The Post Up: Welcome to LeBron’s World

Golden State stops the Hornets, Raptors rout Wizards and Iverson leads Denver.

By: Holly MacKenzie

Okay, first item of business. That LeBron dunk…. Of the year?! Holy Hell. Nevermind Amare and his Black Jesus, LeBron is the one playing otherworldly. To break it down: Bron is where its at. He’s GOT to get rid of that dirty mouth guard habit though. Even greatness can be gross.

But seriously, can we talk about him for just another minute? We are watching something special. The game is just too easy for him when he wants it to be. That final possession for Cleveland? So smooth, so effortless, so easy. What a game, performance, year, talent. LeBron James is it. I will stop gushing now but, damn!

You know it killed Pat Riley, racking up another loss to Stan Van Gundy. Rough. Funny how things work out like that. The Magic almost let an easy victory slip out of their hands.

Is it just me, or is Baron looking ridiculously ripped lately? More so than usual, I mean.

Chris Paul and Davis were fun tonight. Monta was playing out of his mind again. That Baron three with 3:20 left in the game was just ridic. How many feet behind the arc was he?

Raptors crushed the Wizards last night. It was ugly. Get well, Caron.

Darko with 14 points, 16 rebounds and 5 blocks… I’m just saying…What?!

This crazy flu season appears to have hit the NBA hard this year. It looks like every team has had it’s share of dealing with it and last night there were men down all over the place with “flu-like symptoms” and the Knicks lost two of the guys during the game. Gross stuff.

Looks like the league thought Renaldo Balkman’s elbow to Vujacic’s face was a little much as well because Balkman was handed a one game suspension for the move. He served the suspension in the Knicks loss to Utah last night.

What a horrible game between Milwaukee and Philadelphia last night. It was even worse than the Raptors/Wizards blowout.

I still can’t believe that LeBron alley oop. Excuse me while I kiss the sky. The guy can jump. Eyes peeking over the rim, ridiciulous! Yes, I love Kobe but, day by day I am finding it harder and harder to find fault in Bron’s game.

Big 20-20 performance from Brad Miller last night. Throw in 5 assists and 3 blocks and it was a good night for the Kings.

Toronto 122 Washington 83

One night after dropping a disappointing overtime loss in Washington to the Butler-less Wizards, the Raptors had a complete turnaround on their home floor and annihilated Washington 122-83. Thanks to connecting on 13-18 three-pointers and having a second quarter where they outscored the Wizards 33-18, the game was a blowout by halftime with the Raptors leading 61-41. Their lead would only grow in the second half as Toronto had six players reach double-figures and they were able to play their bench for extended minutes while their starters enjoyed the view from the sidelines. Andrea Bargnani led with 19 points, Chris Bosh had 16 points, Anthony Parker scored 15 and Juan Dixon added 12. Jose Calderon had 11 points and 11 assists with only one turnover. DeShawn Stevenson led Washington with 16 points, Andray Blatche had 12 points and 7 rebounds and Roger Mason scored 14. Antawn Jamison was held to only 11 points in the loss.

Philadelphia 112 Milwaukee 69

From beginning to end, the Philadelphia 76er’s throttled Milwaukee last night, winning the game by a 43-point margin. After going up by nine points at the end of the first quarter, the 76er’s outscored Milwaukee by at least 10 in each of the remaining three quarters of the game as they went up by a score of 51-32 at the half. Things went further downhill for the Bucks after the break as they managed only 37 points in the entire second half while Philadelphia had 35 points in the fourth quarter alone. While Philly shot 54% from the floor the Bucks came in at only 38%. Andre Iguodala had 18 points to lead the 76er’s while Andre Miller and Thaddeus Young added 14 points apiece. Reggie Evans scored 13 points to go with 9 rebounds as Sam Dalembert and Rodney Carney each had 12. Royal Ivey had 17 points for the Bucks who were sorely missing the shooting touch of Michael Redd, missing in action again with that knee strain. Mo Williams scored 14 points and Charlie Villanueva added 10 in the loss.

Denver 106 Memphis 102

In a battle of depleted teams the nine-man roster of the Grizzlies fell just short to the ten-man crew for Denver last night, dropping a 106-102 decision at home despite being up by seven with just three minutes remaining in the game. Denver was without Carmelo Anthony who recovered from an ankle sprain while Memphis was missing Pau Gasol and Mike Conley Jr. due to injuries and Stromile Swift because of a team-suspension. The first half of the game was a close one with Denver leading 54-52 at the break. In the third, the teams traded leads and tied things up more than once before Memphis would go up by five heading into the fourth and extending that lead to seven in the final minutes. When it came down to the wire Denver was solid, holding Memphis scoreless as they went on a 12-0 run to take control of the game. During the stretch, Denver had three-pointers from Anthony Carter and Linas Kleiza while Iverson knocked down all six of his free throws in the final 23 seconds of the game to clinch the win despite Rudy Gay’s 30-point, 10-rebound effort for Memphis. Iverson finished with 32 points, 12 assists and 4 steals while Carter had 18 points and Marcus Camby added 13 points, 19 rebounds and 5 blocked shots. Kleiza added 15. Besides Gay’s 30 points, Mike Miller had 22 points and 9 rebounds, Darko Milicic had 14 points, 16 boards and 5 blocks, and Kyle Lowry added 19.

Utah 100 New York 89

A quick start was all the Jazz needed to go on to their sixth straight victory last night. That they were facing a Knicks team who had played the night before didn’t hurt either. Leading 26-18 after the first period, the Jazz led the entire way through going up by as many as 17 before letting the Knicks trim their deficit down to seven points in the final minutes. Carlos Boozer and Deron Williams would respond for Utah and the Jazz would stave off the New York run to take the victory. New York was shorthanded as they lost Eddy Curry and Quentin Richardson in the first quarter with flu-like symptoms. Boozer finished with 17 points and rebounds while Deron Williams had 22 points and 12 assists and Paul Millsap scored 15. Mehmet Okur had 12 points and 11 rebounds and Andrei Kirilenko added 11 points. Jamal Crawford had 26 points and 9 assists to lead New York while Zach Randolph had 23 points and 8 rebounds. David Lee had 14 points and 12 rebounds and Jared Jeffries added 10 in the loss.

Orlando 107 Miami 91

Facing a Miami team that was without Dwyane Wade, Shaquille O’Neal and Udonis Haslem proved harder than the Magic might have thought. While Orlando led for most of the game the Heat put together a push early in the fourth to cut the Magic lead down to 83-80 after rookie Daequan Cook hit a jumper with 11 minutes remaining. After getting within three the Heat would not get any closer as Orlando surveyed the situation and reeled off an 18-1 run to regain control and come away with the win. The Magic had 52 rebounds as compared to only 29 from the undersized Heat in the contest and they outscored them 24-15 in the final quarter on their way to the victory. Hedo Turkoglu finished with a game high 27 points to go with 12 rebounds and 5 assists as Dwight Howard had 16 points, 13 rebounds and 4 blocked shots. Rashard Lewis scored 19 points and Maurice Evans added 13. Miami was led by Ricky Davis and his 21 points as Luke Jackson and Chris Quinn added 14 points apiece. Jason Williams had 11 points and 8 assists and Dorell Wright added 12 points.

Sacramento 105 Charlotte 91

With a close first half in the books and a 55-52 halftime lead, the Sacramento Kings used a strong third quarter to take control in their 105-91 victory against the Bobcats last night. outscoring the Bobcats 29-16 in the period, the Kings took an 84-68 advantage into the fourth. While Charlotte would cut the lead down to seven points early in the fourth, the Kings responded and stretched the lead back into double-digits, where it would stay until the buzzer sounded. Brad Miller had 22 points and a career-high 21 points to go along with 5 assists and 3 blocked shots to lead Sacramento. Kevin Martin also scored 22 points as Ron Artest added 21 and Mikki Moore had 10 points to go with 8 rebounds. Gerald Wallace had 25 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals and a block in the loss for the Bobcats while Raymond Felton had 16 points and 7 assists, Jason Richardson scored 11 and Emeka Okafor had a 13-point, 15-rebound double-double.

LA Clippers 95 Atlanta 88

The Clippers owe this victory to rookie Al Thorton. In addition to scoring a career-high 33 points, Thorton blocked a layup attempt by Acie Law to protect the Clipper lead after they watched helplessly as the Hawks went on a 19-2 run in the fourth to come back from 20 down. After a three-point play by Josh Smith the score sat at 91-88 with 46 seconds to go. While the Clippers would miss on their next possession, Thorton blocked the layup by Law, Joe Johnson’s jumper fell short and the Clippers made their free throws in the final seconds to protect their victory. It was a big moral victory for the Clippers who had only nine players available for the game and missed both, leading scorer Corey Maggette and leading rebounder Chris Kaman with the flu. Thorton’s 33 points off of the bench led all scorers in the game as LA had 14 points apiece from Tim Thomas and Sam Cassell as well as 12-point performances from Cuttino Mobley and Quinton Ross. Josh Smith led Atlanta with 21 points, 10 rebounds, 8 assists and 3 steals while Johnson finished with 17. Al Horford had 14 points and 10 rebounds and Josh Childress added 14 as well.

Golden State 116 New Orleans 103

After knocking down five three-pointers and lifting his team to a victory, Baron Davis was smiling as the boos rained down upon him and his Warriors in New Orleans. Stopping the Hornets’ nine-game winning streak, the Warriors bounced back from a loss in Houston the night before. After leading by four early into the fourth, Golden State went on one of their typical runs to extend their advantage to 13 points midway through the quarter. While the Hornets would stick around continuing to threaten, after Davis hit a long three with 3:21 remaining the game was all but sealed for the Warriors who connected on 13-27 three-pointers in the game. Stephen Jackson led the way offensively with 26 points as Davis added 23 points to go with his 9 assists, Matt Barnes had 17 points and Monta Ellis added 16 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists. Chris Paul had 28 points, 12 assists and 2 steals for New Orleans while David West had 24 points 13 rebounds and 5 blocked shots and Peja Stojakovic scored 20 points to go with his 10 rebounds. Tyson Chandler added 11 points and 14 rebounds in the loss.

Cleveland 84 Portland 83

Another front row fan heckling LeBron James meant another fourth quarter takeover and the Trailblazers losing in an 84-83 contest where James was the likely hero. While Portland led by 14 points early in the second half of their contest, the Cavaliers cut the lead in the fourth behind LeBron’s 17 points in the final period as they held Portland to only 15 as a team. It was after he had two shots blocked by Portland’s Joel Przybilla that James would begin his tear, knocking down three consecutive three-pointers to tie the game at 81 with two and a half left to play. After Travis Outlaw hit a shot to keep Portland ahead the Blazers would not score again and a made free throw by Drew Gooden coupled with two Portland misses set the scene for James to cap off his night in dramatic fashion with some game-winning heroics. With 5.9 seconds remaining on the clock James got the ball, drove to the basket and easily got the layup to go with .9 seconds remaining. It put the Cavs up one and gave them the victory. James finished with 37 points, 14 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals and 2 blocked shots as he was the only Cleveland player to reach double-figures. While Zydrunas Igauskas hauled down 13 rebounds, he scored only 7 points in the contest. Drew Gooden added 9 points and 7 rebounds. Brandon Roy finished with 16 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists for Portland who also got a 16-point performance from LaMarcus Aldridge to go along with 9 rebounds. Steve Blake added 10 points and Outlaw finished with 13.

Holly’s my friend. You can look it up.

  • white hot eboy Posted: Jan.31 at 9:39 am
Holly, no one would be mad at you for finding a place in your heart for the Cavs, too.

  • Holly MacKenzie Posted: Jan.31 at 9:40 am
hahahaha, Ryan my LeBron love is getting out of control. I cant contain it anymore. I am blaming YOU for this madness.

  • TADOne Posted: Jan.31 at 9:42 am
Good morning Holly. LeBron took OVER in the 4th last night! He hit like three straight 3 pointers. And that drive to end the game was crazy. You would think they would run a double team at LeBron and force someone else to make a play?!

  • Ryan Jones Posted: Jan.31 at 9:43 am
I spent last night switching between my two favorite players: Bron in Portland and young Mr. Love at Oregon State on FCS-Pacific. I went to bed around 11, with the Cavs getting hammered and LeBron all gimpy, and UCLA up 20 late second half (I think Kevin had four assists from outlet passes under his own basket. Seriously). It wasn’t until this morning that I realized A) Bron once again dominated late and the short-handed Cavs came back to win, and B) the UCLA-OSU game was a replay from four days ago. Oh well.

  • DP Posted: Jan.31 at 9:44 am
LeBron is that dude that makes me wish I could jump. back in fourth grade I was jumping sky high, but as the years go on I feel like I am so past my prime. Damn you LeBron. Damn you! play wit it.

  • Holly MacKenzie Posted: Jan.31 at 9:44 am
You can’t let Bron finish the game on a drive… too strong. too talented. too good. Damn my love affair with this man’s game has skyrocketed since last night.

  • white hot eboy Posted: Jan.31 at 9:44 am
Are we going to have THIS conversation again or should we all just give him the title now instead of waiting “for the future”. He is making it look routine, which is a sign of one thing=takeover.

  • Holly MacKenzie Posted: Jan.31 at 9:45 am
aahaha your b) was hilarious, Jones. I can’t believe you missed that fourth. It’s worth watching if you can get the archive on nba.com

  • Ryan Jones Posted: Jan.31 at 9:46 am
Glad I could help, Holly. Still plenty of room on the bandwagon.
Also, if I may beat Ben Osborne to the punch and railroad this post further into NCAA territory, props to Kansas State. Beasley was dope as expected, but how about Bill Walker putting up essentially the same line in 13 fewer minutes? Someday soon, if you haven’t already figured it out, you’ll understand why Slam’s been so high on Mr. Walker for so long.

  • white hot eboy Posted: Jan.31 at 9:46 am
Between Lebron’s showcase and the Warriors/Hornets game, sh*t was off the hook last night in the league.

  • Ryan Jones Posted: Jan.31 at 9:46 am
I will try to find a replay, but honestly? It’s like I’ve seen it so many times already over the past seven years…

  • TADOne Posted: Jan.31 at 9:47 am
I also saw some of that Kansas-Kansas St game and I will confirm that Michael Beasley is a beast! That kid will be a star.

  • DP Posted: Jan.31 at 9:47 am
Morale of the story is:Fans, please don’t make LeBron mad because that’s when he KILLS YOUR TEAM. I hope these people can learn before it’s too late. Bron will win around 6 MVP’s before this sh*t all said and done. play wit it.

  • Ryan Jones Posted: Jan.31 at 9:48 am
Russ will be here shortly to discuss just how far off the hook the Chicago Bulls have fallen. I know I misused the phrase there, but you get my point.

  • Jared Posted: Jan.31 at 9:48 am
Bill Walkers a killa! anybody see Bron talkin ish to B-Roy before the game last night. You knew from tip off it was gonna be all bron bron. Say he’s not the best! Say it!

  • Holly MacKenzie Posted: Jan.31 at 9:49 am
I didn’t see the KS game, surprise, surprise. I need some ncaa coverage here in Canada, dammit. I did see the guys popping their jerseys though, and good for them. Eboy, the Warriors against CP3 and crew was great. It was a perfect night.

  • Ryan Jones Posted: Jan.31 at 9:49 am
BTW, “Even greatness can be gross” is a line I wish I’d written. Good sh*t.

  • Ryne Nelson Posted: Jan.31 at 9:50 am
@Ryan – The Bulls have fallen. I think it was funny, thre was n artcle in the Sun-Times yesterday headlined “Better than the worst.” Now, it should read, “Worst than the worst.” haha

  • Holly MacKenzie Posted: Jan.31 at 9:50 am
I think the Bulls are thisclose to driving Russ mad. hahaah I’m looking forward to hearing what Myles has to say.

  • Ryne Nelson Posted: Jan.31 at 9:53 am
    @Jared – Kobe’s the best…but, please, let’s not get into it.

  • Holly MacKenzie Posted: Jan.31 at 9:53 am
and I just heard there is a mfing storm warning for Toronto tomorrow. If mother nature messes with my day, I will LOSE it. Seriously, now I’m going to be on edge all damn day.

  • DP Posted: Jan.31 at 9:53 am
Kansas=overrated as hell. Memphis=ncaa champions motherf*ckers. play wit it.

  • Holly MacKenzie Posted: Jan.31 at 9:54 am
Thanks, Ryan. I love that guy, but I get chills when I think of that mouth guard.

  • Ryne Nelson Posted: Jan.31 at 9:55 am
One dud was willing ot put money on the Bulls making the playoffs, and I didn’t take the bet. Figured Indiana and Atlanta were going to fall, and the Bulls were going to rise with Gordon, Deng , Joe Smith and Duhon returning. They’re the walking dead right now. There’s still hope for the playoffs.

  • Jared Posted: Jan.31 at 9:55 am
    DP you’re wylin…Ryne, agree to disagree…

  • TADOne Posted: Jan.31 at 9:55 am
There were storms yesterday and last night around Detroit Holly. TO is probably getting the after effects of that.

  • white hot eboy Posted: Jan.31 at 9:56 am
You guys just wait. Russ and I will take our lumps this season but when they both have a strong lottery pick next season, we’ll be back in full effect, brotherrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!! (Don’t mind me, I was listening to “Fear Of A Black Planet” on the way to work this morning.)

  • DP Posted: Jan.31 at 9:56 am
Kobe is the best Ryne, but Bron is breathing down his back with a blow torch right about now man. play wit it.

  • Holly MacKenzie Posted: Jan.31 at 9:57 am
Damn Tad. I’m not kidding. I don’t even want to imagine how tomorrow would go if I was stuck in an airport rather than the Laker locker room. Lakers are in Detroit tonight, too. I’m praying for some good weather because that just wouldn’t be funny.

  • Jared Posted: Jan.31 at 9:58 am
TAD you really think Stuckey or Afflalo deserve to be on the rook team instead of any of the guys that are there?

  • Ryne Nelson Posted: Jan.31 at 9:58 am
And what about Paul last night? Another great statistical night, but a sub par performance, otherwise. Baron had the better of the matchup in the bayou.

  • Ryne Nelson Posted: Jan.31 at 9:59 am
@Jared – If Stuckey didn’t break his hand, yest. If Affalo played 20 minutes per game, yes. But the two biggest snubs of the Rook Team: Noah and Thorton.

  • Jared Posted: Jan.31 at 10:01 am
Alright, but stuckey did break his hand, and afflalo doesn’t get the burn. Navarro was a fair pick. I think it would be way more exciting with the two d-town swings, but it’s not about that. Thorton was def snubbed. He gets no love…no love.

  • Ryne Nelson Posted: Jan.31 at 10:02 am
I wanted some great duel between Diddy and Paul last night. But all we got was Baron backing down Paul for the dishout to Al, Monta or Jax. Nothing highlight-worthy, but still…daggers.

  • Ryne Nelson Posted: Jan.31 at 10:04 am
Thorton’s dunk past Josh Smith > Parker’s three last night (well, sort of)

  • white hot eboy Posted: Jan.31 at 10:05 am
Just my two cents on Lebron, last season I said if he could somehow pick up his “killer instinct” factor and start closing out games on the regular, he would take that next step to be on Kobe’s plateu. The jumper would come in time, I told myself as most great wing players do, and you know what, dude is there. He’s not behind Kobe in the least, at least at this moment in time. Dude’s team is winning ballgames, he’s owning the court and he is now THAT guy. If he shares the plateu with 24, then so be it, but he’s not a rung below. Don’t let the love of the Mamba cloud the King’s place in the game.

  • TADOne Posted: Jan.31 at 10:05 am
Jared: Navarro hasn’t impressed me, and Conley was injured most of the season too. But it’s fine, not that worried about it.

  • Ryne Nelson Posted: Jan.31 at 10:06 am
Baron was getting boos, which was surprising…New Orleans actually has fans.

  • Jared Posted: Jan.31 at 10:08 am
Eboy, on the complete same page as you bro. Navarro’s been ballin hard TAD…Conley too. Stuck and Aaron don’t get the love tho cause they’re on that veteran team. Mainstream doesn’t really look past 1-6 on that team.

  • TADOne Posted: Jan.31 at 10:09 am
I’ll actually add something on Bron too. His first couple seasons in the league I absolutely hated his jumper. He had a hitch in his shot and just always seemed to fall back on his shot instead of keeping his legs and feet under him. But watching him last night in the 4th hitting all those 3′s was a sight. His jumper has straightened out and was silk last night in the closing quarter.

  • Ryne Nelson Posted: Jan.31 at 10:09 am
@tad – Navarro has been very good and very surprising. He looks and plays similar to a younger Calderon. The difference is he’s more of a pure shooter.

  • Keith Posted: Jan.31 at 10:10 am
Lebron is Jordan-esque when fans hassle him.

  • Jared Posted: Jan.31 at 10:11 am
I couldn’t believe his J was fallin like that in the 4th though. He’s a monster.

  • TADOne Posted: Jan.31 at 10:12 am
Well, I must admit, I haven’t seen Memphis play much.

  • Ryne Nelson Posted: Jan.31 at 10:14 am
You’re mising out on the worst white boy hair in the League, TAD. Miller’s Miller. Gasol and his dirty curls. And Navarro with his faux-hawk.

  • white hot eboy Posted: Jan.31 at 10:14 am
And I know that people will say “well he missed 5 games due to a hurt finger” and “where’s his rings at?”. Well, those things have relevance, but he also made the Finals in his 4th season, with a garbage team, and he is now the unatural force in the league that only a couple of other guys in the history of the game can claim. That “oh sh*t, did you see him last night”. In my lifetime I’ve heard that about 3 other players, Michael, Magic and Shaq all in their primes. Kobe to a lesser degree (the 81 point game was the watershed moment for him). But the other three, it was almost nightly. Shaq tearing down backboards, Michael gettign 55 in the Garden two weeks back from his first retirement, Magic running sh*t from the center spot to win his first title. These are minor examples of what these guys would do. Lebron is doing that nightly now. And that’s scary.

  • Jared Posted: Jan.31 at 10:15 am
He’s still only 23. Thats what’s even scarier.

  • white hot eboy Posted: Jan.31 at 10:17 am
    Yup.

  • Ryne Nelson Posted: Jan.31 at 10:17 am
How about the Jazz really stepping it up a notch recently? New York was an easy W, but ballin’ over the Spurs the night before and the Rox before that. They’re riding a six-game win streak into February. I’m already marking my calendar: Paul vs. Deron, Feb. 4, Worthy of Yours.

  • Ryne Nelson Posted: Jan.31 at 10:20 am
If LeBron played center for a night, I’d break down and consider him better than Mamba.

  • Jared Posted: Jan.31 at 10:20 am
Yea no doubt Ryne, I wasn’t trashing Deron the other day, I know he’s an incredible player, but yet again, he’s really doing it under the radar. If hes in the East he’s most likely an all-star.

  • Jared Posted: Jan.31 at 10:21 am
Bron was playin the 4 for a little bit last night, they had him on aldridge.

  • Jared Posted: Jan.31 at 10:21 am
    Any thoughts on CDR?

  • white hot eboy Posted: Jan.31 at 10:23 am
Rynocerous, if I see Kobe play the 5 and dominate, I’ll give him the same respect I give Lebron.

  • Keith Posted: Jan.31 at 10:24 am
Lebron James wouldn’t be the same player without his superhuman, freakish strength. He seems to be able to take the hard hits when driving to the rim and manages to finish.

  • white hot eboy Posted: Jan.31 at 10:24 am
How have we all not talked about the possible trade scenario for Jason Kidd that was discussed last night?

  • Ryne Nelson Posted: Jan.31 at 10:26 am
@Jared – You’re not talking about that cat on Memphis, are you?

  • Ryne Nelson Posted: Jan.31 at 10:27 am
@Eboy – because most of these rumors come and go within minutes. There’s so much to sort through, it’s endless.

  • Keith Posted: Jan.31 at 10:28 am
What was the Kidd related trade mentioned last night?

  • white hot eboy Posted: Jan.31 at 10:28 am
Well since you are a ESPN disciple, Rynocerous, you should be use to that then.

  • Holly MacKenzie Posted: Jan.31 at 10:28 am
if you are talking about the three-way with dallas and Portland… that is just crazy. If Portland messes with what they’ve got… for Devin Harris…….boooo to that.

  • Ryne Nelson Posted: Jan.31 at 10:30 am
I’ve yet to see the Tigers this season (’cause I don’t catch the NCAA), but I see CDR had a decent night 30 and 6 (turnovers)

  • TADOne Posted: Jan.31 at 10:30 am
Ok ya’ll, got some trivia: Without looking it up, who is #2 in 4th quarter scoring this season? Bron is #1.

  • white hot eboy Posted: Jan.31 at 10:30 am
And Rynocerous, upon further review, I believe I’m probably within 5 years of your fathers age, based upon you and your brothers names, so I look at you in the same vein as I do my own son, young man.

  • Ryne Nelson Posted: Jan.31 at 10:30 am
Hell no, that’s Henry Abott’s job! lol

  • Ryne Nelson Posted: Jan.31 at 10:31 am
    @Eboy taken as a compliment

  • TADOne Posted: Jan.31 at 10:31 am
Yeah, that 3 way trade they discussed is NOT happening. Portland has no need for another PG.

  • white hot eboy Posted: Jan.31 at 10:31 am
Yeah, Holly, that deal, it didn’t seem likely, but realy what is Portland losing, Jack and Frye and gaining Harris? That may not be so horrible for them.

  • Keith Posted: Jan.31 at 10:32 am
    Baron Davis Tad.

  • Ryne Nelson Posted: Jan.31 at 10:32 am
    @tad – Carmello?

  • Jared Posted: Jan.31 at 10:32 am
2 is Joe Johnson I think? either joe or kobe…and yea, chris douglas roberts, don’t know how i feel about him…i liked Carneys pro potential better but everyone loves this kid

  • TADOne Posted: Jan.31 at 10:32 am
Eboy: Outlaw was mentioned too. Again, not happening.

  • TADOne Posted: Jan.31 at 10:33 am
    No, no, and no.

  • Jared Posted: Jan.31 at 10:33 am
I don’t think it would be bad for Portland…Devin can play, take some pressure of Roy.

  • TADOne Posted: Jan.31 at 10:33 am
You’ll be surprised as I was when I heard. Want me to just say?

  • white hot eboy Posted: Jan.31 at 10:33 am
TAD, I wouldn’t be surprised either way, because I do think Kidd will be gone by the deadline.

  • Jared Posted: Jan.31 at 10:34 am
    d wade

  • Keith Posted: Jan.31 at 10:34 am
    Yao Ming, Tad.

  • TADOne Posted: Jan.31 at 10:34 am
Jared got it. That f*cking raised my eyebrows.

  • Ryne Nelson Posted: Jan.31 at 10:34 am
I like the deal for Portland, upon thinking harder about it. When you look down the line when it’s time to give big contracts, you might be to dissent among Outlaw, Frye and Jack. Heck, they probably will have to let some of them go because they won’t be able to pay them all. Plus, Portland literally will have 22 players on its roster if they don’t make a change come next year.

  • white hot eboy Posted: Jan.31 at 10:34 am
    Roy?

  • Ryne Nelson Posted: Jan.31 at 10:35 am
Plus, Devin’s just about the only PG in the League who’s young, a good citizen, talented, experienced, and not a Blazer.

  • Jared Posted: Jan.31 at 10:35 am
Martell Websters coming along well too…they have a lot of swingmen…damn, it’s good to see that they developed so quickly out in portland, good story. Hopefully they’ll be a dynasty.

  • TADOne Posted: Jan.31 at 10:35 am
I was trying to wrap my mind around Wade being #2 in 4th quarter scoring but the Heat being so bad.

  • white hot eboy Posted: Jan.31 at 10:35 am
Why so surprised at Wade? He’s the only one who can score for the Heat consistently, so why not?

  • Jared Posted: Jan.31 at 10:36 am
Yea Tad, i remember seeing that stat last night and being surprised that Dwyane was there…Kobe and Joe were 3 and 4…eh, the guy can score. He did win an nba championship by himself.

  • Ryne Nelson Posted: Jan.31 at 10:37 am
Wade’s the only option. I see it.

  • Keith Posted: Jan.31 at 10:37 am
Yao Ming? Is it Yao Ming? It’s Yao Ming isn’t it? I knew it was the Ming.

  • TADOne Posted: Jan.31 at 10:37 am
I know he can score, but 4th quarter stats like that usually equate to more wins, no?

  • TADOne Posted: Jan.31 at 10:37 am
    Keith: it’s D Wade.

  • Keith Posted: Jan.31 at 10:38 am
Don’t lie to me Tad. It’s Yao Ming.

  • TADOne Posted: Jan.31 at 10:39 am
Eboy, I just expected someone like KB, Baron, AI, or Melo would be all higher than him.

  • white hot eboy Posted: Jan.31 at 10:39 am
No TAD, when you are trailing by 10+ points every 4th quarter there’s a lot of points to be made up in their attempts at combebacks, which never happen.

  • Ryne Nelson Posted: Jan.31 at 10:41 am
I don’t know if you all heard the news, but I’m sort of pissed Joe Johnson’s going to be an All-Star this year. He definitely isn’t deserving over some other players. If Calderon doesn’t make it because of Joe….

  • Holly MacKenzie Posted: Jan.31 at 10:42 am
I want Jax. And, it was kind of alarming that I was agreeing with almost everything that was coming out of Bill Walton’s mouth at halftime.

  • white hot eboy Posted: Jan.31 at 10:42 am
It’s a numbers game, Rynocerous, and Calderon’s isn’t up yet.

  • Keith Posted: Jan.31 at 10:42 am
How and more importantly, where, did you find out that stat TADOne?

  • TADOne Posted: Jan.31 at 10:42 am
Makes sense Eboy, but I’m sure you wouldn’t have guessed his name first.

  • white hot eboy Posted: Jan.31 at 10:43 am
I think Baron might get the nod, Jax is doubtful, Holly, I would imagine. Now if Perfect Lashes could have somehow been featured at All Star Weekend somewhere……

  • white hot eboy Posted: Jan.31 at 10:44 am
I’m actually not surprised in the least, TAD. That has been his MO for the last three seasons when they were a good team, so just because they can’t win a game doesn’t change his role, just the outcome.

  • Slick Nick Da Ruler Posted: Jan.31 at 10:44 am
LeBron walked on his game winning drive. Donaghy lives

  • Ryne Nelson Posted: Jan.31 at 10:45 am
Steven’s very doubtful for the game because of the guard logjam in the west.

  • Jared Posted: Jan.31 at 10:45 am
Jose’s definitely getting slept on…he’s putting up a great season though…good to see.

  • TADOne Posted: Jan.31 at 10:46 am
Keith: they showed it during the Blazers/Cavs game last night.

  • white hot eboy Posted: Jan.31 at 10:46 am
I thought he did too, Nick as I watched it happen live, but after three replays I realized that he got the steps just right on his move. It was a great play.

  • TADOne Posted: Jan.31 at 10:47 am
Agreeing with Bill Walton might mean you need some sleep Holly.

  • TADOne Posted: Jan.31 at 10:48 am
Bron didn’t walk. He just takes some long strides. I saw the replay about 6 times.

  • Slick Nick Da Ruler Posted: Jan.31 at 10:49 am
Eboy, is there enough All Star love for Diddy and Roy? They both deserve it. If NO is the top seed, should Chandler or West be All Stars?

  • TADOne Posted: Jan.31 at 10:52 am
On a side note: How old is Outlaw? Didn’t he come straight out of highschool? He looks like he is 36. Dude has no hairline.

  • Ryne Nelson Posted: Jan.31 at 10:53 am
Yes, there’s space for Baron and Roy. They’ll be among the reserves list this evening without a doubt.

  • white hot eboy Posted: Jan.31 at 10:53 am
Baron and Brandon should each get a spot. Nash could too, but I think Diddy and Roy have been more “All-Star” this season to warrant the pick.

  • Ryne Nelson Posted: Jan.31 at 10:53 am
@tad – I think the blazers are the youngest oldest looking team

  • Keith Posted: Jan.31 at 10:54 am
You’re thinking of Bo Outlaw TADOne.

  • Ryne Nelson Posted: Jan.31 at 10:54 am
I’m just glad Tracy’s taking the game off to rest his back.

  • TADOne Posted: Jan.31 at 10:59 am
No, talking about Travis Outlaw. He looks old as hell.

  • Tarzan Cooper Posted: Jan.31 at 10:59 am
how would lebron perform against a defense from ten years ago when a defender could actually hand check, etc.?

  • Captain America Posted: Jan.31 at 11:04 am
TADOne, in Beasley “I Believe” He predicted a win and made one. Big Al’s line: 26 points, 20 boards. Ryan Gomes line: 25 points, 10 boards, 3 steals.

  • Captain America Posted: Jan.31 at 11:08 am
Mike Conley Jr injured? Damn, just damn.

  • TADOne Posted: Jan.31 at 11:08 am
    I didn’t realize Beasley’s J was so good.

  • Jared Posted: Jan.31 at 11:12 am
    Beasley’s well rounded

  • Russ Bengtson Posted: Jan.31 at 11:13 am
I’ve been up all night hitting myself in the head with a brick.

  • white hot eboy Posted: Jan.31 at 11:15 am
    Poor Russ.

  • TADOne Posted: Jan.31 at 11:16 am
Looks like you beat the brick.

  • Jared Posted: Jan.31 at 11:17 am
Damn Russ…why are you harping on it? Gotta look forward to the future…

  • Russ Bengtson Posted: Jan.31 at 11:19 am
F the future. What future? Ben Wallace for three more years? Woohoo, party.

  • white hot eboy Posted: Jan.31 at 11:20 am
    LOL @ Russ.

  • Russ Bengtson Posted: Jan.31 at 11:20 am
Like I said last night, they need to blow up the team and start over. And by “blow up the team” I mean they need to nuke the Berto Center while they’re at practice.

  • Captain America Posted: Jan.31 at 11:20 am
    Lefty J too.

  • Keith Posted: Jan.31 at 11:21 am
Paxson has to leave now. He makes the decision as to who they trade for and he decides who they sign to big, fat contracts. And let’s face it, they haven’t made any trades and have only signed underperforming, undersized centres to big contracts whilst neglecting to sign the onyl talent they actually have – Deng.

  • Russ Bengtson Posted: Jan.31 at 11:21 am
    P.S. LeBron is pretty good.

  • Kadavour Posted: Jan.31 at 11:22 am
i dunno Eboy, ur saying that you didn’t experience the “oh sh!t” when Kobe put up that streak of 50s, or when he scored 62 in 3qtrs, or when he hit 9 straight 3s in a game and broke the 3pt record? I feel like we’ve become numb to Kobe’s exploits. He’s done the back to back triple doubles and is capable of putting monster numbers. It’s just not a intrinsic to his game. He’s a pure scorer who can do everything else. LeBron is a super-athlete, his strongest suit being his dime-game, who can also do a bit of everything else. I’ll put Bron on Kobe’s plateau when he develops a consistent midrange. We’re getting glimpses of what could be right now, but the jumper isn’t quite there yet.

  • Russ Bengtson Posted: Jan.31 at 11:22 am
Paxson absolutely has to go, but I’m willing to wait a little longer. As long as he isn’t around for the draft.

  • Russ Bengtson Posted: Jan.31 at 11:24 am
The only thing Kobe does better than LeBron is defend and shoot threes. And both of those are closer than you think.

  • Keith Posted: Jan.31 at 11:25 am
Why leave Paxson haning around? The only possible thing he can do between now and the draft is make a trade. Is that something he should really be allowed to do? If he is definitely going before the draft, I don’t see his purpose in hanging around.

  • Russ Bengtson Posted: Jan.31 at 11:26 am
Fair point. I concede. Someone call Jerry Reinsdorf and get this over with.

  • Keith Posted: Jan.31 at 11:26 am
To contradict my above statement: keep Paxson in charge as he may well pull an ‘Ainge’ and make some blockbuster trades which make everyone forget just how incompetent he has previously been.

  • white hot eboy Posted: Jan.31 at 11:28 am
Lebron’s passing game is that much better than Kobe’s passing so I think that even’s them out. And yeah those games are nice that you mentioned, dead man, but while the records are nice and the numbers are crazy, Michael did all those same type of things before him, so it’s not new to me. No he didn’t score 81, no he didn’t score 62 after three quarters, but the points Michael scored in the time frame he played (let’s say 69 against a strong Cavs team) was probably equal to if not more than the 81 Kobe got in today’s no D league. And if I remember correctly, Toronto played NO D that night. But it was still incredible just the same.

  • Russ Bengtson Posted: Jan.31 at 11:30 am
LeBron’s game is so complete it’s disgusting.

  • TADOne Posted: Jan.31 at 11:30 am
    Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.

  • white hot eboy Posted: Jan.31 at 11:31 am
Can the Bulls somehow persuade him to come to the Windy City, Russ, when his contracts up?

  • TADOne Posted: Jan.31 at 11:32 am
Sur Eboy, whenever the schedule says they play the Bulls.

  • white hot eboy Posted: Jan.31 at 11:34 am
Well, I know for years there was talk of KG going to Chicago, then this summer, it seemed like Kobe would wind up there so who knows I wouldn’t be surprised if Wade wound up there at some point.

  • Bryan Posted: Jan.31 at 11:35 am
Morning, Lebron is a killer.I watched the second half.Ridiculous.

  • TADOne Posted: Jan.31 at 11:37 am
I guess anything is possible. But I would think if LeBron was going to leave for any bigger market, it would be NY.

  • white hot eboy Posted: Jan.31 at 11:37 am
Keep licking Kobe’s ba*s, Shia. Don’t try to jump on Lebrons train. There’s no room for you, Fu*er.

  • Holly MacKenzie Posted: Jan.31 at 11:38 am
redic for real, hey? the craziest part is we will be having this same conversation about Bron year after year because it just doesn’t get old.

  • Bryan Posted: Jan.31 at 11:39 am
I’d take Kobe over Lebron still Eboy don’t worry.

  • white hot eboy Posted: Jan.31 at 11:39 am
BTW, Shia, when is your retirement game, tonight? And I’m going to have to find out where you are in Panama City, because where going up there soon to visit my wife’s best friend and I will search your monkey ass out and get you on a basketball court for a quick beatdown then take you and your girl out for dinner.

  • white hot eboy Posted: Jan.31 at 11:43 am
    150

  • white hot eboy Posted: Jan.31 at 11:44 am
    *we’re

  • Kadavour Posted: Jan.31 at 11:45 am
LeBron isn’t close with his shooting. His percentages give a false representation of his stroke because most of those buckets come from those big-body layup and dunks. When Michael was putting up those crazy numbers he wasn’t doing it off shooting either. It was much like LeBron with his superior athleticism and getting to the paint. I think LeBron could easily get 60 in REGULATION if Danny Ainge, Freckles and The Bird were guarding him.. My point is that LeBron isn’t quite there yet. Prime example would be that White vs. Blue scrimmage. A

  • Bryan Posted: Jan.31 at 11:45 am
Yeah it’s tonight.Myspace when you are gonna be around and if I’m not working its a deal.

  • white hot eboy Posted: Jan.31 at 11:50 am
Kadavour, Dennis Johnson and Robert Parish were big time defenders on the Celtics squads and their team defense was excellent. Just because the highlights show a young Mike crossing Bird for a J doesn’t mean he wasn’t working hard to get his points throughout that game. I saw it live (not in person though) and I know he was putting out max effort every play.

  • Russ Bengtson Posted: Jan.31 at 11:52 am
I love that you can fault a 23-year old who’s averaging (essentially) 30, 7 and 7. He isn’t quite WHERE, exactly?

  • white hot eboy Posted: Jan.31 at 11:55 am
    Exactly.

  • Bryan Posted: Jan.31 at 11:56 am
On the other thread didn’t captain america say the cavs have to go deep in the playoffs before he gets respect?…sometimes the people who post here are ridiculous. I SWEAR Cap IS Charley Rosen, and Kadavour is Cap.

  • white hot eboy Posted: Jan.31 at 11:57 am
And the scrimmage example you use should be cancelled out by the ass kicking from this past weekend, Kadavour, in a game that actually mattered.

  • Co Co Posted: Jan.31 at 11:58 am
LeBron is playing the way everyone wanted him to play last season. The Cavs could come out of the East again just because he’s a one man wrecking crew. That’s sad…..

  • Keith Posted: Jan.31 at 11:59 am
Isn’t quite ‘where’ yet? Isn’t quite the best player to ever play basketball? Maybe not but he’s going to achieve it. So we all need to sit back, enjoy and appreciate that we are watching Lebron James grow into potentially the best player to date, who has played the game that we love.

  • white hot eboy Posted: Jan.31 at 11:59 am
Too bad the Heat and the Hawks won’t be there to watch, Co Co.

  • Jared Posted: Jan.31 at 11:59 am
I dont get it…whats he gotta do?

  • Bryan Posted: Jan.31 at 11:59 am
How crazy would it be if Lebron dropped 65 against the Celtics before being eliminated by them, and KG say’s that’s Micheal Jordan disguised as Lebron James.

  • Kadavour Posted: Jan.31 at 12:01 pm
Hoopsencylopedia has a video of that game. check it out and tell me how many jumpers Mike hit. Now compare blueprint to how LeBron gets his buckets and you will see AMAZING similarities in the way they attack the paint. Not in the actual move per se, but just the percentage of shots/compared to layups and dunks attempted. It’s pretty reasonable to argue that LeBron body would serve him well in any endeavour toward the paint. 60 EASILY. That performance was all about one work-horse on the court exercising his will over his lesser equipped (athletically) opponent

  • Jared Posted: Jan.31 at 12:02 pm
So we’re comparing LeBrons game to MJs game, and saying LeBron isn’t great? WHAT?

  • Keith Posted: Jan.31 at 12:02 pm
    What’s your point again Kadavour?

  • Bryan Posted: Jan.31 at 12:03 pm
    Rosen in the house..

  • Co Co Posted: Jan.31 at 12:03 pm
    Dammit Eboy.

  • white hot eboy Posted: Jan.31 at 12:03 pm
All I know, it is refreshing to watch a dominate player who DOESN’T mimic the “greatest player off all time”. Lebron is Lebron, a mix of Michael, Magic and Charles like someone said a couple of days ago. There’s no copying of mannerisms and movements, so he’s his own entity which is great.

  • TADOne Posted: Jan.31 at 12:05 pm
Even the mouthpiece is his own. Disgusting, but his own.

  • Kadavour Posted: Jan.31 at 12:06 pm
whoa, i’m not bashing LeBron. as a point guard there’s nothing I appreciate more than court vision and a MEAN dime-game. But as a point, you just have to respect a dude who can score in ANY situation. LeBron is almost there. If anyone in the league is there, i’d say its Kobe. that’s all my argument is about. LeBron is not quite on Kobe’s level. He’s pretty damn close though.

  • white hot eboy Posted: Jan.31 at 12:08 pm
Kadavour, I already mentioned that Mike’s jumper didn’t become deadly until he was around 27 or 28, so I don’t get the example.

  • TADOne Posted: Jan.31 at 12:08 pm
It’s cool Kadavour, Bron/Kobe talk gets these folks fored up.

  • TADOne Posted: Jan.31 at 12:08 pm
    *fired

  • white hot eboy Posted: Jan.31 at 12:09 pm
What situation then, can’t Lebron score in?

  • white hot eboy Posted: Jan.31 at 12:11 pm
And if his mid-range game is his weakness, name 10 other players at his position who’s mid-range game is decidedly better. That would be a good starting point, no?

  • Kadavour Posted: Jan.31 at 12:12 pm
In a situation where he’s forced to 1) score above double teams from mid-range and beyond, and his catch and shoot is still suspect

  • Keith Posted: Jan.31 at 12:13 pm
Kadavour…who would you rather have in a close game? Kobe or Lebron?

  • Bryan Posted: Jan.31 at 12:14 pm
    Kobe.

  • Russ Bengtson Posted: Jan.31 at 12:14 pm
30, 7 and 7. Faulting LeBron for his shot now is like people faulting Shaq in ’00 because “all he does is dunk.”

  • Russ Bengtson Posted: Jan.31 at 12:16 pm
He’s twenty-three years old. If he was perfect now, what would be the fun of watching him for the rest of his career? LeBron shouldn’t even be at his peak for another four, five years.

  • Kadavour Posted: Jan.31 at 12:16 pm
Melo, Luol, Josh Howard, Jefferson, Hedo, Peja…i’m sure others on these boards can name a bunch of other such shooters at the 3 spot

  • Bryan Posted: Jan.31 at 12:16 pm
I think people can all agree Kobe is a more complete scorer than Lebron , but that’s not because Lebron isn’t a great scorer, he’s a little more streaky than Kobe but I think his outside is no longer suspect.

  • H to the izzo Posted: Jan.31 at 12:16 pm
OFF TOPIC:I’m going to see Eric Muthaf*ckin Clapton Muthaf*ckers.

  • Bryan Posted: Jan.31 at 12:16 pm
    outside shot*

  • Kadavour Posted: Jan.31 at 12:17 pm
Keith: Kobe. I’d even take Dwayne Wade down the stretch. They both have superior mid-range and can get to the rim

  • Keith Posted: Jan.31 at 12:17 pm
Am I the only one who likes Kadavour for forcing us to re-evaluate just how much we love ‘Bron? Dude simply has a conflicting opinion but as we all have said..that’s what we love about this board. The only things we don’t like are: Tarzan, Captain America and racism.

  • white hot eboy Posted: Jan.31 at 12:17 pm
Catch and shoot type players are normally reserved for lanky swingman or small guards. That is not in Lebron’s game, and very rarely in Kobe’s. Kobe is a dribble set up man who works off of picks for his jumper. Reggie was the perfect example of a catch and shoot type player because his dribble game was suspect, so I don’t think that applies in this comparison, Kadavour.

  • Kadavour Posted: Jan.31 at 12:18 pm
29% is a bit suspect Shia

  • DP Posted: Jan.31 at 12:18 pm
Kobe in a close game hands down because he has a killer instinct. Lebron is getting there but he is still in pampers right now when it comes to that aspect of the game. play wit it.

  • Russ Bengtson Posted: Jan.31 at 12:19 pm
Richard Jefferson? Seriously? Richard freaking Jefferson?

  • Jared Posted: Jan.31 at 12:19 pm
thats dope izzo, i dont know, bron just continues to amaze and do things you didn’t think he could. i was amazed that he was knockin down those treys last night…he’s here

  • white hot eboy Posted: Jan.31 at 12:20 pm
KAdavour, I said TEN players, not seven and if you think Josh Howard is in that class, you just made my argument for me.

  • white hot eboy Posted: Jan.31 at 12:20 pm
And D-Wade does not play SF.

  • TADOne Posted: Jan.31 at 12:20 pm
I don’t think anyone is arguing that Bron needs to hone some stuff in his game, I think that to pick apart a persons game at 23 is nitpicking some.

  • H to the izzo Posted: Jan.31 at 12:20 pm
Richard Jefferson is having possibly the most phantom 23ppg season ever.

  • Kadavour Posted: Jan.31 at 12:21 pm
Reggie was the ultimate catch and shoot guard. But i just named 6 forwards who routinely come off screens to catch and shoot. As point guard, you definitely trust that ability above others. And there was a point in last season where the ran some catch and shoot plays for Kobe off screens right out of time outs. They’ve now substituted it for that back screen alley-oop out of the time out. And that’s the beauty of Kobe’s game, you can call just about any play for him.

  • Russ Bengtson Posted: Jan.31 at 12:21 pm
I’m leaning towards taking LeBron every time after his finish against the Lakers and the way he closed out the game last night. Actually, after the way he killed the Pistons in the playoffs. Who cares about his midrange game when no one alive can keep him from getting to the rim whenever he wants? If he had a money mid-range game, he’d already be the greatest basketball player who ever lived and we’d have nothing more to discuss.

  • white hot eboy Posted: Jan.31 at 12:21 pm
Can anyone name a close game situation Kobe has won for the Lakers this year? I have 4 in my mind for Lebron as I type. It is about now, fellas, not last year or 5 years ago.

  • Bryan Posted: Jan.31 at 12:21 pm
It’s the streakiness, Reggie Miller shot 32 percent his final season , Allan Houston shot 29 percent his rookie year it happens. No I’m not saying Lebron is a shooter of their class , but he takes a lot of shots he might start 0-5 then hit 3 out of his next 5 and finish at 30% for the game.

  • TADOne Posted: Jan.31 at 12:22 pm
I didn’t think it was possible not to enjoy a team with Kidd on it, but the Nets are just that unwatchable to me.

  • Kadavour Posted: Jan.31 at 12:23 pm
woah, i didn’t say Josh is in that class or any of the others. You asked for forwards with mid-range that definitely better than Brons. I hate to be a nitpicker just to make a point. LeBron is DEFINITELY one of my favorite players. He’s just not on that Kobe plateau

  • Russ Bengtson Posted: Jan.31 at 12:23 pm
Lebron doesn’t need screens. He’s 6-8, 250 (maybe 260) and moves like a freakin’ point guard. Reggie Miller had to come off screens because he was built like an anorexic praying mantis.

  • Bryan Posted: Jan.31 at 12:23 pm
Izzo, almost as suspect as the 21 Vince is putting up.

  • H to the izzo Posted: Jan.31 at 12:23 pm
How Lawrence Frank is coaching a grown up mens team is beyond me.

  • white hot eboy Posted: Jan.31 at 12:25 pm
I wish someone could dig up this stat, but I’m curious between Kobe and Lebron, who has made the most game winning/game-tying shots in the last 4 1/2 season since Lebron came into the league. I think we’d be all surprised at the results.

  • DP Posted: Jan.31 at 12:25 pm
josh boone is the sh*t. play wit it.

  • Russ Bengtson Posted: Jan.31 at 12:25 pm
If I had to pick between Kobe and LeBron right this very instant, I’d have to think about it for a while. That says a lot, given how young LeBron is.

  • namik Posted: Jan.31 at 12:25 pm
I was at the game. Now I’ve seen LeBron’s first ever triple double and one of his dopest games and he is unbelievable in person. He is huge and moves faster than Roy whenever he wants to. Plus his passes are lightining quick and his hops aren’t bad either. Yeah, it’s harder not to buy into the hype with every game but I got to stay with my Laker love…

  • TADOne Posted: Jan.31 at 12:25 pm
Remember back when people was saying that the genius of Byron Scott’s coaching was Lawrence Frank? Um, not so much.

  • H to the izzo Posted: Jan.31 at 12:27 pm
I’d still pick Kobe now but LeBron is making the decision nearly impossible

  • Russ Bengtson Posted: Jan.31 at 12:27 pm
I blame Frank to an extent, but Jason Kidd stopped caring in November and Vince Carter stopped caring in, um, 2002. It is, however, Frank’s fault that Jason Collins has started something like 22 games this year. That’s just unbelievable.

  • white hot eboy Posted: Jan.31 at 12:27 pm
And to be fair, Michael wasn’t a fantastic three point shooter but he didn’t need it too dominate and he was just as complete as Kobe in his offensive game, so let’s be realistic, Kadavour. You don’t need to make every play in basketball to be considered unstoppable. If I score 45 on drives and dunks on you score 45 on threes and mid-range jumpers, who’s better really?.

  • Kadavour Posted: Jan.31 at 12:28 pm
Kobe’s is second all time with game winners. I believe he’s 3-6 game winners behind Jordan. Looking it up now. i know this because it came up in an argument earlier this year.

  • TADOne Posted: Jan.31 at 12:29 pm
    Chris Paul!

  • Jared Posted: Jan.31 at 12:29 pm
Brons hops aren’t bad? That’s like saying megan fox isn’t ugly.

  • Russ Bengtson Posted: Jan.31 at 12:32 pm
Aren’t game-winning shots a pointless stat anyway? For starters, you need to be involved in enough close games. And of course Jordan and Kobe are going to be way up there, because they’ve taken so damn many. LeBron’ll be up there, too. Field goal percentage in the last two minutes of games decided by five points or less would be way more telling (when combined with number of shots taken in that situation). And good luck finding that.

  • white hot eboy Posted: Jan.31 at 12:32 pm
Kadavour, is that 3 to 6 or 36? And that doesn’t answer my question.

  • Russ Bengtson Posted: Jan.31 at 12:32 pm
Jamal Crawford has hit a whole mess of game-winners. Should he be in the best player alive discussion?

  • white hot eboy Posted: Jan.31 at 12:33 pm
Russ, it was just an aside to the “Kobe is more clutch at the end of games” statement.

  • namik Posted: Jan.31 at 12:33 pm
Sarcasm anyone? Jared? And didnt LeBron hit 3 straight 3s last night to bring them back? I’m not sure, I was drunk…

  • Bryan Posted: Jan.31 at 12:33 pm
    Hedo.

  • Russ Bengtson Posted: Jan.31 at 12:34 pm
i’m just saying that “game-winning shots” taken by themselves are a pretty pointless stat.

  • TADOne Posted: Jan.31 at 12:35 pm
Bron did do that. Seriously ya’ll, are we going to be debating this all day again today?

  • Kadavour Posted: Jan.31 at 12:35 pm
3-6 sorry. going through threads right now

  • white hot eboy Posted: Jan.31 at 12:35 pm
    Agreed.

  • Co Co Posted: Jan.31 at 12:36 pm
And uncontested game winning layups dont count……

  • Jared Posted: Jan.31 at 12:37 pm
my bad dude…i wasn’t sure if u were bashing bron too…i’m shocked at the hate…i don’t see how someone can put a team on his back, do it all, and be clutch as sh!t…and be 23…and not be the best player in the game.

  • namik Posted: Jan.31 at 12:38 pm
Thats what the hell I thought. And Kobe’s 40 ppg spree is just around the corner. It’s february.

  • namik Posted: Jan.31 at 12:40 pm
Jared because Chris Paul, Kevin Garnett and Kobe Bryant play in the L too. But yes, if his team wins 50 games, I would give it to him or Paul(if he wins 50 games too). Giving it to someone who has the best team already makes no sense to me.

  • H to the izzo Posted: Jan.31 at 12:41 pm
And can we please talk about Kansas losing, that was sweet.

  • Jared Posted: Jan.31 at 12:44 pm
word up Izzo…I don’t think we’re talking about MVP though namik, we’re talking about the best. To me it’s like an Arod conversation, Bron is just that much better than everyone else. That’s just my opinion though, and I think a lot of people agree.

  • DP Posted: Jan.31 at 12:46 pm
Bron the best all around player no doubt. but he needs some freakin help. play wit it.

  • namik Posted: Jan.31 at 12:54 pm
Jared I already provided my thoughts on this last week and it makes no sense to get into that all over again. But Kobe did this 2 years ago to a higher degree and people who didnt like him called him selfish and self-centered while others agreed that he was the best in the game. Did it last year too and still got hated on. So it shouldnt be too hard to believe that LeBron doesnt inspire unanimous love.

  • Ryne Nelson Posted: Jan.31 at 12:57 pm
    @Namik – Amen, end Kobe/Bron topic please

  • Jared Posted: Jan.31 at 12:59 pm
    I feel you.

  • TADOne Posted: Jan.31 at 1:00 pm
No player should inspire unanimous love. People love KB for what he does, others love LeBron for what he does. I’m a basketball fan period. I give props where props are do. I don’t like KB the man, but I will not diminish his skills. I can pick apart LeBron’s jumper and D, but what’s the point? He is 23. They are both great players in their own right.

  • white hot eboy Posted: Jan.31 at 1:08 pm
And I imagine that Holly’s lack of comments means she is scouring every weather website know to man and is currently thumbing through the Famrers Almanac to get a grip on the weather for the Lakers/Raptors game. That or she is assembling a team of sled dogs to get her to the arena.

  • TADOne Posted: Jan.31 at 1:11 pm
She is probably taking an earlier flight.

  • Jared Posted: Jan.31 at 1:11 pm
    could you imagine the latter?

  • Kadavour Posted: Jan.31 at 1:12 pm
Jordan has 33 over his career and Kobe has 24 as of the end of the 05 to 06 season. There were 2 last season, but i can’t find a reliable source for those and Kobe hit one this year against Seattle on 1/14/08. That would put Kobe at 27, but i can only find a source for 24 of them. http://www.dolem.com/kobe_winners.htm http://www.nba.com/jordan/game_winners.html

  • Ryne Nelson Posted: Jan.31 at 1:12 pm
@Eboy – Haha! You know you’d be doing the same.

  • Kadavour Posted: Jan.31 at 1:14 pm
i found the game-winners info with cited sources. They’re awaiting moderation. Jordan has 33. Kobe has 27

  • white hot eboy Posted: Jan.31 at 1:14 pm
I wouldn’t put the sled dog thing past her crazy ass.

  • white hot eboy Posted: Jan.31 at 1:44 pm
I thought the game is tomorrow?

  • Russ Bengtson Posted: Jan.31 at 1:45 pm
Can we talk more about Washington and Milwaukee losing by a combined 82 points?

  • Russ Bengtson Posted: Jan.31 at 1:47 pm
The League needs to do some re-aligning. Dump the Bucks in the West, put the Hornets in the East. Work on this whole imbalance thing.

  • Ryne Nelson Posted: Jan.31 at 1:47 pm
I still have five seasons to catch up on with the Wire. I’ll get back at you soon, riggs.

  • Bryan Posted: Jan.31 at 1:53 pm
I wish the playoffs were just the top 16 teams regardless of conference. Division Winners all go , Conference champs get the top 2 seeds and then everyone else is set by record.

  • Russ Bengtson Posted: Jan.31 at 1:57 pm
I was gonna say, given modern air travel and such, they should just scrap the whole East/West thing entirely, except where it comes to schedule making. And even then sometimes it doesn’t make sense. The Hawks and the Mavericks (for instance) are closer geographically than the Heat and the Celtics. The Bucks are closer to the Wolves than they are to any team on the East Coast.

  • Jared Posted: Jan.31 at 1:57 pm
Bryan thats not a bad idea

  • Russ Bengtson Posted: Jan.31 at 2:00 pm
The Spurs are closer to the Magic than they are to the Blazers or Sonics. So many meaningless dividing lines.

  • Bryan Posted: Jan.31 at 2:01 pm
They can leave the conferences just for the sake of the schedulemakers to keep doing it they way they have been, I just think of the playoffs and how right now , there are 10 teams in the West over .500 and only 6 in the East which is perfect for the sixteen.

  • Russ Bengtson Posted: Jan.31 at 2:03 pm
No one under .500 should make the playoffs anyway, that should be a definite cutoff no matter what. Even if it means a top seed getting a bye.

  • Russ Bengtson Posted: Jan.31 at 2:03 pm
Although it would be quite inconvenient for all involved if there were ever a first-round series between Miami and Portland.

  • Bryan Posted: Jan.31 at 2:03 pm
There are only four teams in the western conference with worse records than the 7th and 8th seed in the east. How do they not fix this? I love Josh Smith and the Hawks , but do they deserve the reward of the postseason more than Portland and Houston? Or even Sacremento? Jersey DEFINITELY doesn’t deserve to be there, hell they don’t even want to show up for the regular season.

  • Russ Bengtson Posted: Jan.31 at 2:05 pm
Unless you want to start talking about neutral sites, which I think they SHOULD do, at least for the opening game of the NBA Finals. Then split the rest 3 and 3. Or do the opening two games and have the rest 3/2 so someone still has home court.

  • Bryan Posted: Jan.31 at 2:07 pm
Neutral sites for the finals is a good idea , it works for the superbowl.

  • Russ Bengtson Posted: Jan.31 at 2:09 pm
At least that way you don’t have everyone scrambling for hotel rooms and flights at the last minute.

  • Ryne Nelson Posted: Jan.31 at 2:10 pm
I’d be a strong opponent to this playoff system. One of the League’s main identities is the East/West division. It’s the subject of most comparisions and power ranking debates. I guess it needs to be spoken about because it’s inherently part of the system. But somehow, having divisional and conference allegiances makes for better fanhood.

  • Russ Bengtson Posted: Jan.31 at 2:11 pm
If you were going to seed regardless of conference, I think you’d have to go back to the 2-3-2 format. I’d also support them going back to a five-game first round.

  • Michael Posted: Jan.31 at 2:12 pm
I hate saying it But Lebron is officially the best player in the game. He still isn’t as skilled as Kobe, but his size and speed make him more effective. He doesn’t have to rely on jump shots, he can just drive to the basket on every freaking posession.

  • Ryne Nelson Posted: Jan.31 at 2:13 pm
As far as the argument that there are “more deserving” teams in one conference…such is life. Time works its magic over the years. And when the powers move back to the other coast (as they surely will), those teams undeserving will be in the West.

  • Bryan Posted: Jan.31 at 2:13 pm
Divisions are fine , that’s why you take the winner of each division. But it doesn’t help the fans to watch Boston crush the Nets or Hawks at all. No one wants to watch VC mail it in , Jkidd pout and (as covered yesterday) Paul Pierce spend more time doing push ups than playing basketball.

  • Russ Bengtson Posted: Jan.31 at 2:13 pm
Better fanhood? Really? It’s not like the Eastern and Western teams don’t face off all year round. And wouldn’t you rather see the two best teams in the League start off in opposite playoff brackets rather than facing each other in the Conference Semis? Power ranking debates suck anyway.

  • Russ Bengtson Posted: Jan.31 at 2:14 pm
Ryne: The whole point would be to keep said undeserving teams–whether they’re from the East or West–out of the playoff picture entirely.

  • Russ Bengtson Posted: Jan.31 at 2:15 pm
That way you wouldn’t have teams like the Knicks and Sixers saying ‘hey, we’re only five games out of the eight seed!’

  • Russ Bengtson Posted: Jan.31 at 2:18 pm
There should be exceptions in the regular-season schedule to foster geographic rivalries as well. Why should the Hawks only play the Hornets twice a year? Why should the Lakers and Clippers only play each other four times? Those numbers should go to four and six, respectively. And if some teams don’t face each other at all one season, that just makes their next matchup more important and TiVo worthy.

  • Russ Bengtson Posted: Jan.31 at 2:18 pm
OK, I’ll stop talking to myself now.

  • Bryan Posted: Jan.31 at 2:19 pm
All I know is that Portland deserves a spot more than a team who doesn’t want to be there(The Nets). The Hawks I can live with, they aren’t top tier yet but they’re hungry they want to win , the Nets epitomize what people dislike about sports, they quit and they just want to collect checks.

  • Russ Bengtson Posted: Jan.31 at 2:20 pm
They should have the fans vote in the top four seeds in each conference.

  • Ryne Nelson Posted: Jan.31 at 2:22 pm
Quickly, “Undeserving” is a subjective term. Not many would say the Warriors were “deserving.” Keep it as is, we’re trying to make a good system perfect. And look what happened with the BCS, when they tried to get the most deserving teams in the championship game. Too much subjectivity. That’s the beauty of it all: anything can happen in the playoffs.

  • Bryan Posted: Jan.31 at 2:23 pm
There is no subjectiveness about a team 8 games under .500 getting in when a team 8 games over .500 sits at home.

  • Michael Posted: Jan.31 at 2:25 pm
I’ll say this about Lebron though, if the cav’s don’t win 50 games he better not when MVP. Cause all i heard 2 years ago was Kobe couldn’t win becasue they didn’t win enough, never mind the fact that he litteraly won 45 games by himself.

  • Bryan Posted: Jan.31 at 2:26 pm
Put Dallas and New Orleans in the east this year and Milwaukee and Indiana in the west, and drop everyone in the east two seeds.

  • Bryan Posted: Jan.31 at 2:46 pm
Jared but how many under .500 teams make it to the playoffs? Ask any coach and they say a truly successful season is winning 48-50 games, in the east they barely win 40.

  • Russ Bengtson Posted: Jan.31 at 2:47 pm
It’s easy for the East to win a championship when they only have to beat a bunch of fake-ass playoff teams to get to the Finals while the West fights a brutal war of attrition. Let’s say the Nets get into the playoffs at 38-44, and somehow manage to win the whole thing. Doesn’t that mean the whole system is flawed?

  • TADOne Posted: Jan.31 at 2:48 pm
Yes is does Russ. It’s also why I love the Pistons chances.

  • white hot eboy Posted: Jan.31 at 2:48 pm
Not really, because they still have to beat the best of the West 4 times, which is no small feat.

  • white hot eboy Posted: Jan.31 at 2:50 pm
If it was a “one and done” system than yeah, it would be flawed.

  • Bryan Posted: Jan.31 at 2:50 pm
If Boston runs over everyone and get to the finals and face off against a west team who had to face the the Warriors , Spurs and Hornets and will be incredibly worn out. By the time they reach the finals they will be exhausted where Boston can beat them based on their lack of fatigue alone.

  • Jared Posted: Jan.31 at 2:56 pm
I don’t know, i see the argument, and I definitely think it holds validity, but like, that’s the way it’s been forever. The Truly great teams win, I’m sorry eboy but I think a lot of people think Miami’s championship in 05 was tainted, just like Cleveland’s run last year, but that’s the evolution of the game. Miami’s ring is better remembered for D-Wade going to the line a billion times and Dirk choking, than the best team winning.

  • BETCATS Posted: Jan.31 at 2:58 pm
it will be Orlando CHA no Boston Detroit

  • white hot eboy Posted: Jan.31 at 3:03 pm
That’s true, Jared, but doesn’t change the argument that teams are all worn down after playing for 6 months reagrdless of matchups in the last week of the season. And to everyone who hated on the Heat’s title, two things, we saw the Mavs as perenial chokers last season, so it was more that than Wade’s free throws that beat those weak minded bitc*es, and two, fu*k everyone anyways. If karma is kicking our asses this year, then you can all kiss my whole a*s next year when he sit tight with the first pick and a brighter future.

  • BETCATS Posted: Jan.31 at 3:03 pm

  • Russ Bengtson Posted: Jan.31 at 3:03 pm

  • BETCATS Posted: Jan.31 at 3:04 pm
miami heat = bust – wade

  • BETCATS Posted: Jan.31 at 3:06 pm

  • Jared Posted: Jan.31 at 3:06 pm
No hate at all, I’m jealous of the position your heat are in eboy. I don’t know, I was a big d-wade fan until those playoffs, and i know its not on him, it was just wack that the refs absolutely dictated those finals. And I agree on the fatigue point, everyone plays 82 games, people claim the Spurs just coast through the regular season and turn it on in the Finals…then I guess every other team should be taking notes.

  • Russ Bengtson Posted: Jan.31 at 3:06 pm
It’s going to be really fun watching Eastern Conference teams tank over the last month in order to NOT get the seven or eight seed. I can hardly wait! The Bulls may as well just put JamesOn Curry in the starting lineup now.

  • Bryan Posted: Jan.31 at 3:07 pm
I’m not saying its an excuse but one team shouldn’t have a much easier road. The disparity is too great. Any of the top ten teams in the West would be Legit Finals picks in the East, where as the only teams in the east right now who anyone can agree are legit picks are Detroit and Boston. Cleavland but that’s only because they have that one transcendent player who can carry them and because he did it last year. Other wise we would only be talking about Detroit and Boston. And of those teams the only team I think has actual championship ability is Boston, since I discussed my feelings on Detroit yesterday I won’t rehash them.

  • Russ Bengtson Posted: Jan.31 at 3:08 pm
Actually, the Bulls should trade for Kwame Brown and start him at the two.

    1. Phoenix
    2. New Orleans
    3. Utah
    4. Dallas
    5. Lakers
    6. San Antonio
    7. Denver
    8. Golden State On the outside looking in would be Portland, at 26-19.

  • TADOne Posted: Jan.31 at 3:21 pm

What I meant is that if you took the teams with the 16 best records regardless of conference, and seeded them 1 through 16, and had 1 play 16, the difference in their records would be less than it is between the 1 seed and the 8 seed in the East given the current format. Because 1 vs. 16 would be someething like Boston v. Washington rather than Boston v. Jersey. Capisce?

    16. Washington

  • white hot eboy Posted: Jan.31 at 3:48 pm
I remember back in the day, all my buddies thought eating Smarties candies made you smarter. I wish I was still 10 sometimes.

  • white hot eboy Posted: Jan.31 at 3:49 pm
The 8-9, 4-13 matchups are intriguing.

  • Russ Bengtson Posted: Jan.31 at 3:51 pm
    Some good first-round series would happen there. Boston/Washington, Phoenix/Houston, Detroit/Toronto, New Orleans/Cleveland, Utah/Portland, Orlando/Golden State, Dallas/Denver, Spurs/Lakers. With the possibility of a second-round matchup of Boston/L.A.?

  • Russ Bengtson Posted: Jan.31 at 3:52 pm
    Second-round possibilities would include Boston/L.A. and Phoenix/Dallas.

  • Russ Bengtson Posted: Jan.31 at 3:55 pm
And Cleveland/Utah, for Bron vs. Cbooz fun.

  • TADOne Posted: Jan.31 at 3:55 pm
So a free-for-all, regardless of conference? It would certainly be some good games.

  • Russ Bengtson Posted: Jan.31 at 3:59 pm
Free-for-all, yes. But decided objectively by record, assuring that the best teams in the League get in. Sure you’d have some weird matchups from a regional perspective, but you’d also make sure every team had a similar road, and it would be more likely that the two best teams faced off in the end.

  • TADOne Posted: Jan.31 at 4:01 pm
I’d certainly be with it. Sternbot, not so much.

  • Jared Posted: Jan.31 at 4:01 pm
But i think part of the thing that makes the Finals that much more exciting is that it’s teams that haven’t played each other a billion times. I don’t wanna watch Suns Mavs in the finals (ok I do), it’s not really that exciting after you get it for free 10 times in the regular season.

  • Russ Bengtson Posted: Jan.31 at 4:01 pm
Holly’s missing out on a somewhat interesting topic because she’s out shopping for Malamutes.

  • TADOne Posted: Jan.31 at 4:02 pm
Russ, who are you guys sending to the All Star game this year?

  • Jared Posted: Jan.31 at 4:02 pm
But on the flip, it’s better than a completely undermatched East team vs a western powerhouse…it is what it is

  • TADOne Posted: Jan.31 at 4:03 pm
    And ski shoes.

  • Holly MacKenzie Posted: Jan.31 at 4:03 pm
ohhh man.. I’ve been out trying to work off some nervous energy…What do you think guys.. Should I wait around for a bit and then switch my flight weather stuff gets bad? I’m flying out early am tomorrow, but I could switch it until later tonight….damnnnnn I am a ball of stress.

  • Russ Bengtson Posted: Jan.31 at 4:04 pm
That’s an subjective point of view, Jared. Something like a championship should be detwermined as objectively as possible. If that means Dallas v. Phoenix or Detroit v. Boston in the NBA Finals, so be it. Back in the Chamberlain/Russell days, you know how many times the Celtics used to play the Warriors in the regular season before they met in the Finals? Me neither, but it was a lot.

  • TADOne Posted: Jan.31 at 4:04 pm
If you have somewhere to stay tonight, I would consider flying early in all seriousness.

  • Russ Bengtson Posted: Jan.31 at 4:05 pm
How bad is the weather now?

  • Holly MacKenzie Posted: Jan.31 at 4:06 pm
malamutes! haha I was out getting my hair cut and trying to calm the eff down. Tad, I’m looking at schedules now. How is the weather in Detroit?

  • TADOne Posted: Jan.31 at 4:07 pm
The weather is fine now. It is supposed to start snowing late tonight and be real bad in the early AM I’m told.

  • Russ Bengtson Posted: Jan.31 at 4:09 pm
Not to mention, in the 16 system, the East or West would still be able to claim dominance based on who won. But the stronger conference would have a greater chance of winning the championship, since they’d have more teams in the playoffs. And the lottery would actually be more fair as well. Isn’t it just a tad ridiculous the way it is now where the .578 Blazers would get a shot at the No. 1 pick while the .422 Nets wouldn’t? Who needs that pick more?

  • Holly MacKenzie Posted: Jan.31 at 4:09 pm
its beautiful out, Russ. But we don’t have a weather warning.. yepp.. just checked the toronto forecast and they are saying 25-30 cm of snow from tonight until tomorrow afternoon. I’m looking at flights now. DAMN.

  • Russ Bengtson Posted: Jan.31 at 4:10 pm
As usual, I should have made this a separate column instead of wasting it (no offense, Holly) in here.

  • Myles Brown Posted: Jan.31 at 4:10 pm
Russ said “an subjective…” He aint so smart…

  • white hot eboy Posted: Jan.31 at 4:11 pm
Holly, there is the malamutes/dogsled idea, just for the sake of safety.

  • TADOne Posted: Jan.31 at 4:13 pm
Do you have to pay more to take an earlier flight?

  • Russ Bengtson Posted: Jan.31 at 4:13 pm
Whaddya expect from a Bulls fan, Myles? I had subjective and objective flipped around initially, forgot to delete the extraneous N. Whoops.

  • Jared Posted: Jan.31 at 4:15 pm
Yea Russ, my bad about being subjective in an opinion-based thread. You’re right though, it should, but then maybe the NBA should do alignment like the NFL or MLB, they have enough teams. I think realignment is a much more realistic approach than keeping the conferences and just switching the playoff format.

  • Myles Brown Posted: Jan.31 at 4:19 pm
Ben got completely f*ckin owned last night. It looked to me like he stopped trying in the third quarter. Watched the game with Aschburner. He asked Al afterwards about it and Al had nothing but high praise for Ben and his ability to “know his role”. “How many guys you know get paid $60 mil to play defense?” I couldnt help but mumble that Ben doesnt play defense anymore. Youd think he was the one with 26 & 20, not 5 & 8…

  • Russ Bengtson Posted: Jan.31 at 4:19 pm
I just meant being subjective in the sense that you may not WANT to see a Phoenix/Dallas final, but if those happened to be the two best teams, isn’t that what it should be? Did anyone think Utah/San Antonio was a bigger series than San Antonio/Phoenix last year? I think people would have been psyched if San Antonio/Phoenix met in the NBA Finals last year, even if they do play each other four times a year. I have no objection to your disagreeing with the format, but I don’t think ‘we’ve seen them play each other so many times already’ is a valid reason. Sorry.

  • Holly MacKenzie Posted: Jan.31 at 4:21 pm
there isn’t another flight i can take… there is one in less than two hours, but I wouldn’t make it on time. Oh sweet Lord. I do NOT feel good about this. At all.

  • Holly MacKenzie Posted: Jan.31 at 4:22 pm
no offense taken, Russ. the east/west thing is pissing me off too.

  • Russ Bengtson Posted: Jan.31 at 4:22 pm
Realignment is hard because the balance of power does tend to shift. That’s why I think it’s best to continue scheduling based on East/West or whatever (or even make it more balanced, actually), and seed the playoffs strictly by record, regardless of conference. Giving the division winners the top six spots is fine, but I’d even be down to do away with that.

  • Jared Posted: Jan.31 at 4:23 pm
Na you’re right, I was being bitter. I agree that there needs to be a change, I just don’t think the conferences should remain the same and the playoff format change, I think there should be a complete overhaul. It would probably be tougher for basketball for an east coast team to travel out west more frequently, but baseball plays 162 games a year, man-up.

  • Russ Bengtson Posted: Jan.31 at 4:24 pm
And seeing that they both went to Virginia Union, I think it would be terribly appropriate–even necessary–for Charles Oakley to punch Ben Wallace in the face. They should just re-sign Dennis Rodman at this point. I seriously think he’d be more effective.

  • Myles Brown Posted: Jan.31 at 4:25 pm
Al mentioned a comparison to D.R. I dont remember Rodman ever making that much money though…

  • Russ Bengtson Posted: Jan.31 at 4:26 pm
Travel, schmavel. Every team has a private jet equipped with chefs and masseuses and God knows waht else these days. It’s not like back in the ’50s where teams would drive 300 miles through the snow in an old Buick station wagon.

  • Myles Brown Posted: Jan.31 at 4:26 pm
And I might as well go ahead and say that Rodman was better than Wallace ever was…

  • TADOne Posted: Jan.31 at 4:27 pm
What time in the AM is your flight Holly?

  • Jared Posted: Jan.31 at 4:28 pm
So let’s start the revolution Russ…lets lobby for that realignment so that the league doesn’t suck. And didn’t Oak already bust Big Bust’s lip at a camp one summer or something?

  • Holly MacKenzie Posted: Jan.31 at 4:31 pm
9am. there is one earlier at 6:30 I may try to switch to.. of course its over 100 dollars more than my original flight… haha man.. What way to test me! How bad was the weather in Det, Tad?

  • white hot eboy Posted: Jan.31 at 4:32 pm
Holly, my mom owns a 5 year old Husky. He’s from primo stock and I could do sameday shipping if you can wrangle a sled and some reigns.

  • Holly MacKenzie Posted: Jan.31 at 4:34 pm
haahah, Eboy… I would do just about anything to get myself there. This had better work out or I may have a breakdown. hahaha.. I am only half-joking.

  • TADOne Posted: Jan.31 at 4:35 pm
Don’t think it would make much difference anyway. 9 am is probably better because any overnight ice will have melted. My sis says the weather in Metro Detroit is good right now.

  • white hot eboy Posted: Jan.31 at 4:37 pm
    I was only half-joking too.

  • white hot eboy Posted: Jan.31 at 4:40 pm
I think I’m feeling really bad for Mutoni right now.

  • Holly MacKenzie Posted: Jan.31 at 4:42 pm
He is on his way, Eboy…I’m sure he will get there safely, tonight before anything weather-wise starts.

  • TADOne Posted: Jan.31 at 4:45 pm
Doesn’t sound like we will have a Post Up tomorrow.

  • Holly MacKenzie Posted: Jan.31 at 4:47 pm
you will, I will still be here, probably wanting to gouge my eyes out.

  • white hot eboy Posted: Jan.31 at 4:47 pm
Holly, I actually meant I feel bad for him having to deal with uber-stressed Holly.

  • Russ Bengtson Posted: Jan.31 at 4:47 pm
There’s only four games, luckily. Four pretty good games, though.

  • Holly MacKenzie Posted: Jan.31 at 4:48 pm
sorry for hijacking your convo Russ.

  • TADOne Posted: Jan.31 at 4:48 pm
Four real good games. Holly, expect a comment on your Myspace if Detroit wins ;)

  • Bryan Posted: Jan.31 at 4:49 pm
Russ: if you make it a column do I get a shout-out?

  • TADOne Posted: Jan.31 at 4:49 pm
I think Russ is going to make this into his own post anyway. Probably setting it up right now.

  • Holly MacKenzie Posted: Jan.31 at 4:49 pm
nah, Eboy. He won’t have to deal with me if I’m not there. ahhahh thats actually not funny. At this point, if I get there, it would all be good. I am thankful there are only four on the sched tonight too, Russ. These busy nights have been rough!

  • Russ Bengtson Posted: Jan.31 at 4:50 pm
    A) Holly, no worries seeing that I hijacked your column to have said convo in the first place.
    B) Shia, no doubt.

  • TADOne Posted: Jan.31 at 4:50 pm
    Shia comes out the woodwork.

  • Bryan Posted: Jan.31 at 4:51 pm
Yeah dude my power went out again so I took a nap for some energy for my game tonight, I’m suffering from the ever common flu like symptoms.

  • white hot eboy Posted: Jan.31 at 4:51 pm
Please refer to him as Shia, Russ. PLEASE!!!

  • Holly MacKenzie Posted: Jan.31 at 4:52 pm
Just shout out the entire Post Up crew, Russ! I’m happy that you’ve become a regular in here, haha

  • TADOne Posted: Jan.31 at 4:53 pm
Had them earlier in the week. No fun.

  • TADOne Posted: Jan.31 at 4:53 pm
Shia is going to have an MJ flu game tonight.

  • white hot eboy Posted: Jan.31 at 4:55 pm
Meaning he will only take 3 young boys instead of 6…..oh, you meant Michael JORDAN…..sorry.

  • white hot eboy Posted: Jan.31 at 4:58 pm
Hey, we went 400 + comments without as much as a fart joke. One won’t kill anybody.

  • Bryan Posted: Jan.31 at 5:00 pm
    Hilarious.

  • white hot eboy Posted: Jan.31 at 5:02 pm
You are such a d*uche, redneck boy.

  • Bryan Posted: Jan.31 at 5:03 pm
I don’t think I could be any further from being a redneck.

  • TADOne Posted: Jan.31 at 5:06 pm
Shia looks like he runs over rednecks. I think he looks like a serial killer with his glasses.

  • white hot eboy Posted: Jan.31 at 5:07 pm
You split time between Panama City and Georgia, you tell me where I’m wrong.

  • Russ Bengtson Posted: Jan.31 at 5:08 pm
I’ve got some sort of a gnarly cold/allergy today. Hating life. We’ll see if I get that up today or tomorrow.

  • Bryan Posted: Jan.31 at 5:09 pm
The fact that I’m from Brooklyn Ny? and that the only people I spend any time with are my family who are also from Brooklyn, and people who are in bands that travel everywhere.

  • TADOne Posted: Jan.31 at 5:09 pm
It’s going around Russ. I’ve had it since Monday.

  • Holly MacKenzie Posted: Jan.31 at 5:09 pm
In the event of a huge storm and cancelled flights, does everything just get delayed or what? (please tell me something encouraging).

  • TADOne Posted: Jan.31 at 5:10 pm
Oh sh*t! I just realized who Shia looks like on his Myspace pic. MC Serch.

  • TADOne Posted: Jan.31 at 5:11 pm
Delayed at first. Only really huge storms get cancellations.

  • Holly MacKenzie Posted: Jan.31 at 5:11 pm
waiting on an email (or 5!), Russ. hhaha

  • Holly MacKenzie Posted: Jan.31 at 5:13 pm
tad, you are my angel of hope right now. hahahah strong words, but, I am so freaking intense right now. MAN. hahah googling mc serch to compare with Shia.

  • TADOne Posted: Jan.31 at 5:13 pm
Or a lost member of the Beastie Boys.

  • TADOne Posted: Jan.31 at 5:14 pm
Holly, do you fly out at 9 or arrive at 9?

  • Russ Bengtson Posted: Jan.31 at 5:15 pm
TADOne, gets the gasface. From Shia, I mean.
And Holly, it’s not THAT many. Um, I don’t think.

  • Holly MacKenzie Posted: Jan.31 at 5:17 pm
