Jeremy Evans did the same dunk last year… Missed a few, but still, that wasn’t a totally new dunk….. Just saying.

Two things: (i) If last year’s ASG catapulted Kyrie to head of the class among young PG’s, has Wall now surpassed Kyrie? (ii) Does everyone see why the Shock Exchange counseled the Kang not to enter the Slam Dunk contest? No way he could beat what Paul George or Wall did tonight.

  • Saleem Rainman

nice slam but this format has gotta go…

  • Tragic_Johnson

Aside from the star factor involved I think it’s got a lot to do with JW pulling this off on the first attempt as opposed to evans on the fourth.

I mean Paul george’s reverse 360 through the legs was just sick and I’m pretty darn sure that’s the first time it’s been done in this comp, so either I’m trippin and it wasn’t that nice or that masterpiece is being seriously underrated as of now.

  • LP @ThisisEther

Yea I feel the same way, PGs dunk was amazing, and nobody cares about it…. Walls dunk was better, he added an extra pump and completed on the first try, but I thought PGs dunk was completely overlooked. It was a… yea, masterpiece.

  • LP @ThisisEther

LEBRON really might have shined in the freestyle portion though… That has his name written all over it..

  • swill

a format that encourages people to get out their phones and vote for the winner = an arena full of people on cell phones, paying half a mind to the contest. i don’t think the east vs. the west thing was the best, but there was a lot to like about last night’s contest. he participants were stars, and they brought it–props were kept to a minimum, the dunks were creative, and they didn’t take 14 attempts to pull them off. but if the crowd’s not into it, the thing will always feel flat.

  • DK

I thought the whole thing was better than expected. One more round would have set it off. Wall’s dunk was amazing.

  • Nathan Shane Long

Last night format was the worst in dunk contest history and i thought nothing could be worse than the year they had that dunk wheel gimmick anyway John Wall dunk was just a youtube ripoff

  • KipSmithers

    John “The King Slayer” Wall?

  • Daniel Noel

agreed! the east one, they should have let the last 3 battle it out for the crown. 2 dunks, 2 rounds! i wanted to see more of paul george had.

  • Daniel Noel

F lebron, saying he’d win the dunk contest. put up or shut up!

  • Daniel Noel

remember, Wall is a pg! for him to complete that dunk, jump over someone and reverse it is quite tough. I liked the dunk especially b/c he got it on the 1st attempt. the comparison to jeremy evans; he’s a big man so he has an advantage; even if he’s jumping over someone 7-4 (sitting down).

  • Daniel Noel

lillard’s between the legs was better, imo. still nice by wall. terrible format last night

  • havoc33

Unbelievable. The NBA finally get some stars back in it, and what do they do? They change the format and ends up with worst dunk contest in quite some time. Such a shame, casue seeing Ross, PG and Wall go head to head would have been awesome.

Go back to the old format of the 80s. Keep it simple; no props, 6 or 8 dunkers and two rounds. With that format this year it could have been a classic.

Nice slam, but 5’10′ Jacob Tucker did this back in NCAA slam dunk competition in 2011!

his Paul George dunk at 2:00 mark

  • havoc33

So what? The chance is small that there ever again will come a dunk in the NBA contest that haven’t been done before. It’s still way more exciting to see a star player do it than some scrub from college. Star power enhances the performance, we all know that.

  • Caboose

    John “Baratheon” Wall

  • Caboose

How many years in a row will the judges say “THE DUNK CONTEST IS BACK!!!!”?

  • http://signup.divinerenergy.com/ Anthony Dixon

a dunk is a dunk… You’re just brainwashed by the media for wanting to see stars do it. lol

  • http://signup.divinerenergy.com/ Anthony Dixon

yea man… mostly everything has been done… On;y thing good about the weekend is the ASG

  • Nathan Shane Long

It took four long years but finally John Wall has “won” something in his career

  • havoc33

    erm, obviously it’s not

  • KipSmithers

    Eleventy Billion…

  • KipSmithers

Had to google it, but it does make sense.

Also, I did hear one using the wizard connection calling him “Professor Dribble-dore”.

  • Ugh

So he can freestyle the same tomahawk dunk seven times?

  • Ugh

I actually really liked the freestyle format – it was like watching
guys at the playground messing around with dunks. It felt really
natural, unforced and loose, unlike the highly contrived and flashy
stuff the last few years have been.

As for the head-to-heads… the only guy who improvised dunks for the head to head in years was Nate Robinson. Everyone just brings pre-rehearsed dunks, they don’t get inspired by who they’re up against anyway.

  • LP @ThisisEther

You watching this Allstar game? Not the same tomahawk dunks

  • Respect

wall came up on the other side of the basket though…

  • LP @ThisisEther

they read whats on the tele-prompter….sad

Idk know if that is sarcasm but for that to be so true it is sad and disgusting. He should have been player of the year or wade trohy winner in college. Should have been selected as a starter in the east without question!!! Check this guy career stats against all active PG’s!!! And when you look at the guys to make the olympic team and he wasn’t one was ridiculous!
