Is Stephon About to Snitch on Isiah?

Let the War Begin

by Marcel Mutoni

The situation in New York is getting uglier by the minute. Yesterday, Stephon Marbury left the team in Phoenix and flew back to Gotham, saying that coach Isiah Thomas had given him permission to jet.

In the Daily News this morning, Frank Isola describes a stunning scene on the team plane before last night’s game, when Marbury was informed that he was being pulled from the starting lineup. In a fit of rage, Stephon reportedly threatened to spill the beans on Isiah:

“Isiah has to start me,” Marbury fumed, according to the source. “I’ve got so much (stuff) on Isiah and he knows it. He thinks he can (get) me. But I’ll (get) him first. You have no idea what I know.”

The war is officially on!

After going through a devastating offseason, things are, almost inexplicably, about to get much worse for the Knicks.

I suppose it’s only fitting that the man who Isiah Thomas triumphantly brought back home will ultimately prove to be his undoing. Sadly, they deserve each other.

dundundun… drama, drama. This could get ugly.

  • http://slamonline.com Holly MacKenzie

Although it is terrifying to imagine the things Steph might know.

  • peteb80

    So Isiah shot Tupac?

  • http://joeloholic.wordpress.com Joel O’s

I actually sympathize with Starbury. You can’t really blame him for the Knicks’ undoing. But they are doing just that, and are trying to make him the scapegoat again.

  • http://whitehoteboysworld.blogspot.com white hot eboy

Gee, I wonder if Gorilla-Face was a liar?

  • http://joeloholic.wordpress.com Joel O’s

Why move Starbury? Fire Isiah! Duck Folan, for heaven’s sake. The Knicks have got to be the worst-run NBA franchise ever.

  • Keith

Steph is my new favourite superhero.

  • http://SLam SLIM

men shawty lisah is a bitch i who just tell on that hoe. Just for pull a move off like dat.

  • beantown’s Finest

WOW!!!! this is seriously going to blow up. what is thomas to do? everywhere he goes, he’s messing things up. heads are saying marbury is a team cancer, i beg to differ. but man oh man, the knicks got there hands full this season.

  • Jared

there are people starving in america

  • http://slamonline.com Sam Rubenstein

Isiah said the phrase “We are going to keep this in house” approx. 85 times yesterday. Tough to do that if there’s a snitch lurking.

  • Jared

    anybody see steph being wacked?

  • TADOne

Isiah was the 2nd shooter on the grassy knoll?

  • TADOne

Steph should be getting a call from Carmelo here very soon.

  • http://slamonline.com Russ Bengtson

I find it funny that someone snitched on Steph so we could know that Steph might snitch on Isiah. Guess Carmelo’s never gonna play for the Knicks.

  • http://whitehoteboysworld.blogspot.com white hot eboy

I blame Eddy Curry, since he tipped Steph off to their respective non-starting status.

  • Keith

I think Tim Donaghie is involved in here somewhere..

  • Jared

    I never thought I’d say it, but…HIRE LAY-DEN

  • Captain America

So, there was more than Steph and the ‘tern in the “pick up” truck in front of da strip club that day? Dolan and Zeke…oh my

  • Jared

    i’m buggin…I didn’t mean it…go get kiki tho

  • maio

Toni Kukoc would never do that

  • neaorin

    This can only end well.

  • Captain America

Funny how Thomas talks about a need for leadership.

  • http://whitehoteboysworld.blogspot.com white hot eboy

You know, I get pissed off on flights when all I get is trail mix or peanuts. I need to try the fly-back to PBIA to protest the lack of food products offered.

  • Jared

neaorin you have a good point, i don’t kno if you’re being sarcastic or not, but you’re right, can things get worse for this team? they can only get better

  • BETCATS

    secrets tear families apart

  • Allenp

Marbury is a sucker. No matter what, snitching when you don’t get your way is a sucker move. Besides, Nate Robinson has played better than him this season particularly on defense. If Marbury could learn how to stay with man on defense (how did he lose Jason Williams on that game winner?) then maybe he could stay in the starting lineups.

  • Rasheedionics

Glad to see that Steph doesn’t subscribe to “no snitching” policy… Bring them down Steph!!!

  • Allenp

One last thing, how does this prove that Isiah is a horrible GM? Come on, look at the actual talent and compare it to when Isiah took over and tell me what other GM has done a better job of assembling pieces in a shorter amount of time? Seriously, could people actually attempt to objectively look at the talent on the roster before they make comments.

  • http://whitehoteboysworld.blogspot.com white hot eboy

Allenp is being funny. You should have put a disclaimer in your posts though, because others will be confused that you meant to say those things as truths.

  • Rasheedionics

What Isiah Thomas was thinking putting Steph on J Will at the end of that game. Everyone knows J Will is super fast. It’s coache’s job to recognize his players strength and weaknesses and use them accordingly. Steph is what he’s been his entire career: shoot first point guard who play mediocre defense. He’s not going to change at this point of his career. I don’t know what Knicks expect from him. Sounds like they’re using him as a scapegoat.

  • BETCATS

Did isiah win his secret popcorn war?

  • http://mynameinorange.blogspot.com Hisham

Allenp, talent is only a part of the evaluation you make when you bring in a player. So in terms of looking at talent: yes, isaiah is a good GM. He should also have looked at work ethic, commitment to the team, locker room presence, how does a player fit into our system, can a player handle/accept the role i have in mind for him, etc. To judge by talent alone isn’t very smart

  • http://mynameinorange.blogspot.com Hisham

Although at the time that he brought Steph in, i totally agreed with it. It’s too bad he only played great for the first 10 games or so, when he had a lot of games with 15+ and even 20+ assists. But when Stephon Marbury starts to lose games, it’s done. He goes from hero to zero

  • BETCATS

i thought Tim Thomas was supposed to save the Knicks but i was wrong about that.

  • Jared

Allen I see where you’re coming from, but what good is talent on teams that have respectively had winning percentages of .476, .402, .280, and .402…and are currently on their way to 2-7? They have a lot of talent, and pieces, but they don’t fit! They don’t mesh. They never have. Blame coaching, blame front office drama, go ahead and blame david lee and jamal crawfords injurys last season, but what has this team done to show their GM has made the right moves? When have they looked good? Over 7-game stretches here and there? They have useless talent because they have no chemistry. I’d rather have 5 guys that wanna make an extra pass and play defense than 5 guys who might be able to avg 20 points a game if they’re a teams go to guy. Zeke has brought in talent, but to no avail…he is still to blame.

  • http://mynameinorange.blogspot.com Hisham

    Or, what Jared said

  • http://why-bother-reading.blogspot.com/ H to the izzo

Is AllenP being serious or is he actually Isiah?

  • http://www.slamonline.com Ryan Jones

Apparently Steph has something on Rasheedionics, too. It must be some serious blackmail material if you’re gonna keeping defending dude like this.

  • http://slamonline.com Russ Bengtson

    Hisham and Jared, bravo.

  • http://www.friendster.com/sesa Sesa

    Isiah doesn’t deserve Stephon.

  • http://whitehoteboysworld.blogspot.com white hot eboy

The Knicks don’t deserve the Knicks. Poor city. It’s been through enough.

  • http://slamonline.com Russ Bengtson

Hey Knick fans, look on the bright side! Um, there IS a bright side, right? Right?

  • Jared

Imagine if they made a “Go New York, Go New York, Go” song for this Knicks team? Probably be the funniest one yet…

  • http://www.slamonline.com Ryan Jones

“Go New York Go New York Go! Seriously, get the f*ck out of here.” Not sure how tuneful that is, but it works, no?

  • Hi!

so if Isiah starts stephon next game does that mean he did some really messed up stuff that stephon knows about?

  • http://why-bother-reading.blogspot.com/ H to the izzo

The bright side is:Isiah won’t live forever.

  • http://slamonline.com Russ Bengtson

Appropriate that their main theme is based on a John Denver song, seeing how ol’ JD went out. THE PLANE BE SINKIN’.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Ryan Jones

That actually doesn’t make any f*cking sense, Russ.

  • http://slamonline.com Russ Bengtson

    Yeah well, why start now?

  • http://fsjfkff.com Jukai

Guys, stop all noise, stay quiet, and listen… did you hear that? I think that was Stern crapping himself.

“I’ve seen the lights go out on Broadway-
I saw the ruins at my feet,
You know we almost didn’t notice it-
We’d see it all the time on Forty-Second Street.”

  • http://www.myspace.com/2536545 Bryan

I’ve liked the Knicks since birth but before seventh grade I didn’t watch much basketball outside of the Knicks. Then the 96 draft class came out and captured my imagination.Kobe dunking on everyone.Allen Iverson crossing over Jordan, and Stephon Marbury shooting a bankshot jumper backwards over his head.If it wasn’t for these guys I wouldn’t even be the kind of fan I am today. So when the Knicks picked up Stephon no one was happier than I was. To see it end like this just kills me and makes me wonder why I even bother liking basketball.Maybe it’s an over reaction and it’s not gonna change at all, but how could it work out for both sides now?How can I cheer for the Knicks with the same fire when they let one of my all time favorite players go for very personal reasons?Sports suck.

  • neaorin

That’s exactly what I’m wondering, Hi. Although I’m thinking Steph will probably go down with a “groin pull” or whatever fake injury he can think of before the next game.

  • http://www.myspace.com/2536545 Bryan

It also amazes me how much media perception changed since then. When Allen Iverson won rookie of the year there was outrage because he was selfish and Marbusy was such a “pure unselfish point guard”.For the last 7 years no one has been called selfish more than Stephon.

  • http://fsjfkff.com Jukai

For the past seven years, I’ve never been a bigger Stephon fan than right now, Bryan.

  • http://why-bother-reading.blogspot.com/ H to the izzo

Referencing Billy Joel should be like…banned in these parts

  • http://fsjfkff.com Jukai

I mean, who knows what Starbury is gonna snitch about. This could unearth five, maybe six unsolved murders!

  • http://whitehoteboysworld.blogspot.com white hot eboy

Izzo, Billy Joel, circa before your birth, was actually amazing.

So, what’s Demetris Nichols up to these days?

  • http://whitehoteboysworld.blogspot.com white hot eboy

Must be an American thing. Izzo probably rides in the Elton John parade car.

  • http://www.myspace.com/2536545 Bryan

Piano Man is amazing. Thank God for the subject change because my heart is broken over these Knicks. I said it yesterday and I’ll repeat it: No one says f*ck you fans more than the Knicks do.

  • Rasheedionics

Steph ain’t got s**t on me. The bottom line is are Knicks a better team without him? No f***ing way! It’s ludicrious to even argue against that point.

  • http://www.myspace.com/2536545 Bryan

Pat Riley should suit up huh? He wasn’t very good in his prime so I don’t know how good he would be at 60+ years old.

Charlie Ward is only 37. And the Knicks could use all the help from God they can get.

  • http://www.myspace.com/2536545 Bryan

    You mock my pain.

  • http://slamonline.com Russ Bengtson

Howard Eisley turns 35 in December.

  • Rasheedionics

That’s like all those people who were arguing that Sixers would be better off without Allen Iverson because he’s too selfish and this and that. He might be all those things, but Sixers would’ve won way more games with him than without him. At least Sixers decided to go into rebuilding mode. What’s Knicks plan? Let’s dump Steph and go for championship? This move completely cancels out trading for Zach Randolph. You bring one 20 points scorer and cut another. There’s no logic or reason to any of these moves.

  • http://slamonline.com mutoni

You’ve lost the plot, Sheed. Allen Iverson led anotherwise crap Sixers team to the NBA Finals. Steph has never come anywhere close. We migth have to ban you for that one.

  • neaorin

It’s really too bad that Steph is so self-absorbed that he wouldn’t even consider coming off the bench as an option. He’ll still get about the same minutes, only he’ll likely spend more of them “defending” the Smush Parkers of this league rather than Jason Williamses.

  • http://whitehoteboysworld.blogspot.com white hot eboy

Shia, should I go on? I have a long list still readily available.

Russ if it makes you feel better, some “analyst” was talking today about how the Knicks are looking forward to the 2009 free agent class when they can pursue the likes of a ben gordon or luol deng…if this isn’t basketball hell it definitely aint as good as purgatory

    Poor and boring .

If Mardy hits Steph, he better run twice as fast as ‘Melo did after his sucker-punch.

Also, Steph’s last minute errata in the Heat game? Who else smells a conspiracy? Either he tanked on prupose… or, there’s something in the ball. (I used to say that, “There’s something in the ball,” sh*t everytime some nobody on the Bulls would hit a big shot against the “Clubber’s Lane” Knicks.)
