Welcome to the All-Star 2008 page

We’ll be here all weekend

By Sam Rubenstein

Hi there everyone. Say, did you know we’re headed down to New Orleans? Throughout the weekend, the image on the front page should change whenever we put something new up. If that is not working for some reason, click here and you will go to our All-Star from New Orleans coverage. Okay, very excited to get going.

See you from New Orleans.

Is an All-Star game without Shaq, Tracy and KG really an All-Star game? I guess we’re gonna find out.

  • Captain America

    Make it so.

  • Rasheedionics

Do they have any Charley Barkley or Kenny Smith events this year? Those to me are always the best part of the weekend.

  • Jeronimo

The logo is dope! Congrats for a great job.

  • http://slamonline.com Sam Rubenstein

Yes, Stephen did another great job. My instructions were “Make it like the Vegas All-Star one but New Olreans-y”, and you got Hornets colors and trumpets.
    Seeya!

  • http://slamonline.com Sam Rubenstein

if that came off as sarcastic, I didn’t mean it to. Stephen really did a good job with the logo. Alright… there is stuff going on tonight, we have people there. I expect thoroughness.

  • Kihwan

Very cool logo. Have fun and be safe. Wish I were there.

  • Fredo

That’s probably why I’m leaving New Orleans for the weekend.

I hope Kobe doesn’t play the Lakers need to rest the thing. It could become worse you know imagine he had a hangnail or somthing. I say down with Allstar weekend… only because I’ll never be able to afford to go.

You know I’m always trying to read in between the lines and some wild stuff came to mind. First off Kobe has an injured finger (needs surgery eventually) and has taken his name out of the 3 point contest. But he will play in the All-Star game and the NBA has notified him that they expect him to play. Sounds like Kobe is really injured and the NBA is just trying to milk him for All Star weekend dollars. How can you play a game but not just shoot a few 3′s? I think the NBA is trying to get Kobe. What do you think?

Also for the last few weeks the NBA has been in limbo on deciding what to do if Jason Kidd was traded. They didn’t know if they should play him on the West All-Star team or the East. They also didn’t know if he should start etc. There were all kinds of possible problems had he been traded before All Star break and the NBA openly admitted they didn’t have any answers. Now all of the sudden the Kidd trade can’t go through just days before the All Star break. hmmmmmmm? I think the NBA is up to somehting. You can blame it on Devean George if you want to but I bet this trade goes down as soon as All Star break is over.

NBA Hits Their All Star Break – Factoids::::

The Boston Celtics not only enter the All-Star break with the best record in the NBA (41-9), but also the leagues best record against the spread (32-17-1). Additionally, Boston is 6-2-1 ATS in its last nine games without the injured Kevin Garnett. The Miami Heat own the distinction of having the leagues poorest spread record at 18-32-1.

Boson has an excellent 16-10 (61 percent) ATS home record. But Utah is No. 1 against the number when playing at home, going 16-7 (69 percent). However, Boston owns the best spread record against above-.500 teams (14-8), with Sacramento close behind (14-9). New Orleans has the best spread record against below .500 teams (17-9). Surprisingly, the Dallas Mavs are just 9-15-1 ATS versus teams with a losing record.

Detroit owns the second-best home spread mark at 15-9 (62 percent). Denver is 16-11 (59 percent) at Pepsi Center. Its certainly not shocking that the Heat have the worst home mark versus the spread at 7-19 (26 percent).

The Nets have the second-worst home spread record at 8-19 (29 percent). Chicago and Cleveland, each at 8-16 (33 percent), also have problems covering the spread at home.

New Orleans and Orlando feature the top road pointspread marks. The Hornets are 18-8 (69 percent), while the Magic are 20-9 (69 percent). The Lakers (18-9) and Celtics (14-7) arent far behind.

The Charlotte Bobcats have the worst road pointspread mark by far at 7-14 (33 percent).

Boston and Detroit have the greatest average margin of victory. The Celtics are defeating opponents by an average of 10 points per game, while the Pistons have been victorious by an average of eight points a game. No other team has an average victory margin of more than six points.

Miami, Minnesota and Seattle all have the highest average losing margin. All three are dropping games by an average of more than seven points. The Milwaukee Bucks have the fourth-worst losing margin, falling by an average of 6 1/2 points per contest.

Golden State not only has the leagues top offense, it is also the No. 1 over team. The over is 28-22 (56 percent) in the clubs first 50 contests. Other strong over teams are Sacramento (26-21), New York (29-23) and Toronto (28-23).

The best under teams have been San Antonio (32-18), Minnesota (30-19), Seattle (31-20), Los Angeles Clippers (30-20) and Portland (31-21).

Other interesting statistics at the break appear below.

    * Boston is 16-0 SU against Western Conference squads.
    * Utah is on a 12-game home winning streak.
    * Sacramento has won 13 straight overtime outings.
    * Boston is 25-1 SU in games decided by 10 points or more.
*Golden State is 7-1 SU in games decided by three points or less.
*Detroit is 22-1 SU when scoring 100 points or more.
*Philadelphia is 1-17 SU when allowing 100 points or more.

leave it to a betting site to have those kinds of numbers.
    Here’s some more factoids:
Boston has won two more games than Detroit.
There are about 10 really good Western Conference teams.
    Psst…. i’ll take the over on Sunday’s game….

The lily flowers at the bottom of the logo, at each side of the ball, were the symbole of the french Kingdom, before French revolution in 1789.
