Amare on His Future, Possibly Outside of Phoenix

by Marcel Mutoni

It seems that practically everyone is frustrated in Phoenix these days. Guys are having a tough time adjusting to the new system, and some are loudly wondering if they’re playing in the right city - none more so than Amare Stoudemire.

STAT was asked to clarify comments published last week about his free agency in 2010, and Amare did not shy away from them in the least.

From the East Valley Tribune:

When told that fans have taken his words to mean he is eyeing a move out of Phoenix, Stoudemire said: “I have no idea. I have no clue. It will play out how it plays out. Nostradamus is long gone, and there is no one else who can predict the future right now. You never know how it ends up.”

Does that mean he has no preference when it comes to staying or leaving? “No, I really don’t,” he said. “I just want to win. I just want to win. I’m just trying to improve as a player. As a team, we’re trying to get better. That’s the main focus right now, to improve.”

I don’t think there’s any doubt that Phoenix will give Amare whatever it is that he wants two years from now; with Shaq presumably gone by then, and Nash well into his career downslope, the Suns will unquestionably be Stoudemire’s team.

What remains to be seen is if Amare will want to stick around once he gets what he desires.

    not surprised.

meanwhile, Kevin Durant says he’s committed in staying in OKC. Weird, but loyal, right?

  • RV Posted: Dec.2 at 12:02 pm
Houston would be perfect, well for me anyway.

  • Keith Posted: Dec.2 at 12:03 pm
Good to see that Amare is prepared to stand by the team that stood by him when he was injured.

  • Myles Brown Posted: Dec.2 at 12:04 pm
If he comes to Minnesota he wont have to guard Al Jefferson anymore.

  • Lz - Cphfinest3 Posted: Dec.2 at 12:10 pm
    Loyalty, it’s FANtastic.

  • TADOne Posted: Dec.2 at 12:10 pm
I hear Detroit will have a ton of cap space.

  • NBK Posted: Dec.2 at 12:11 pm
Ofcourse he is going to say I don’t know, he is going to look for offers but Phoenix can pay him the most money. Hopefully Steve Kerr knows how to rebuild the team without starting at ground zero because that is what it will take to keep him.

A lot of people are talking about LeBron to the Knicks in 2010 but they have a better shot at Amare as it stands right now.

  • TADOne Posted: Dec.2 at 12:20 pm
I’m just happy Charles has something else to talk about.

  • Jess Posted: Dec.2 at 12:22 pm
Bryan Colangelo needs to work some magic here….

  • Sparker Posted: Dec.2 at 12:35 pm
steve kerr: executive of the year

  • Bryan Posted: Dec.2 at 12:38 pm
Do the suns just breed malcontents or what?

  • TADOne Posted: Dec.2 at 12:39 pm
    Nice one Shia.

  • ciolkstar Posted: Dec.2 at 12:40 pm
Amare will probably get max offers from a couple different teams. Where he winds up will depend on his relationship with the Suns coach/organization as well as his relationships with other players and his desire to live or to not live in a certain city/state, etc…
If Bosh and Bron in NYC happens I could see Amare trying to compete by pairing himself with another young star…

  • Roy Posted: Dec.2 at 12:45 pm
Stat will most likely go to an Eastern Conference team. But then again….

  • Jukai Posted: Dec.2 at 1:01 pm
Gerard Himself: Durant is young and they have an infinite amount of first round picks and cap room. I’m not surprised.

  • ballinpro24 Posted: Dec.2 at 1:07 pm
This Phoenix Team is on its way down. They were in their prime between the years of 2004-2007. But they could never past the semi or finals of the Western Conference. GOOD BYE FAREWELL UNTIL WE MEET AGAIN

  • Mo Charlo Posted: Dec.2 at 1:08 pm
The Suns are Rome after their empire crumbled. Except that they really never reached the apex. It’s too bad. They just fell short too many times. They should’ve won in ‘06.

  • Be A Real Fan Posted: Dec.2 at 1:10 pm
I thought Amare wasn’t feeling D’Antoni. Hasn’t he had the most shiz to say about his former coach now that Mike is in NY? So, back to LeBron in 2010. I see Marion to NY before Amare

  • Ryne Nelson Posted: Dec.2 at 1:20 pm
Be Real: Amare wasn’t feeling D’Antoni because his system wasn’t going to win them a championship. He’s not going to be happy, like most max-type players, until he’s got the Hall of Fame on lock.

  • Theo Papaloukas Posted: Dec.2 at 1:56 pm
No team will ever win an NBA title with Amare as it’s best player. He ain’t catastrofic like the cartoons but he ain’t hall of fame material either…maybe if he hadn’t been injured…

  • Theo Papaloukas Posted: Dec.2 at 2:00 pm
By the way: Chris Bosh way better than Amare. (it may seem rational now, but i was telling you all the summer…)

  • TADOne Posted: Dec.2 at 2:03 pm
It is only 2 pm here Eastern Standard Time. From where Theo is posting from, happy hour must have came and gone.

  • Ryne Nelson Posted: Dec.2 at 2:03 pm
Papaloukas: You’re right and you’re wrong. Amare has to be the no. 1b on a championship squad. True. And…Chris Bosh <<< Amare. But I’m not going to argue this here–it’s an Amare post.

  • Josh D Posted: Dec.2 at 2:12 pm
He’ll probably go back to the valley of the sun, but if not Knicks might nab him, San Antonio would be a possibilty if he learnt to play D

  • InsideOut Posted: Dec.2 at 2:14 pm
Question: If Bosh does defect from Toronto for greener pastures, does he become the next VC for Toronto?

  • Theo Papaloukas Posted: Dec.2 at 2:30 pm
    @TADOne….:what is happy hour?

  • Theo Papaloukas Posted: Dec.2 at 2:34 pm
@Ryne…:Wait for the second part until Amare gets traded to a team without a genious-selfless point guard and with no run&gun style of play. You won’t believe in your eyes when he suffers a similar to Marion’s decline in his production(although he will still be an all-star)…

  • Jesse G Posted: Dec.2 at 2:38 pm
Living in Arizona and watching every suns game, I don’t blame Amare one bit for being upset. The way the suns management and coach have handled Shaq with this team is pretty much a slap in the face to Nash and Amare if you ask me. It’s pretty clear to us fans in Arizona that when we run our team through amare things go good and when they run things through shaq (which is what is going on) things aren’t so good. 9 shots a game for your BEST player is a joke!

  • Rubens Posted: Dec.2 at 3:02 pm
c’mon theo stop drinking dude, no way bosh is better than sun tzu, did the nickname catch on yet?

  • TADOne Posted: Dec.2 at 3:04 pm
Wait….wait. What!? A decline similiar to Marion’s when he left Phoenix?! Are you serious? Have you seen Amare play?

  • Beth Posted: Dec.2 at 3:09 pm
I agree with Jesse G! It’s a different story when you’re actually sitting there and watching the games, watching the players interact on the bench and during timeouts. It’s no chemistry. And if STAT isn’t touching the ball as much as he was last season, of course he’s not going to be as good as he can be. Of course defense would help but more touches gets his confidence and swagger on point! We all know that!

  • Theo Papaloukas Posted: Dec.2 at 3:16 pm
    @TADOne….:no i haven’t.
@Rubens….:he ain’t better. he is WAY better.More complete offensive game, much better defender, solid character-team guy.Basically it is no contest but the video gamers always need to see stats first to make up their mind….

  • Aaron Posted: Dec.2 at 3:34 pm
It’s time for Amare to go. Trade him before his knees give out again or before he completely destroys our locker room. This is yet another guy with great ability but zero bball IQ. Get picks and an All-Star quality player and move on.

  • Brandon Hoffman Posted: Dec.2 at 3:40 pm
It looks like the Heat and Suns have their work cut out for them. Both teams are in jeopardy of losing their franchise player after acquiring the Diesel.

  • vmcb Posted: Dec.2 at 3:45 pm
He’d look real good beside Bosh in Toronto.

  • collin Posted: Dec.2 at 3:47 pm
Chris Bosh is definitely better than STAT. Maybe amare should go to golden state. they seem to be really good at getting players who are good, but then do nothing for their team. (corey maggette for example)

  • Niio Posted: Dec.2 at 3:57 pm
Lebron and Bosh, STAT and Wade. I would love to see them battle each other in the playoffs!

  • BETCATS Posted: Dec.2 at 4:00 pm
BETstradamus is in the building, he is saying that Amare and D-Wade will become Knicks in the future, but Lebron will go to the Nets.

  • Kieran Posted: Dec.2 at 4:01 pm
Stat will be a beast no matter where he plays and with the way his jumper is improving I’m sure he will get his regardless of who is playing point.
@ theo, you just need to stop you have become a parody of yourself already.

  • Theo Papaloukas Posted: Dec.2 at 4:07 pm
@Kieran….:i am already a parody (greek word by the way: “parodia”.it has a great etimology-another greek word!!! )and a parody of a parody many times ends up being quite serious. So….thanks for the complement my little friend. Go do your homework now and then straight to bed!!!

  • Dutch Rich Posted: Dec.2 at 4:17 pm
    I smell Diesel fumes.

  • LA Huey Posted: Dec.2 at 4:58 pm
Amare is more of a headache than he’s worth. There are FIBA ballers (not including Yao) that are a stronger defensive presence than him. And for someone with as much athleticism as he does, that’s embarrassing.

  • Kieran Posted: Dec.2 at 5:02 pm
Dont you think hes starting to show improvement on the defensive end though? By the end of the season Amare could be considered a respectable defender. If he adds that to his game he will be one of the top 5 players in the L.

  • Theo Papaloukas Posted: Dec.2 at 5:10 pm
    @Kieran….:top-3!!!!(go to bed now,please….)

  • Jesse G Posted: Dec.2 at 6:05 pm
Of course I’m going to be a little biased in the whole amare vs bosh debate, but people who don’t watch amare all the time don’t realize how good this guy is. His jumper is pretty much automatic…..he doesn’t just dunk anymore like people think. I’m not going to sit here and say he is a great defender or anything, but he has gotten better. He is definitly not as worthless as people try to make him out to be.

  • TADOne Posted: Dec.2 at 7:10 pm
    I’m a big idiot

  • TADOne Posted: Dec.2 at 7:19 pm
    And I like potatoes

  • jaymes Posted: Dec.2 at 7:26 pm
@theo..Yesterday you were saying how good Calderon is, now Bosh? Phoenix are 11-7 and Toronto are 8-8, i’d take Amare and Nash at the minute over Jose and Bosh, what you reckon?

  • alexinchains Posted: Dec.2 at 7:46 pm
Amare is such a great player…it is december….there is a long way to playoffs…and im sure my suns will do just fine…with a happy STAT and a focused Nash and Shaq they will go far in the post season even with the stupidity of Steve Kerr.

  • Moose Posted: Dec.2 at 7:46 pm
They need to stop asking players questions about the 2010 free agency. If they keep it up, mini-controversies will come . . . whoops, too late. But seriously, it seems like they’re almost asking the players to accidently say that they hate their team or something. Guys should just say “I’m not thinking about that, I just want to help my team win now.”

  • chintao Posted: Dec.3 at 1:31 am
“What remains to be seen is if Amare will want to stick around once he gets what he desires.” That closing ignores the quote above, where Amare says that all he wants is to win. Yes, it’s probably P.R.B.S.; but, to include the quote and then ignore it in favor of the money angle is kind of weak.

  • CiB Posted: Dec.3 at 3:25 am
Cosign chintao… N theo is hilarious

  • Theo Papaloukas Posted: Dec.3 at 3:29 am
jaymes….:you could compare their supporting stuff for a start…(come on,that was too easy!!)

  • ClydeSays Posted: Dec.3 at 9:53 am
Amare should spend the next couple of years learning how to play D if he wants Franchise money.

  • zeke Posted: Dec.3 at 10:53 pm
Suns need to trade Amare as soon as possible. He is a selfish type of player. I doubt he will ever want to play D.
