Rule no. 1 for the Bulls: Derrick Rose Shall Not Be Hazed

Derrick Rose isn’t your typical rookie. Judging by his ultra-confident demeanor, it’s easy not to think of him as one, and his teammates don’t certainly treat him like a lowly first year player.

As one of the leaders on the team, Rose has managed to avoid the hazing that most NBA rookies must endure from teammates. From the Sun-Times:

Is Rose getting the star treatment from his teammates?

”We can’t throw too much at him because he’s starting right now and playing a big role,” forward Drew Gooden said. ”With some of those bottom-of-the-barrel rookies, you can kind of take more advantage of them. ‘Derrick Rose, slowly but surely when he finds his role, we’ll have him doing some chores.”

I wouldn’t be so sure about that, Drew. This Rose kid is pretty damn good. If you’re not careful, you might end up being the one carrying his bags.

    I always wonder about this stuff, because some of these vets have to still have that jock mentality where they feel they have to push the new guys around, no matter who they are. You’d have to inevitably get the hotshot rookie who basically did the same stuff to everyone else his whole life butting heads with the senior jock. Then, I’d imagine, someone gets laid out in the first week of training camp.

    THis comment is for BETCATS. How can you say deng and rose are the only reason the bulls are worth watching. Gooden is atarting to consistently score 18. Thomas is starting his average double doubles and gordon as much as i hate the guy is still scoring around 20 off the bench

    I don’t like the idea of rookie hazing, it should be the person with the biggest salery, make them earn it. it could give Marbury a reason for his exsistence.

    The Bulls don’t have typical veterans, either. Their longest-tenured player is Kirk Hinrich and their oldest player is Larry Hughes. Not many potential hazers in that bunch.

    Classic Gooden: “Bottom of the barrel rookies…” I bet some of his former coaches and teammates would put him in that category after being drafted 4th overall.

    Rose, on the other hand, looks like the real deal. He blew by the Celtics D last nihgt multiple times. If Rose can get his passing game going (or will his teammates to actually hit some shots) he’ll be deadly.

    This is lame. even Barkley was hazed as a rookie; Mind you it was by Dr.J and Moses Malone. I haven’t seen Rose but I’d be surprised if he’s that good.

    Bulls need an overhall… Only people worth keeping are DRose, Deng, Gordon, Sefalosha, maybe nocioni… They have some tradeable assets and should get working…
