Gerald Wallace: Trade Bait?

by Marcel Mutoni

Ever since he got the gig in Charlotte, Michael Jordan has repeatedly been accused of being more concerned with not missing his tee time, instead of running the Bobcats. And though that may very well be true, it doesn’t mean the man isn’t at least paying a little bit of attention to his woeful team.

Word on the street is that MJ is looking to make a big trade, one that would dramatically alter the look of the Charlotte Bobcats.

From Yahoo!:

As for the Bobcats roster, Larry Brown talked Michael Jordan out of trading forward Gerald Wallace over the summer, but that hasn’t stopped him from shopping him in the preseason, sources say.

Despite his propensity to get hurt, in frightening fashion no less, the freakishly athletic Wallace should have no trouble drawing interest around the League.

Should another League exec be willing to play ball with Mike, fans might not necessarily be happy with who the ‘Cats get in return for the 26-year old Wallace, but at least they now know that the guy in charge is at least showing up to the office once in a while.

I have a hard time believing LB wouldn’t be behind any trade that is made.

  • scott Posted: Oct.24 at 9:03 am
This could be very sad news for Betcats.

  • Hursty Posted: Oct.24 at 9:06 am
LB loves G-Force. I highly doubt that he would want to trade him. I want him to be traded though, a player of his calibre needs to get some shine on a contender.
    BETCATS?- truth please.

  • neaorin Posted: Oct.24 at 9:10 am
If the Bobcats are out of it by January, Wallace is gone. Book it. They gave too much money to Okafor and JRich to afford another season of sucking and I suspect GMs will want get a scorer and energy guy who’s just entering his prime. At least, I would.

  • Simon S.Y Lawy Posted: Oct.24 at 9:11 am
Larry brown is out of his mind…

  • jaywhy Posted: Oct.24 at 9:12 am
MJ is screwing this team apart… build around their current core and they would be a team to be reckoned with in the next 3 years… Felton should be the bait here since they already have Augustine…

  • Hursty Posted: Oct.24 at 9:23 am
Wallace is one of the best all-round players in the NBA right now. Better than Marion imo.

  • jay Posted: Oct.24 at 9:24 am
I like William Wallace better. He has more heart.

  • James aka the artist formerly known as Krayzie Bone Posted: Oct.24 at 9:38 am
He made 9.5 last year. Not an easy trade to make. Also, looking at his stats, because of his injuries, he seemed to catch vince carter syndrome last year (why get concussed when you can shoot a 3!).

  • Mo Charlo Posted: Oct.24 at 9:40 am
Gerald Wallace for Ben Wallace straight up.

  • Mo Charlo Posted: Oct.24 at 9:41 am
Hursty, I don’t know if he’s better than Marion, but he’s darn close at half the price. He also doesn’t demand that you trade him for Shaq.

  • Russ Bengtson Posted: Oct.24 at 9:48 am
I suppose Mike wouldn’t want Eddy Curry?

  • wiz Posted: Oct.24 at 9:53 am
Im trying to think who they could trade him for, if they trade him for marion then dam thats a steal for the heat, since no bobcat games come on tv anyways so i could careless i remember watching gerald wallace when he played for the kings he just always gets slept on. I would like to see a deal with cavs unlikely yes but hopefully

  • Hursty Posted: Oct.24 at 10:14 am
Marion doesnt even look like he wants to play right now. He hasn’t for the last year or so. Not trying anymore. Wallace goes hard every damn game and has the battle scars to prove it.
Besides, dude is 26 vs. Marions 31 (or is he older now)?

  • TADOne Posted: Oct.24 at 10:19 am
By concussions, Gerald is almost 40.

  • Eboy Posted: Oct.24 at 10:19 am
Michael and Riley are good friends….just saying.

  • Russ Bengtson Posted: Oct.24 at 10:33 am
Gerald and Dwyane on the same team? Yikes. One guy with no regard for his own life and limb is enough, don’t you think?

  • i'm special Posted: Oct.24 at 10:35 am
I got a good trade. they could try to trade him for josh howard since he is bringinig my mavs down. and g force could still start at SF

  • Eboy Posted: Oct.24 at 10:35 am
    F*ck it, live dangerously.

  • i'm special Posted: Oct.24 at 10:36 am
    what russ

  • i'm special Posted: Oct.24 at 10:36 am
    The Heat still suck

  • Big Boy Posted: Oct.24 at 10:37 am
    The Heat still suck.

  • BETCATS Posted: Oct.24 at 10:58 am
    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  • BETCATS Posted: Oct.24 at 11:00 am
if this happens, my name changes, my all bobcat jesersy go to the flea market, all the bobcats stuff goes to ebay, and my Bobcats team edition addias’s go to goodwiil. Trading our best player will get Mike assinated. Money is losing value, we need to stop this inflation by forcing Money into retirment.

  • BETCATS Posted: Oct.24 at 11:02 am
if trading wallace means that Mike showed up to work, he needs to take bed rest and forget the Bobcats ever exsisted.

  • BETCATS Posted: Oct.24 at 11:07 am
    “i’m special says:
I got a good trade. they could try to trade him for josh howard since he is bringinig my mavs down. and g force could still start at SF”
Keep ridding the short bus special man, we both know that aint happening

April Fools? Please tell me that wont happen. I hate Shawn Marion and if he comes to the Bobcats his ‘i dont give a sh!t, i think i am a star, give me super star money or i wont play hard, and your team cannot suck either or i will suck’ attitude would destroy the bobcats

  • BETCATS Posted: Oct.24 at 11:09 am
    “jaywhy says:
MJ is screwing this team apart… build around their current core and they would be a team to be reckoned with in the next 3 years… Felton should be the bait here since they already have Augustine…” Smartest comment i read so far

alright i am done here, i need to find my computer term deffinitions. Love, Peace, and Andrea Bargiani’s hair is made of greace!

  • Bro D. Posted: Oct.24 at 12:49 pm
Wallace is overrated, slightly. All I’m saying. Marion>Wallace, easily.

  • Moose Posted: Oct.24 at 12:56 pm
Bro D.: Wallace ain’t overrated, the dude is underrated.

  • Ryan.T. Posted: Oct.24 at 1:21 pm
Gerald Wallace IS one of the best ALL-AROUND players in the League. Alot of teams could use him. I don’t think trading him will help the Bobcats in any way what so ever. Trading Wallace at this point in time, would be just as bad as the time Jordan believed in Kwame. Let’s just say MJ doesn’t make the best decisions off the court.

  • Jeter Posted: Oct.24 at 2:05 pm
Gerald Wallace will fit well with the Pistons.

  • what Posted: Oct.24 at 3:10 pm
They need to trade Felton and Adam Morrison, possibly J-Rich too. Wallace and Okafor however injury prone they may be are the two players they should try to hang on to.

  • underdog Posted: Oct.24 at 4:38 pm
Now, that would be a bad move. Just like forget Gerald Wallace when you make a Top 50…

  • albie1kenobi Posted: Oct.24 at 4:55 pm
speaking of Jrich, i wonder how Mullin feels about the trade now. “fcuk fcuk sh!t Sh!t hell godd*mn it”, repeated about 5068 times probably about right.

  • Bro D. Posted: Oct.24 at 5:04 pm
Wallace can’t shoot, can’t create, not a great passer or dribbler, but he can jump really high, play passing lanes, play weak-side defense and hustle like a mofo. All I’m saying is he is NOT an All-Star caliber player, generally.

  • LA Huey Posted: Oct.24 at 5:45 pm
I’m not familiar with the work schedules of NBA GMs but is MJ’s work ethic in the front office any different from most execs in pro sports? I’m not trying to defend Jordan (because he’s done a lousy job) but just trying to be fair here.

  • BETCATS Posted: Oct.24 at 6:20 pm
LA, one of Jordan’s fave teammates Rod Higgins is our GM. Raise your hand if you knew that. And Bro D, dose the D in your name stand for Duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuur, because with all the Bobcat related comments you make, you continue to impress me with the advancement of mentally crippled people in our society. Keep on fighting Bro D.

BETkitty, why so testy? did I strike a nerve? I never said Wallace was a bad player, he just shouldn’t be heralded with other all-star SF’s. And I’m special ed? Coming from someone that wrote Ryan Hollins has potential? Potential what, D-league halftime entertainment? Potential to be waived for Andre Brown? C’mon mate, I’ve poured my soul into the Hornets and fully support these garishly clad ‘cats, so this is the last time i type with kids’ gloves on.

  • Teddy-the-Bear Posted: Oct.24 at 7:17 pm
Wallace to New York for Eddy Curry!!!!!!!!

  • BETCATS Posted: Oct.24 at 7:19 pm
you want to come at me Bro D.? First of all you said “Bro D. says:
Wallace can’t shoot, can’t create, not a great passer or dribbler, but he can jump really high” Translation: He is no Larry Bird, but he can jump from here to Africa! As for Ryan Hollins, maybe you never witnessed him play last year. He puts maximum effort onto the court and is doing what is expected of a 2nd round pick. He does have great potential, after all he will not be getting worse. Even last year Ryan was a valuble contributor off the bench and he is going to keep progressing and keep getting better. Larry Brown hates rookies, but loves to help devolp young talent. Ryan Hollins is young talent, and is not a rookie, so having Larry Brown as a coach will benifit him in a huge way.

  • BETCATS Posted: Oct.24 at 7:20 pm
Teddy, i bet you are finnaly happy that another team has a even stupidererer ex-Player turned owner/phantom GM than your knicks.

  • BETCATS Posted: Oct.24 at 7:27 pm
i just started the first ever argument between 2 bobcats fans. This a truly monumentous day.

  • KJ Posted: Oct.24 at 7:33 pm
Odom for Wallace. Do it Mitch!!!

  • Bro D. Posted: Oct.24 at 7:41 pm
Oh I’ve seen Ryan Hollins play, I’ve seen him look lost on offense until Felton penetrates and he gets an occasional alley-oop and I’ve seen him get into immediate foul trouble on defense. And I love Wallace’s hustle and D but he jacks up waaaayyy too many 3′s for someone that should drive at will. The other problem is that when he jumps he is just as likely to end up concussed than dunk on someone.

  • BETCATS Posted: Oct.24 at 7:50 pm
Bro D. that concusion came when Wallace was playing Power Forward and was being guarded by Mikki Moore. Of course thing werent gonna end well. The reason Gerald has been shooting too many 3′s last year was for 2 reasons. 1. He needs to get better at it to become a better overall player, not just somebody that “can jump high” and 2. to convince Sam Vincent to stop forcing him to play Power Forward (it didnt happen, and Gerald was forced to play out of postion with and eventually the world was introduced to Earl Boykins Shooting Guard edtion). Also Ryan is still learning, still needs time to develop. He was a 2nd round pick, and he may be offensivly challeged, BUT he still tries hard, and his O game will get better over the years, as will he.

I’m not defending Bro D, but it seems every team in the NBA has at least 1 player similar to how your describing Ryan Hollins??

  • Quail Posted: Oct.25 at 12:23 am
why are we arguin over the bobcats? seriously. they’re ok but they aint worth arguin over. jeez, calm down ppl.

  • airs Posted: Oct.25 at 12:12 pm
    who wants ben gordon!?!…
    …oh, nobody? really? PLEASE?

  • Bro D. Posted: Oct.25 at 1:15 pm
it doesn’t matter where he plays, with every concussion you become more likely to be concussed and so on, so the slightest contact to his dome will leave him on the floor eventually. I hate it cause he is fun as hell to watch but if we could trade him for a comparable big you would have to do it.

  • doyouwantmore Posted: Oct.26 at 5:08 am
What about Wallace for Francisco Garcia and change. I’m drunk and the idea just popped out of thin air but what the hell. I don’t know if the salaries match up but at least then Sacramento would have one guy that has more than a six-inch vertical…

  • Grant Bibby Posted: Oct.26 at 5:13 pm
    Mike Bibby is awsome

  • Mark Z Posted: Oct.27 at 8:18 am
GWallace strikes me as a very good 2nd or 3rd option on a playoff team.
He can’t log heavy minutes and be ‘the’ guy. That’s landed him on the Injured list (and the Lottery) how many years in a row?

  • Some Guy Posted: Nov.17 at 6:54 pm
    Gerald Wallace for Shawn marion

  • Difeug Posted: Nov.24 at 10:23 pm
It might be Wallace for Curry or something.
