Worthy of Your Attention

by Marcel Mutoni

The second round of the Playoffs kicks off this weekend, but first, a trio of Game 6′s to (potentially) close out the postseason’s opening round this evening.

Rockets at Jazz: Utah is coming off a humiliating Game Five loss, and with a well-rested Laker team waiting in the wings, they’ll be looking to close out the series tonight.

(If Houston loses, can we be spared – just this once – of the gut-wrenching T-Mac press conference? Please?!)

Cavs @ Wizards
: Washington hopes to force a Game Seven tonight, and being at home, they have a decent shot. We all know that LeBron is going to be a monster; the key will be whether or not Caron Butler can play as well as he did in Game Five. With Gilbert in street clothes, the pressure to deliver is definitely on Tuff Juice.

Celtics @ Hawks: Over the course of the last 96 hours or so, more people have cared about the fate of the Atlanta Hawks than at any other time over the last decade. Not to worry, things will be back to normal soon enough.

‘Nique, who you might recall predicted this series wouldn’t be a cakewalk for the C’s, has the keys to Atlanta forcing a seventh and decisive game. I can only guess that the “Break KG’s fibula” bullet point was left on the cutting room floor.

I know there have been a lot of variables, but I can’t help thinking that alot of this is Mac’s fault, he was unhappy being #2, where he could’ve won rings and made us wonder if he could carry a team on his own, and now he’s unhappy being #1, where he hasn’t won rings, probably won’t, and we (and he) now know that he can’t

  • Sko

Still have a lot of love for him though, that Orlando joint was the first jersey I ever bought, even though I wished then that he had come to Chicago. Clearly, Grant Hill’s crumble wasn’t his fault, and him pushing himself so hard to make up for it may have contributed to his own body’s decline. It also wasn’t his fault that he ended up paired with another fragile star.

  • Sko

I still wonder what it would’ve been like if he had gone to the Lakers in that trade, maybe Orlando gets Lamar, Caron, and Brian Grant, and Phil keeps winning rings forever (+/- a ferocious rebounder/post defender).

  • Sko

coulda been Tyson, home to Compton, the Bulls gave him up for a song anyway, but I think I’ll stop now

  • The Promise

Rockets, Wizards, and Celtics win tonight.

Mutoni, is it possible for you to put the time of the games on too? it’d make it easier (for us, that is).

  • niQ

lets go rockets, atl, and washington!

Wizards-Cavs will be the most exciting game. Darius got screwed!
    Can’t wait.

  • Diesel

No, lets not go Rockets, Atl, and Washington. Lets try and keep these playoffs as close to 3 months long as possible. All these game 7′s and we’re pushing 4 months.

  • ciolkstar

    4 months! Wow that’s ridiculous.

  • Bubba Chuck

    DETROIT PISTONS!

  • Bubba Chuck

    CLEVELAND CAVALIERS!

  • Bubba Chuck

    WASHINGTON WIZARDS!

  • Mehmet

All 3 series will be over tonight.

  • Mehmet

Besides, dates for the Finals are already set, so unless someone forces a Game 9 or 11, we’ll be done by June 19.

  • RV

diesel, why would you want playoffs without game 7s? That’s what its all about, what was expected before the west screwed things up.

  • RV

Tmac is suppose to go for 40 tonight, according to a local radio show a few days ago, the rockets told tmac if he took care of them in utah, they’d take care of things back in Houston, something like that. Apparently that meant him going off for 40+, which tmac said he could do, how serious this was I have no idea..

  • jub_al

…the one series where everybody and anybody would’ve predicted sweep has become one of two possible series’ to go to game 7…

…the NBA, where crazy train becomes prophet happens…

  • Mehmet

The Hawks are continuing to shock the world as the Celtics are continuing to choke. There’s not much shock left in me.

  • http://www.nba.com Hursty

wow. go hawks. its not possible is it?

  • RV

well, tmac is definitely going for 40+ like i mentioned, problem is, he’s taking his teammates out of the offense, so its hurting them more than its helping.

    Atl, shawty.

Did everyone see that gang sign that Shane Battier threw up at the refs at half time. After he missed a three pointer he put up his right arm and with his left hand started tapping his elbow. I think it means “I’m going to gut you.” He should definately be suspended.

  • davidR

damn promise, you went 0 for 3

I think the key for the Celtics to win the game 7 is Paul Pierce. in the terms of playoff experience, PP is the veteran not Garnett or Allen. Garnett could score and defend all he want or maybe Allen could run through sets of pick but ultimately it’ll come down to PP.

i guess it hurts to have to eat your words… i hope they at least tasted as good going back in as they did coming out SLAM.
