Worthy of Your Attention

Pistons vs Spurs

by Marcel Mutoni

This is the kind of game that fair-weather fans, the kind that get most of their nightly hoop fix from the Sportscenter Top 10, despise. But if you know and love the game, it’s an absolute treat. Two great teams, in a rematch of the 2005 Finals, going at it on national television. What more could you want?

The Pistons are an angry bunch these days, stinging from two big losses to the Celtics and Mavs. The one and only Rasheed Wallace, frustrated by the team’s play of late and a lack of touches, sounds like he’s just about ready to maim someone, so look for him to have a huge game tonight. Detroit as a whole has a lot to prove as they continue their journey through Texas.

The Spurs, on the other hand, are quietly taking care of business as usual. They’ve been nearly unbeatable at home (17-2), and with everyone getting healthy, they’re just about primed for a long winning streak. Tonight would be a good start.

Even though San Antonio is extremely tough at home, I expect an angry Detroit team to pull this one out and remind everyone that they could be back on this same floor in June.

Prediction: Pistons (98) – Spurs (94)

If your prognasticating holds true to form, Mutoni, the Spurs should win in a rout.

98-94? In 4 OT’s or what? They’ll barely break 160 total in regulation.

Interesting to see the difference between the Defensive Powerhouse Bowen of ’05 vs. the Old Contract Bowen of ’08.

I think the Spurs time has passed. I just don’t see them winning again. We all know they won’t win this year since they never win in consecutive years, and Timmy’s numbers are sliding.

But then again, I can’t see either the Mavs OR the Suns getting to the Finals, let alone winning the chip. Both teams continue to win a bunch of games only to lose when it counts.

Spurs have been on cruise control for most of the season so far and they’re still killing everyone…..only chance for detroit is for Sheed or Billups to go off, b/c they’re in one of their signature scoring droughts right now.

there have only been 3-4 games this season where Ginobili, Duncan and Parker all played together and the Spurs are still killing teams. Just wait until the playoffs for the Spurs well-oiled machine to start cruising. As far as tonight, Sheed will probably have a big game. He almost always comes to play against Duncan, but the Pistons are on the backside of that deaded “Texas two-step” after getting maimed by dallas last night.
    Spurs 92 Pistons 88

The game doesn’t matter as much to the players as the fans. these teams are veterans who focus on playoffs, regardless of the pride factor. The result will not give an indication of how they’ll match up in the playoffs, as both teams will raise their games to the next level come playoffs. Who raises it the most is what will decide a series if it happens.

THE SPURS AND THE PISTONS ARE ON THE BOTTOM OF MY FAVORITE TEAM LIST AND FOR ONLY ONE REASON AND ITS BECAUSE THEY THINK THEY ARE THE BEST IN THE EAST AND THE BEST IN THE WEST. I KNOW THAT THE SPURS ARE THE FINALS CHAMP BUT THEY SUCK THIS YEAR AND THE PISTONS HOW CAN YOU LOSE TO A TEAM THAT DOESNT WIN A GAME IN THE FINALS.THAT HAS TO SAY SOMETHING!!!

Pistons wanted this game more if anything, the Spurs lost due to the lack of energy period. Timmy is always gonna show up and play, the Spurs are still the best just like how they were last year. So what they are not first Big deal, the fact of the matter is the Spurs know what they are doing. I can’t stand it when people say the Spurs are old, if they are so old how the hell did they beat Portland, Atlanta, Orlando etc? tell me how? if not then shut your face. If you think there is something wrong with the Spurs your only blind then, becuase you should know they do this every year. Like Charles Barkley said, “if you don’t like the Spurs, then you don’t like basketball”. Don’t let Boston fool you guys, sure they may be the hit of the party now, but they are not NBA champions yet. And if you think just for a moment that Detriot is not going to beat Boston in the playoffs? think again oh it’s gonna happen, and when it does and they meet San city you will see that these two NBA teams are elite then the rest. Spurs in 08 i’m out like the Miami Heat.
