Injuries to Webster and Fernandez Temper Blazer-Mania

by Marcel Mutoni

Following the team’s first exhibition game on Tuesday night, the excitement over the Portland Trailblazers’ potential was off the charts. Well, I think it’s safe to say that the mood is a tad more somber in the Portland region this morning.

Martell Webster, the man who was supposed to start at small forward, is expected to miss the next two months due to a stress fracture in his left foot. From The Oregonian:

Webster is expected to miss at least eight weeks — and potentially as many as 20 or 25 games — but an official timetable for his return will be determined Thursday after he undergoes further examination. The team has not yet determined if Webster will undergo surgery or simply rehabilitate his left foot.

As for Rudy, he was having himself a monster game against the Warriors last night, until he sprained his left ankle.

“When I saw Rudy go down, I thought maybe our luck is a little bad,” said Brandon Roy, who was given the night off. “I was like ‘Oh, not Rudy,’ especially on the heels of Martell. But, I don’t harp on it. We’ve got to play with what we’ve got. We can’t feel sorry for ourselves.”

Tears then began streaming down Brandon’s face, it was not necessarily reported.

Rudy will be okay, this will also help his development by getting more PT due to Martell’s injury so when he does come back the 3 spot is gonna be STRONG.

hahaha, I like how Martell injures himself and no one cares, but Fernandez goes down and Roy goes “NO! NOT RUDY!”
    Poor Webster.

Rudy is a way better passer than I thought. At least during meaningless preseason games.

  • Benoit Benjamin

Let the Batum era begin. the kid can flat-out ball.

outlaw was shatty last night. he bricked all his shots but one. he capped off his brilliant performance by getting swatted on one of his dunks. travis outlaw cannot play in a structured offense. he needs the ball to be effective.

The blazers will be a playoff team this year… At the expense of Denver or Dallas.

Don’t matter with the Balzers Youth movement, injuries are going to happen, Blazers are just in a position to recover and keep moving forward. Pre-Season and the beginning of the season are warm-ups and time to get the kinks out. Other teams would be devestated if one, let alone two players went down. This is time the bench and reserve players should use to get better and PAID. RIP CITY 2008-2009

People should not be worried…ya we have two potential starters injured, but look at it this way. We have all are starters from last year besides martell, and him outlaw pretty much split time anyway. Plus we could throw Bayless in there instead of Steve Blake if it comes to that.

  • jrp14

    ….Damn we’re deep

  • riggs

DAMN i forgot all about bayless too

  • Joey Jo Jo

    Not Lenny…I mean Rudy!

Stop this. Stop this at once.

this team when their key players are completely healthy will be one of the top teams in the L
think about greg oden when he fully develops his skills and learns to play with this team
theyre gonna be dominant for the next decade

  • The Ghost of Wilt Chamberlain

By far the most overrated team in the L at the moment. This is a young, injury prone team which has never accomplished anything together. Everyone talks about up-side and potential, but I can’t even remember the last time someone labelled with the “potential” sticker came remotely close to being a standout player. I predict that the team will struggle mightily and there will be quite a few trades next offseason with minimal return.
