You Can’t Buy the Blazers

Plus: Iverson Addresses Ref Scandal

by Marcel Mutoni

-One of the bookmakers in the Don-a-gie scandal could end up facing charges.

-Paul Allen says that despite a published report in the NY Sun claiming that a Michigan-based group is interested in purchasing the Blazers, the team is not for sale. Sorry, guys.

-Should the Heat go after Smush Parker? Please, Miami, take him away.

-Hakeem Olajuwon talks about how he created “The Dream Shake”. David Robinson, the poor guy, is featured prominently.

-Allen Iverson on the ref scandal (Via: TBL):

“All I can say is, it’s good to see the shoe on the other foot,” Denver Nuggets superstar guard Allen Iverson tells NEWSWEEK. “To see someone other than players getting talked about and criticized is something I didn’t ever see coming.

I’m not happy about it because it makes the entire game look bad, but hopefully those people who think it’s just the players that cause problems will think twice. It’s more complicated than that.”

(Well put, Allen.)

In the same article, an unnamed Knick says that he’s sure Don-a-gie isn’t the only crooked ref.

-If you’re in the D.C. area this Sunday, you might wanna swing by the Goodman League’s summer game. Kevin Durant and Gilbert Arenas are expected to show up for the 7pm run, and it’ll obviously be tremendous. (Via: DC Sports Bog)

-And finally for today: LZ Granderson pens what I consider to be the best piece to appear on Page 2 in a very long time. Bravo.

Alright, have a good weekend everyone. I look forward to getting re-acquainted with my bed over the next couple of days.

Smush Parker. Yeah he’s the answer to our prayers.

Also cosign on the LZ piece. And while Smush had his moments for the Lakers for the last couple of years, especially considering his salary, it will bring me much joy if Miami signs his ass. Shaq will then be exposed for the terrible help defender that he is, as he is too slow to get the block, yet “tries” to anyway, and thus loses his rebounding position. Zo, however, may then to be forced to play big minutes, and we’ll have to deal with his fist pumps and gyrations after a common rebound.

Since when has Steph canged his nickname to “Unamed”?

  • http://aspov.blogspot.com Cheryl

Wow. Awesome bit of writing by LZ. Trust.

  • Dblizzy!

I still can’t fathom how Smush Parker let his ego get in the way of that fact that he was in the LA Lakers starting backcourt with Kobe while being coached by Phil Jackson.

According to Wikipedia(which means its probably made up),he is divorced with a son and is the only openly gay sportwriter

  • Chukaz

I can totally see Smush playing in Antartica Basketball Association next season. Oh, and he is gonna be one of their best players. I heard that they are up to 2 teams with 10 7 players per team. Smush will be one of the top 15 players on their league. No doubt… well, just a little bit.

  • chiqo

    dream is awesome.

shaq doesnt want it with hakeem

  • Slim

Great piece LZ. It’s so easy to throw out sweeping generalizations about people without realizing where they come from and how that might affect them to the present day.

  • rob

hakeem looks like he is still playing…didn’t age a bit.

If the Heat won another ring with Smush, then it’ll be another blow.

  • dott

It’s not a matter of Smush outplaying Williams you idiot, they play on the same team, they just need another point guard.

so now eddy curry was robbed at gunpoint in his home in chicago, whos next, Wade? Its one thing to get robbed in public, but how are these guys not able to protect their own home? Time to trade in some bling for a security system upgrade

  • Arthur

AI is just nuts. He’s right about seing the other faces of NBA problems outside of players but MOST of the problems are coming from the players, he’s some kind of a picture boy for that…

  • http://www.slamonline.com Jake Appleman

E City’s a good dude. It’s sad that happened to him.

  • tike

Did Antoine Walker get robbed as well in Chicago…Even athelets get it too..

Man, rich people do not lock their houses, or at the most they dont lock all their doors, they figure they live in a “safe” hood, so they dont do it (my sister used to be a backup singer, so we got to go to certain peoples houses).
Then the ones that do take security seriously, their homes are so far from the road, with tree’s around it. IF they dont live in a gated community, with a guard for the area and the home, it’s easy to break into them.
