Inactive Stephon Considers Practicing With High Schoolers

    by Marcel Mutoni

Stephon Marbury is a pretty bored dude of late. Not only is he not playing during Knicks games, but he’s made the decision not to even fully participate in the practices. He claims that he sits out team scrimmages to let the other guards get the practice, since they’re the only ones getting playing time anyway.

To keep himself occupied, Marbury wants to run with his old high school team. From the NY Daily News:

“I think I’m going to start practicing with my high school team,” Marbury said after practice Thursday in Greenburgh. “Seriously. I’ve already called the coach to see if I can run up and down with the guys and at the same time help teach the younger guys the NBA game.”

If he does I’d be excited about it and I know the kids would be delighted,” Lincoln High coach Dwayne Morton said. “I know he’s thinking about it.”

Sadly for Steph and the players at the school, it appears as though the move will not happen. The Knicks were unlikely to allow it, and Steph elected not to cause even more headaches by pushing the issue.

Mike D’Antoni recently informed the media that since this entire matter is “resolved”, the Marbury story would simply go away. But as anyone with half a brain could’ve told the coach, that’s obviously not going to happen anytime soon.

      Just let the guy play

    • mookie Posted: Nov.7 at 9:09 am
Go on Steph, get with the high school kids, it will bring back memories of when you used to be a player.

    • vtrobot Posted: Nov.7 at 9:17 am
i’ve loved the knicks for a long time and i’ve never been a fan of steph’s but this is getting stupid. play him. i can’t think of a scenario where someone would pay more and get less. this is just silly now.

    • Westy00 Posted: Nov.7 at 9:25 am
I don’t get it either. If they aren’t going to play him, cut him. I don’t see the point of having his large contract eating away with no return. Bizarre.

    • jmoon Posted: Nov.7 at 9:32 am
stick it to the man, d’antoni.

    • jay Posted: Nov.7 at 9:38 am
      FREE STEPHON MARBURRY!

    • jay Posted: Nov.7 at 9:38 am
      MARBURY

    • Peter Robert Casey Posted: Nov.7 at 9:38 am
He’ll be battling Lance Stephenson in practice everyday. It’ll make Lance tougher.

    • Jukai Posted: Nov.7 at 9:47 am
      FREE STARBURY!

    • B. Long Posted: Nov.7 at 9:49 am
I love ya Steph, but your no Brett Favre.

    • Bryan Posted: Nov.7 at 10:01 am
I just read an article talking about how the knicks need a pure scorer. Hmm where can they find one?

    • B. Long Posted: Nov.7 at 10:16 am
      LMAO@Bryan.

    • Tommy Patron Posted: Nov.7 at 10:19 am
Doesn’t anyone else think find it funny that, even though Zeke’s gone, the Knicks still seem like they’re being run by oujia board?

    • mike Posted: Nov.7 at 10:23 am
The Knicks are doing the right thing. Too many cancers on that team and getting rid of Marbury and Curry would be a good start. Play Gallo!

    • Nguni Posted: Nov.7 at 10:26 am
they just need to let this guy go. Anyone that has seen Knicks play the past 2/3 yrs knows he is not good for the team. They not playing him so they shud just cut him. Fu*k the money.

    • Torrance Posted: Nov.7 at 10:32 am
Would be awesome if he’d go to a high school pick-up game and then get benched the whole time.

    • jay Posted: Nov.7 at 10:46 am
      FREE Zack Marbury too!

    • Mo Charlo Posted: Nov.7 at 10:46 am
He’s going to teach the hs kids to not get wrapped up in the game, but get wrapped up in life. Also, if he doesn’t go to Italy soon, I’m going to start calling Steph a liar.

    • Keith Posted: Nov.7 at 10:52 am
Steph deserves better treatment than this.

    • jay Posted: Nov.7 at 10:53 am
Free all the Marbury’s the world over!

    • Torrance Posted: Nov.7 at 11:00 am
Steph has always been an overrated, overpaid and egocentric hassle. Saying he deserves better than this is a joke. There are 6 billion people that deserve better than this. Act like a 21 mil. player, you wuss.

    • jay Posted: Nov.7 at 11:03 am
      Steph for president!

    • Ball Dont Lie Posted: Nov.7 at 11:12 am
      LEAVE STEPH ALONE

    • henry Posted: Nov.7 at 12:30 pm
      free telfair

    • mike Posted: Nov.7 at 12:32 pm
He’s also going to give all the kids on the team some really cheap ass sneakers.

    • Rubens Posted: Nov.7 at 12:33 pm
as I said before: Free Starbury!!!

    • Diggy Posted: Nov.7 at 12:47 pm
At first it made sense, but now it is plain ol ridiculous! Cut him or play him…

    • Allenp Posted: Nov.7 at 1:13 pm
      This whole situation is shady.

    • Chris Ujma Posted: Nov.7 at 1:13 pm
this news about practice would have been better delivered through an Allen Iverson style press conference. disappointing way to get your point across, Steph

    • j Posted: Nov.7 at 1:44 pm
Let him practice, let him get hurt, then when he does get hurt treat him like Monta, suspend him for voiding contract and recoup money.

    • Ryan Posted: Nov.7 at 1:54 pm
Why not play, trade or release Marbury? Having him on the roster but not active only serves to get these types of articles in the NY papers.

    • Konate Primus Posted: Nov.7 at 3:33 pm
told u Thomas wasn’t the problem.

    • Ryan.T. Posted: Nov.7 at 3:38 pm
What did Marbury do to get this kind of treatment from D’Antoni?? It seems everybody keeps bringing up situations from when Larry Brown was still coach. From what I was reading prior to the regular season, Marbury was taking the right steps toward being a better teammate and player. I hope the Knicks lose more games this year than last just because of this whole situation.

      STABURY!!!STARBURY!!!STARBURY!!!STARBURY!!!

    • Double R Posted: Nov.7 at 6:13 pm
Any chance this song: http://www.zedge.net/videos/98791/the-rose-family-guy-video/ plays in Marbury’s head while he is seating on the bench.

    • davidR Posted: Nov.7 at 6:13 pm
      setting a 21m example?

    • Harlem_World Posted: Nov.7 at 6:33 pm
Need to let him go. Nate has been flourishing with Steph out. However, it makes NO sense to just keep him inactive like this. The only thing they are doing is being spiteful. Let him go…

    • Teddy-the-Bear Posted: Nov.7 at 7:45 pm
JUST TRADE STARBURY ALREADY. DON’T TORTURE THE MAN BY GLUING HIM TO THE BENCH, THEN PAYING HIM THE MOST MONEY OUT OF THE ENTIRE ROSTER.
Definitely keep Eddy Curry benched, though. Zach Randolph and David Lee be durrty.

    • diego Posted: Nov.7 at 9:24 pm
      aguante marbury viejaa!

    • Hursty Posted: Nov.7 at 10:17 pm
What happened to Tiny Morton? Same dude?

    • Hursty Posted: Nov.7 at 10:21 pm
      Yep same dude.

    • CARTEL Posted: Nov.7 at 10:41 pm
man…just put the man in a damn game already!!!…the knicks are already payin the man 21mil, the least he can do is SCORE 4 the knicks!!!…and seems 2 want 2 do that…look, yeah i believe steph should play somewhere else but as long as he is being paid, i cant see why he cant get a few minutes on the court…i was @ the charolette game @ the garden and all people kept screamin was PUT STEPH IN THE GAME!!!…and the only person on the knicks that i feel has absolutely have 2 go is EDDY CURRY…

    • Zero Posted: Nov.8 at 1:46 am
Wow, lucky for the Giants…unless they sit Eli, and they already sat Burress.

    • clos1881 Posted: Nov.8 at 2:31 am
steph is my favorite player in the leauge, and his situation with knicks is the dumbest move ever your trying to get rid of distractions but you creating them by having steph on the team but not letting play either way it goes they gotta pay him so let him so both sides can move.

    • Nikos Hatzixretas Posted: Nov.8 at 3:15 am
It should have been illegal for “STARBURY!!!” to be around people under 18….
@starbury&stevey: prepei na eisai apo tous elaxistous ellines katw twn 40 pou den exoun idea apo mpasket….

    • Jaylen Rose Posted: Nov.8 at 4:19 am
love D’Antoni and his style- but starbury is just that, a star and needs to play he’s one of the best guards going……..

    • Crook Posted: Nov.8 at 7:06 am
The Knicks franchise is and has been rather dumb but they are doing what they feel will help. How can you trade someone when no one is biting YET? Zeke is my man but he was horrible at making decisions (all guard team..come on) Through cntractual obligations he can not practice with a hs team and Marbury knows that, he is just trying to keep his name in the media and relevent.
You can take the kid out of Coney Island but you can’t take Coney Island out of the kid..wait a minute, the kid went back to Coney Island. darn

    • nastierthanyou Posted: Nov.8 at 1:05 pm
Lebrons $114, Jordans$300, Starburys $15 Steph is still a 1st ballot hall of famer in my book.

    • Kenny Anderson's Auditor Posted: Nov.8 at 10:13 pm
I dont think Steph would crack Tiny’s rotation this season. LOL.

    • Peter Robert Casey Posted: Nov.8 at 10:40 pm
This idea just got shot down by management.

    • ab_40 Posted: Nov.9 at 3:17 pm
let him go to Italy already

    • e.m. Posted: Nov.9 at 11:19 pm
he should at least have been given a chance…now d’antoni will never publically admit he was wrong. it’s too pressing of an issue, having a 20 million dollar man sitting on the bench. the team members themselves must have some thoughts on this… marbury could definitely help d’antoni bring success to the knicks what a phenomenal waste of money and talent…

    • Russ Bengtson Posted: Nov.10 at 7:57 am
      4 and 2.

    • kev Posted: Nov.10 at 10:56 am
      he was always overrated

    • J Buckets Posted: Nov.10 at 11:54 pm
The Knicks are doing fine without Steph as a New Yorker and a Knick fan its a bad look that the wont play Brooklyn’s own but, I guess they are keeping him on the roster to sweeten any deals when the trade deadline comes around

    • Dacre Posted: Nov.11 at 12:20 am
