Nellie Vows to Trade Harrington, Take Away His Minutes

    by Marcel Mutoni

Don Nelson acknowledged that the Warriors’ front-office is working the phones in an attempt to trade away the clearly unhappy Al Harrington, and in the meantime, the head coach is going to focus on developing Harrington’s replacement.

It’s your time to shine, Brandan Wright. From Inside the Warriors:

“I made a deal with him that I was going to play him as many minutes as he would want and I would have kept that word. But when he surprised me with going public with wanting to be traded, it’s made it pretty difficult for me and everybody else.”

“Now I’m only going to bring the guys along that are ready to play in an NBA game, so don’t get me wrong. And as I said before the game, Brandan is ready. I’ve held him back a few games where he probably should have played, but I think it’s to the point now where he needs to grow into his position and he’s going to be a member of our team and Al isn’t. So we have to face reality and go from there.”

Ouch. The only thing Nellie didn’t add was for the door not to hit Al on his way out of town.

Exactly how benching Harrington in favor of a second-year player will help his trade value, though, is anyone’s guess. But hey, no need to fret, as that philosophy seems to be working out alright for the Knicks with their unwanted players.

      first! Harrington for Starbury!

    • mookie Posted: Nov.6 at 9:11 am
The day they bring in performance based contracts in the NBA is the day they solve a lot of problems in the league. Imagine… – you would not have Al Harrington sulking whilst wanting to get traded, as he would have to keep his production up to get paid – you would not have guys like Starbury hamstringing your payroll whilst sitting – Jerome James would be working security at WalMart Of course, some players would complain that they were not getting the minutes to perform; that’s fine. Make the payments have some type of per-minute basis. I’m just saying.

there’s no way any player’s union would go for anything like that. honestly, it’d be unfair to players. contracts that are more similar to the nfl’s may be the way to go.

Before Eboy asks, Marion makes twice the amount of Harrington.

@mookie: performance based contracts and team sports do not merge. You can never reward the little things some players do to make a good team great, on and off the court.

They just drafted a forward who shoots jumpers all game , they can’t trade for another Tad. If they get rid of Marion it better be for someone who can rebound the ball.

Marcel you’re right about sitting Al Harrington not improving his trade value but so is Al saying that he wanted to be traded. Now teams know that Nellie more or less has to trade him so they can give him low ball offers.

what is BETcats talkin about? felton is better than harrington. he cant help the bobcats what they need is production from emeka or a miracle.

Harrington to the Nets for Carter

    • Mike Posted: Nov.6 at 3:55 pm
The Lakers won’t do something as a stupid as trading LO for Harrington..

    • alx Posted: Nov.6 at 5:28 pm
I think the Warriors are gonna trade Al for an expiring contract(s). There is no way the Warriors will get anyone they would actually want without giving up anyone else in addition to Al.

    • ciolkstar Posted: Nov.6 at 6:37 pm
What a mess! Nellie’s gonna need a drink soon…Brandon Wright did look good though. Man, I was hoping we’d see some of Anthony Randolph. I wanna see him and JaVale McGee in a fight.

    • DD Posted: Nov.6 at 6:44 pm
al harrington is overrated and has no perimeter game at all. LO on the other hand has been averaging ridiculous field goal % this season and putting up a good amount of points (15.4) and boards (8).

      Eric Snow for Al Harrington

    • Quail Posted: Nov.6 at 10:18 pm
ummm… Al Harrington does have a perimeter game and LO only has great numbers now cuz its the beginning of the season. 10 bucks says that by the end of the season, LO is a 10 and 5 guy.

      what happened to bellinelli?

    • [...] Al Harrington has now asked for a trade, and it looks like the Warriors are going to accommodate that request. He’s out indefinitely with a phantom back injury, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he never plays another minute in a Warriors uniform. [...]

harrington got a nice ass jumper and he plays with a ton of heart,,,unfortunately nobody is gonna give the warriors for him,,,ANTHONY MORROW BITCHES!!!
