SLAM Radio: The Most Unlikely Preseason Venue

It’s not in Europe or Asia, either…

by Ryne Nelson

So close yet so far. You hear the platitude all the time, but in Chris O’Leary’s case, there’s some real meaning behind it. The NBA came to Edmonton, Alberta (a diehard hockey city; not a potentially strong basketball market) last week for the first time since 1999, and he didn’t miss a second. In this episode, we discuss what it’s like to no longer be watching from afar.

“I’m Ryne Nelson, and I want to think of your very first love ;) ” Great podcast but I had to giggle at that start! Same voice as somebody who might say “This ones for all the ladies listening ;)

Ryne sounds like he is auditioning for a slow jam R&B station.

I was going to say. If this post wasn’t about Edmonton, then it’s wrong. Hahaha. It’s in Canada boomdizzle.

Haha. No more R&B voice next week.

3 places worth going to in Canada. Banff Springs, Niagra Falls, and Toronto. The rest…Meh.

    Niagra

  • thesubwayconnection

That’s cold, B. Long. But then, so is Canada.

Haha! I loved the “R&B” voice too, Ryne! You sounded a lot like those late-night DJ’s you hear in the wee small hours of the morning after a night of uh, debauchery. Somehow pulled it off though! Great listen, hahaha. “I want you to imagine fallin’ in love with something for the very first time” really cracked me up, heh.

    B. Long you obviously haven’t been to Montreal… the Europe of North America.

The mismanagement by owners who sold to Heisley (I think Arthur Griffiths’ group), Heisley, and Stu Jackson’s general incompetence are the reasons why the NBA left Vancouver.

Ah but if they had traded down and drafted Nash in their first year? Who knows what might have happened…

  • http://www.cossette.com Patrick

Stu Jackson’s selection of Big Country wasn’t all that bad, considering the other popular options for the draft slot were Ed “2 seasons” O’Bannon, Cherokee Parks (who ended up in Vancouver later, oops), and Corliss Williamson.

@ Blong … shut up!! Tdot sucks balls!!

  • Teddy-the-Bear

@ James: Shut the f*ck up, Toronto is the best city in Canada. And its not called T-Dot, unless its said by a dumb, poser @ss wannabe rapper like Belly or some sh!t. To spell it out for your idiotic self, that makes you a wankster, James.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

@ B. Long: Watch your trap. Certain places in Canada are not worth going to, yes, but its the same in America. Alberta is pretty nice.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

    Chris is from Alberta!

    @Teddy – your mothers a wh0re!!
@teddy – TDOT is terrible, the people are rude as f()ck, everyone tries to impress each other with high fashion, expensive EVRYTHING, make up and fakeness. The place disgusts me.
@teddy – im going to impregnate your sister through the a$$hole!
