The Post Up: Lakers And Celtics Still Look Good

Iverson’s chillbumps. Atlanta’s winning ways. The NBA is in full swing.

by Holly MacKenzie

Good Morning, SLAM-fam. Hope you all had a wonderful weekend. I know I did. Between basketball and spending a whole lot of time getting back into that beautiful thing called reading (about things other than basketball), I am a happy girl this morning.

Before we get into NBA, I feel like I need to share this because it made my Sunday. I’m sitting in a Starbucks that is on the second floor of a bookstore. The atmosphere is great, I’m doing some research for a piece before I crack open one of the five (!), books I bought the night before and a little girl comes over and taps my leg. Before I know what is happening, she tells me her name is Allie and she says, “youtube. Volcano, youtube.” Her father came over and apologized, telling me they watched Madagascar that morning and he took her to the store to find a book about volcanoes and then promised he would show her a movie clip when they got home.

She may have been four at the very oldest. I say no problem, search youtube and find a couple of volcano clips as Allie decides we are best friends and gives me a hug. When the first two videos are over, she points to one of the related videos and says, “click.” Of course, this one ends up being 4:07 seconds of lava glowing and crackling.

While the video is playing her father says, “Allie, look! That volcano is in Hawaii. Why did we go to Hawaii?” And then, the little girl looks up at her dad, eyes shining and says deliberately, “O-Bam-A”.” Best moment of my day, by far.

And while I was watching volcanoes erupt, Chris Bosh was erupting for 30 and 15 to get the Raptors the win in Charlotte.

One more non-NBA related note: Congratulations to Western on winning the Yates Cup. One more week, one more game. Leave nothing.

Have I mentioned yet that I have fallen in love with football? I’ve even been doing some youtubing of my own, watching old Nike football commercials. Yes, I know this is a A little undefeated-ness.little over the top. Blame it on Hard Knocks. Or Sam and the Giants.

Can we just talk about the Hawks for a moment. Congrats, Lang and crew. Your guys look great. Crazy, isn’t it?

Now, can we just talk about the Lakers for two moments. Holy Mother of God, they look good. Scary, good. To be down 16 points to the Rockets and then just as easily, just as swiftly, defeat them by 29… How does that even happen? How are these boys diving, racing, sprinting down the floor with two minutes remaining and the lead at 30? I am in love with this team, this bench, this franchise. I still cannot get over how young a freshly shaven Phil looks.

Wow. The Lakers are officially scary. And TMac? 1-11 for three points? Yeesh.

Seeing Allen Iverson so hyped up for his first game in Detroit was amazing. 13 years in and he is still jumping and smiling and “whoooing” himself all over the place. Too bad Celtics had to come in and ruin his “chillbumps”.

I was pretty rattled seeing Stuckey leave the game after motioning towards his chest to his trainer last night. Sending thoughts his way as I pray it was nothing serious.

I’m pulling with all of my might for these young’ns in Golden State. Last night Jax was the only guy on the court who was over 25. With Harrington’s “ailing back”, my heart is ailing as the guys are trying their best to figure it out. Wright, Randolph, Morrow. Nelson, Watson, Williams. They’ve got a mishmash of guys and they certainly have heart.

To echo everyone else of late, Jason Thompson is very nice.

Houston’s defense looks very, very, very good. Just wait until they get Battier back. Still, I don’ think it would have helped them against this Laker squad last night.

Ohhh, yes. Bron, 41 over Chicago. Devin Harris spoiling the Pistons night in New Jersey with a career-high 38. Dwight Howard continuing to be a beast. How sweet it is, seeing Dwyane flirt with the trple-double. Phoenix giving Shaq the “game off” and the Suns getting blown out in Chicago. It was a busy weekend.

Also, Chris Paul is so good at basketball it isn’t fair, but it’s beautiful.

Okay, game notes, you’ve got a lot of them coming and some to catch up on from the weekend. Be sure to check them out so you get all of the pre and postgame stuff and behind the scenes info.

LA Lakers 111 Houston 82

There really isn’t a lot to say about this game other than the fact that the Rockets came out strong and were up by as many as 16 points in the first half before the Lakers became the Lakers again and shot nearly 66% in the second half of the game on their way to a 45-point turnaround as they absolutely annihilated the Rockets. The strangest part of the game was that Houston didn’t appear to be playing that badly, LA was just playing effortless basketball. The Lakers ourscored the Rockets 39-17 in the final quarter as their guys ran full out on ever possession, even when up by 30. Kobe Bryant finished with 23 points, Pau Gasol had 20 points and 15 rebounds, Jordan Farmar added 16 points and 6 assists and Andrew Bynum scored 13. Aaron Brooks led the way for the Rockets as he had 20 points off of the bench while Luis Scola and Yao Ming each added 12 and the Lakers held McGrady to only 3 points on 1-11 shooting.

Atlanta 89 Oklahoma City 85

Even without Josh Smith, the Atlanta Hawks were able to hold on and hold off the Thunder in order to stay undefeated and move to 5-0 on the season. While the Hawks led early, it was Oklahoma who took control for much of the fourth quarter, going ahead by as many as seven points, matching their largest lead of the game, before Atlanta began their comeback. Keyed by tough defense to shut down the Oklahoma offense, the Hawks went on a 12-2 run as the Thunder did not score for over five minutes. After going scoreless for half of the final period, the Hawks were in control and were able to grind out the win, joining the Lakers as the only other unbeaten team in the league. Joe Johnson led the Hawks with 25 points as Marvin Williams scored 16, Flip Murray added 14 and Al Horford had 8 points to go along with 12 rebounds and 5 blocked shots. Kevin Durant scored 20 points for the Thunder who also had 15 points from rookie Russell Westbrook and 14 points and 9 rebounds from Joe Smith in the loss.

Toronto 89 Charlotte 79

This was a game that was close throughout. While the Raptors were able to create space and run away late, it was the Bobcats who were in control early and led at the half by five, 45-40. Things started to open up for the Raptors in the second half when they started moving the ball around and finding their open guy, who, more often than not, was Chris Bosh. When the Bobcats opened up their largest lead of the game, going up 11 late in the third quarter, the Raptors knew they needed to get the game under control and finished the period on a 16-9 run that took them into the fourth trailing only 67-64. In the final period, Charlotte tried to keep the game close, but the play of Bosh and Andrea Bargnani who came off of the bench made it difficult, and the Raptors went up by as many as 15 in the period before holding off the Bobcats for the victory as they outscored Charlotte 26-12 in the fourth. Bosh led the way with 30 points and 15 rebounds as Bargnani added 18 off of the bench and Jose Calderon scored 13 points to go with 7 assists. Rookie DJ Augustin led the Bobcats with 14 points off of the bench as Jason Richardson and Raymond Felton each added 12 in the loss.

LA Clippers 103 Dallas 92

After starting their season 0-6, the Los Angeles Clippers have shaken that pressure off of the backs and grabbed a win. Coming against the Dallas Mavericks, Baron Davis and Al Thornton combined to put in games that resulted in a victory and a boost for their fans who have hopes of seeing more of the duo outdoing their opponents as the season presses on. The game last night was not an easy win for LA, and it was a close battle until the fourth where they used a 13-0 run to shake off the Mavericks and go on to win. The run started after a time out when the Mavericks had tied the game up at 79 all and finished with the Clippers grabbing that first W. Davis had 22 points and 10 assists for LA, as Thornton scored 17 and both Cuttino Mobley and rookie Eric Gordon each added 11. Dirk Nowitzki led the Mavs with 33 points as Gerald Green had 13 points and 12 rebounds starting for the injured Josh Howard and Jerry Stackhouse added 10 points off of the bench.

Sacramento 115 Golden State 98

Golden State’s youth movement was on fully display last night as the Warriors went down big, watching a six-point halftime deficit balloon into a 20-point blowout midway through the third quarter After fighting through the first half, the Golden State offense went stale in the third as they were outscored 27-17 and went into the fourth down by 16. It was here that Coach Nelson decided to give the young guys some burn, mostly keeping his starters on the bench the rest of the way through. The final quarter was a good learning experience for the Warriors, in a game that they just were not able to take control of. It was a good victory for the Kings, who had been winless on the road to open the season. Kevin Martin went down for Sacramento in the third with an ankle sprain and will be day-to-day. He had 27 points when he went down as Brad Miller contributed 14 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists. John Salmons scored 16 points and Spencer Hawes added 13 points and 10 rebounds off of the bench. Andris Biedrins had 16 points, 18 rebounds and 5 blocked shots for the Warriors, Stephen Jackson scored 15 points and Kelenna Azubuike added 12.

I hope Stuckey’s okay. Joe Johnson makes me happy :)

  • Eboy Posted: Nov.10 at 9:06 am
Impressive game for the Lake Show. Good for the Hawks, too. This is going to be an odd season, to say the least.

  • Nguni Posted: Nov.10 at 9:22 am
thought the hawks were gon’ go down without Josh, bt they showed they for real.

  • Holly MacKenzie Posted: Nov.10 at 9:23 am
Hawks have seriously impressed. Last night was great.

  • TADOne Posted: Nov.10 at 9:29 am
The initial prognosis on Stuckey is that he had a reaction to some allergy medication. Hopefully, that is all it is.

  • Eboy Posted: Nov.10 at 9:32 am
TAD, just to be a little smug, Curry needs to get on the ball with his rotations and sh*t. As flat as the Pistons were yesterday, he needed to shake out the lineup a little and he did nothing except sit on his ass while they were getting roped. Sh*tty.

  • Ryne Nelson Posted: Nov.10 at 9:34 am
Allergies at this time of the year can be just as bad as during the spring time. I couldn’t imagine struggling with that and then medication making things worse. As TAD said, hopefully Stuckey will be feeling better soon.

  • brian scalabrine Posted: Nov.10 at 9:35 am
personaly i dont care if stuckey lives i just like cake

  • Ken Posted: Nov.10 at 9:36 am
If you like football commercials, youtube “terry tate: office linebacker.” You won’t be disappointed.

  • TADOne Posted: Nov.10 at 9:39 am
E, Curry is still getting his feet wet with this whole coaching thing. Honestly, I didn’t see the game yesterday, so I can’t comment. But I do know that he has been liberal with playing time in the five games previous, giving everyone some run. His sitting on the bench while runs are happening against the Pistons is apparently “his thing”. He wants the team to play their way out of slumps. Needless to say, he is no Phil Jackson. However, it could work out in the long run.

  • Eboy Posted: Nov.10 at 9:42 am
I hope so, but Phil has a 9 title degree to go along with that “no care in the world attitiude”. Just wanted to see a good game yesterday after a Dolphins win, and was letdown, but happy again after the Giants plucked the Eagles.

  • Gerard Himself Posted: Nov.10 at 9:45 am
as long as I’ve watched Phil Jackson coach, read books and saw photos of Phil’s playing days, I have never saw him without any kind of facial hair since this season. I hardly recognize him, it’s…. it’s not Zen I tell ya!

  • Bryan Posted: Nov.10 at 9:45 am
What a mistake by the Pistons bring back Billups.

  • TADOne Posted: Nov.10 at 9:46 am
Yeah, the game was Ashley Simpson ugly from what I have been told and read. It is a work in progress. At this point, I just hope Stuckey is ok and able to travel with the team out West. If not, Will Bynum will be getting quite a bit of burn.

  • akimana Posted: Nov.10 at 9:46 am
Rockets were only up by 16 but its still crazy.

  • TADOne Posted: Nov.10 at 9:47 am
Shia off the bandwagon after 2 games. Nice form.

  • Simon S.Y Lawy Posted: Nov.10 at 9:47 am
    Lakers the great…, btw, it’s T-mac’s fault

  • Bryan Posted: Nov.10 at 9:48 am
    How bout the Jets Eboy.

  • James aka the artisst formerly known as Krayzie Bone Posted: Nov.10 at 9:50 am
Even better is terry tates election ads.

  • Bryan Posted: Nov.10 at 9:50 am
It was an early strike before all the haters get here Tad, I’m still on the wagon.

  • Holly MacKenzie Posted: Nov.10 at 9:52 am
I’m a Will fan, Tad. The game was disgustingly awful, but I’m also a believer that Curry will be a good coach in this league.

  • Eboy Posted: Nov.10 at 9:52 am
The Jets will be a first round knockout, if they make the playoffs, Shia.

  • James the balla Posted: Nov.10 at 9:53 am
    Gotta love lakerland!!!

  • Myles Brown Posted: Nov.10 at 9:56 am
    “If you scared…”

  • Holly MacKenzie Posted: Nov.10 at 10:01 am
    … say you scared.

  • TADOne Posted: Nov.10 at 10:02 am
I’m not scared until the 14th…

  • Bryan Posted: Nov.10 at 10:04 am
    Hater!

  • Holly MacKenzie Posted: Nov.10 at 10:05 am
So, Tad, let me get this straight. You DIDN’T watch the game yesterday?

  • Russ Bengtson Posted: Nov.10 at 10:06 am
The Hawks are undefeated and the Wizards are defeated. Who knew?

  • TADOne Posted: Nov.10 at 10:08 am
Sure didn’t Holly. I actually had previous plans that ran late into the evening. From the carnage, i’m kinda glad I didn’t. I would be in a pretty sour mood this morning if I did, i’m quite sure.

  • Co Co Posted: Nov.10 at 10:10 am
Yeah, but it was ugly without Josh. We need him to hurry back.

  • Holly MacKenzie Posted: Nov.10 at 10:11 am
Ah man. I don’t think I’m going to let myself miss a Pistons game for the rest of the season. Iverson. Stuckey. Bynum. Sheed. Curry. And of course, Rip and Maxiell. Fun group of guys to watch, even if last night was so very ugly.

  • Holly MacKenzie Posted: Nov.10 at 10:11 am
I’ll be sure to check out that commercial, Ken. Thanks!

  • TADOne Posted: Nov.10 at 10:13 am
Glad to have you on board Holly. I’m awaiting the arrival of the “I told you so” crowd. Should be fun.

  • Russ Bengtson Posted: Nov.10 at 10:17 am
I love Iverson and ‘Sheed, but as a Bulls fan I have no choice but to hate the Pistons. Can’t do it.

  • Smizzle Posted: Nov.10 at 10:17 am
Big ups to the Western shout out! They’re so much better than my Varsity Blues.

  • TADOne Posted: Nov.10 at 10:18 am
I expect nothing less from you Russ. Ditto me for the Bulls. Rose is looking like a stud, though.

  • Russ Bengtson Posted: Nov.10 at 10:19 am
Rose is great. Too bad Vinny is awful.

  • Co Co Posted: Nov.10 at 10:21 am
The Bulls will be the Hawks next victims…….or not.

  • Eboy Posted: Nov.10 at 10:25 am
If the Bulls can whoo D-Wade in two years, that could be the greatest backcourt of all time.

  • Holly MacKenzie Posted: Nov.10 at 10:49 am
That would be something, hey, Eboy?

  • TADOne Posted: Nov.10 at 10:50 am
E would not want that. He ain’t fooling anyone.

  • Taylor Hackett Posted: Nov.10 at 10:54 am
It is the Oklahoma City Thunder. Not Oklahoma. Atlanta 89 OKLAHOMA 85

  • B. Long Posted: Nov.10 at 10:54 am
What a great weekend. I went from being extremely pissed to crazy happy in a span of about 30 min. last night. Phil Jackson is a Guru. And I was laughing out loud at Vincent Thomas for his T-mac MVP race prediction last night. Congrats to Baron on his first W with the Clips.

  • Joel O's Posted: Nov.10 at 10:55 am
Regarding Bosh: looking back at Vincent Thomas’ “Commish 20″ piece the other day, where he wrote that Amare would turn in the first 30-and-10 season in 2 decades, I actually think Bosh will beat Amare to it. Something about playing in the Olympics with Kobe and the gang has somehow given Bosh a killer instinct, a mean edge to him that was sadly absent over the last 2 seasons. Bosh for MVP? Not gonna happen, but if he keeps at this pace he’s going to have an unbelievable 30 and 10 season on 50% FG percentage and 80% from the line. Those really are Mailman-esque numbers.

  • BETCATS Posted: Nov.10 at 10:59 am
    !!!!!!!!!!

  • BETCATS Posted: Nov.10 at 11:00 am
    WE BEAT THE HORNETS

  • B. Long Posted: Nov.10 at 11:02 am
Congrats BET. I hope yall keep knocking off your arch nemisis on the regular.

  • TADOne Posted: Nov.10 at 11:02 am
Bosh will look good in a Pistons uni in 2010.

  • Holly MacKenzie Posted: Nov.10 at 11:05 am
BET, that was a great win for you. Taylor Hackett, thanks for the keen eyes.

  • Holly MacKenzie Posted: Nov.10 at 11:05 am
Don’t joke like that, Tad. I’m a Pistons fan, but come on.

  • TADOne Posted: Nov.10 at 11:07 am
He said he loved Toronto right? No worries.

  • Holly MacKenzie Posted: Nov.10 at 11:09 am
Haha. Guess I’m overprotective of the team since I’ve made the move. We only get one in this country, we can’t lose the best that we have!

  • WhaHuh Posted: Nov.10 at 11:11 am
How about OJ Mayo catching fire, Billups isnt clicking offensively with the Nuggets yet.

  • Joel O's Posted: Nov.10 at 11:15 am
Bosh isn’t going anywhere. Polite, understated superstar seems just right for a nation of people who apologize to people who’ve bumped into us or get in our way when we’re in a hurry…

  • BETCATS Posted: Nov.10 at 11:17 am
Bosh and Jermaine Oneal play well together. I dont think Chris Bosh would leave, but if he does, Detroit would be great

  • BETCATS Posted: Nov.10 at 11:18 am
If Joe Dumars signs Chris Bosh, with the Iverson trade already done, with Darko and Stakehouse long gone, he would have succesfully created the alternate history of the detroit pistons.

  • Joel O's Posted: Nov.10 at 11:18 am
The Lakers, I have to admit, look great. But they did look great last year, too, even with Bynum out. If they can keep up the “challenger” mentality which they had last night all year, they’re champions. And the best team on the planet. But if they start acting like Champions-Elect by March or so again…

  • Chris O'Leary Posted: Nov.10 at 11:24 am
Things I loved about this weekend included chillbumps, the Raps beating a team they were supposed to beat and Stack Mac’s volcano segue. All things of beauty.

  • BETCATS Posted: Nov.10 at 11:27 am
i loved eating Oreo pie and spending a day in a room of pretty girls but that is a story for another day.

  • BETCATS Posted: Nov.10 at 11:30 am
    Its Spainish Time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Ryne Nelson Posted: Nov.10 at 11:31 am
@Joel: The Lakers didn’t change their attitude last season at all. They just were out-played and out-hustled. I don’t think ego had anything to do with their upset in the Finals.

  • TADOne Posted: Nov.10 at 11:32 am
Sounds like Joel is back on the Lakers band wagon.

  • Bryan Posted: Nov.10 at 11:34 am
Knicks 4 and 2. Suck on that… my knicks preview on my blog looks dated I hhave to revamp it.

  • B. Long Posted: Nov.10 at 11:35 am
I agree with Ryne. They were a young team that just got flat out beat. It had nothing to do with their attitude.

  • Joel O's Posted: Nov.10 at 11:35 am
Hur hur. I’m not, TADOne. Notice the bitter skepticism in above post. I’m sad to admit, but I feel that Phil Jackson got out-coached too, Ryne.

  • H to the Izzo Posted: Nov.10 at 11:37 am
How many Laker fans have been created since last night’s game?I’m guessing 54,000.

  • RV Posted: Nov.10 at 11:40 am
i’m actually going to kind of, sort of, defend Tmac here, yes he was 1 for 11, but Artest was also 2 for 11. Props to Brooks, who continues to impress in a big way. He actually played just 2 mins less than Rafer last night. Soon it’ll be minutes more.

  • Joel O's Posted: Nov.10 at 11:41 am
I’ve written about this and I’ll clarify it here. I think they approached the NBA finals last year with an attitude of mild complacency. Not the Pistons’ type of complacency. Don’t get me wrong, there are a lot of good attitude-y things about this Laker team. Their bench is hungry and plays hard; harder than their talent lets them, especially guys like Sasha and Luke and Farmar (and Turiaf but he’s gone). But even when they starting losing their footing against the Celtics, it seemed like they always felt they could recover, that things weren’t as bad as they were. Kinda like a McCain-esque “the fundamentals of the economy are strong” despite a gazillion indicators that it isn’t.

  • B. Long Posted: Nov.10 at 11:44 am
@H: Not last night. It wasn’t a national televised game so only like 22,000 Laker fans were created. They have to be on ESPN or TNT to hit that 50 G number.

  • Joel O's Posted: Nov.10 at 11:47 am
And the “young and inexperienced” excuse doesn’t cut it for me. Are PP, Ray, KG and Posey more experienced than Kobe, Fisher, Lamar and Pau? Each team had 4 or 5 veterans. Outside of that, they had very young benches. Who killed the Lakers last year? Rondo and Powe. The Lakers’ young bench mob of Farmar, Walton, etc. has gone through many more playoff battles than the Celtics’, too. And talking about inexperience, Doc Rivers’ greatest accolade prior to last year was his 2000 miracle run with those D-leaguers. Experience was not a factor.

  • H to the Izzo Posted: Nov.10 at 11:47 am
B:I thought about that but I figured that the INTERNET is big enough these days to put it up to the 50k region.PS-Why the hell wasn’t that a nationally televised game?

  • namik Posted: Nov.10 at 11:49 am
How many Piston fans were created when AI got traded? I’m guessing…. how the f*ck does it matter?

  • B. Long Posted: Nov.10 at 11:50 am
Paul Pierce has about twice the playoff experience of Lamar and Pau combined, not to mention Ray’s runs with the Bucks. Pau had played in one series and I think Lamar had been out of the first round maybe once. Posey already has a ring. The bottom line is they got outcoached and outplayed by a great team. Nuff said.

  • Anton Posted: Nov.10 at 11:51 am
Tough game for the Pistons, we all had pain in our chests watching from the 2nd quarter onwards.
Shake it off and get ready for some easy upcoming wins, boys.

  • FK in T-Oh Posted: Nov.10 at 11:51 am
The Lakers need a LIFEGUARD for the bench – they are just that deep.

  • TADOne Posted: Nov.10 at 11:51 am
It doesn’t namik. It’s called being ironical. I actually thought it was funny. I’m sure Vegas could do a line on it.

  • B. Long Posted: Nov.10 at 11:52 am
@H: I have no fu(king clue. I guess because of Sunday night football. I had to got to Buffalo Wild Wings to watch the game. Wifey says if I get League Pass I’ll forget she exsists.

  • Anton Posted: Nov.10 at 11:52 am
    @B.Long – Posey has 2 rings

  • B. Long Posted: Nov.10 at 11:55 am
@Anton: I was talking about their playoff experience before last years Finals. I’m well aware of his ownership of two rings. James Posey scares the sh!t out of me.

  • namik Posted: Nov.10 at 11:56 am
Tad its been done too many times to be ironical. Anyway, Ariza is looking really good. He makes up for a lot of the energy that we lost with Turiaf. He’s really setting the tone on D. How about that block on Yao by Kobe?

  • Anton Posted: Nov.10 at 11:56 am
not as scary as the Hornets losing to the Bobcats *cringes*

  • Anton Posted: Nov.10 at 12:01 pm
    @ FK – lol

  • Anton Posted: Nov.10 at 12:12 pm
that Obama story is kinda creepy…you know the little girl jumped on the bandwagon because of his college tax credit policy

  • Anton Posted: Nov.10 at 12:13 pm
also, Shaq looked young as he went for 29 points and 11 boards on saturday. that’s what happens when you give The Big Recliner some relaxation.
I’m out like Tony Parker’s condoms for the next month

  • Myung Posted: Nov.10 at 12:24 pm
    Yay, Hawks.

  • B. Long Posted: Nov.10 at 12:33 pm
Who ever thought that Mike Bibby would have a better impact on his new team than Jason Kidd? Oh yeah, I did.

  • Myung Posted: Nov.10 at 12:52 pm
I DO agree with your main sentiment, B Long (Kdd vs. Bibby). But I’d say Mike Bibby’s impact on the Hawks ranks behind 1. The players buying into Coach Woodson’s defensive philosophy 2. Joe Johnson’s steady play 3. Josh Smith’s maturity 4. Al Horford’s rebounding 5. Marvin Williams and his consistent jump shot and 6. Flip Murray’s offense off the bench. This isn’t to say I don’t appreciate what he’s brought to the team, mainly veteran leadership and a steady presence at a position we’ve struggled at for years. And I definitely think he is a better fit for the 1st team than Acie Law, at this point. But I watch this team play every game, and other than his fairly steady 3 point stroke, I think he might get a little more credit than he actually deserves (his key numbers on the year: 14.2 ppg, 5.6 apg, 40% fg %).

The Lakers will win a championship in 2009, Lord-willin’.

  • Tariq al Haydar Posted: Nov.10 at 1:13 pm
I’m sad the Eagles lost. Eli Manning was clearly beyond the line of scrimmage on that one play. I hate zebras.

I’ve gotten into the annoying habit of using facial expressions. In a related story, I am now a 14-year-old girl. :p

  • Allenp Posted: Nov.10 at 1:22 pm
Boston is scary nice on defense. And the way they push the ball back at you is just a killer.
Sheed is effing lazy. Right now he’s just a 6’11″ shooting guard. I don’t think he posted up one time against KG. The difference between Sheed and KG is just striking considering the fact they were considered contemporaries at one time. The Pistons had to post Maxiell because Sheed was being lazy, it was sad.
That said, I still have faith in this Pistons thing. Iverson adds a new dimension to them. If they can convince Sheed to buy in for one more season, they might make some noise this year. If Sheed just keeps chucking up threes, well, it’s curtains.

  • TADOne Posted: Nov.10 at 1:22 pm
Tariq, you are more than welcome to join our Pistons bandwagon. However, no Laker gear allowed.

  • TADOne Posted: Nov.10 at 1:23 pm
Also, the minimum age is 16, so you may not make the cut.

  • Tariq al Haydar Posted: Nov.10 at 1:32 pm
TAD, I now wear my Kobe jersey underneath my normal clothes at all times. Even when I scuba-dive. So fat chance on that “No-Laker-gear” ultimatum. I do, however, hope Iverson gets to the Finals. I love that guy.

  • Kid Presto Posted: Nov.10 at 1:33 pm
Riq! long time no see cuz.

  • Tariq al Haydar Posted: Nov.10 at 1:35 pm
I even got a Laker keychain! I go all out, my man.

  • Kid Presto Posted: Nov.10 at 1:35 pm
I would like to thank my moma for giving me league pass for my birthday.

  • Tariq al Haydar Posted: Nov.10 at 1:35 pm
Hey Kid Presto! I’ve been around.

  • Kid Presto Posted: Nov.10 at 1:37 pm
    aite, ignore me.

  • Tariq al Haydar Posted: Nov.10 at 1:37 pm
Lucky North American b@stards with your League Pass and your geographical closeness to basketball arenas.

  • Tariq al Haydar Posted: Nov.10 at 1:39 pm
I’ve been fantasizing about attending an NBA game. I imagine cheerleaders would make me feel both very comfortable and very uncomfortable.

  • TADOne Posted: Nov.10 at 1:39 pm
Scuba dive? Hopefully the fish attack that KB jersey.

  • Kid Presto Posted: Nov.10 at 1:39 pm
Do you know who this really is Riq?

  • Tariq al Haydar Posted: Nov.10 at 1:40 pm
Man this place is dead! Where is everyone? Aside from Kid Presto and TAD-the-dress-code-enforcing goon, it’s a ghost town.

  • Tariq al Haydar Posted: Nov.10 at 1:40 pm
    Kid Presto: No. Who? Palin?

  • Tariq al Haydar Posted: Nov.10 at 1:41 pm
    DP?

  • TADOne Posted: Nov.10 at 1:42 pm
It’s Monday, so work is busy for me. I imagine it is for others as well.

  • Kid Presto Posted: Nov.10 at 1:43 pm
Kobe’s mid-range game is freakin automatic man. When he pulls up, I don’t know a time last night when I thought it wasn’t going in. wham, wham, wham, and whammy. Dude was on. And did you see the way he swatted T-mac’s sh*t and freaked him on the offense end at the same time with the fadeway off the glass. pure offensive god. slu.

  • TADOne Posted: Nov.10 at 1:45 pm
Leave some room on the sac, fellas.

  • Kid Presto Posted: Nov.10 at 1:45 pm
    Yeah Riq! play wit it.

  • Tariq al Haydar Posted: Nov.10 at 1:49 pm
    Hey DP! Lakers in 2009.

  • B. Long Posted: Nov.10 at 1:53 pm
Wait til A.I. wins a game with Detroit and Tad will be showing off his “no gag reflex” on Bubba Chuck.

  • TADOne Posted: Nov.10 at 1:58 pm
    I’m confused B….what?

  • Eboy Posted: Nov.10 at 1:59 pm
    I hate white people……and Tariq.

  • Tariq al Haydar Posted: Nov.10 at 2:08 pm
Eboy: I love you, but only in a strictly physical sense.

  • Kid Presto Posted: Nov.10 at 2:16 pm
Dedication 3…wayne is back. I know it’s off topic but I had to put it out there.

  • namik Posted: Nov.10 at 2:17 pm
    Tariq where are you from?

  • TADOne Posted: Nov.10 at 2:19 pm
Did Lil Wayne ever leave? I wish he would…

  • namik Posted: Nov.10 at 2:23 pm
Did yall watch Entourage last night? They used Kid Cudi for like 10 seconds…that was tight. Plus Seth Green. SLOAN! And is it just me or is E a lot more likable this season than he has been in a while. Good season either way. Better than last season’s debacle.

  • Tariq al Haydar Posted: Nov.10 at 2:23 pm
    namik: Saudi Arabia

  • Kid Presto Posted: Nov.10 at 2:24 pm
I was bored of him at the time as well, Tad, but he is snapping of late and I like it. Except when he uses auto-tune, which kills me. Kanye uses it to but I like all of Kanye’s new sh*t and his new video is freaking creative as hell.

  • Kid Presto Posted: Nov.10 at 2:25 pm
Kid Cudi bites off me. Isn’t he Kanye’s new lupe?

  • namik Posted: Nov.10 at 2:28 pm
Tariq are you thinking about the government sponsored college/job? My college had some kids and they got hooked up. They spent a year or two learning english(obviously not an issue with you), then started college fresh and heres the best part- they got PAID to go to school. Something like $3000 every month. Sick deal.

  • TADOne Posted: Nov.10 at 2:29 pm
    I can’t be bored of something I hate…

  • namik Posted: Nov.10 at 2:30 pm
He is going to be on 2 tracks from his new album. I wouldn’t compare him to Lupe just yet, even though his mixtape is nice.

  • Kid Presto Posted: Nov.10 at 2:34 pm
    true.

  • Tariq al Haydar Posted: Nov.10 at 2:37 pm
    namik: Yup.

  • TADOne Posted: Nov.10 at 2:37 pm
Who the hell is Kid Cudi?!?

  • B. Long Posted: Nov.10 at 2:38 pm
Yall need to download “Turn Texas Blue” by Bun B, Cham, and Paul Wall was the best political mixtape song I’ve heard. It was on Leo G this weekend.

Tariq in the states would be a thing of beauty.

  • TADOne Posted: Nov.10 at 2:41 pm
Or I should say “back in the states”.

  • Tariq al Haydar Posted: Nov.10 at 2:41 pm
I’m out. Y’all need to get back to basketball before someone gets upset!

  • TADOne Posted: Nov.10 at 2:48 pm
AI is in Motown!!!!!!! How’s that?

  • B. Long Posted: Nov.10 at 2:52 pm
Motown isn’t 0-2 is it? I thought it was better than that.

  • B. Long Posted: Nov.10 at 2:53 pm
All b.s. aside, I think 10 games from now the Answer for Mr. Big Shot trade is gonna look great for both teams. People are overreacting.

  • B. Long Posted: Nov.10 at 3:04 pm
And I’ve made it a point not to sh!t about Kobe all season so far but that block on Yao last night when he threw his sh!t off the glass was bonkers. Dammnit! Now I’ve broke the seal.

  • Bryan Posted: Nov.10 at 3:32 pm
    F hip hop.

  • witness Posted: Nov.10 at 3:51 pm
these lakers are scary. i hope bryant breaks his right hand.

  • Moose Posted: Nov.10 at 4:18 pm
Stuckey scared me last night. The stuff’s scary. Other than that, the Celtics’ D looked great. I was a happy dude last night. And B., the Lakers DO look scary good. Congratulations. Mark your calenders, folks! (undefeated) Hawks @ Celtics!

  • TADOne Posted: Nov.10 at 4:30 pm
The Pistons just released this statement on Stuckey:
Detroit Pistons’ guard Rodney Stuckey did not travel with the team to Sacramento today. He remained in Detroit for precautionary, follow-up testing after experiencing symptoms of light-headed and dizziness in Sunday night’s game versus Boston. He is listed as day-to-day.

  • TADOne Posted: Nov.10 at 4:32 pm
While I am a bit upset that Stuck won’t be available for at least the Kings game, if not the whole West coast trip, i’m glad he is ok and that they are taking this seriously and not rushing him back.

  • Holly MacKenzie Posted: Nov.10 at 4:37 pm
What’s the deal on Stuckey… Please update me, boys.

  • Holly MacKenzie Posted: Nov.10 at 4:38 pm
Got it, Tad, sorry saw that and got scared… Witness, not funny. Ever.

  • Moose Posted: Nov.10 at 4:45 pm
Glad about that, TADOne. Stuckey is my favorite player on your team.

  • TADOne Posted: Nov.10 at 4:50 pm
I wish witness would break his hand so he can’t type. You’re welcome Holly.

  • H to the Izzo Posted: Nov.10 at 4:52 pm
I hope Detroit go on a say five game losing streak just to see TAD’s hilarious nervous breakdown.Yes “two games”,I know.Detroit will be alright, not interesting enough for me to jump on the bandwagon however.
    -
I hope Sarah Palin breaks her right hoof, because you know…she’s a Moose.Anybody remember who Sarah Palin is?No?

  • B. Long Posted: Nov.10 at 4:52 pm
Thanks Tad, my response to that ignorance wouldn’t have been appropriate in front of the kiddies.

  • Bryan Posted: Nov.10 at 4:54 pm
I’m the only person on earth not very impressed with stuckey I guess.

  • Holly MacKenzie Posted: Nov.10 at 4:55 pm
Shia, he’s a baller. Plays fearlessly and I like it. He’s also a funny guy, very, very nice off court.

  • H to the Izzo Posted: Nov.10 at 4:57 pm
    Bryan:It would appear so.

  • B. Long Posted: Nov.10 at 4:58 pm
@H: Wasn’t she like, John Mc Cain’s Hospice nurse or some sh!t?

  • TADOne Posted: Nov.10 at 5:01 pm
I’ll be having a nervous breakdown from real life before I worry too much about the Pistons izzo.

  • H to the Izzo Posted: Nov.10 at 5:01 pm
B:Nah,she was this stripper that dressed up as a schoolteacher who kinda followed McCain around. At the start everyone kinda thought it was funny, which boosted McCain. Then she started talking and innapropriately winking at people.

  • Moose Posted: Nov.10 at 5:18 pm
@ AR’s comment at 4:52: I’m pretty sure that the Palin thing wasn’t a reference to me, but just making sure . . .

  • The Frozen 1 Posted: Nov.10 at 5:25 pm
Been w/the Lake Show 4 about a century now & I’m happy to see that they haven’t faultered very much since they were back in Minney. So much other sh*t has changed though….

  • Hursty Posted: Nov.10 at 6:58 pm
….I’m ignoring that Rockets game until they play again. That was disgraceful. We/Rockets still have no sync or comfort in their sytem. They started the same way as they did last year. Fast start, some struggles, hang around 50% W/L cos of a stupid schedule, then get up to 60% and up towards all star break.

  • B. Long Posted: Nov.10 at 7:22 pm
    Excuses, excuses.

  • Sam Rubenstein Posted: Nov.10 at 7:37 pm
okay everyone, here’s the thing about the Giants since Holly started the conversation… they are like the Pistons before Ben left. Logically, they should the best team in the NFL, but they need the hate or they don’t play hard. Please hate on them, it makes them strong. No Osi, no Strahan… Justin Tuck. As I said to some friends last night, I want to watch Brandon Jacobs and Justin Tuck fight to the death. In the off-season of course.

  • B. Long Posted: Nov.10 at 8:11 pm
    Go Cowboys(ducks)!

  • Darksaber Posted: Nov.10 at 8:50 pm
    o-BAM-a. cute as hell.

  • Moose Posted: Nov.10 at 8:53 pm
    NE Patriots!

  • Moose Posted: Nov.10 at 8:54 pm
Matt Cassel! Pro Bowl! Yeah, all our guys are hurt right now (brady, maroney, harrison, all of our RBs) and its kinda painful to watch.
