Kevin Durant Drops 54 Points In Win Vs Warriors (VIDEO)

Poetry on the basketball court.

Kevin Durant was unstoppable against the Warriors on Friday during a 127-121 win, scoring a career-high 54 points with 4 boards and 6 assists. KD is averaging 36.8 points per game in 2014, and he won’t be cooling off any time soon.

What can you even do? He was just throwing shots in. Every defensive attempt just didnt work. They doubled him, shaded him towards help, tried to deny him from recieving passes, and at one point ran a box and One on him. He was playing in his head. scary.

It’s hard to believe that Durant has only had three games of 50+ points. If he was a little more selfish and the NBA wasn’t so obsessed with efficiency, how many of those games could he have had at this point?

Allen Iverson took 28 shots A GAME in 2001-2002. That’s how many shots Durant had last night. Durant isn’t even taking 20 shots a game this year. Imagine if he took just a few more every night . . . .

To think this guy wanted to shoot less.

  • T-man

I think he will win MVP this year.

That was my first thought. When I saw that he got 54 I just thought “of course he did”. No idea that was a career high.

Durant holds himself back. This is one of the few games where durant has shown what he can really do. He just needs a more aggressive mindset to reach his potential.

That’s actually something I’m not fond of in this stat-crazy era of the L. No new player’s even trying to buck the trend and play ala Iverson, Kobe, T-Mac.

I can understand that advocating efficiency has led to better shot selection and ball-movement but at times, I just think that when the game’s there for the taking for player X to have a historic night, most times, they just shy away from the opportunity…….Selfishness at times makes the game beautiful and adds to its lustre. I mean, personally, I find the Thunder an infinitely more interesting team when Westbrook is on fire because he has shown that he can be selfish and selfless at different points of his career. Durant, for all his talent and skill, never strikes me as a guy who would just say “Screw this. I’m gonna win this game by outscoring them guys”. That kind of limits my imagination at how many individual season records he can eclipse because he’s simply too nice. ( And no, I DO NOT mean that as a weakness )

You do win a LOT more playing like Durant but I believe that playing like Westbrook would be the most satisfying knowing that you’ve tried to exceed your limits while also helping the team win. That kind of selfishness is required to counteract the LeBrons, Durants of the NBA to increase interest IMO.

NBA, atleast to me, is a canvas for an artist to perform and mesmerize the fans. And I think this fondness for efficiency is starting to take a bit of the surprise and anticipation outta the game.

Man Tony Delk once scored 53 in a game once!

Riiiight. I feel this way about Lebron whenever I watch him. I can’t help but think he should be able to put up 60 points if he’d just decide to take over with the ferociousness we all know he’s capable of.

I mean I’m just a schmuck on a comment board but in my not expert opinion he is much too timid and careful.

  • JJ Jones

Too conscious of fg% its sad and to be honest it ruins the game.

remember when AI went 20/40, for 40 points? smh. KD better get mvp this year

  • Yknot

For Westbrook yes, but teams have figured out Jackson, Ibaka, Lamb, and everyone else, so a contested shot from you is better than one from them.

I agree with what your saying, but KD does sometimes think screw this I’m outscoring the guys. He’s averaging like what 36 a game since Westbrook went down.

I see that as Durant not having any choice in the matter rather than him deciding to go for it.

BTW, if anyone can help me, when was the last time Durant or LeBron or CP3 ( the top 3 players in the L right now ) had twice the shot attempts as the 2nd best player on the team for a stretch of 5 games which was very common during the 90s and 00s.

I remember the days when Kobe-Shaq Lakers would have Kobe shooting insane number of shots in game and Shaq would have an insane number of FTs the next.
