The Greatest Trade in NBA History

by Russ Bengtson

I was going to let Marcel post this, but some things just can’t wait.

The New York Knicks have acquired Patrick Ewing Jr. from the Houston Rockets in exchange for…oh, just read it. You’d never believe me anyway.

    f*cking…wow.

  • Ken H. Posted: Aug.29 at 4:16 pm
isnt that the dope VC dunked on?

  • Mush Posted: Aug.29 at 4:17 pm
Is Weis even a good player?

  • LA Huey Posted: Aug.29 at 4:21 pm
I thought you lost your rights to a player the minute someone jumps over and dunks on him.

  • the baconator Posted: Aug.29 at 4:23 pm
This is more monumental than last year’s trade of Von Wafer for Taurean Green…

  • Russ Bengtson Posted: Aug.29 at 4:27 pm
That headline was not meant to be sarcastic in the least. And neither is this comment. Best NBA story of the off-season, bar none.

  • Jukai Posted: Aug.29 at 4:32 pm
My mind is blown. In all the wrong ways.

  • mat smith Posted: Aug.29 at 4:34 pm
thats a jersey sale right there, I might even buy one, might….

  • TADOne Posted: Aug.29 at 4:34 pm
This is beyond awesome. Now they just need to find Weis to finalize it.

  • Yann Blavec Posted: Aug.29 at 4:39 pm
A view from France : Weis has played in Spain, quite well. The french team finished 3rd in the Euro tournament and 5th in the Worlds with him in the middle. About THE dunk, Fred has said he wasn’t the right person at the right place at the right moment. I’ll always remember my social and economics studies teacher arriving in the classroom and saying, “some U.S. guy jumped over the french center last night !” I didn’t know it was Vince, but I knew the french center was 7-2, our guy Fredzilla.

  • TADOne Posted: Aug.29 at 4:43 pm
    Someone needs to copyright Fredzilla.

  • Kevin Wilson Posted: Aug.29 at 4:45 pm
Collins needs to trademark, “He jumped OVER his HEAD.”

  • Jukai Posted: Aug.29 at 4:52 pm
mat smith: The jersey should have on it “Patrick Ewing (Jr)”

  • Bryan Posted: Aug.29 at 4:52 pm
    Jesus.

  • Yann Blavec Posted: Aug.29 at 5:01 pm
And of course , Team France finished second in Sidney with Fred as the starting center. otherwise, he has never been a superstar but he started in good teams in the second best bball championship, the spanish one.

  • Jose Posted: Aug.29 at 5:02 pm
    wow.im freaking out man

  • Joel O's Posted: Aug.29 at 5:19 pm
Hmm is he even gonna play in the league? The Knicks had the rights to him for much of the past decade anyway, and he didn’t come play. Would YOU play in the league after what happened?

  • WeS Posted: Aug.29 at 5:28 pm
I think people in both front offices just figured it would be funny. I mean, Houston is too deep to use Ewing, so what better place to send him than New York to follow in his dad’s footsteps? So Weis will just be buried on the Rockets roster now, rather than PE.
With Ewing coaching Yao, he probably made a phone call or something.
Also, cant wait for the Houston New Jersey game(s)… they have to make him active for that one.

  • Russ Bengtson Posted: Aug.29 at 5:43 pm
Highly unlikely that Weis joins the NBA at 31. Then again, Arvydas signed with the Blazers when he was 74. So anything can happen.

  • chiqo Posted: Aug.29 at 5:45 pm
houston must be really bored this offseason.

  • joe Posted: Aug.29 at 5:49 pm
I wonder if T-mac is going to invite Freddie Weis to his family reunion, as sort of a welcome- to- america/we will be your host family while your here kinda thing. i can just imagine tracy introducing Weis to his cousins {TMAC]”over there at the table are my cousins Sean,Jerome,Cynthia,Kevin, Denise, Lamar,Michael and the bald-headed-light-skinned-dude on the end is (music from Jaws begins)………………….Vince. Vince Carter!” Vince turns around and does a double take and as soon as vince spots Weis he slowly gets up and starts toward him. And at that moment Freddy Weis begins to have flashbacks, and starts sweating profusely, and once Vince is a leaps worth away, Fred Weis takes off like Usain Bolt in the opposite direction.

  • Hersey Posted: Aug.29 at 6:11 pm
    Weis is still alive?

  • Jackie Moon Posted: Aug.29 at 6:12 pm
    Patrick Ewing has a son?

  • Rubens Posted: Aug.29 at 6:24 pm
    Weis is still alive?

  • Patrick Lok Posted: Aug.29 at 6:29 pm
At least T-Mac has a reason to enter the dunk competition again.

  • adams Posted: Aug.29 at 7:19 pm
Hey, absolutely no one would make a trade to get Vince Carter, so I guess Weis beats him in that regard.

  • Teddy-the-Bear Posted: Aug.29 at 8:21 pm
Best of luck to Junior. His father played his heart out in our city, so big ups to Patrick Ewing. He really deserves to be in the Hall of Fame, so I’m glad he’s going to be inducted next week.

  • RV Posted: Aug.29 at 10:18 pm
Daryl Morey doesn’t trade out of boredom or entertainment, there was actually a point to this, at least from the Rockets’ end. NY just wants to sell tickets.

  • ThEAn$wEr3 Posted: Aug.29 at 10:35 pm
    Your mom has a moustache
    B>)

  • Hursty Posted: Aug.29 at 11:06 pm
C’mon RV, surely you can see the funny side of the trade. They aren’t going to bring him over we both know that dude.

  • Jukai Posted: Aug.29 at 11:50 pm
Joe, that scenario is pretty incredible!

  • knick Posted: Aug.30 at 1:52 am
hitorical trade, now the KNICKS are truly back

  • neaorin Posted: Aug.30 at 3:22 am
bwahahahahh no way this is for real… is it?

  • AB_40 Posted: Aug.30 at 3:40 am
so mike d’antoni is getting ewing junior ready to play in europe after next season haha.

  • Darksaber Posted: Aug.30 at 5:07 am
Vince, please give us the remix of “tell me how my n*ts taste. Puhleeeze.

  • david Posted: Aug.30 at 5:56 am
I bet Weis is going to be there for practices, letting everyone take turns trying to be like Vince.

  • Solito Posted: Aug.30 at 6:22 am
I think P.E. Jr. could become something special. He was never made for the J.T. Jr. offense at Georgetown. He’s made for the Pro-Game. Fred Wise… well, he found out way earlier, that he could make 20 time the cash in Europ then in the NBA.

  • diegoma77 Posted: Aug.30 at 8:18 am
it´s so funny…i mean, the american way of thinking…Patrick Ewing Jr can´t play for an spanish team as Frederic Weis do at the Moment in a team called “Iurbeitia bilbao” but he can play for New York Knicks…bollocks

  • fluxland Posted: Aug.30 at 9:30 am
@RV… yeah he trades in order to ensure first round exists for the next decade or so.

  • a_whiteman Posted: Aug.30 at 10:31 am
i wonder if t mac will jump over him in training camp…

  • BETCATS Posted: Aug.30 at 3:23 pm
he will never leave Euorpe. Fredric Weis’s contract is the new and more leaped over version of Terrel Brandon’s contract

  • Aaron Posted: Aug.30 at 11:50 pm
Clicked the link and it was just too funny. Couldn’t get past freddy before thanking you russ for bringing a smile to my face

  • RedRum Posted: Sep.1 at 12:22 am
Weis should never play in a league that has a player that can jump more than 15″. Just in case…

  • Hursty Posted: Sep.1 at 2:43 am
He better go to Indonesia or the South Pole then RedRum.

  • Gerard Himself Posted: Sep.1 at 9:16 am
    Ew: Da Man.

  • JB34 Posted: Sep.1 at 11:15 am
Best trade in NBA history…c’mon how can the Vince Carter for Eric Williams and Alonzo ‘im never going to Canada’ Mourning trade be over looked! NJ got a helluva deal…possibly even “The Greatest Trade in NBA History”!…but ya Weis, ouch!

  • Ben Posted: Sep.1 at 7:57 pm
It’sgood for Fred, he was gonna have to play VC like 4 times a season.

  • Hursty Posted: Sep.2 at 4:22 am
    JB34: sarcasm.
