Barkley on Boston: Ugly Team, Ugly Unis

The Round Mound was recently interviewed by NESN, and he was asked about the new-look Celtics. As usual, Barkley had an unusual and amusing take on the matter:

You know the Celtics, their uniforms have gotten better. And they got a better looking team, because in the 80s, with McHale, Bird, and Parish, they had the ugliest team in NBA history. They had Bill Walton [he] was ugly too. I think their team is much better looking with Paul and Ray and Kevin. But their uniforms have gotten better and their team has gotten much better looking in the 2000s.

Normally, I agree with a lot of what Sir Charles has to say, but this…this is just wrong.

I mean, of course Bird and co. were ugly (repulsive, even), but they had some really nice jerseys. In fact, I would rank the Celtic unis from the ’80s in the top 5 among the dopest jerseys ever.

    The 90′s Knicks were horrifying. Anthony Mason, Patrick Ewing, Derek Harper, Starks, Oak, Greg Anthony. I guess Charles Smith and Charlie Ward weren’t gross in a nicley groomed sort of a way.

    when sir charles says your ugly you’ve got to beleive it. but if you’re looking for the ugliest team in the nba, look at the charlotte bobcats. worst uniform color (orange?? unis) what were they thinking?? about the boston unis did not slam rate the black and green jerseys classic materail. i agree with you. (SLAM 100 reader’s poll remember?)

    The Boston Celtics Uni’s are’nt ugly just really,really,plain looking.I still hate the Celtics,Lakers rule!Another thing why do they ask Charles Barkleys opinon on everything?!

    Yeah, they were ugly (and who you calling ugly, Charles?) but they won. The C’s road jersey is a bona fide classic. I’m behind the new-look Celtics, but they’re going to have to actually win some games. Not just look good.

    Yeah that was an ugly looking team. And I’m gonna have to agree with chuck about the unis. Everyone’s looked alright but those things were sick. Like tuberculosis sick.
