Mavs Can’t Get Rid of Devean George, Give Him an Extension

by Marcel Mutoni

Devean George famously blocked the Jason Kidd-to-Dallas trade last season, for a short while anyway, and Mark Cuban nearly lost his mind.

It was assumed by just about everyone that George would be on the next thing smoking out of Texas, and after throwing up an absolute stinker shortly after the news broke of his surprising trade blockade, Mavs fans wanted blood.

Somehow, Devean survived the PR fiasco, and the veteran forward is going to be sticking around Dallas for a little while longer. From The Dallas Morning News:

However, Rick Carlisle wanted George. And Cuban is more concerned with putting his new coach in position to succeed than carrying out a grudge against an agent.

“I don’t hold grudges, too often,” Cuban wrote in an e-mail. “New coach, new environment. The team comes first.”

Always nice to see team owners and player agents putting their considerable egos aside and conducting business in a civil manner. George’s deal is reportedly worth $4 million over the next two years.
