Worthy of Your Attention

by Marcel Mutoni

Win or go home. Detroit knows what’s up tonight.

The C’s are one win away from a long-awaited return to the Finals, where their oldest rivals await them. Considering the way they’ve performed on the road during this postseason, though, a Game Seven back on their homefloor seems almost predestined.

The Pistons got some good news today, as Rip Hamilton confirmed that he’ll be in the starting lineup (bum elbow be damned.) How effective he’ll be remains to be seen, but his presence alone should give the team a nice emotional lift.

Boston has to like the way Ray Allen was able to regain his shooting touch in Game Five, and they’ll look for him to continue bombing away from the perimeter.

(If Shuttlesworth is able to go for 25 + tonight (with the usual contributions from KG and Pierce), the Celtics might not have to face a decisive game back in Beantown. Though, Chauncey Billups – injured or not – figures to have a major say in that.)

A part of me wishes for the Pistons to lose tonight, just to see Rasheed’s sure-to-be classic reaction.

I hope the pistons win tonight then go to boston & win game 7.

  • Chukaz Posted: May.30 at 5:48 pm
F*ck the East. They shouldn’t bother to play this game. The Lakers are champions already. Eastern Conference teams are not good enought to compete with Western teams. The only reason the Heat won a championship 2 years ago is because it was agains the Maverick and we all know they like to f*ck up every opportunity they get. The Pistons won in 2k4 cuz Shaq and Kobe hated each other.

  • bbfan Posted: May.30 at 6:06 pm
I’m a Lakers fan, but the Celtics did beat the Lakers twice this year. I’m not sure if they can pull it off, but i’m happy that they got this far.

  • Rico Posted: May.30 at 6:07 pm
DETROIT WHAT! DETROIT IN 7! Shawn Kemp is making a comback! Expect to see him ballin’ old skool in the 08-09′ season!

  • Keith Posted: May.30 at 6:10 pm
If Shawn Kemp comes back, I want Detlef Shrempf back too.

  • Rico Posted: May.30 at 6:10 pm
Dude…I’m serious about Kemp….he’s in the best shape of his life and is ready to roll!

  • Keith Posted: May.30 at 6:14 pm
I completely believe you. Who is it he’s signing for?

  • TADOne Posted: May.30 at 6:17 pm
Yeah Chukaz, it is pointless. Why wasn’t that an NBA championship trophy presentation last night, instead of just a Western Conference championship presentation? These fools are wasting everyone’s time.

  • Rico Posted: May.30 at 6:18 pm
He hasn’t signed with anybody yet….he’s going to be working out with interested teams. The dude is looking good. He’ll probably sign with a team that is in need of a solid big to come off the bench. He won’t be the Kemp of old, but he’ll be solid.

  • Keith Posted: May.30 at 6:19 pm
Yeah, Stern should just make the playoffs the best 16 teams in the NBA and 1 should play 16, 2 and 15 etc regardless of conference.

  • Keith Posted: May.30 at 6:20 pm
Rico: Purely because you said “he’s in the best shape of his life” do I not believe what you are saying.

  • Rico Posted: May.30 at 6:22 pm
Keith….google it fartbreath! It’s all over the internet….SLAM will be postin’ something soon no doubt!

  • Kings in 2009 Posted: May.30 at 6:24 pm
Kemp has been trying to come back for years now. Its not hard for him to be in the best shape of his life when the last 3 years he played he was 60 pounds over weight. No team is going to sign him, guaranteed.

  • Brandon Hoffman Posted: May.30 at 6:26 pm
Honestly, who in their right mind could predict what’s going to happen tonight. Common sense says that Detroit will “flip the switch” and force a game 7. But with RIP injured and Chauncey less than 100%, I’m taking the Celtics by a narrow margin.

  • Brandon Hoffman Posted: May.30 at 6:26 pm
And yes, I’m in my right mind. We’ll see if I’m right.

  • Keith Posted: May.30 at 6:27 pm
And he’s in the best shape of his life? I look forward to seeing a trim Shawn Kemp who can jump above the clouds.

  • Rico Posted: May.30 at 6:29 pm
Keith…he may not be in the best shape of his life, but he is in pretty damn good shape. Google it….google can teach you all things…it will inform you that Rasheed is gonna tackle KG which will ignite Boston and they will pull away in the final minutes with a solid win! Google keith…google.

  • Keith Posted: May.30 at 6:34 pm
I’ve never heard of this ‘Google’. What is it? Is it like a magic 8 ball?

  • Sam Mitchell's Conscience Posted: May.30 at 6:36 pm
Can we shift this discussion in the direction of last night’s LOST season finale? How the heck did Locke get in the coffin? How’d he get off the island? What bad things happened when the O6 left? What’s up with Christian? Why’d Charlotte stay. Personally I think Charlotte is Ben’s childhood friend Annie.

  • Rico Posted: May.30 at 6:38 pm
Good call Sam….Keith is an idiot and doesn’t know anything about basketball.

  • mark shehady Posted: May.30 at 7:40 pm
I have something to say about the love feast between KG and Sheed.I think it’s perfectly fine that they hug after every game. They are freinds.I don’t have a problem with that.By the way I like the Pistons although KG is phenominal.

  • Russ Bengtson Posted: May.30 at 8:33 pm
There’s pretty much no way Sheed doesn’t get that seventh tech.

  • WhaHuh Posted: May.30 at 9:47 pm
We all saw KG take himself out of the 1st half. This is a Game 6 man, get in the game.

  • Russ Bengtson Posted: May.30 at 9:50 pm
    Leon Powe!

  • Hursty Posted: May.30 at 11:50 pm
    poor TAD….

  • Russ Bengtson Posted: May.31 at 12:03 am
*sort of hopes the Bulls hire Flip Saunders*

  • DP Posted: May.31 at 12:12 am
TAD is MIA for the rest of the year. Wish I could have watched the game, I was watching Coming to America with my moms. she says all I do is talk about basketball. go figure.

  • Phila Posted: May.31 at 12:12 am
    CELTICS TO DA FINALS!!!!

  • Marco Posted: May.31 at 12:38 am
Dejavu anyone? I’m glad the Celtics made it to the Finals. Ever since that Gasol trade I said that this Finals matchup was gonna happen. So everybody stop hatin’, cause this is classic material. And both teams deserve to be there! Seriously, who would’ve wanted to see TD and his IRobotaires fight the aging Pistons! You gotta be kidding me! I’m looking forward to exciting 7 games, and though I hope that P Double, KG and Ray will finally get a ring, I guess it’s gonna be the KB…I mean Lakeshow, going to Disneyland. And they’d deserve it, too. Especially MVPKB24…Still, I hope the C’s will make it. And L.A. is gonna win it next year anyway when Bynum will be back. Deal?

  • Bubba Chuck Posted: May.31 at 12:48 am
    Damn!

  • Bubba Chuck Posted: May.31 at 12:49 am
    O well. Go Celtics!

  • Arik Posted: May.31 at 3:08 am
I’m wondering when the Karl Malone rule will be enforced on Paul Pierce… by my watch he took between 11-12 seconds on average to get a free throw off after he got the ball for the entire series (hint hint Laker fans, not that you’ll need the help).

  • adams Posted: May.31 at 3:48 am
Rasheed Wallace: Possibly one of the 10 best power forwards in the Eastern Conference. But nobody can be sure.

  • Tuomas Posted: May.31 at 3:57 am
Really a f’n piece of crap fourth quarter, one of the most depressing ways to go. Just have to see what Dumars comes up with, I’m too drained to think right now.

  • TripleDouble Posted: May.31 at 11:57 am
Despite it all,.. you gotta have a thought for Detroit. Give them love. Shots didn’t fall… etc. etc.,… but they got some serious competitors… Instead of reviewing and analysing, just give them a nod and be a little sorry for those dudes. They are for real, it just didn’t happen.

  • TADOne Posted: May.31 at 12:26 pm
    Congrats to the Celtics.

  • Chukaz Posted: May.31 at 1:14 pm
Poor Celtics, they don’t stand a chance against the Lakers. Think about it for a second. Kobe got where ever the f*ck he wanted to go against the Spurs/Bruce Bowen. James Poser is their best defender and he isn’t fast/athletic/strong enough to handle Kobe plus he won’t get enough minutes. He is going to destroy P Double or Jesus and the series is going to be over in 5, maybe less. Statistically, the C’s are the best defensive team in the league, but they play in the Eastern conference where scoring over 90 points doesn’t happen every often. Their pick n’ roll defense is great, but the Lakers don’t run many pick and rolls (Kobe don’t need no pick to destroy people) and Pau is gonna go to work on Perk (sure, Pau was soft against Timmy, but Perk ain’t timmy) and the Lakers young bench will destroy the C’s one man bench/ James poser.

  • Mohammed Posted: May.31 at 1:23 pm
perkins will d up gasol. kg will manhandle lamar. kobe will destroy whoever the C’s throw at him…its a fairly even matchup/

  • Eboy Posted: May.31 at 1:53 pm
I’m glad Chukaz is back on the regular, ’cause he sure is amusing!!!! :)

  • adams Posted: May.31 at 2:04 pm
Oh TripleDouble, why would anybody feel sorry for those guys? They’re one of the most overrated teams ever. They managed to get to the conference finals in a weak conference for ages and failed every time since 2004. Seriously, Sheed with four points? “Haha, he’s so cool and funny! He’s one of the most talented guys and he can dominate anyone if he wants!” Why doesn’t he want it? I see a bunch of losers (yeah, I’m exaggerating a bit) who have had their egos stroked for way too long and who have no one to blame but themselves. No sympathy from me.

  • E. Sneed Posted: May.31 at 6:19 pm
This is the Finals’ matchup I was dreaming for…Best in a LONG TIME!

  • will Posted: May.31 at 6:20 pm
celts will outdo the lakers in 5

  • will Posted: May.31 at 6:23 pm
    i mean 6

  • tealish Posted: Jun.1 at 2:33 am
adams: a bunch of losers? Yea I know Sheed was underwhelming and Prince should’ve played better. But don’t tell me you’re knocking Chauncey and Rip too?

  • adams Posted: Jun.1 at 7:49 am
I’m merely using the same kind of hyperbole that’s been used in the media and by the Pistons players themselves over the last years, you know: “The Pistons are just great, they play the right way, they’re such a t-e-a-m, they deserve at least 9 All-Stars, blabla” Without the exaggeration they haven’t been losers but they haven’t been great either. So they’re a good average team, who have been lucky enough to play in the East. I’m just annoyed by the self-adulation and media butt-licking.

  • slay Posted: Jun.1 at 11:45 pm
kg plays so hard pierce ent gat it so.cl gat all it takes

  • Dacre Posted: Jun.3 at 12:04 am
Boston have Doc Rivers…so unfortunately: LAL in 6.
