Warriors Come Out and PLAAAYYY!!

Dirk, whenever you’re ready.

By Khalid Salaam

Remind me the next time someone tries to explain how great Dirk Nowitzki is that its at least probable that he has to sit down to take a wiz. I mean are you kidding me? Did I hear that right? Those 2 late threes Dirk hit in the 4th were his first two 3 point makes of the series? How is that even possible?

I got people from the Bay and an old ex who lives out there so my allegiance is with the Warriors. I saw that they had a fire out there on the freeway last night but if they win this series they’ll start another fire just for celebration purposes. Maybe I should stop saying if and say when. I’ve watched a lot of basketball over the years (damn I sound old) and I’ve seen teams come back. Phoenix came back from a 3-1 deficit last year on the Lakers so it can happen yes. But you don’t even see the tenacity on the Mavs team to think a comeback is possible. They can win game 5 of course but what happens when they get back to the Yay? When you got dudes like Matt Barnes taking a crap on your program things couldn’t be worse.

The recently named 6th man of the year Monta Ellis went scoreless and Al Harrington did nothing last night and they still won. So they can play better and take it up to whatever notch Dallas will take it to on Tuesday. I’ve always liked Baron Davis but your man stays hurt on the sidelines. It’s been easy to overlook him the last few seasons because he hadn’t played. But now after some weight loss that take the wear off his body he’s playing out of his mind. He is a problem right now and Dallas can’t seem to do anything about it. I like Devin Harris and think he’s an underrated player but right now he don’t want with BD, he’s getting killed out there. Maybe they should put Josh Howard on him, even if he’s at a mismatch quickness wise you get some resistance back with the height and weight that J5 brings to the table.

But what do I know, I’m not gonna second guess Avery Johnson. Wait, yes I am! Last night was his third starting line-up in the series. Who is he, Larry Brown? I think Avery is a top-tier coach in this league but he’s getting shi–ed pon (not a typo) by Nellie who has put down the whiskey bottle long enough to remember that he once was considered a forward-thinking coach in this League.

But again most of the blame falls on Dirk. You wanna be the man, right? Then don’t talk about it, be about it. I though GS would give Dallas a fair one, six games max. Instead they’re about to take the series. And they deserve it. I don’t care if I was wrong with my prediction, at this point, with the way they’re playing (except for Jason Terry I guess who is still doin’ him) I want the Mavs to lose. Remember when people were comparing them to the ’96 Bulls? LMAO!!!!! The only thing that would make it better is if the Mavs lose and then Dirk wins the MVP. Then they would announce it and do it how they do it when someone wins a Grammy and they aren’t in the building. So you would see Dasagna Diop accepting the award on his behalf with Dirk via satellite from some grainy broadcast from Germany saying how much he’s honored to win. How classic would that be? How many youtube hits would that get? Of course we all know that David Stern would switch the votes at the last minute to ensure that won’t happen but its fun to speculate.

If Dirk does have to take the hardware via satellite, he should have to do it from Mark Cuban’s house, just for one more reaction shot of him. In fact, invite Wade too. And Dirk probably only sits to pee in the middle of the night. Its dark, you dont wana turn on the light, and you dont wanna piss all over the seat. Its understandable. But if he gets caught in the locker room doin that….

  • Oliver Posted: Apr.30 at 11:43 am
pee’ing in the dark is dangerous! haven’t you ever watched curb your enthusiasm

  • Max Airington Posted: Apr.30 at 11:50 am
That’s what I was talkin about.

  • SteveSmith#8fan Posted: Apr.30 at 11:52 am
Yeah Dirk you may want to step it up any minute now.

  • Oliver Posted: Apr.30 at 11:53 am
well im glad we cleared that up

  • ALX8725 Posted: Apr.30 at 11:53 am
Monta was the recently Most Improved Player of the year, not 6th man of the year.

  • dez Posted: Apr.30 at 11:55 am
As much as I hate the mavs…I REALLY hate Stackhouse. but only bc he’s annoyingly good sometimes.

  • Khalid Salaam Posted: Apr.30 at 11:59 am
Alx8725 good catch. barbosa was the 6th man. thats what happens when you try to type and read emails at the same time on monday mornings while also eating a toasted bagel with P&J.

  • deestarbuckz Posted: Apr.30 at 12:03 pm
At least Stack WANTS to play in this series…

  • Kadavour Posted: Apr.30 at 12:10 pm
Dirk has proven that he’s not playoff basketball material. the mavs need to run the offense through J5 (good one Khalid). I think the mavs won’t get blown out in Dallas if Avery starts Jet, Harris, Stack, J5 and Dirk. Anything else and they’ll get murdered…AGAIN.

  • seppo Posted: Apr.30 at 12:11 pm
If the Mavs lose, I can´t see Nowitzki coming back from Germany after the summer. He´s done. I don´t think there are too many fans left who want to see this heartless choke artist, who´s singlehandedly trying to ruin a whole franchise.

  • Kadavour Posted: Apr.30 at 12:13 pm
i think i heard ridiculous stat that the mavs lost just 2 games when Howard scores 25 or more? can anyone corroborate this, or is it bullshit?

  • Derms Posted: Apr.30 at 12:20 pm
I just hope the Warriors win, and then ghost ride the team bus and get hyphy in cuban’s face. Do you smell me?

  • ALX8725 Posted: Apr.30 at 12:20 pm
Josh Howard has been getting all the points he wants to get all series, as a Warriors fan (I’ve been watching him play against us long before the series), I can terrifyingly say that he is the one true threat that Dallas has against the Warriors. No one on the Warriors can stop him, too bad Josh cant be a playmaker, hes too much of a prototypical small forward. and even if the Warriors can’t stop him, “it takes 5. you’re not a fool, are you?”

  • Tripset30 Posted: Apr.30 at 12:39 pm
Slam staff… I want to make a bet with you. I’m a senior at Towson University and a journalism major who has read your mag religiously since the age of 14, and your web site is single-handedly responsible for me doing a Van Wilder imitation in college. I need an internship to graduate. I have a little bit of course experience in HTML and I’m a basketball fanatic with a penchant for writing killer prose. So, with that being said… if and WHEN my Mavericks come back to win this series, I would like an internship. If Dallas loses, I’ll simply send pics of me wearing a Baron Davis jersey and burning a Dirk Nowitzki one. You win either way.

  • DubsGonDoIt Posted: Apr.30 at 12:44 pm
First off, what a game!!! Best Warriors have played all year as far as being able to stay close all game even when they weren’t playing particularly well & then turning it on to end out quarters. Baron carried the team & did what Nellie told him to do “Dominate”. Not only did I get to dance in my living room once last night when he hit the at the half, I got to get my grove on after his boom dizzle dunk at the end of the third & when he hit the pull back j around the top of the key in the fourth. After that shot I knew they were gonna win (although Dirk jacking tres was scary at the end). Game 5 I see the Mavs looking to J-Ho LOL (worst nickname ever) & Stackhouse & looking to control the tiempo in Dallas. Still, I don’t know, I’ve been saying the Dubs are going to win in 6, but now I can see it possibly being in 5.

khalid, i totally agree that dirk’s been a lil sissy bitch this series. i thought he was an mvp last year after what he did to the spurs, and this year after the regular season. a regular season mvp maybe, but sure as hell not the league’s mvp. but did you guys see dirk last year against san an? he killed em! they couldn’t double him, they couldn’t single cover him. bowen was too small, duncan (foul trouble too) was too slow w/ his injured feet. so what was the difference? maybe it’s cuz he got bailed out like no other by the refs last year? i marvelled at his ability to kill the spurs inside & out, though howard was huge too. but he also got a ridiculous foul from bowen to win a game, and he charged into duncan backing away to somehow foul out duncan. this series, they’re lettin him play. how can you regress so much in 1 year?

  • javed Posted: Apr.30 at 1:03 pm
DIIIRRRKKK is a choke artist he sucks like a bag juice

  • Darksaber Posted: Apr.30 at 1:03 pm
i swear, if they lose this series, and Dirk wins MVP (reg. season), ima heckle the hell out of his ass when he comes over to the alps for the first time this summer (swiss allstar b-ball camp star attraction), cause no way any MVP, at least none who likes to hunt for mexican girls, goes down like this. this is getting me really worked up. C’mon Mavs

  • Darksaber Posted: Apr.30 at 1:06 pm
Hand over the offense to Jet, Stack and Josh, Avery. Zee german’s nutz are shrinking as we speak. What an utter dissapointement.

  • javed Posted: Apr.30 at 1:06 pm
THE NBA SHOULD KNOW THAT DIRK AIN’T NO DAMN MVP, IT’S NASHTY OR MAMBA

  • javed Posted: Apr.30 at 1:13 pm
DIRK A BATTY BOI TELL HIM FI GO DRIVE A VOLKS WAGON

Tripset30… you have not burned your jersey already?

  • sunkist Posted: Apr.30 at 2:32 pm
yo khalid this is off topic but are u muslim?

  • Khalid Salaam Posted: Apr.30 at 2:43 pm
why yes i am. raised as one from my days as a young’n. although through my years i’ve grown to view every religion with a bit of contempt. it so divisive that i usually reply by saying i’m a spiritual person who believes in a higher power but also in the goodness of humanity. so sunkist, are you friend or foe?

  • tike Posted: Apr.30 at 2:43 pm
Baron “the bodyguard” Davis….dirk did hit a couple of threes at the end to give mavs a scare.

  • Darksaber Posted: Apr.30 at 2:58 pm
This surprising ass whooping G-State is handing out would hurt me more if they didn’t have Davis on that team. i am in awe of that man’s game. Jeez, couldn’t this be Mambiatch and his team of girls in yellow/purple? Sucks

  • StephenJacksonLovesOakland Posted: Apr.30 at 3:59 pm
Nellie prefers scotch over whiskey. And when they win the series, there’s going to be multiple fires in Oakland from the riots.. with Stephen Jackson in the middle of it all with his strap in the air.

  • Dblizzy! Posted: Apr.30 at 4:12 pm
Looks like Nash just locked up his 3rd str8 MVP. He should thank Dirk for helping him make history!

  • smoke Posted: Apr.30 at 5:32 pm
    Dirk is soft.

  • geethree Posted: Apr.30 at 6:53 pm
Golden State is the BEST thing about this year’s playoffs. Baron Davis is my new favorite playa. Hey GS fans- here’s one for you:
http://www.raytracer.com/baron/baron300.jpg i wanted to make the 300 say 3-1 but i gotta get back to work! Dallas blows!

  • Dennard C Posted: Apr.30 at 7:00 pm
Dirk did get bailed out by the refs against the Spurs last year; especially in games 3 & 4.

  • Dennard C Posted: Apr.30 at 7:01 pm
And Baron Davis’ nickname isn’t “The Bodyguard”, it’s “Too Easy”

  • Kadavour Posted: Apr.30 at 7:45 pm
can someone PLEASE post a vid of stackhouse blocking J.Rich’s dunk attempt VeeDub for MVP? what a joke

  • Ice Posted: Apr.30 at 9:10 pm
Well, well, well. Where’s the loyalty? Can’t wait to see next month’s article or even next week’s blog. What will you say if Golden State falters and the Mavs pull it off? All this makes for exciting basketball does it not? One man doesn’t make the team, you should know that. Patrick Ewing couldn’t bring it home for the Knicks, Jordan had Pippen, Kobe had Shaq. The media made Dirk of course with the assistance of his Publicist. But aren’t you a spoke on that very same wheel that gassed him up. I hope for your sake that Dirk doesn’t score 60 and the Mavs do lose, that way you won’t have to retract all your hateration, issue an apology, and ride the bandwagon the other direction. Make sure that saddle is fitted cuz you might be on for a long ride. Go MAVS!!

  • dj Posted: May.1 at 2:26 am
if you think about it, golden state is everything the stodgy old “establishment” hates in todays nba all rolled into one: the shoot-first PG (BD), the guy who shot up a strip club and punched a fan (WHOOO), straight from HS prodigy (monta), the slam dunk champ who never got into the playoffs (jrich), and two tatted dudes w/mohawks (barnes and at one time al harrington). i love it.

  • Chris Posted: May.1 at 4:28 am
Khalid, you, my friend, are the man.

  • Khalid Salaam Posted: May.1 at 11:21 am
Ice, i never ride bandwagons. I create them. And i never retract my hateration. I win.

  • Michael Posted: May.1 at 7:46 pm
I think the Mavericks should just go out and do what they do….WIN!!!!!But when the game starts hit me back and tell me YOU TOLD ME SO!!! PS:Dirk Is Going To Win MVP For Sure!!!!!!

  • Little B Posted: May.4 at 1:34 am
IF SOME STARTED A WEBSITE TO HAVE DIRK TRADED…I WOULD SO JOIN!!! I have always thought that dirk sucks so bad during the playoffs it doesn’t matter
their record is so good if dirk can’t defend, go to the hole, make shots happen, and be aggressive then why is he here? Because he does well in the regular season well look what it has done for us since he has been here. If he isn’t getting fouled and shooting frees.. there is a problem. If he isn’t making shots or running to the hole there is a problem. If he is just slowly moving up and down the floor there is a problem… bottom line he suck every playoff he pulls through 2 games but slacks off
all the time….Please some start a trade dirk website I would so promote you. Thanks

  • Shuttlesworth, J Posted: May.4 at 2:38 am
And D-Wade was talking junk about Dirk…now they’re both goin’ fishin…AWESOME… GO AMARE!

  • Toya Posted: May.11 at 8:31 pm
Little B: The knee-jerk reaction is waaay ova the top! Do U live here…in Dallas?? Yea or ne…U know better…Dirk is not goin anywhere! The bashing is a bit old regarding Dirk.
Damn, whether we like it or not, the MVP award is to the best player during the reg. season. The man was that- and on the team with the best record. Period. Dirk averages 24.6 ppg, down some from last year-26.6ppg . He’s at 90%FT, 3apg, 9 rpg, and 40% from 3-pt. Not a greedy guy, & he’s recognized & trusted the talent around him, willing for them to get better (i.e. Josh Howard, who is now the 2nd highest scorer for the Mavs-19ppg). That’s what MVP’s do–help make his other players better AROUND him, like Nash did. (NOT KOBE…give him the scoring title, will ya!!) Yeah, sometimes Dirk’s too willing- losing the SELFISH streak-that works against him. AND, I really think folks should stop comparing Nash- a PG and Dirk, well…(Power?) Forward. Being a beast is not in #41′s DNA, neva’ will be. What Avery Johnson needs to do is get a younger version of Stackhouse…void of the “shoot-first” mentality that Stack had his first few yrs in the NBA! But we LOVE HIM! LOL! No doubt, Dirk ain’t the American Gansta’ and we in Dallas & the rest need to stop hoping for him to be that. Hell I’m mad as hell we’re resigned to the Texas Rangers, but now I’ve realized (well I won’t say too much) we can’t do anything but wait til next season… And turn the channel/hide when our local news stations air the MVP presentation Conference! Oh, and Brother Salaam…it’s DeSagana (not Desagna-huh?) Diop. U know betta (Wink-Wink!)!!

Good first paragraph, but the rest is rubbish
