RJ Not Exactly Thrilled With Trade to Milwaukee

by Marcel Mutoni

Last week, the Nets began to prepare for the summer of 2010 (AKA: LeBron’s free agency) by practically giving away Richard Jefferson. In return, they got a tantalizing (but unproven) talent in Yi Jianlin, and the corpse of one Bobby Simmons.

Jefferson, who had played his entire career with the Nets, is not happy with the trade. Sayeth Nets President Rod Thorn:

“He didn’t seem very happy,” said Thorn, who emphasized yesterday he had not yet spoken to Jefferson.

“I spoke to his agent, I called him, texted him. I like Richard. He was here for a long time and I’m sure he still expected to be here. Unless you are the one pushing for it, it’s always difficult when you are traded. You are going to a new place, have new teammates. It’s hard at first.”

Cheer up, Richard. You’ll be playing in frigid Milwaukee, and your coach will be the ball-busting Scott Skiles. Oh wait, never mind. You’re right to be miserable. Carry on.

Jefferson played in 489 games as a Net, and leaves with career averages of 17.4 points and 5.4 boards.

    FIRST??

  • Hursty Posted: Jun.30 at 9:06 am
Its not like he can complain about lack of talent in Milwaukee. The weather is still shi*ty but its cr@p in N.J anyways, also it smells funny (apparently) and his health is bound to improve with no ever-present smog/dirt/fumes/murky cloud “thing” hanging over his head.

  • Eboy Posted: Jun.30 at 9:15 am
    Who would be?

  • TADOne Posted: Jun.30 at 9:19 am
I thought Marcel was off today.

  • Hursty Posted: Jun.30 at 9:23 am
E- I feel much more peaceful and calm today….. I would be happy to play in Milwaukee for 15 million dollars a year. For 50,000 a year even.

  • Eboy Posted: Jun.30 at 9:27 am
Well, all of us that don’t play at the NBA level would be willing to do it too, but I’m sure RJ thinks he could play in Phoenix or LA or Miami or Golden State and play well in a much nicer surroundings and play for a equally talented team.

  • Hursty Posted: Jun.30 at 9:31 am
Thats very perceptive of you Eboy. In the next few hours a few things should be happening on our blog so check it out.

  • LAN Posted: Jun.30 at 9:33 am
milwaukee should b good with he n alexander n bogut will b a 20 n 10 guy n villi shall b around that mark 2 if he plays to his potential. i would b happy if i was rj

  • Hursty Posted: Jun.30 at 9:39 am
LAN- ive said it before, your an idiot, please speak coherent english. You make nice points but your sub words are annoying.

  • Jukai Posted: Jun.30 at 9:44 am
He’s sayign Milwaukee has a chance to make the playoffs, and I agree

  • LAN Posted: Jun.30 at 9:44 am
sorry, i will try and speak coherent english

  • Hursty Posted: Jun.30 at 9:50 am
Its cool man. Just really hard to read. Jukai- absolutely. That roster is good enough for the 2nd round. No doubt. The east has become a lot stronger the last year compared to the last 5-10.

  • RedRum Posted: Jun.30 at 9:52 am
I don’t get this making room for lebron thing… if the Nets trade all the good players they have, why would James would want to go there???

  • dfrance Posted: Jun.30 at 9:55 am
I’m looking forward to seeing what Villenueva will do with the increased PT. In his blog he said he felt like he wasn’t in the teams plans, I wonder if he still feels that way?

  • Hursty Posted: Jun.30 at 10:00 am
Because Jefferson is, um, a small forward? Kidd would be 38/9 by the time that season rolled around. Both were making big $, they arent throwing away talent, its just that they theoretically should have a good point+backup in Harris and Williams, a 2 (old Vince+C.D.R) a vacancy at 3 for LeBron, Nachbar and Swift at 4 and a random at 5 who is yet to be filled. That team in 3 years time is better than the one they would have if they maintained their core 3.

  • Brandon Hoffman Posted: Jun.30 at 10:11 am
I like Richard Jefferson. He seems like a good guy. And in all honesty, I wouldn’t want to live in Milwaukee either. But RJ should be thanking his lucky stars that the Nets signed him to his bloated contract before trading him. He still has a total $42.4 million dollars on the table over the next three seasons. Enjoy it while it lasts Richard, because no one will be dumb enough to sign you to anything close to that when your contract expires…

  • Hursty Posted: Jun.30 at 10:11 am
Gilbert Arenas is on the market (officially anyways). But we knew this. On washington post.

  • Hursty Posted: Jun.30 at 10:17 am
    harsh but true Brandon.

  • B. Long Posted: Jun.30 at 10:18 am
Suprise, Suprise. What ever happened to Desmond Mason?

  • Slobodan Chutzpah Posted: Jun.30 at 10:25 am
I really find the whole concept of this 2010 LeBron Sweepstakes hilarious. It seems a few teams, or at least the Nets, are mortgaging their entire future on a scenario (Bron signing with the very unsexy Nets, of all the teams in the NBA) that will probably never happen – Jay-Z or no Jay-Z. It’s like tanking the whole season, and ending up with the 6th pick in the draft. I guess NBA teams are just funny that way.

RJ is just going through separation anxiety. Next week he will be wearing a cheese wedge (re. Green Bay Packers fans) on his head at the Buck’s presser.

  • Captain America Posted: Jun.30 at 10:28 am
More importantly, this should make the Bucks much better as a team. Good for them.

  • Mo Charlo Posted: Jun.30 at 10:48 am
It’s because Yi told him that there’s no Asian women in Milwaukee.

  • ciolkstar Posted: Jun.30 at 10:48 am
Milukee’s best? I wouldn’t be thrilled either…that city/team is pretty wack. “I got bucks like Miluakee and like Sam, I Cassell”

  • ciolkstar Posted: Jun.30 at 10:53 am
I predict that RJ’s numbers will do a “Kenyon Martin” now that he isn’t the recipient of endless lobs from J Kidd. I think NJ brought Yi over to increase their market share in televised NBA games in China. To familiarize Chinese basketball fans with The Nets, in anticipation for the Summer of LeBron.

  • ciolkstar Posted: Jun.30 at 10:58 am
“Miluakee is derived from the Native American “Mill-ee-wah-kay” which means_____________________” Anyone remember how that line from Wayne’s world ends…?

  • Mo Charlo Posted: Jun.30 at 11:31 am
ciolkstar, “it’s Algonquin, for ‘the good land.’”

  • DP Posted: Jun.30 at 11:44 am
I’m trying to see…would I win if I had Vince, Devin, and Shawne on my side or would I win more if I had Redd, Mo, Bogut, and Alexander? Plus me? sh*t I wouldn’t be complaining about this trade and the only way I see that he can is if he wanted to finish his career with the Nets.

  • AB_40 Posted: Jun.30 at 11:52 am
RJ was a playa back in jersey and new york.
Now he goes to milawaulke blegh I don’t even wanna know how to write it. Milwaulke women aren’t known for anything so they won’t be that fine and sophisticated. On the court it’s probably better for em being option number 1 or 2 but off the court?

  • DP Posted: Jun.30 at 11:59 am
RJ will be the second option after Redd. Sh*t if he doesn’t have the heart anymore, Joe Alexander can make something happen.

  • riggs Posted: Jun.30 at 12:36 pm
you know why lebron might be going to the nets? because, i predict, as soon as they land in brooklyn theyre rehauling the entire team (from the jerseys to the logo to its entire persona) from scratch. so guess who would love to be the star attraction of the show?

  • BxBaller Posted: Jun.30 at 12:53 pm
HAHAHA! I’m so glad he’s out of the NYC metro area. Dude was overrated and a cornball too. LMAO.

  • Celts Fan Posted: Jun.30 at 1:33 pm
From college in Arizona (heaven,) to his first 5+ years just outside NYC, to Milwaukee. Let’s put him on suicide watch. We made sure his shoes don’t have laces right?

  • jdubbs Posted: Jun.30 at 1:38 pm
If my company wanted to pay me $42 million in the midst of a major US recession to work for 3 years in Milwaukee, I dunno, I’d at least think about it.
Ask Latrell Sprewell how he’s doing nowadays.

  • Jukai Posted: Jun.30 at 2:46 pm
    jdubbs wins

  • albie1kenobi Posted: Jun.30 at 4:59 pm
ditto to what coilkstar said about Nets having televised NBA games in China. some players are worth more to an organization than what they bring on the court in terms of winning games, which is the same exact reason that kobe and yao were never gonna be traded.

  • albie1kenobi Posted: Jun.30 at 5:02 pm
and i’m sure RJ’s not complaining about the team that he’ll be playing with. it’s more about the cold and possibly lack of fyne women. can’t believe his chicken voice is/was a playa.

  • TripleDouble Posted: Jun.30 at 5:02 pm
Jefferson must have one of the worst tattoos in the league… A basketball with RJ that looks like a prison tatt… When I first saw that on his arm, I wrote him off forever… Forever Richard, forever… haha.

  • Tommy Patron Posted: Jun.30 at 5:27 pm
Richard Jefferson is not good enough for anyone to care if he is happy or not.

  • Gerard Himself Posted: Jun.30 at 6:21 pm
“Gerard Himself also not happy with RJ being traded to Milwaukee”

  • BETCATS Posted: Jun.30 at 6:29 pm
RJ is now the Milwaulke Strangler.

  • BETCATS Posted: Jun.30 at 6:30 pm
get it? because RJ choked a b!tch? anyone remeber that?

  • TripleDouble Posted: Jun.30 at 8:40 pm
Hmmmm… Maybe Richard Jefferson is a “Poison Clan” Fan… Y’all know that group…? Tooooo good.
“I put a bitch in a chokehold, I hate a broke ho’, so hit the doo’ ho’”.

  • People's Princess Posted: Jun.30 at 11:51 pm
    Isn’t he gay??

  • Jeter Posted: Jul.1 at 3:17 am
Why trade for Jefferson then draft Alexander? Aren’t they one and the same player? And they still have Michael Redd. Too many on the wings and too soft at the front. More trades, I guess.

  • LAN Posted: Jul.1 at 4:37 am
@jeter Alexander is more a post player than a wing. It is always good to have depth at every position also.

  • Gerard Himself Posted: Jul.1 at 7:42 am
my new blog is dedicated to RJ. My guess is he will be out of Milwaukee within now and 2 seasons. Can’t imagine him spending a lot of time there.

  • kracka Posted: Jul.1 at 11:53 am
    Start wearing your headbands now!!!

  • Talented Posted: Jul.6 at 8:52 pm
Daaaamn this hurts..wow. I hope they get some more help in waukee for redd n rj then. I didnt care that milwaukee sucked too much cuz michael redd was still tryna do his thing, but now i wanna see them do well now that rj feels pain.
