Trade Talk: Billups for Iverson

by Marcel Mutoni

When both Larry Brown and Allen Iverson were still in Philly, Iverson was thisclose to becoming a member of the Detroit Pistons. The only thing that stopped the blockbuster was apparently Matt Geiger’s refusal to re-work a trade kicker for the deal to work within the salary cap.

Well, Geiger is too busy playing around his helipad these days to affect NBA trades, and there have reportedly been talks about a potential deal between Detroit and Denver involving their two star guards.

From the Boston Globe:

NBA sources said the Nuggets have inquired about obtaining Denver native Chauncey Billups from the Pistons for Allen Iverson. Because of Iverson’s lucrative contract ($20.8 million) it would take more than Billups ($11 million), though.

At first glance, the logic to this rumored trade proposal is a bit hard to understand – Billups is signed through the 2011 season; Iverson, meanwhile, becomes a free agent next summer. Are the Pistons willing to pay Allen an enormous sum after he becomes a free agent, or would they let him walk and simply hand over the keys to the back-court over to Rodney Stuckey?

Anyway, what do you guys think?

i mean it might be good in a sort of “last ditch effort” for A.I. to get a championship before he leaves the game. but i don’t really see the point for the Pistons…

  • räuber hotzenplotz Posted: Nov.3 at 9:07 am
    first

  • Pro Posted: Nov.3 at 9:08 am
I Doubt the Pistons would do this. But I guess it would give Stuckey his chance to shine next year and bring that young Pistons core along a bit faster.
But who to add to make the figures work?

  • Bennie Posted: Nov.3 at 9:08 am
First!!! And Im not so sure about the trade….could AI fit into Detroit’s slow-tempo sets?? And him and Rip are kinda similar players, who’s gettin more shots?? Chauncey however I think could definitely help the Nuggets…..he doesnt always really need the ball in his hands like AI, and is a proven winner and clutch player. I got crazy love for Al but Im not 100% sure he’d fit in with the Pistons. Plus the whole money thing as well…..I dunno, we’ll see…..

  • riggs Posted: Nov.3 at 9:09 am
    hmmm this trade sounds intriguing

  • Jukai Posted: Nov.3 at 9:10 am
Cool, so another team Iverson can’t excel on?

  • NACHOveli Posted: Nov.3 at 9:11 am
Wow, this is an interesting proposal. I feel both teams would benefit because of Denver’s need for a true point guard and Detroit’s need to shake up their team and add a guy who is “The” guy. It would be nice to see AI get one last shot at post season glory though.

  • Kostas Koufos Posted: Nov.3 at 9:12 am
a smart move for the Pistons for salary-cup reasons…they did all they could do with Billups…at the same time Billups is a better fit than A.I. for the Nuggets (ok, anybody is a better fit for A.I. no matter what the situation is…)…of course this would mean that the Pistons would have to write-off the season if A.I. joins them…they get a lottery pick though….

  • Pro Posted: Nov.3 at 9:17 am
Iverson and Rip aren’t similar. Just because their both slim? Iverson needs the ball in his hands and he loves to attack the rim, whereas Rip works off of screens and movement for the catch and shoot. The question is would Iverson be able to run the point patiently enough to see Rip get open and give him the ball.

  • Mendel Posted: Nov.3 at 9:19 am
@ Jukai, I agree. I love the Pistons my favorite NBA team and i love IVERSON enough to still ask some computer hack out there to crash slamonline for there f-ed up top 50 rankings that had AI at eighteen, after they have pimped him so many times over the years on there covers. Any how I don’t like the trade and I don’t see why Detroit would ever think of ditching Billips when he has been the catylast of that team and also there established his name as Mr Big Shot. I know Curry may be getting desperate for instant Offense every night of the week but he has the group to win it just takes coaching to do it and not cheap tricks, besides AI would need to many touches on such a versitile weel balenced offensive team. Iverson needs to be on a team with dominant bigs and the rest role players. AKA, Toronto, AKA, SUNS,

  • BETCATS Posted: Nov.3 at 9:24 am
the stupidest possible trade ever. Why get rid of Billups? He fits in perficetly? Why get rid of Iverson? you could just resign him. I will just let Cub and Tad decide on this one, they are the fans.

  • namik Posted: Nov.3 at 9:25 am
Good for Denver, bad for Detroit.

  • TADOne Posted: Nov.3 at 9:28 am
I would like to know who the Boston Globe’s “sources” are? This was rumored months ago.

  • adams Posted: Nov.3 at 9:37 am
Billups really sucked in the playoffs the last two years and they’re paying him too much so I’m not surprised the Pistons would try to get rid of him. On the other hand Iverson won’t really make a difference. I suspect it would be purely a cost cutting move if there’s any truth to the rumor at all.

  • KA Posted: Nov.3 at 9:39 am
this is a good time as ever to do it.

  • TADOne Posted: Nov.3 at 9:43 am
KA: Um, how so? The season just started and the Pistons are 2-0. Stuckey is no doubt the future of this franchise, but he is still green. Billups is the catalyst and leader of the Pistons. If they were going to move him, it would have been in the offseason. The Boston Globe is basically rehashing old news and I buy none of it as being new. Besides, who exactly would Detroit add to make this deal work?

  • Co Co Posted: Nov.3 at 9:45 am
The Pistons need to do something…..

  • Eboy Posted: Nov.3 at 9:49 am
Uhm….I’ve only said this about 5 times since April…..do it Pistons!!!

  • BETCATS Posted: Nov.3 at 9:50 am
why would you fix something that is not broken? Denver needs a new PG, but is Iverson worth trading? I guess a Billups/JR Smith backcourt would be ill, but Iverson wearing a Pistons uni would just be werid

  • matt the jazz fan Posted: Nov.3 at 9:52 am
not a chance. @coco: if detroit needs to do somethnig it sure as he|l isn’t getting a 30-something shoot first guard, no matter how much heart (and skills) he has.

  • Joel O's Posted: Nov.3 at 9:53 am
Hmm. This really doesn’t help the Pistons at all. And as TAD said, why would the new coach keep Chauncey through training camp and then flirt with the chance of trading him 2 games into the season? And yeah, he fits in perfectly with the Pistons system. Plus Denver already has a decent point guard in Anthony Carter; why would they need to upgrade a point guard when they are in dire need of a defender – very evident in their recent loss to the Lakers? They outgunned the Lakers, ran at them and shot a much higher percentage, but were killed on the boards and that lost the game for them.

  • Joel O's Posted: Nov.3 at 9:53 am
Haha. Eboy, you think this’d even work?

  • underdog Posted: Nov.3 at 9:53 am
I think this trade would destroy Detroit, so I don’t really see why it’s good for them (besides the fact AI will be free agent next summer). But I have to admit, I’d love to see AI back in the EC.

  • Bryan Posted: Nov.3 at 9:56 am
    Please don’t let this happen.

  • Joel O's Posted: Nov.3 at 9:57 am
I just don’t think AI would make a good Pistons point man. I mean, you’d think if the trade happened AI would have to be running the point in Detroit, with a backcourt of AI and Rip, with Price at the 3. AI has run the point at Denver in the past, but I feel that the pg’s role in Detroit is much more “disciplined” and restrained (not a good fit for AI) whereas with the Nugs, even as a pg, AI had room to slash and attack and create for his teammates off that.

  • Eboy Posted: Nov.3 at 10:00 am
I would bet big dollars that Detroit would gain a kick in the ass they’ve needed for the longest and a backcourt of A.I. and Stuckey would be the best in the East. A.I. would buy in because….well….he’d resalize this was the best shot at a title he’d ever had.

  • BETCATS Posted: Nov.3 at 10:00 am
    i restructed my site!

  • BETCATS Posted: Nov.3 at 10:01 am
I would like to see some Piston’s colored Questions released if Iverson gets traded. But that wont happen because Reebok sucks.

  • TADOne Posted: Nov.3 at 10:01 am
    Ok, for the uninformed:
Detroit would need to add another $10-11 mil in salary to even complete a trade for Iverson if Billups was the main target. The Pistons CANNOT trade Kwame, Fabio, Bynum, or Acker since they are trade restricted; so here is the only combos that would work to complete this trade:
    1) Billups and McDyess for Ivy (maybe)
    2) Billups and Tay for Ivy (um, hell no)
    3) Billups and Afflalo, Maxiell, and Amir for Ivy (who in their right mind would do this?)
    4) Billups and Rip for Ivy (see above)
    5) Billups and Sheed for Ivy (get the point??)

  • Eboy Posted: Nov.3 at 10:04 am
Option 1 is fantastic…..plus Dyess can close his career out in Denver…..that’s where he was nicest anyways.

  • BETCATS Posted: Nov.3 at 10:04 am
Tad, maybe iverson is not the only Nugget becoming a Piston?

  • Damien Posted: Nov.3 at 10:04 am
DETROIT: If you want to trade a starter look at Rip. The guy needs to run around for 10 seconds each offensive play to get open – that’s slow game. Once he gets the ball, if it isn’t an immediate shot opportunity then he can’t do much. And the lack of defense on this dudes part is ridiculous. I vote him the most overrated player in the NBA. Get rid of Rip for a legit 2 guard and you’ll see yourselves in the ECF again.

  • TADOne Posted: Nov.3 at 10:10 am
    ^Dumbest sh*t I ever heard.

  • TADOne Posted: Nov.3 at 10:13 am
E: That would be the only option I would even remotely consider, but it still makes no sense. I love Ivy, but getting him would relegate either Rip or Tay to the bench, unless Detroit plans on using Ivy as the PG. We all know Ivy isn’t coming off the bench. And besides, Detroit is 2-0 and has looked good in their first 2 games of the Curry Era. If this trade were to happen, it would have been done already.

  • BETCATS Posted: Nov.3 at 10:15 am
Thats a pretty bold statement. If i was Pistons GM (which i am not) i would trade either Billups/McDyesse/Sheed for Iverson or another good scorer. Hamilton+Stucky+Amir Johnson+Tayshaun=title contender in 2-3 years

  • Eboy Posted: Nov.3 at 10:15 am
    Stuckey-PG
    AI-SG
    Rip-SF
    Tay-PF
    Sheed-C Best 5 in the league…..hands down.

  • MBE18 Posted: Nov.3 at 10:16 am
Detroit can then trade Iverson to the Knicks for Z-BO.
    PG-Stuckey
    SG-RIP
    SF-Prince
    PF-Z-BO
    C-Rasheed

  • TADOne Posted: Nov.3 at 10:18 am
As long as rebounding and interior defense doesn’t matter, I would agree with you E. Unfortunately, this isn’t Rucker or NBA Live.

  • BETCATS Posted: Nov.3 at 10:19 am
I wish this was Rucker or NBA Live. teams would average anywhere between 120-70 points a game. Oh wait, the Warroirs and Clippers are real.

  • rob stewart Posted: Nov.3 at 10:20 am
I would love to see Iverson moved. The Nuggets are just a team waiting to implode. Melo cutting his braids made me like the Nuggets even less. Sooner or later the Pistons are going to have to let Billups go as his game declines and Stuckey improves. Please make the trade Joe, I know you see a little Zeke in A.I.

  • Hail Mary Jane | Hail Mary Jane Posted: Nov.3 at 10:23 am
[...] Trade Rumor:  Allen Iverson for Chauncey Billups.  [Slam] [...]

  • Eboy Posted: Nov.3 at 10:24 am
You would still have Amir, Brickhands and Maxiell, TAD, so you’d be straight, stop trying to hold in the excitment, b*tch, you know you want this to happen.

  • BETCATS Posted: Nov.3 at 10:28 am
I thought Jamal Tinsley was on the Nuggets???

  • TADOne Posted: Nov.3 at 10:31 am
I love Iverson, everyone knows this, but you said it yourself: Kwame would be counted on as a main contributor and we would be an injury away from having a serious issue in our frontcourt. I just don’t think I could stomach Kwame and an inexperienced but highly skilled Amir as being something remotely reliable. McDyess is rock solid and you know what you are getting.

  • Eboy Posted: Nov.3 at 10:32 am
What about your boy, Anthony Mason 2008? He’s good in the 4 spot off the bench with his new contract and all, right?

  • B. Long Posted: Nov.3 at 10:39 am
This would be a solid move for both teams. Denver gets a proven winner and leader and the Pistons get that breathe of fresh scoring that they need as well.

  • rob stewart Posted: Nov.3 at 10:40 am
    Who is Anthony Mason 2008?

  • BETCATS Posted: Nov.3 at 10:45 am
who is the White Spencer Hawes? The Black Spencer Hawes? The Spencer Hawes?

  • Eboy Posted: Nov.3 at 10:46 am
Rob, Maxiell, not for his game, for his look and build.

  • B. Long Posted: Nov.3 at 10:46 am
    Oh Yeah, GO VOTE PEOPLE!

  • Jukai Posted: Nov.3 at 11:08 am
I’m sorry, but I’m with TADone here. Rip at small forward? Tayshun as the four spot? These guys are great one-on-one defenders but they’re going to be outmuscled like a motherfluffer in those positions. They will then be more fatigued on the offensive end by using so much strength. Plus, Rasheed at the five? Why not just trade for Okur if you want your center to be jacking threes and staying as far outside the middle as possible?
    Not loving this scenario

  • Eboy Posted: Nov.3 at 11:12 am
Yeah, ’cause the East is loaded with incredible big men that will keep them from doing ANYTHING.

  • Jukai Posted: Nov.3 at 11:12 am
Now let’s say we don’t use Eboy’s insane line-up. Iverson at the one would be… INTERESTING to say the least. I think everyone would fit in perfectly in this scenario EXCEPT Hamilton. As everyone said, the dude works on screens and positioning to get his points. Iverson moving all over the damn place would limit Rip’s movement, and I question Iverson’s court-vision (not really his ability to see the floor but his ability to keep his eyes away from the basket) when it comes to getting Rip the ball. Rip would have to become more of a spot-up shooter, something which he can do but not incredibly well.
So… Rip would have to leave for Iverson to come to Detroit effectively.

  • TADOne Posted: Nov.3 at 11:13 am
Jukai: Sheed has been playing the five for the last 2 seasons, so that isn’t new. But anyway, in that scenario we would be outrebounded 50-20 every game.

  • Eboy Posted: Nov.3 at 11:15 am
You two must not pay much attention to games other than the one’s your teams play in.

  • TADOne Posted: Nov.3 at 11:16 am
Nope, I live in a bubble.

  • Eboy Posted: Nov.3 at 11:16 am
Oh, and TAD, you baboon, does that mean that McDyess and Chauncey make up the other 30 rebounds a game?

  • Eboy Posted: Nov.3 at 11:16 am
    Obviously.

  • Jukai Posted: Nov.3 at 11:18 am
    Eboy:
    1) First off, I forgot the east only plays the east and never the west. My mistake.
    2) Tayshun will have to guard Garnett, Chris Bosh, Elton Brand, Drew Gooden, Antoine Jamison, Rashard Lewis. I hope he can shift all that long arm length into muscle.
    3) Likewise, Rip will have to guard Paul Pierce, Lebron James, Caron Butler, Gerald Wallace, Josh Smith, Shawn Marion… I hope his quick foot speed will come in handy when these players are just pushing him out of the way

  • Jukai Posted: Nov.3 at 11:23 am
TADOne: I’m not a huge Pistons fan, so you gotta excuse me on the Rasheed thing. I always figured McDyess played center because offensively, that’s just how it looks to me.

  • TADOne Posted: Nov.3 at 11:24 am
E: Please explain to me in terms I can understand where Rip, playing the 3, Tay playing the 4, Ivy as the 1, and Sheed as the 5, where exactly interior D and rebounding will come from?? I’m obviously too damn simple to understand your superior logic, so tell me slowly. In case you haven’t realized, Amir is our starting 4 now and Stuck still comes off the bench. Rip is not going out of the starting 5, Stuck is still learning, so Ivy would play the 1.

  • TADOne Posted: Nov.3 at 11:26 am
Well, Jukai has made my argument for me, and quite well, actually. Yes, i’m a bit surprised. Anyway, let me go back inside my bubble where it is all things Pistons, Obama, and The Roots. Carry on.

  • Eboy Posted: Nov.3 at 11:26 am
Two morons don’t equal a right.

  • Eboy Posted: Nov.3 at 11:28 am
It really doesn’t matter though, Joe won’t pull the trigger and the Pistons will still be home before June.

  • Jukai Posted: Nov.3 at 11:32 am
The thought of Rip Hamilton guarding Lebron gave me fits of laughter, BTW

  • niQ Posted: Nov.3 at 11:37 am
    make it happen!

  • TADOne Posted: Nov.3 at 11:40 am
Yeah, because Joe is obviously a moron.

  • Eboy Posted: Nov.3 at 11:43 am
    Well…he did sign Kwame.

  • Jukai Posted: Nov.3 at 11:44 am
    TADOne:
Billups and Rip for Ivy and JR. Trade works money wise. Denver gets a good defensive backcourt and Carmello now is totally dominant on the ball. Detroit loses a good amount of defense but gains their superstar scorer who can respond in points, plus a shooting guard who can spot-up shoot to Iversons’ passes. You also have a cast of athletic bigmen who will draw attention away from Iverson, and hardnose players who will keep JR in line.
Your thoughts? It’s risky, but if you’re not happy with second place for the Pistons, it may be a nice shake-up.

  • TADOne Posted: Nov.3 at 11:44 am
E: This is all rumor and speculation. Trust me when I tell you that this trade is NOT even on the table or being discussed. This rumor is from months ago. When Joe inquired about Melo, Denver rebuffed that offer and instead tried to dump Iverson, which Joe listened to and then scoffed at. The only way this happens is if both teams are struggling around the trade deadline and are looking to shake things up. I can’t help it that the Boston Globe is slow with their news.

  • Simon S.Y Lawy Posted: Nov.3 at 11:45 am
    make it happen…

  • TADOne Posted: Nov.3 at 11:46 am
At least we didn’t trade Caron for him. Kwame is effective as a 4th or 5th big man, which he is in Detroit. Who else was out there?

  • BETCATS Posted: Nov.3 at 11:47 am
if the Nuggets gave up JR Smith, they would not be the Nuggets anymore

  • KaponoE Posted: Nov.3 at 11:47 am
    Iverson for Billups… Won’t happen.

  • Jukai Posted: Nov.3 at 11:47 am
Obviously the success of the trade depends on JR not taking half court three pointers

  • slamfan4life Posted: Nov.3 at 11:47 am
sounds like a good deal, i really would like too see this happen

  • einstein Posted: Nov.3 at 11:57 am
    i’d like it.

  • nate Posted: Nov.3 at 12:03 pm
allen iverson should go to boston. make the age higher. haha.

  • Khalid Salaam Posted: Nov.3 at 12:07 pm
I just don’t see how this helps the Pistons as all. Subtracting Billups for Iverson eff’s up the perimeter defense. if you put ai at the 1 and stuckey at the 2 what do u do with rip? anyone who thinks rip can play the 3 needs to brush up on basketball 101. it works for denver sorta but really they’re about to rebuild anyway. they are so far behind the curve on defense that it looks hopeless. at this point i’d rather have the grizzlies roster (for real) than denvers. the nuggets window as presently constructed never really opened, so i can’t say its closed. lets say the window faces a brick wall. that pretty much sums up this team.

  • TADOne Posted: Nov.3 at 12:13 pm
    Thank you Khalid.

  • Eboy Posted: Nov.3 at 12:18 pm
Yes, ’cause NBA teams can’t adapt from game to game and matchup to matchup to allow their best units to work favorably for them.

  • Young Chris MP3 Posted: Nov.3 at 12:21 pm
Paul Pierce would destroy Rip Hamilton at the 3-spot and A.I. would struggle mightily against the taller Allen. KG would have an advantage over Tayshaun as well.

  • Jukai Posted: Nov.3 at 12:22 pm
TADOne, are you not even going to grace my trade proposal with an opinion?

  • Bryan Posted: Nov.3 at 12:27 pm
Ill die inside if this trade happens.

  • maio Posted: Nov.3 at 12:30 pm
That deal is not getting Fabio on the floor longer anyway.

  • TADOne Posted: Nov.3 at 12:35 pm
E: Honestly, your scenario would never play out. If the Pistons were to get AI, he would start at the 1, Rip at the 2, Tay the 3, Amir the 4, and Sheed the 5. Stuck would continue to come off the bench with the idea of earning the starting PG spot for next season. What Joe would be going for is a 1 season run with AI for everything since i’m quite sure he wouldn’t want to re-sign him. Unless Joe is thinking we have a run at either Bron, Bosh, or Wade with Sheed/Ivy off the books, he doesn’t even consider the trade.

  • TADOne Posted: Nov.3 at 12:36 pm
Jukai: As much as I would love to see JR Smith succeed, I would rather not move that experiment to the Palace of Auburn Hills. Thanks, but no thanks.

  • Bryan Posted: Nov.3 at 12:38 pm
Actually I take it back I’m gonna warm to it. Me and tab can be bff now. With defensive minded players surrounding him this could be the sixers circa 2001 all over again. The reason I hate the pistons so much is because of Billups and Tay but I can live with it. I have to get it together Iverson is my favorite player of all time so I will have to root for the pistons. I just lost a little of my soul typing that sentence.

  • Bryan Posted: Nov.3 at 12:40 pm
    Tad! Not tab!

  • Andy Posted: Nov.3 at 12:40 pm
I like the trade for both teams. Chauncey is obviously aging and can’t play D anymore, which is perfect for a Nuggets team that doesn’t defend. AI can be the scorer for a year that the Pistons have lacked. Then Stuckey takes over next year – he’s going to be a stud when he gets starter minutes.

  • TADOne Posted: Nov.3 at 12:50 pm
It’s ok Shia; come one over to the Dark Side. The water is warm, i swear.

  • Zee! Posted: Nov.3 at 12:51 pm
Although this will never happen, wouldn’t the D seem like a perfect fit for A.I.? And co-sign Khalid regarding what this does for the nuggs as regards to this season. They really must want Tyler Hansbrough.

  • TADOne Posted: Nov.3 at 12:52 pm
Shia, if it will make you feel any better, read my 11:44 am comment. This has less than 1% chance of happening, for now.

  • IamDetroit Posted: Nov.3 at 12:53 pm
Mr. bigshot for A.I?? MCdyess can go with the deal. This is great!!! I’ve been waiting for ivo to come to us . If we want to compete w/boston this trade is needed. Bigshot don’t seem to come thru like he used to. Detroit needs a hall of famer that can play defense at the point and score. trust; rip, sheed, ivo and stuck can all take it to the rim and kick it out or get fouled.

  • Joe Posted: Nov.3 at 12:54 pm
holy hornhog i think its official

  • CC Posted: Nov.3 at 12:57 pm
I think this is a horrible idea. Detroit fans do not respect AI and find his b*tch*ssness to be out of control. Chauncy and Antonio Mc Dyess on the other hand are widely admired, mature and emotionally evenhanded assets to the team and the city of Detroit. I think this is a tradegy of epic proportions.

  • Big Marv Posted: Nov.3 at 12:57 pm
dunno if this would do anything for the Pistons or AI and this commin’ from an Piston fan and also a long time Iverson fan. If this happens my jersey will be here before X-mas!!

  • Khalid Salaam Posted: Nov.3 at 12:57 pm
I think the trade is official

  • IamDetroit Posted: Nov.3 at 1:03 pm
rondo can’t check iverson or stucky. We no longer have to rely on rip to score 20+ every night. And if this don’t pump up sheed to be the real SHEED! then I don’t think we will win another title.

  • PhillyAIF Posted: Nov.3 at 1:04 pm
Why would Detroit give up Billups for AI?? That franchise prides itself on tough nosed and Billups is the glue of that team. AI is fearless on offense but he is a defensive liability (tough on offense but pitiful on defense). I don’t see how AI and Rip could play on the same court at the same time… Plus, I don’t know if Flip has the mentality to handle AI. Detroit has the pieces in place to retool and be a contender if Billups, Rip, Shead and McDyess aren’t there but I don’t know if I would give up on those guys just yet.

  • Eboy Posted: Nov.3 at 1:04 pm

  • TADOne Posted: Nov.3 at 1:21 pm
Um, i’m utterly shocked. Not upset, just in disbelief. Welcome to Motown, Ivy.

  • BETCATS Posted: Nov.3 at 1:22 pm

  • BETCATS Posted: Nov.3 at 1:23 pm

  • Allenp Posted: Nov.3 at 1:24 pm
I don’t like this trade at all for Detroit. But, the Nuggets will be better.

  • BETCATS Posted: Nov.3 at 1:24 pm
if this fails ESPN will blame Pacman Jones

  • Cub Buenning Posted: Nov.3 at 1:26 pm
I have plenty to say about this matter, obviously. This seems like maybe Chauncey read my letter from the SLAM Top 50…. Great move for the Nuggets. I have been tough on their front office, but they have made some nice personnel moves IMO. Awful with how they treat Karl and the players, but the JR Smith trade, the Camby move (i know y’all still hate that) re-signing Nene and Melo have all been positive. They passed on picking up Kleiza’s 4th-yr option this weekend which was curious, tho….

  • Anton Posted: Nov.3 at 1:27 pm
so how soon is he going over there?

  • TADOne Posted: Nov.3 at 1:27 pm
I’m wondering if Rip is next?

  • Marcel Mutoni Posted: Nov.3 at 1:27 pm
it’s official, sez screamin’ a. smith. ryne will have an update up shortly…the pistons are now my favorite team in the east. as you were.

  • Eboy Posted: Nov.3 at 1:27 pm
I hope TAD eats his fu*king words…..and that little dog of yours too (Jukai)!!!! And Denver is a little more balanced today, good for them.

  • [...] You heard the rumors. You thought it wouldn’t happen at least until the season got started, things got rolling. Chauncey Billups is a much better fit in the D than almost any other guard. [...]

  • Eboy Posted: Nov.3 at 1:28 pm
    Pistons ’08-09……love it!!!!

  • BETCATS Posted: Nov.3 at 1:28 pm
Denver is now a lot stronger. Billups/JR Smith/Carmelo Anthony/Mcdysse/Nene is a GREAT lineup

  • Anton Posted: Nov.3 at 1:29 pm
Nuggets woun’t even make the playoffs this year.
    Also, co-sign BETCATS @ 1:20pm

  • TADOne Posted: Nov.3 at 1:29 pm
E, I ate my f*cking words 20 minutes ago, thanks.

  • BETCATS Posted: Nov.3 at 1:31 pm
Stuckey/Iverson/Tayshaun/Wallace/Amir Johnson or Stuckey/Iverson/Hamilton/Tayshaun/Wallace are championship teams. They just need a better center or better power forward.

  • Eboy Posted: Nov.3 at 1:31 pm
    Keep chewing, fu&ker.

  • Bryan Posted: Nov.3 at 1:31 pm
Well Iverson has a good secondary scorer in Rip who works off the ball a few defensive guys and he’s back to being numero uno. I like it. Dear God… go pistons.

  • riggs Posted: Nov.3 at 1:32 pm
    hahahahahahahahahahahaha

  • BETCATS Posted: Nov.3 at 1:32 pm
Man, Rip off the Bench could lead to sixth man of the year honors

  • Anton Posted: Nov.3 at 1:34 pm
    This almost makes Sheed…likeable?
Never thought I’d buy Pistons gear, but here we go!

  • BETCATS Posted: Nov.3 at 1:36 pm
I still think reebok will not make any Questions in Pistons colors or any other old Iverson shoes in Pistons colors, but i wish they would.

  • Weapon X Posted: Nov.3 at 1:36 pm
The Answer should go to Orlando or the T-Dot.

  • BETCATS Posted: Nov.3 at 1:40 pm
too late Weapon X, he is in Mo-Town with black Micheal Jackson now.

  • Anton Posted: Nov.3 at 1:44 pm
    ANYTHING IS POSSIBOOOOOOOOOOOOLE
    !!!!

  • Anton Posted: Nov.3 at 1:44 pm
I shall return for further celebration.

  • Diggy Posted: Nov.3 at 1:51 pm
Dont do it! this trade is stupid…

  • Cheryl Posted: Nov.3 at 1:53 pm
I can see this one for Denver, but why would Detroit do this? To make room for Stuckey and Maxiel? TAD, help a Sistah understand.

  • Jukai Posted: Nov.3 at 2:11 pm
I really really REALLY did not see this happening

  • Jukai Posted: Nov.3 at 2:14 pm
I’m shocked. Uh, I wonder what this means for my fantasy team.

  • Peter Robert Casey Posted: Nov.3 at 2:17 pm
It makes things exciting. I know that much!

  • Tommy Patron Posted: Nov.3 at 3:18 pm
This will energize both ‘Sheed and AI. Khalid-how does swapping Billups for AI mess with the Pistons perimeter defense. Billups isn’t exactly good for keeping guards in front of him anymore.

  • Roy Posted: Nov.3 at 3:29 pm
it’s gonna take a while for me to get used to seeing Iverson in a pistons jersey….

  • Pro Posted: Nov.3 at 3:53 pm
You know what, Dumars is a genius. Detroit has a contender this year and cap room next year and the year after?

  • Godzilla Posted: Nov.3 at 4:05 pm
Celtics vs Pistons (conference finals once again) just got better!

  • Cheryl Posted: Nov.3 at 4:09 pm
Plus, Billups is from Denver, right? This may have worked out for him too, since this next 2 or 3 seasons are his last. Why not play at home? Unless, of course, I’m wrong, then forget everything I just said…

  • d-mo Posted: Nov.3 at 6:11 pm
AI and Sheed together, now thats gangsta! Billups and Melo thats……I don’t know

  • Bubba Chuck Posted: Nov.3 at 6:26 pm
    F*ck tha nuggets! DETROIT PISTONS!

  • Weapon X Posted: Nov.3 at 7:34 pm
The Answers about to do his damn thang in the Motor City!
Bubba Chuck; you’s a straight fool! You crack me the hell up. PISTONS!!

  • N.Pawelczyk Posted: Nov.3 at 8:19 pm
Really???? Wow you kids must NOT know basketball. IVERSON for Chauncy is a great trade…on DETROITS part…why you ask…IVO avg.26.4 ppg and 7.1 apg. last season, Billups…17.0 ppg and 6.8 apg. IVO perfect fit for RIPS 17.3 ppg and 4.2 apg….think about it kids….I REST MY CASE!!!! GO DETROIT!!

  • N.Pawelczyk Posted: Nov.3 at 9:03 pm
Cheryl…..Read my last comment….If IVO keeps his 7 apg he gives Rip a GREAT chance to score 17+ a night. once that happens he will most likly put at least 30 up. If i’m wrong the worst that can happen is IVO puts up 25 and we WIN the chip’…..we AS in DETROIT

  • N.Pawelczyk Posted: Nov.3 at 9:27 pm
TAD..Soooo. where can I cop one of those shirts?? You know “YELLOW W/GREEN KID AND KEMP EMBOLIZED”????

  • Bubba Chuck Posted: Nov.3 at 10:04 pm
Weapon X: i aint tha brightest crayon in tha box. was that a compliment?

  • objective view Posted: Nov.3 at 10:42 pm
nuggets have JR Smith and Melo to score they really need a point guard who will play point guard (Iverson spending time at SG) billups 3yr 11 million contract wont be bad (9 million + less than iverson per year) and a vet big wont hurt. Iverson did help melo bare the scoring load but was playing in JR’s spot often. Detroit have Hamilton and Afflalo at SG and stucky a PG they don’t really need another small scorer (Billups, Hamilton, Stuckey and Prince were doing nicely) so where will iverson fit there? Stuckey can take over at point but they don’t need a scoring point/SG.
