m on edge because I don’t have I don’t have a new deal, and Kobe is on edge because he might be going to jail, so we’re taking it out on each other. Just before the start of the ’03-’04 season the coach staff called us in and said, “No more public sparring or you’ll get fined.” … Phil was tired of it. Karl Malone and Gary Payton were sick of it. …

Then Kobe throws Shaq under the bus about being out of shape and nursing injuries too long.

    Shaq goes on:
“Kobe stands up and goes face-to-face with me and says, “You always said you’re my big brother, you’d do anything for me, and then this Colorado thing happens and you never even called me.” I did call him. … So here we are now, and we find out he really was hurt that we didn’t stand behind him. That was something new. I didn’t think he gave a rat’s ass about us either way. “Well, I thought you’d publicly support me, at least,” Kobe said. “You’re supposed to be my friend.”

Notice he says: “We were taking it out on each other.”

Not a one sided street. But two.

They were both sh*tty to eachother.

Shaq was older. He should have been smarter and guided the team more, but as we all know he is just a really large child.

Blame Kobe all you want just know that you’re missing the other half of the equation

  • LakeShow

Shaq did threaten to kill him… I guess that’s not as bad though right? LMAO…

Shaq: I told Kobe, “If you ever say anything like what you said to Jim Gray ever again, I will kill you.”

    Kobe shrugged and said, “Whatever.”

  • Feez_22

umm… what does any of this have to do with kobe snitching on shaq in a police investigation that had nothing to do with shaq, again?

  • pposse

just read Feez’ comment, that’s really all this is about. I am almost 100% positive this is why Jim Brown doesn’t like Kobe and expressed as much. Jim Brown is like an ole school g but he’s a football player he got beat a round a lot and is very opinionated.

  • shockexchange

    Cup check!

  • pposse

I guess that’s not as bad though – according to Jim Brown yup that is correct

For the record I agree with Brown to an extent but i think he crosses the line, there is no need for what he said to have been said he is engaging in slander imo

  • berkamore

Nice try. Throwing Shaq under the bus was when Kobe said that Shaq paid women to go away, not the other stuff.

So the guy f…ks up, is cornered and the only thing he can think of to defend himself is to bring Shaq’s name (out of the blue because it ain’t like the police was asking about Shaq).

No, frankly, that told me a lot about Bryant. Under pressure, he will fold and give away people to save his own skin. Which is despicable.

That joker even mentioned Mandela in his tweet, which is laughable because the ANC fighters would NEVER give up anybody and they were facing something a tad more menacing than the local police.

  • ww5

I can tell u the president of the Kobe fan club, u got a answer for everything said so far about Kobe. Relax he is not yo daddy and even if he was he still down other players to the media which is something players are not supposed to do. Mo cheeks is a coach he is supposed to call out players and motivate them to get in gear by what ever means he sees fit.

Kobe won’t exactly getting it done either to be calling out only Pau, the lakers were losing, not just Pau. It’s not like Kobe wasn’t missing shots or missing defensive assignments either. Be for real man.

  • bike

Brown hails from a completely different era. He’s bound to have issues with many of today’s athletes, black or white. I thought he could have toned it down a notch but Brown’s what, like 77?

  • Cortez Mack

Most of these guys are talking about Bryant “snitching” on O’Neal to the police about paying his jumpoff chicks.

They are misguided though. O’Neal was not under investigation for anything to “snitch” on in the first place. At no point were the Colorado Police (or no one else for that matter) going to start an investigation into O’Neal’s sexual habits. Bryant simply spoke (some say out of turn) on a related issue about someone who he had a personal problem with anyway. Someone who had actually caused the rift in the first place.

Bryant was not “snitching”. He was pointing out a fact. He should have paid his jump-off chicks outright. Or not had them at all.

  • LakeShow

What’s worse, telling the Police that Shaq cheats on his wife all the time, or Shaq telling KB he will kill him.

Or what about when Shaq first came to the team in reference to Bryant saying: “I’m not gonna be babysitting.”

During the formative years (96-99) from Wiki: O’Neal was wary of Bryant, as a rookie, boasting that he would lead the Lakers in scoring and be the best player in the league. Lakers general manager Jerry West criticized O’Neal’s leadership for hazing Bryant that season.

  • LakeShow

“During the lockout, O’Neal, Bryant, Derek Fisher, and Corie Blount played a two-on-two basketball game. Bryant was always a physical player during practice. Other players, though, disliked Bryant’s approach to practice. Fisher said, “That was really the way we all should have been playing. With Kobe’s spirit.” During the game, O’Neal slapped Bryant. Fisher said neither O’Neal nor Bryant really started it, as they were both being physical.[17] During the season, the team would blame their problems on what they felt was Bryant’s selfish play. At one point, O’Neal pointed at Bryant and told reporters in the locker room, “There’s the problem.”[18] Bryant’s jerseys were outselling O’Neal’s in Southern California sporting goods stores, and rumors started that O’Neal was jealous, as he was with Penny Hardaway when they played together in Orlando. “That’s far from the truth,” said Fisher. “All Shaq wants to do is win.”[19] Asked if he helped Bryant through his growing pains, O’Neal said “I try not to help guys out too much. Experience is the best teacher … Kobe’s a great player … He’s a new, up-and-coming kid.”[19] O’Neal thought Rambis favored Bryant.[20] Rambis asked O’Neal, the veteran team leader, to heal the rift and reach out to Bryant. Rambis said O’Neal gave him a “blank, cold stare.”[21] The rift between O’Neal and Bryant continued into the playoffs. While the Lakers defeated the Houston Rockets in the first round of that year’s NBA Playoffs, they were ultimately swept 4–0 by theSan Antonio Spurs in the second round.[22]”

    What are ya’ll missing here??

You guys didn’t know Shaq was a huge d*ck and had every bit to do with their tumultuous relationship?

    Damn, read up on history…

  • LakeShow

Thank you I try to know everything I can about my favorite player.

  • LakeShow

    Kupchak

  • LakeShow

    No.

  • See me

    I don’t think so brugh,

Kobe has done a number of suspect acts and made comments over the course of 18 seasons and it’s all on display and well documented. so people can be safe to pass judgement when they add all that up.when a celebrity got a laundry list of messed up comments and acts you got to take that for what it is. Celebrities can make a mistake and call it that, but when u keep pulling the same shit, that’s you that’s yo character.

Jim brown has been around along time and seen some shit so I don’t think he would just pass judgement on Kobe based off just the shaq thing. Its what he been seeing and hearing.

  • AddingVelocityDontTellMe

you accuse me of conspiracy theory but failed to address my response. You need to watch that clip. Instead of learning about human being who has no interest in your life and yet you are actively studying and knowing everything about this individual who PLAYS a game. He doesn’t elevate your physical or intellectual abilities. Doesn’t feed you, nourish you, sustain you.

  • pposse

i was speaking in relation to what jim brown said. He clearly talks at the end of the convo with Aresenio about how a group of athletes (black athletes i’m presuming) all came together and had a discussion about how to handle everything after Muhammed Ali was incarcerated. He said “kobe wouldn’t get invited to that discussion” – this is clearly bc of Kobe admitting Shaq’s infidelities to the police, kobe speaking tot he police. He basically said he can’t be trusted. I think that was a little foul of Jim Brown to say cause there was no reason for him to say anything at all but Jim Brown is 70 old and probably self centered soo..

And yeah Shaq is definately a d*ck but so what?!

  • CKLOH

Why don’t you spend ten seconds typing that very question into your favourite search engine? There should be several thousand results.

  • ww5

    Never,
I think Lakeshow so in love wit kobe he don’t even know what people on here talking about when they use the term snitching. He think we talking bout Kobe calling shaq out about basketball.

No Lakeshow we talking non related basketball shit Kobe done snitched on.

Kobe put it publicly out there that Shaq was cheating on his old lady. After Kobe got caught.

Kobe also. While getting interviewed about the rape thing (which was bullshit he didn’t rape that girl anyway) said at the end of the interview to the Colorado police- Kobe-I should have did like shaq does and paid her off-

who the hell do that get caught and tell on othersthat ain’t got nothing to do wit yo situation.

  • Feez_22

    Umm… oh c-mon.

A lot of people tell others that they are going to “kill” them or “hurt” them or “eff them up” but aren’t serious about it. Did shaq act on killing or even beating up kobe bryant? Did kobe take it as a serious threat? NO. c-mon dude… the vitriol between them probably had BOTH of them say some things to each other that they regret. As men and teammates, you can solve that in house. Heck… i’ve told friends that i’d kick the crap out of them or would “kill” them as an exaggeration as well. Guess i’m an attempted murderer too, huh? jeez….

Jim brown doesn’t like kobe because kobe ratted out shaq in a police investigation being watched by the entire nation. When that came out in public record, shaq was exposed. You don’t do that. You just don’t. Kobe crumbled under the pressure in that interview room and spilled the beans on shaq for NO REASON. No matter how much shaq hated kobe, he’d never have done that. Shaq wasn’t even involved in the ordeal. Kobe spilled shaq’s secret business to the FEDS. Why? I don’t know. All i know is that isn’t noble, loyal and speaks to that man’s integrity. That is betrayal and jim being the old head he is wouldn’t ever want one of those people in his circle. Again, kobe brought shaq up on his own. No one pressured him to. Shaq wasn’t even a part of the case. Kobe just decided to spill beans on him. Why? That is why jim dislikes him. That is the reason. These old heads respect nobility and integrity. For kobe to do that reveals a lot about his character and jim wouldn’t associate with that. Period.

  • LakeShow

Yeah Kobe snitches on guys, but so what?!

  • pposse

so he is not allowed to be in conversations amongst his peers about real shiet if it were to ever go down.

  • LakeShow

    Okay.

  • thebossman15

lol man, its like us kobe fans aren’t allowed freedom of speech on this site..them lebron fans on the other hand got more freedom than GAT-dam melo on the knicks

  • LakeShow

Do you want more than 1?

Here’s one: “During the season, the team would blame their problems on what they felt was Bryant’s selfish play. At one point, O’Neal pointed at Bryant and told reporters in the locker room, “There’s the problem.”"

  • LakeShow
  • LakeShow

You can post a picture of you with LeBron’s balls placed in your mouth and everyone will give a standing ovation.

You say KB is an all time great and the foundations of society start to crumble…

    “GAT-Dam” is correct.

  • Cortez Mack

Jim Brown is a well known commodity and his social views are clear.

Brown primarily does not like Bryant because he does not believe he does anything with his celebrity to directly address the problems that affect minorities generally and blacks specifically.

We can assume this “he said she said” nonsense would be a distant second in priority to Brown. And as an athlete, I am sure Brown thought O’Neal’s dedication was less than stellar. And he would not look favorably on O’Neal physically assaulting and threatening more violence on a young black man who could use a mentor.

The only thing O’Neal could mentor him in is being lazy with your physical gifts and how to cheat on your wife.

…wait, O’Neal did have an effect on Bryant with regard to one of those things!

  • thebossman15

    where did you find this?

  • shockexchange

“Cup check” is actually something SE’s HS baseball coach used to scream out. Then it would jab you in the scrotum with a bat to make sure you were wearing a cup. Horry Jr needs to check his cup while he’s in Jim Brown’s presence.

  • ww5

U didn’t know that though? Or u wanted to act like u didn’t?

It’s kool if he yo favorite player, I get that, don’t act like anything somebody say about him that u don’t like ain’t right or is hate though

  • berkamore

Again, Kobe throwing Shaq under the bus isn’t about locker room rivalries. Any organization with strong willed people will have its share of arguments and it’s in some ways not a bad thing.

But your boy talking about Shaq paying off women is……low, uncalled for. I mean, the guy is under pressure for his OWN f…ups. (talk about shitty judgment: going to Colorado and assaulting that girl: how dumb can you be?) and he can’t thing of a better way to solve his problems than to drag Shaq into it.

    I mean: WTH?

  • berkamore

So somebody claims something with no evidence and I am supposed to do the research for them? Ok, got it.

  • ww5

THATS THE POINT HE HAS SNICTHED ON FOLKS

And people like myself and others and Jim Brown don’t like that type of shit. Thats I been trying to say, now if u like that in a person that’s kool for u

  • Utah Moron

Kobe keyed in on a key Cultural Issue in the black community.
The Requirement to think, act and talk the way you are expected to by
the community. Otherwise you are a Corn Ball Brother, an Inferior Shade, or an Uncle Tom.

Kobe hit it on the head. They have forgotten the Messages
of Mandela and Dr. King. Claiming them to their cause,
    while dishonoring their memory.

  • berkamore

    IRRELEVANT.

We are talking about KOBE SNITCHING TO THE POLICE.

  • Feez_22

You have no clue, do you?

You have no clue on why jim brown said that. You really don’t.

Go and look at the video again. What are the first words jim said in that clip? You want to know?

“He threw shaq under the bus”

What does that tell you? You know what that tells me? That tells me that jim is specifically referring to the sexual assault case where kobe literally threw shaq under the bus and rode it over him 2 times by telling the police that shaq paid for sex as well, even though shaq had NOTHING TO DO with the case. That is what jim is eluding to. The code of honor. Code of integrity. You just don’t do that in jim’s view. Heck… i’d never do that either. Shaq had nothing to do with this case yet kobe outed him for no reason at all. We don’t have to assume this as being secondary. It is clearly the primary reason as to why he doesn’t like kobe bryant.

There is pretty much no assumptions needed. Jim is clearly referring to the sexual assault case where kobe threw shaq under the bus for the nation to see. If you can’t realize that than i have nothing for you.

  • thebossman15

mix of kanye/weezy..weezy because of the enormous fan base and how they were both kobe and weezy were at their primes at the same time..its kinda crazy how many similarities they have actually..and of course your point about kanye can also be used towards lil wayne somewhat..plus they are both ‘eezy’s

  • berkamore

Call it what you want. The issue is why Shaq was even mentioned in the first place. The police weren’t asking about him.

  • KevJack

Smh.Here is what it comes down to, Jim Brown is Not someone who should be judging ANYONE!! Secondly, when we talk about snitching, No one likes a snitch however, on the flip side, IF Shaq wasn’t screwing around behind his wife’s back, and then “DISCLOSING” screwing around behind his wife’s back, Kobe wouldn’t have had anything to “snitch” about!!!! Matter of fact IF,you ARE married and FN other women behind your wife’s back you are lower than a snitch!!

So even though Shaq wasn’t a snitch, at that point in time in his life he was a lowlife, and the bottom line is, both Shaq and Kobe have said and done things to each other that are lowdown period!

  • Cortez Mack

“You have no clue, do you?”

    Apparently not.

“There is pretty much no assumptions needed.”

Yet, your comment is full of ASSUMPTIONS.

” Jim is clearly referring to the sexual assault case”

Really? Where does he “clearly” do that? I am going on the life work of Brown and you are going on your personal dislike of Bryant.

“If you can’t realize that than i have nothing for you.”

    I agree.

  • berkamore

Or if his part of a group, the “formal “meetings become kind of a joke and the real meetings take place on the phone or somewhere else. Been there before. The trick is to make sure the guy is entirely clueless. LOL.

  • berkamore

I hear that Kanye is getting (or is looking for) a shoe deal so I have to agree with you.

  • The Real

Seem like enough people saw it ,it’s been on a lot of websites and a lot of sports shows discussed it this morning.

  • Yknot

I agree 100%, and earlier in the interview Jim Brown denotes his affiliation with Malcolm X during the civil rights days not Dr. King so Kobes response has no real merit.

  • TTN

  • Feez_22

It has nothing to do with character? are you serious?

What is it with you kobe fans? what am i missing? this has EVERYTHING to do with character. everything. If you can’t decipher that from his words than there is nothing to talk about. I mean… seriously.

His first words were “he threw shaq under the bus”. That has nothing to do with character? really? jesus christ…

To someone with common sense, Jim Brown has issues with Kobe its really that simple

  • Cortez Mack

I agreed with you the first time. I am the one with the thinking problem.

I like how you think Kobe is not like the real “black community” that has a ” Requirement to think, act and talk the way you are expected to by the community.”

So Shaq, he was cool, he thought, acted, and talked the way the community thinks is right? Right?

He just was unfaithful to his wife with 100′s of women and a total d*ck and didn’t put 100% into his craft and lied constantly about all of it… But he’s cool..

Now that Kobe kid from Italy? Naw he ain’t cool.

To someone that knows Jim brown is not a stupid man u could also assume he dislikes Kobe because of his character.

He said- he’s not from here, and he threw shaq under the bus.

Everybody with good sense can connect those dots and tell you he is referring to how Kobe handle the shaq situation. Which was not by the code. You don’t snitch on people not even an enemy. And he is not talking about basketball, everybody knows Kobe stepped out of line when he mentioned shaqs business.

”I should’ve done like Shaq and just pay for sex”. All of this while Shaq was a married man.
They’re not freaking talking about throwing players Under the bus for freaking basketball matters!

The only time a man should be talking a marriage and infidelity is when it’s happening within his own marriage. Anything outside of that circumstance is womanly gossip. Bottom line, shut your mouth when it comes to the next man. • Harvey

    This guy gets it.
Arsenio was asking Jim about Kobe’s comeback. Jim then replied with a clearly personal nuance he felt he had to get off his chest about Kobe, which he has personally harboured for a long time. (MJ also was getting called out for this same thing years ago when he was at the top of his game and making a lot of money; “for not helping out the black community in Chicago.”)
Jim Brown was out of order saying all this. How does he know he wouldn’t have helped out with the Ali thing? He’s spouting nonsense with a hint of arrogance. And the thing about Kobe being raised in Italy? No he was born in Philly, and lived around 7 years in Italy, and then moved back to Philly.
    Now, with the Shaq thing?
READ PHIL JACKSON’S BOOK: THE LAST SEASON: A TEAM IN SEARCH OF ITS SOUL.
It was just as much as Shaq’s fault as Kobe’s the way things transpired!!!
Kobe takes the game seriously, unlike Shaq, and that’s why Kobe was pissed at him. If Shaq learned to defend the screen roll, they woulda beat the Pistons. Even the Laker staff said it.
Kobe is still greater than Shaq, so they made the right decision.
Kobe’s tweet is correct. Jim Brown sounds bitter…

THIS DUDE HAS BEEN ARRESTED, ACCUSED OF RAPE, MOLESTATION, ASSUALT, WOW

Ex-Athlete Jim Brown Arrested in Rape Case

    February 21, 1985|
Jim Brown, the professional football star-turned actor, was arrested
together with a woman companion Wednesday on suspicion of rape and
sexual battery on a 33-year-old woman at Brown’s Hollywood Hills home.

Police said Brown, 49, and Carol Moses, 22, were arrested just before noon at
Brown’s residence on fashionable Sunset Plaza Drive, where the attack
was said to have occurred Tuesday night.

The alleged victim, who was not identified, complained to Hollywood
Division detectives that Brown and Moses sexually assaulted her after
Brown struck her several times, according to police.

A brief police statement said that the woman’s complaint was under investigation
and that no formal charges have been filed by the district attorney.

Brown posted $17,500 bail and was released seven hours after the arrest.
Moses was freed from Sybil Brand Institute for Women on $1,000 bond.
Neither could be reached for comment.

This is not Brown’s first run-in with the law. In 1965, he was accused of beating and sexually molesting two teen-age girls. One later dropped the complaint and the
other went to court and lost, then filed a paternity suit which she also
    lost.

Brown was arrested in June, 1968, and accused of assault
with intent to murder when his 22-year-old girlfriend was found
semi-conscious under the balcony of his Hollywood apartment.

That charge was dropped when the woman said she had fallen while trying to
leave the apartment when the police appeared on the scene. Brown was
charged with resisting a deputy and was fined $300.

In 1978, he was jailed for a day and fined $500 for beating up a pro at a Los
Angeles golf course in an argument over the placement of a golf ball.

In court, the prosecutor denounced the sentence as “completely
inappropriate” because Brown had several previous assault arrests, a
record of “past assaultive conduct” and “many brushes with the law.”

Last year, the former Cleveland Browns star talked of returning to
professional football to add more distance to his 12,312-yard career
rushing record and to keep former Pittsburgh Steeler Franco Harris from
breaking the record. The matter became moot when the Chicago Bears’
Walter Payton outran both Brown and Harris.

  • Harvey

These stereotypes are exactly why we have a long way to go in this world. Why is it always that black people (athletes in particular) have to act a “certain way”? They’ve got to be “real” and “hood” all the time…Pathetic!!!
Kobe is a very intelligent dude, smart, well-spoken. If these characteristics are not “real” then who’s at fault here??? Stereotypes are sick!
    Apologies for the rant.

  • TTN

Haha that’s cool that he loves him but..

when anybody speaks on kobe in a manner that he might deem to be unfavorable, he cant just chalk it up to them hating or it’s baseless, I’m just saying be real about Kobe.

I maybe wrong but I have never seen you say Kobe or Horry Jr can’t play in a post, you just acknowledge certain things. Like yesterday, you pointed out kobe had additional talent besides his own to help win 5 titles. That’s the absolute truth every team or great player like Kobe has to have other talented players to win and when they don’t they fail Jordan, Lebron, Kobe all of them went through it to win.

You are out of your element. Glad you at least acknowledge that. The social issues faced today are only than those faced in the past on the surface. Kobe wasn’t born 2013. And even if he was, with the racial and social climate of this country right now, who are you to question which black should or shouldn’t care? Or any other race of people for that matter. I really can’t fathom how anyone could be sooooo glib as you are on social issues. Did racism, sexism, homophobia and classism suddenly disappear? Kobe spent the majority of his life here. His family is from here. If your argument is that athlete’s are merely entertainers who shouldn’t be looked at for guidance on social issues, fine. But don’t start trying to break down which blacks should care about which issues. That’s were you went wrong. Slow your roll little man.

You cannot present a valid argument as to why it would be okay for a grown man to gossip about another man’s sex life, after he put himself in a position to be accused of rape. Just because you are getting rebuffed with points that make sense doesn’t mean anyone is a troll or harassing you. You are letting your fandom excuse the inexcusable, as well as making you foray into areas in which you have no clue of what you speak. All of this is because of an obsession with a basketball player. I may not visit this site a lot, but you seldom have insightful comments on social issues. Now that Kobe is being discussed, you’ve found yourself delegating which black people should and should not have connections to the community, as well as making light of discussing the personal business of others. Maybe we can get the big aristotle aka shaq to pay off a hoe for you too? Get u back on the right team.

The point is, how is that your business? Whether someone is faithful in his/her marriage has nothing to do with anyone outside of the family they created. I’ve never cheated on my wife and never plan to. Now what? Is your argument that only cheaters believe other people shouldn’t run their mouths about other people’s marriages? You think pointing out and discussing the marital issues of others makes you morally superior to the cheater? Anyone who thinks that way needs to grow as a human being.

you missed the entire point of my statement because you didn’t see it in it’s totality. first it is NO ONE”S business unless they make it someones business meaning if a person makes the decision to cheat and then tells someone WHAT they are doing they are putting themselves in a very precarious situation meaning, keep your mouth shut and you never have to worry about your business being talked about!! That’s all I’m saying!

” He knew him saying that on camera was gone get around and it did.”

On camera? Really? Let’s see the footage. Something that that should be readily available.

I see why you guys are all up in arms. This story has oddly morphed into Bryant giving a Gettysburg like address to the world from Mt.Olympus!

He made a comment during an informal interview. Why would he think the Colorado Police Department would run to “the press” about a O’Neal affair?

You would think he would have more serious things on his mind than “throwing someone under the bus”. The comment was made in the heat of the moment ,so to speak, because he could not believe a douche-bag like O’Neal could play free willy with his side dames with no issues.

Should he have said anything? I do not know. Should he have cheated on his wife? I do not care. The reality is that I could not care less about someone deserving a-hole being “thrown under the bus” in the first place even if that was the case, so I am biased.

  • berkamore

Hate is a strong word for somebody most of us never met. We understand you worship him but for most of us, Bryant is just a guy who plays ball. Your idol is not exactly out there saving lives. He’s just a guy who entertains us a couple of hours a day. (if that)

  • charliewinning

I undertand where Jim is coming from with not feeling Kobe, but his reasoning is misguided.

    1) There is no standardized persona that we black men must follow in order to be considered black. My DNA solidified what no idiotic, stereotypical “standards” will ever be able to take away.

    2) I think Jim was getting at Kobe’s shady behavior, especially toward the situation with Shaq. Kobe had no business discussing anything regarding any other man’s marriage. Considering that he was being questioned for sexually assaulting a woman who wasn’t even his wife, it makes you wonder how low his behavior in life truly can get. That was the point I was really done even trying to like Kobe. Face the problems you created by dealing with you and only you. Whether he was guilty of assault or not, Kobe put himself in that situation. Shaq shouldn’t have even been on his mind. Truly innocent people don’t start looking to deflect attention toward random people’s bad behavior. (FYI for all of you dissecting Shaq’s fidelity, the bottom line is that it had nothing to do with Kobe’s case. Using the mutually exclusive issue of how Shaq treated his wife to what Kobe did while talking about what he was accused of does nothing to help Kobe.)

    3) A lot of stupid comments have been made, mostly by those who I expect nothing better of. That’s all I really have to say about that.

GET THE MOTE OUT OF YOUR EYES< THEN YOU CAN HELP OTHERS<UNCLE TOM JIM

THIS DUDE HAS BEEN ARRESTED, ACCUSED OF R@PE, MOLEST@TION, ASSU@LT, WOW

Ex-Athlete Jim Brown Arrested in R@pe Case

    February 21, 1985|
Jim Brown, the professional football star-turned actor, was arrested
together with a woman companion Wednesday on suspicion of r@pe and
sexu@l battery on a 33-year-old woman at Brown's Hollywood Hills home.

Police said Brown, 49, and Carol Moses, 22, were arrested just before noon at
Brown's residence on fashionable Sunset Plaza Drive, where the attack
was said to have occurred Tuesday night.

The alleged victim, who was not identified, complained to Hollywood
Division detectives that Brown and Moses sexu@lly assaulted her after
Brown struck her several times, according to police.

A brief police statement said that the woman's complaint was under investigation
and that no formal charges have been filed by the district attorney.

Brown posted $17,500 bail and was released seven hours after the arrest.
Moses was freed from Sybil Brand Institute for Women on $1,000 bond.
Neither could be reached for comment.

This is not Brown's first run-in with the law. In 1965, he was
accused of beating and sexu@lly molesting two teen-age girls. One later
dropped the complaint and the other went to court and lost, then filed a paternity suit which she also lost.

In court, the prosecutor denounced the sentence as "completely
inappropriate" because Brown had several previous assault arrests, a
record of "past ass@ultive conduct" and "many brushes with the law."

Last year, the former Cleveland Browns star talked of returning to
professional football to add more distance to his 12,312-yard career
rushing record and to keep former Pittsburgh Steeler Franco Harris from
breaking the record. The matter became moot when the Chicago Bears'
Walter Payton outran both Brown and Harris.

assalamualaykum. here is some advice brother. use your energy for dawah in a different forum. people come here to read about basketball. so while u have a good intention, a lot of your efforts are in vain since a lot of people on here find it irritating that someone post videos and texts about Islam on a basketball site. so find different websites were people are actually open to discuss these types of things.

as for people calling Shaykh Hamze Yusuf an innovator, they should have fear of Allah in regards to this. He studies AhluSunnah was jamma3 Aqida and Fiqh. He is a Sunni in this regard and was taught was this Ummah has been teaching all over the Muslim world for over 1000 years. So maybe the people warning against him have a problem with Sunni Islam

What Kobe did was wrong, but if you read the direct quote of what he actually said to the cops back then, you’ll see he was more naive than anything else. He actually thought he could pay his way out of it, just like Shaq did. He simply didn’t realise the seriousness of the situation, which is not surprising giving that he lived a “protected” life as a superstar from a very young age. His ego was so big, he thought he was untouchable. Don’t make what he did any more right, I’m just saying.

Kobe wasn’t born outside of the U.S He has spent more time here than in Europe. Brown was misguided only on that point. Kobe is as American as apple pie.

  • ted

How is being accused of r@pe a related issue to Shaq being unfaithful? Don’t minimize the seriousness of what Kobe was accused of. No girl ever screamed Shaq held her neck over a chair an anally had sex with her against her will. Kobe was being malicious because he clearly isn’t a good person.

  • ted

If you are the type of man who honestly believes REGARDLESS of what you heard, it’s your business to repeat, you have character issues. It baffles me that you truly don’t see how how immature that mentality is. It’s actually downright ignorant. I saw your entire statement. The bottom line is, no one outside of teenage girls get a pass for gossip. What Shaq told, and to whom he told it is a MUTUALLY EXCLUSIVE ISSUE. Don’t try to make this about marital infidelity. That’s a separate conversation and a separate issue. We are talking about spreading malicious gossip. You clearly haven’t grasped the concept of personal responsibility if you think there is a loophole to a man being accountable FULLY for the words of his tongue. Saying “keep your business to yourself and others won’t talk” is a cop out. A way to make a man only partially responsible for spreading gossip. Besides, I highly doubt Shaq and Kobe were swapping cheat stories, which would actually make it worse if Kobe directly got information and volunteered to share it. Bottom line, it’s morally indefensible.

Whether you overheard it or you were confided in, the fact that you honestly believe there is justification for repeating anything you were told says a lot about you.

To make matters worse, you brought that mentality into a case where one man VOLUNTEERED the info during an interview where he was being questioned about committing a crime second only to murder and child r@pe. Pretending like I could even begin to understand how any fully grown adult could think like you, there certainly is no morally acceptable way you could apply that type of gossipy thinking to this particular case. So many of you Kobe apologists are forgetting the most important part of this whole thing. What innocent person starts talking about the guilt of others before they mention how much they will have embarrassed their families? Assuming he wasn’t exactly guilty of the crime legally, he wasn’t even remorseful for the shame he brought upon his family. He said “I should have paid her off like Shaq does his girls”. He didn’t say, “I shouldn’t have cheated on my wife”. He then proceeded to name numerous girls he played his little rough anal game with. The guy is a scumbag, even if he isn’t legally a r@pist. Turning the conversation about Shaq’s fidelity says a lot about you, Lakeshow and the other who defended this clown.

nowadays u have brothers studying in Medina for a few years and going around “warning” people about Shaykh Hamza. anyone who promotes grave worship and/OR asking the dead to help them rather than Allah directly (extreme sufism) i’d steer clear of…

  • guest

grave worship is shirk by definition, so yes. asking the creation to intercede can be found in the sahih hadith and we know that the sahaba practiced it after the death of the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) through the Prophet, also found with sahih transmissions.

claiming that this was shirk and that sunnis and shia were all mushriks was what enabled the wahhabis to take control of the peninsula by killing muslims and stopping the Hajj from coming to the Haram based on their belief that these Muslims were mushriks. Again, this is all historically verifiable.

tawassul is a FIQH issue, it is not connected to tasawwuf (or extreme sufism, whatever you mean by that). U can find it in fiqh books under the chapter of Hajj.

i don’t defend everything that claims to be sufism. it is one of the areas were a lot of innovation has crept in. But tasawwuf/Ihsan is one of the sciences of Islam and can not be denied,
