The Post Up: Hornets top Nuggets

And Iverson skips practice

It was a quiet night in the NBA last night with only two games on the schedule for Thanksgiving evening. I hope you all had lots and lots of food and were nursing a food coma while watching basketball.

I had a wonderful evening and attended the book signing of my friend’s sister. It is always great to see someone celebrating accomplishment, especially so when it is something that you pray will be in your own future.

Trouble in paradise with Iverson skipping practice. Here is hoping he takes the fine and the punishment of not starting (and potentially not playing, although I think Curry will use him in their game tonight), in stride.

From Chris O’Leary: You know a move is sick when the guy misses the layup and they still show the move seven times.

This is in reference to a move from Chris Paul. Sick. Ridiculous. Yeah, sounds like CP3.

I picked up the new issue of SLAM today, but haven’t been able to read the cover stories yet. Or that piece on Caron that Caputo wrote. Looking forward to all three. The covers look so crisp in person. I’m a fan, although I still can’t believe we’ve got a Jazz guy in a Utah jersey on the front.

The New Orleans/Denver game was a good one and the ending was a bit wild. For a moment, it looked as though the two teams were competing to see who could throw the game away first, then they each threatened to steal the victory with the Hornets coming out on top.

See Kenyon Martin kick the scorer’s table? That looked like it hurt. Does that warrant a technical, though? I guess so, but I feel like Kenyon has all eyes on him when it comes to tech’s.

JR Smith drops in 32 points last night. Of course he was sitting on the bench of my fantasy team. Dammit.

I know it’s early, but Chris Bosh is the second leading scorer in the L right now. Crazy. I’m going to enjoy it while it lasts.

New Orleans 105 Denver 101

In a game that ended up going down to the wire, the Nuggets collapsed in the final two minutes, allowing a three-pointer from Peja Stojakovic then a free-throw from Peja after a technical was called on Kenyon Martin and then another three from James Posey to seal the victory. While the Hornets led most of the way through and went ahead by as many as 14 points, JR Smith poured in 32 points as he attempted to lead the Nuggets back into the game. Chris Paul ensured that the Nuggets would not come away victorious as he scored 13 of his 22 points in the final period and the Hornets made their free throws down the stretch to protect the victory. Paul also had 10 assists on the night while Rasual Butler scored 19 points and Stojakovic added 17. Besides Smith’s 32 points off of the bench, Carmelo Anthony scored 24 points while Chauncey Billups added 12 points on the night.


Orlando 105 Washington 90

While the Wizards were able to take down the Warriors by 24 on Tuesday night, they could do no such thing last night against the Magic, losing 105-90. While the Magic were playing in the second night of a back to back where they managed to pull out a victory over Philly, they looked like the rested team against the Wizards as Dwight Howard stuffed the stats sheet again, putting in 26 points, 14 rebounds and 3 more blocked shots. While Washington threw many bodies at Howard, none could contain him and the Magic led 55-44 after pouring in a 38-point first quarter. Their lead swelled to as many as 22 points late in the third and they were able to continue to roll from there. Besides Dwight, Hedo Turkoglu scored 20 points to go with 10 rebounds, Mickael Pietrus and Rashard Lewis each added 17 points. Caron Butler led the Wizards with 26 points while Antawn Jamison scored 17 points to go with 12 rebounds in the loss.

    also the day after thanksgiving sales were A++++. I got some bright a$$ Orange Kool Aid Reebok kicks for $18 at Ross’s!!!! And some Red/Black/crazy pattern Pony’s for $15! I am gonna be bargin mackin back at school. THANK GOD FOR THAT PLACE.

    Mickael Pietrus was a great pickup for the Magic. He’s such a good player right now for Orlando, that I applaud their GM. Really, just watch the man play ball.

    Man the Nuggets should have won that game last night. Trust George Karl to take out J.R Smith with 1.17 to and put in Anthony F***ing Carter. George Karl is seriously a friggin idiot. Why did he take out his best player on the night and replace him with a turnover-machine-defensive-liability-all-around-crap-ball-player? MAN I HATE GEORGE KARL. FIRE THE MOTHER****ER!!!!!!

    Bosh. He looks to be transformed. I caught him against New Jersey. He was all over the place, affecting every facet of the game. True, it was only the Nets, but still…. Bosh looks like a legitimate MVP candidate.
