So close yet so far. You hear the platitude all the time, but in Chris O’Leary’s case, there’s some real meaning behind it. The NBA came to Edmonton, Alberta (a diehard hockey city; not a potentially strong basketball market) last week for the first time since 1999, and he didn’t miss a second. In this episode, we discuss what it’s like to no longer be watching from afar.

    Haha! I loved the “R&B” voice too, Ryne! You sounded a lot like those late-night DJ’s you hear in the wee small hours of the morning after a night of uh, debauchery. Somehow pulled it off though! Great listen, hahaha. “I want you to imagine fallin’ in love with something for the very first time” really cracked me up, heh.

    B. Long you obviously haven’t been to Montreal… the Europe of North America.

    The mismanagement by owners who sold to Heisley (I think Arthur Griffiths’ group), Heisley, and Stu Jackson’s general incompetence are the reasons why the NBA left Vancouver.

    Ah but if they had traded down and drafted Nash in their first year? Who knows what might have happened…

    Stu Jackson’s selection of Big Country wasn’t all that bad, considering the other popular options for the draft slot were Ed “2 seasons” O’Bannon, Cherokee Parks (who ended up in Vancouver later, oops), and Corliss Williamson.
