The champs at the white house

I love it when athletes visit the White House for a photo-op with the President. Shaq told the president he’s doing a good job, a far cry from Rasheed’s legnedary performance where he claimed that he didn’t want to go because he didn’t vote for the guy. Bush weighed in on some NBA topics.

“I know a lot of NBA fans, whether they like the Heat or not, are pulling for Dwyane to get back into action,” Bush said. “We wish you a speedy recovery, Dwyane.”

 

“They had the stars, everybody knew who they — who the stars are, but it was the capacity to play together, to put the team ahead of themselves, that enabled them to be here at the White House.”

All true. And don’t forget about the free throws. And be careful Mr. President. That is Pat Riley standing behind you. Watch that one. He’s slippery. Here are some accompanying photos.

    Since Shaq spent most of the key moments of the Finals on the bench, with Zo getting most of the 4th quarter minutes, it should have been Zo up there. What does $20,000,000 per year get you out of Shaq? 14 and 6 or whatever he’s averaging.

    I don’t understand how anyone would think it was an honour to go to the white house to meet George Bush.
    No, I am not an American, but there is no way in the world I would shake that guys hand. No way. I’d never show that man respect, he has earnt the right to be strongly disrespected. I’m sure at least some of the players find it embarrassing, or frustrating, or wrong. Rasheed said it, why don’t more players? Hmmmm, actually, I’m probably reading into to much, many players probably don’t give a sh*t, they just go shake his hand and laugh about it… fair enough.

    Devon George didn’t think it was an honor to meet Bush. He showed up wearing a damn sweater to the whitehouse. Damn Devon don’t you own a suite my brotha? “My bad man, I thought coach said we was go’n to a steakhouse”. And what was Kobe thinking…somebody tell him that the Richard Roundtree look played out in the seventies. Oh’ that’s right, I only wear suits to Colorado. :-)

    Joey Crawford, your comment made me laugh but does anyone really think George Bush is the leader of the free world? I thought not even Americans took him seriously any more. The rest of the world certainly thinks he’s a joke. You can T me up if you like. I agree with TripleDouble. I’d find it awfully hard to look dubya in eye, shake his hand and smile.

    Well, Shaq and Riley’s comments only go to show that you should never, ever trust people in sports when it comes to politics. They all seem to be almost by default in support of a**hole right-wing policies. But that’s rich people for you. (Though I have a sneaking suspicion some of the guys in the L would rather shank Bush than shake his hand…)

    I like Wade so much. I am from Nigeria. I do play basketball too. I do wear Wade converse to play and i am playing like him magicly…Love to meet him… Please, i would like to meet him. I’m so anxious to meet him. I want to be playing like him. I play is wing here in my court. I love him so much. I would be very happy if i can get some of is vedio tapes to watch. I guess from there, i would be glad that am meeting him. Because of him, i have been a fan of Miami Heart. Ben Kunle Balogun.
