Agent: Ricky Rubio Likely To Skip 2009 Draft

    by Ryne Nelson

According to Rubio’s agent, Germa’n González, “it is a real possibility” that the Spanish point guard will not declare for the upcoming 2009 NBA Draft.

The following is rough English translation, as González told to Marca, the Spanish nationwide daily sports newspaper:

“We do not want it to go like other players who have left very high in the Draft and soon they do not play. The Americans have become crazy to have players there as soon as possible. The decisions will be taken based on which the European market also provides.”

While González also said Rubio’s decision to remain in Europe is not final, Rubio’s € 6 million ($8.4 million USD) buyout could eventually cause him to stay. A complex renegotiation with DKV Joventut needs to occur in order to reduce the high costs (higher than even the salary of a no. 1 selection) of rescission.

Despite talks of being a Top 5 pick in June, worries about Rubio’s NBA-readiness will likely cause him to forgo the NBA for at least another year.

Myles, speaking of that . . . I had a bl0g entry about a month ago that you might be interested in about that . . . I’ll email it to you.

    • Eboy Posted: Dec.31 at 11:11 am
So you can’t shoot Moose? Great start to a career, kiddo.

    • Moose Posted: Dec.31 at 11:12 am
Well, I was kinda just saying that I was nasty . . . but I’m a forward, so don’t pick it all apart, E. I can shoot the lights out.

    • Devine Posted: Dec.31 at 11:17 am
      Dude, goathair’s gonna be piiiiiiiiissed.

    • Eboy Posted: Dec.31 at 11:17 am
So are we to assume that you are going to try and be the SF on the imaginary SLAMOnline commenter team? Nasty? That’s how you describe yourself? At 13? Put some video of game action up on your blog so we can get a view of Moose Nasty in action.

    • Moose Posted: Dec.31 at 11:19 am
Maybe, Eboy, just maybe. I play the 4 as well. Who are the other members? Remember my dimensions, Eboy.

    • Eboy Posted: Dec.31 at 11:21 am
Yeah, but you’re still a baby in basketball time….remember that.

    • Moose Posted: Dec.31 at 11:22 am
E, maybe if you give me your email address I might send you some stuff. Once it stops snowing. We’re getting five inches today! How many feet you got over in WPB, E?

    • Moose Posted: Dec.31 at 11:23 am
I’m still a baby in basketball time? Hmmmm. So is LeBron. But in game, he makes up for the lot of it. Remember that, Eboy.

    • Eboy Posted: Dec.31 at 11:27 am
Lebron also has 11 years on you.

    • BETCATS Posted: Dec.31 at 11:28 am
Moose, Lebron could bench press you when he was in 3rd grade. Your not Lebron.

    • Russ Bengtson Posted: Dec.31 at 11:29 am
When commentors start comparing themselves to LeBron is when the entire site should be shut down. Sheesh.

    • Homie Posted: Dec.31 at 11:29 am
Moose, if you’re Non-Homie, then does that make me the non-Moose?

    • Moose Posted: Dec.31 at 11:31 am
BETCATS, I’m not LeBron. Nobody’s LeBron. However, I am twice as good as you are . . . or is that Boston-Raliegh? Sorry about that one. And yes he does, Eboy, but he didn’t eleven years ago. That’s my point.

    • Captain America Posted: Dec.31 at 11:33 am
      Mike Miller, ROY 2000-2001

    • Russ Bengtson Posted: Dec.31 at 11:36 am
I’m gonna go out on a limb and say that, at 13, LeBron was better than everyone on here is now, let alone when they were 13.

    • ciolkstar Posted: Dec.31 at 11:37 am
Probably a smart move by the Kid. Hold on, Moose is only 13?!

    • Fresh Posted: Dec.31 at 11:42 am
if you paid attention they having been saying from lst year that he probably wouldn’t be able to get out of his contract. And for getting a buy out for next year draft would be a little diffiult but a little bit easier. Also who doesnt want to be the number one pick in the draft

    • TADOne Posted: Dec.31 at 11:43 am
      (sigh)

    • Moose Posted: Dec.31 at 11:43 am
Homie, you’re not me . . . so I guess that makes you non-Moose. But the dude who called me that wasn’t very respectful, and hopefully you are, so . . .

    • Moose Posted: Dec.31 at 11:43 am
Russ is right. I’m more in the Jordan mold. :)

    • Moose Posted: Dec.31 at 12:04 pm
Mr. Bengtson, I was just joking around, playin’ with Eboy.

    • Anton Posted: Dec.31 at 1:21 pm
he’s already better than Deron Williams

    • Gerard Himself Posted: Dec.31 at 1:49 pm
13 years old and talking smack like Gary Payton. Oh, by the way Moose, mr. Payton is that gentleman who was at his best when he played for the Sonics. Remember when Payton went to the Finals with the Sonics in 1996? Oh wait, you were only…. 1!!!!!!

    • Gerard Himself Posted: Dec.31 at 1:49 pm
      I am a dinosaur though. I’m 86.

    • Young Chris MP3 Posted: Dec.31 at 2:56 pm

You know that spanish agent is right americans are crazy about having players in the league as soon as possible, they’re way too much pressure put on the guys from high school, way too early, over here in the UK,teams in Football and pretty much any other sport, including american ones, grow they’re own talent and that way they’re a lot less pressure on young guys

    • Moose Posted: Dec.31 at 6:13 pm
I’m just joking, guys. I guess I should have clarified that, sorry.

    • Nbk Posted: Dec.31 at 6:14 pm
but the american guys are more often then not better and in most cases the ones that get all the pressure out of high school are succesfull. (The ones that go out of high school with no hopes of a lottery selection are ilinformed children that were not given proper advice by those close to them) Those like LeBron James, Kevin Garnet, Kobe Bryant, Jermaine O’Neal, Tracy McGrady, Dwight Howard, Tyson Chandler, etc. were pressured by everyone around to go, and were guaranteed to go in the first round w/ guaranteed contracts (like ricky rubio would be) have had more success then the average player who goes to college for 2-4 years. Going to college to develope is not in any way a proven way to make a kid a better pro, (unless that kid is a below lottery level talent or has not matured physically). What I am saying is just because the UK does not put pressure on their young guys to go to the NBA does not mean they don’t do the exact same thing. I may be off by a little bit but i believe Ricky Rubio was 14 when he played his first PROFESSIONAL basketball game, and in the United States you can’t play in the top League until your 19. All of Europe puts just as much pressure on a person to go professional but European ball in general does not put pressure on individual success and that is the difference between the UK and the US.

    • Nbk Posted: Dec.31 at 6:21 pm
And if Ricky Rubios agent represents other players in Euro League I bet he would like the teams to trust him as an agent who is not screwing their club out of money because their is no way staying in the euroleague for another year will not make more money for DKV then if Ricky left and they received his buyout. And if Ricky is not loosing money, and DKV is not loosing money, my bet is during these tough financial times his Agent is not loosing money. (I say this because I believe I read Ricky’s family and Ricky do not plan on trying to make a marketing brand out of his career.) If thats the case then Germa’n González has no money to lose by keeping him in Europe.

    • stephen curry is amazing Posted: Dec.31 at 8:37 pm
I HATE RICKY RUBIO!!!!!! i hope that b***h stays in europe his whole life!!!!! u suck rubio

No need to rush coming to the Memphis and forming a 3 head future monster with Rudy Gay and Oj Mayo that would lose 50 games a year for 4 years.
