Trade: Can Al Harrington Find Happiness in New York?

by Marcel Mutoni

The last time Peter Vecsey of the NY Post reported an NBA trade, let’s just say that things didn’t exactly work out. But, hey, everyone makes mistakes. He’s bound to get one of these stories right. Right?

For what it’s worth, The Viper says the Knicks and Warriors have a deal in place. Al Harrington is reportedly no longer a Golden State Warrior.

Knicks sources said a deal for Al Harrington was to go through late yesterday, but was delayed until today. A league conference call is scheduled for this morning that would bring the disgruntled Warriors forward to the Knicks, presumably for Malik Rose.

The move will reunite [Donnie] Walsh with Harrington, whom the Pacers president drafted out of high school (No. 25) in 1998.

I realize that Harrington has only suited up for a handful of games this season and had become persona non grata in Oakland, but Malik Rose? Seriously, that’s the best Chris Mullin could do? Yikes. No wonder they don’t let him in on some of the big team decisions anymore.

As for the Knicks, well, they’re getting a good player (who’s owed a little under $20 mil over the next couple of years). He should be able to get minutes in D’Antoni’s system; what remains to be seen is if he’ll deem those to be enough.

So the Knicks got a guy to take minutes away from the 6th pick in the draft for two years so they can get rid of him in the future and this is not going to effect Gallinari’s progress? Even if they traded for someone that plays the same position as Danilo wouldn’t they want someone who is going to show him the ropes not a guy who is going to launch 300 3′s?

Why the hell the Knicks give up Crawford?!

  • NBK

Donnie Walsh has Harrington-icantgetenoughofyou syndrome that’s the problem. I understand the trade from a financial stand point but it would have made more sense to trade jamal crawford for say Chris Kaman then Al Harrington.

Oh well, Crawford will average 30 points a game in GS. If he ever gets the ball that is.

NBK, it takes two to make a trade, so they have to get what they can to clear up cap space, cant be picky…..and Gallinari is pretty much done for the year, so next year he’ll be back as a rookie once again, which means harrington isn’t taking anything from him this year and next year, Harrington or no harrington, he’ll still won’t be ready for big minutes.

they are just going to have a bunch of guys averaging about 13 pts a game, one day Morrow will score like 26 and Jackson 13, then they switch the next game and so on with the rest.

    malik rose or crawford???

Ok taking Harrington out of the equation it is still a bad trade for NY—-Their SG position is in a sticky situation Wilson Chandler is going to be there starting 2? And first off the bench for him? Chris Duhon and Nate Robinson on the court at the same time does not make sense, and how are they going to gaurd the more athletic 2′s in the league now? Kobe might score 81 on the Knicks (just kidding) but they really can’t gaurd a quick 2. I feel like the Harrington trade effectively took them out of the playoff picture this year, and maybe next year depending on what happens but maybe that is all part of the plan.

as i check the salary figures, the Rockets have a lot more cap space in 2010 than the knicks…i didn’t think they’d be in the mix for Lebron…but i guess they may have a small chance. I thought NY had cleared more space than this though…guess not…

    Terrible….

  • RV

    Crawford

  • RV

NBK, from what i read on ESPN, it pretty much sounds like they realized they were screwing up the present in exchange for a better future

  • NBK

RV you have to take into account that the Knicks will rid themselves of some bad contracts they are stuck with like Curry and Randolph (i don’t know who’s contract lasts past 2010 but one does) They will get rid of it by then. Thats over 10 million off of whatever they are at.

Why would LeBron WANT to go to a Knicks team this bad again? Because it’s in New York? It’d have to be a LOT better in two years.

  • dubsfan

Its funny about all yall saying NY got the better deal, look now…we’re gittin Crawford, NYs highest scorer. And for those who doubt, we got a rotation with Monta, Jax, Magette, Dre (Biedrins), Buke and a sleeper in A-Mo (he’ll take ROY).

  • RV

dubsfan, i dont think anyone is saying NY got a better deal, we just know WHY they made the deal, but we are not sure why the Warriors did it.

  • RV

NBK, i’m sure the knicks will eventually get much more under the cap, but for all the lebron-to-Ny talk, i figured they had already cleared more space than this and it just surprised me the rockets were so much lower, yet you don’t really hear much about Houston and the 2010 FA class.

  • NBK

It makes less sense for the warriors then anyone else. It may help the Warriors win 5 more games then they would have but they are still going to struggle and Crawford screws their future. They are not making the playoffs regardless

Malik Rose?!! Why him, of all people?? Err… They could’ve at least gotten someone better. Quite an odd trade…

  • NBK

RV thats true the Knicks chances at landing LeBron don’t look as plausible as they are made out too be. I think one team nobody has really talked about in the LeBron sweepstakes is LAL, they have extra money and will have room under the cap in 2010, it kind of depends if LeBron wants money or wins because dallas and LA are the best places for him to win a title immediately.
