Why Didn’t Kevin Garnett Become a Warrior?

Plus: Vin Baker says he’s not guilty.

by Marcel Mutoni

-Vin Baker pleaded not guilty to drunk driving charges today.

-Here are the guys expected to show up for Team USA’s minicamp this weekend.

-Why did the rumored KG-to-Golden State trade fall apart? One man, thanks to “very high level sources–sources with big jobs on big NBA franchises who deal with every other team all of the time”, attempts to break it down.

These are sources who say they know what happened on June 28, when most smart NBA execs believe the Warriors had a deal in place to land KG in a three-team extravaganza involving Jason Richardson… then it didn’t happen.

-Miami and Steve Francis are in talks.

The Heat and Francis’ agent, Jeff Fried, had discussions on Monday.

The Heat can offer a starting salary that is all or a part of its $5.4 million mid-level exception; all or part of the $1.8 million bi-annual exception; or the eight-year veteran’s minimum of $1.1 million.

-And finally for today: Unless your name is Bill Gates, do not go to southern Arizona for medical care.

McHale you iiiiiiidiot!!! Pay your phone bill dumbass!!!

  • dpak

if francis gets a ring i’ll kill myself.

  • Chad

Going to Miami won’t get Francis a ring. I think that ship has sailed.

Vin Baker might have had some leftover alcohol in his system from like 15 years ago. That guy’s urinary tract is like the f’n Red Hook Brewery.

  • Tariq

I’m waiting for Don Delillo to write a fictionalized version of that draft-day incident.

Deron Williams is probably going to be the starting point guard for Team USA. He will be a perfect fit with Kobe, Lebron, Melo, and Bosh. I know that has to be the starting five for USA. I just hope we don’t let another europe big baby dominate us like last year. play wit it.

  • http://slamonline.com Russ Bengtson

Steve Francis should sign with Vancouver. And I’m fully aware there’s no NBA team there.

i hope lebronze, melo, and bosh dont plan on shooting much

Bosh kinda sucked for team USA a couple of years ago. And Sofoklis Schortsianitis looks like he’s eaten the Big Baby, if you look at him now.

  • http://yahoo.com DP

ah thats a bunch of booty clay! Kobe is not going to hog the ball because I don’t think nobody on the team will let him. Carmelo took all the shots last year and he will have to share with Mr. 81 now.play wit it.

  • DDC

I just hope the US can win a gold next year. The main thing they have to do is play D.

  • daniel

francis is so cheap going to miami. he wont play any minutes. he may as well go to a playoff team to contribute not just ride the coat tails to a ring.

  • RV

I dont think Francis and cheap can be said in the same sentence

  • http://slamonline.com Russ Bengtson

Why would he be riding coattails in Miami? Dude’s only 30, has been an All-Star, and is bound to have a rebound year after the disaster in NY. Not to mention Dwyane Wade won’t be healthy at the start of the season. And what, Jason Williams is gonna keep him glued to the bench? If Francis goes to Miami, he’ll be a key piece.

  • Adrian

Russ, you read my mind. And said it better. And stuff.

  • Mo Charlo

If there is a God, HE will make it so that Stevie goes to the Grizzlies. Also, I’m going to start a petition to search for a better nickname for him than “The Franchise.” It just doesn’t fit. How about “Moochie Norris’s meal ticket” or “Coolasacat Cuttino’s Ex-Best Friend”?

  • Adrian

Considering he plays no defence…how about “Sieve Francis”…?

  • bails1

francis needs to go back to orlando him jameer rashard dwight even hedo they would not be too shabby

  • bails1

i was racking my brain trying to think of the perfect fit for him and cant think of a better team orlando is a decent 2 away from being beasts

DP: a team of Chauncey, Kobe, LBJ, Amare, Dwight Howard sounds abit better to me. Altough I agree, Deron is perfect for the USA team. Chris Bosh? I dont think he should make the team, Elton Brand/Carlos Boozer/Amare/Howard are all better. Then you gotta have Redd, KB, Melo, LBJ. Then throw in at least 2 PGs (Chauncey and Deron). Also you gotta have either Bowen or Battier in there. Thats 11. 12th spot might go to Bosh simply cuz looks like Shawn Marion is ‘injured’.

  • http://yahoo.com DP

bootlace I forgot all about Billups. I guess I just like Bosh because he was so good this regular season but during the Fiba, he was awful. Yeah Amare should take his spot and Howard at Center. Kirk Hinrich, get ready for your spot to be taken this summer. play wit it.

Brand and Bowen are ineligible guys.

  • http://nothinpersonal8.blogspot.com/ nothin _personal

    Boozer too.

Before the competition began (SHEED!)Wallace and Fat Joe held a little informal practice, in which Joe, playing as the Mavericks, pretty much took the host—Wallace—to school. ‘Sheed had the play of the game, though, when his got his Atlanta team to play some mean defense, resulting in a wicked Shareef Abdur-Rahim block of what looked like it was going be an incredible driving dunk by Michael Finley.

Wallace was playing at a disadvantage—he was multitasking the whole time. Not only was his mom whispering in his ear for part of it, but he also took about a dozen phone calls, even as he manipulated the controls well enough to execute a remarkable Dion Glover breakaway dunk. He was losing badly at halftime, though, and decided he had seen enough. Instead of staying to lead his cyber-Hawks to a comeback, he conceded the game to Joe and got up to do some schmoozing.

nothin_personal, what you mean ineligible? Did they get a slip from the doctor?

  • http://nothinpersonal8.blogspot.com/ nothin _personal

Probably. Thats what the Usa basketball camp is saying. Just 17 players to pick from. Check the 2nd link from above.

  • Keith

Where is Penny Hardaway these days? Last I heard he got released by the Magic…

  • http://slamonline.com Russ Bengtson

Even though I’d read it correctly several times before, I just misread the subhead of this post as “Vin Baker says he’s not gully.” Which, I suppose, is equally true.

  • mr. 1738

kobe only is a hog because his second is lamar “can’t finish when it matters” odom would you wouldn’t pass the ball if you had kwame on the block either

  • http://www.slamonline.russia.com rade

It will be great watching Argentina beat up on Usa again in the pan american games or whatever you call them.

  • Pais

The US team won’t be a serious contender in international play untill they decide to include a real center and a real point guard.
Bosh is not a center. Untill this happens…well get used to losing.

  • http://www.yahoo.com J-bee

I’m wondering, there are too plenty of players, why US team was so confident to put the best of the best players. Rem what Ginobili said last time? Seems like still underestimating others huhhh! lets see what US can bring…
