Amar’e Stoudemire’s Debut Blog

STAT weighs in on Drumma Boy, All-Star and asks for your questions.

This is real. Amar’e Stoudemire will be writing a blog for SLAMonline.com on a regular basis this season. He’ll do his best to respond to reader’s comments in the comments section (when he can) and address questions in future blog posts. So without any further ado, we give you STAT Blog 01…

Hey SLAM Readers,

I’m looking forward to writing my blog on SLAM. They’ve given me the opportunity to communicate directly with you guys through their website, so thanks SLAM!

Looking at our team’s stats, the offensive rebounding was down, so that’s where my emphasis has been. For the past couple games, I think my play has improved and speaks for itself. As a team, we are still adjusting to the new coaching staff, and we are trying to get better each and every day. I’ve been watching a lot of film of my future opponents and studying their tendencies, strengths, weaknesses, including their mental toughness, so that I can play my best when I match up with them. As I’m writing this, we just had a big trade happen, so I’ll be sure to write my thoughts on that in my next blog.

I met up briefly with TI in LA to talk about some business collaborations. It was really great to meet him, since I’m a big fan of his music. I also want to give props to my boy, Drumma Boy for being nominated for a Grammy!

Be sure to check out my blogs with SLAM on SLAMonline.com as I have some good stories to tell. I’m also excited about the All-Star game being in my town and all the events lined up! I’ll be relaunching a new website soon, so check it out at www.AmareStoudemire.com.

    Welcome to the jungle

  • monrats

    cool!!

  • http://slamonline.com Khalid Salaam

Dude, you should give your blog a name.

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com Moose

Can’t wait, Amare. Oh yeah, I’m Moose. You’ll be seeing me up here a lot. Anything else on me, click my name. But enough fishing for NBA players to know who I am . . . sorry for bugging you. But I’m excited for this blog.

  • thesubwayconnection

    Dear STAT,

Thank you for blessing us, your fans with wonderful offensive play this year. I look forward to hearing your thoughts on the J-Rich trade.

    PS: Please stop flopping.

  • http://www.ballislife.com Justin Walsh

Khalid, what do you think he should name his blog?

  • http://slamonline.com Khalid Salaam

    That’s up to him.

  • http://www.ballislife.com Justin Walsh

Fair ’nuff. Knowing him, it’ll be mint edition level stuff. What I really want to know is how STAT looks so HAPPY right there!

  • http://nba.com tealish

First matter of business needs to be in reference to your Oscar-worthy flops this year. My goodness.

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com Moose

I recommend . . . “STAT’s Opponent Stakeout”. Complete with alliteration and all.

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com Moose

    Wasn’t that cute?

  • http://allday-fadeaway.blogspot.com Nbk

yo sun tzu (i heard thats your new nickname) i’m readin that art of war and heard you were too, you able to incorporate what you read in the book onto the court at all?

  • cordeazy

    this was wack

  • http://www.ballislife.com Justin Walsh

Sun TZU is a nice nickname. Moose, it was cute.

  • BigWalt206

Amare, I wanna know where I get get some of those hot ass sport glasses..Also, I think you should have gone with some Horace Grant type goggles…one orange pair, one purple pair

  • http://www.slamonline.com Ryan Jones

    Dear Amare,
A lot of 12 year olds will post things on here under made-up names that will be both needlessly critical and stunningly ill-informed. So, you know, heads up.
    Love,
    Farmer Jones (we’re blog friends!)

  • http://www.twofistedpress.com Pve84

Amar’e, on a completely non-basketball related note, I’ve been hearing family rumors for a few years and I’m not sure if they’re true, but back when you were at Cypress Creek High School how well did you know Jessica Basora? I know it’s a way back, but again, this would settle some family issues.

  • BETCATS

    Amare,
Thanks for giving me one more thing to read. I am not gonna kiss your a$$ like some other people and offer you ‘cute knicknames’ but i am looking forward to reading whatever you write. Also, i am a Bobcats fan, and i never saw Jared Dudley dunk when he was with my team, can you ask him why he never attempted one? I know you wont but i wish you would.
    -Betcats

  • http://allday-fadeaway.blogspot.com Nbk

    WoW

  • j

Was it more difficult sitting and watching the team play while you had to go through rehabilitation? Or is it more difficult to translate your game into a new coach and system?

  • http://allday-fadeaway.blogspot.com Nbk

For your information BET amare got that nickname from a sportswriter it was between sun tzu and the punisher

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com BETCATS

Nbk, i was refering to moose, not everything is about you, stop being so selfish.

PS- Amare i am eating Pizza right now, isnt that so cool that i am telling Amare Stoudemire i am eating some Pizxa? I think it is.

  • http://allday-fadeaway.blogspot.com Nbk

mayeb you should learn the difference between a nickname and a name for a blog then.

  • http://slamonline.com Tzvi T

STATS J’ has improved to the point where it’s reminding me alil of Karl Malone’s baseline J’.

  • http://www.ballislife.com Justin Walsh

haha, I think it’s funny what BET said about “Amare i am eating Pizza right now, isnt that so cool that i am telling Amare Stoudemire i am eating some Pizxa? I think it is. ” Ah, this guy

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com Moose

@ Ryan Jones: Was that a subtle shot at me? Just wondering . . .

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com BETCATS

    Nbk,
maybe i should have also learned the difference between your mom and a cow, but lets not bring that here.

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com Moose

And very funny, BETCATS. It was a joke, dude. Think you know that, though . . .

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com BETCATS

and Pizxa is like Pizza but with a x. you would understand, but your from Texas, Justin.

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com BETCATS

and i am just being a d0uche now because i am happy i only got 1/2 a day worth of school left. -pats self on back-

  • http://www.ballislife.com Justin Walsh

Naw, BET, I wasn’t laughing about the pizxa, it was just cool the way you wrote it i pictured a mean joe green passes you the jersey moment. like it was a rare innocent moment for you. Moose, Ryan Jones was most likely responding to cordeazy or whatever the hell he spelled that like saying “that was wack” or something to that effect about the blog

  • http://allday-fadeaway.blogspot.com Nbk

the difference between my mom and a cow, unlike most cows my mom has never been violated by your dad

  • http://www.ballislife.com Justin Walsh

    Nbk with the excellent comeback.

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com BETCATS

you realize i have been raised by my grandparents and mother, and have had nothing ever to do with my father, i find that comment very ammusing?

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com BETCATS

but Nbk (the Nugget-sized blownback kid?) you have a long mountain to climb before you can diss me. We all remember the top 50 arguments quite well. Lets not bring it to STATs house

  • http://www.ballislife.com Justin Walsh

Yes, let STATS house be a sanctuary!

  • http://allday-fadeaway.blogspot.com Nbk

what do you know about me bet? You talk about my family im gonna talk about yours but looking for sympathy is cute

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com BETCATS

not looking for sympathy, if i wanted you to cry me a river i would throw salt in your eyes. I am looking for respect, something i have earned and you havent.

  • http://ittakesanationofmillionstoholdthissac.blogspot.com ciolkstar

    FANTASY HOOPS QUESTION:
Beasley just got dropped in my league, I have the #1 waiver priority. Should I drop Thaddeus Young to grab him?

  • http://allday-fadeaway.blogspot.com Nbk

you may have earned it with the people here but i am not them, i am not going to let you talk ish and let it go because someone here respects you.

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com BETCATS

but lets chill, i provoked this, so lets chill, its STATs blog, lets not screw it up.

  • http://allday-fadeaway.blogspot.com Nbk

I have thaddeus and Beasley on my team right now and i can tell you thaddeus gives me less headaches beasley is far too inconsistent

  • http://allday-fadeaway.blogspot.com Nbk

oh yeah bet no hard feelings

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com/ RV

wow, way to ruin Stat’s first blog entry guys…i’m sure he’ll be thrilled writing for ya in the future….my question is, what defender surprised you the most the first time you matched up with him, and why?

  • http://ittakesanationofmillionstoholdthissac.blogspot.com ciolkstar

I’m still not sure, because Thad has cooled off considerably and is also not starting right now. But thanks for responding. This is the only place where I can go with a hoops related question…

  • http://allday-fadeaway.blogspot.com Nbk

my bad stat didn’t mean to treat this like a normal post

  • http://ittakesanationofmillionstoholdthissac.blogspot.com ciolkstar

This is crazy. One of the biggest reasons why SLAM is cool is that top players also think its cool and want to be a part of it. @Amare: Any response to Shaq’s “I can get 27 and 10 with my eyes closed” statement today?Sorry I tried to jack the thread with fantasy nonsense. Where’s Emry at anyway?

  • http://www.ravingblacklunatic.blogspot.com Big Man

Do people really think Amare is going to answer their questions?

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com/ Money Bill Williams

    Hi Amare,
I am your biggest fan in the world! When I turn 13 next week I want to be able to dunk like you! Can you send me heaps of signed Suns stuff to PO Box 773 Dapto NSW Australia 2500. Thanks your the best

  • Dwyane

Amare I love your game I love ur dunk and I have a question: how did u train your vertical to dunk I know theres alot of programs out there but I want to learn what an NBA player did? or how did other great NBA players u know do it?

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com/ RV

Big Man, are you calling SLAM a liar??

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com/ Money Bill Williams

In all seriousness, this is one of the greatest idea’s Slam has had. However I totally agree with the Farmer that it could turn out to be an immature disaster (think top 50!)

Also, Jukai hates every single commenter on Slam (Including the writers).Jukai’s favourite team is the Suns. STAT is now a commenter. Can anybody else see where this is going?

PS: BET, that salt in your eyes line was downright spectacular. NC’s finest right there!

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com/ Money Bill Williams

RV whats good? What you say to another b’ball workout post on ‘Bachi2.0? I kinda liked the other one you did

  • Marcel Mutoni

great, another damn opinion on the internets. just what i needed!

    -kevin mchale.

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com/ RV

Money, I was thinking of another, but got lazy because of the holidays, moose is going to post a holiday post soon, so I’ll post one up after that, around the 1st of the year

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com Kid Presto

Hi, Stat. Do you think you guys became a better team when you added the big catcus? are you watching soap operas like steve remembering the good times of diaw and bell? Do you think you guys should have traded sour mouth Dragic instead of singletary? are you still dating ole girl from BET? alicia renea I believe? Do you like Gucci mane? hit me back guy. fly society.

  • Jesse G

Amare, You are the man! I think I speak for pretty much everyone that is a Suns fan and lives in AZ when i say……..Please don’t leave the Suns in 2010!

  • http://www.xtremecouture.ca LeeVan

    Dear Mr. Stoudemire,
I would like to suggest the titles “the STATus Quo” or “STAT’s QUOtes” for your slamonline blog.

    Sincerely,
    LeeVan the wordsmith

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com Hursty

What up Amar’e. Nice to have you on board here on slam. Sorry that people on here have destroyed the comment board already btw.
This may sound somewhat childish, but if you were to choose a tattoo (how many do you have?) would it be because it had a significance to you? Or because it looks great?
    Thanks.

  • http://shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

This is perhaps the coolest thing the SLAM Fam has come up with it since it’s on-line inception. Amare, welcome, and please stay healthy and get that squad running right…..too many detractors around this place regarding your team’s place in the game at the moment.

  • http://slamonline.com Ryan Jones

I wasn’t referring to anyone in particular. Probably.

  • http://groups.myspace.com/sunsmyspace GaryB

    Hey Amare,

Thanks for taking your time to do this for us, I look forward to being able to interact with you and ask some questions.

And thanks from all the people at the most popular Suns Myspace group! groups.myspace.com/sunsmyspace

  • http://twentythreenine.blogspot.com Russ Bengtson

Hey Amar’e, welcome. If you’re looking for questions to answer, who helped the most in easing your transition from high school to the NBA? And as an unrelated follow, what, if anything, have you learned from Shaq since he became your teammate? Thanks, and again, welcome.

  • Bob

Here’s some idea’s for the blog name:

    1. Underacheiver
    2. Too Many Jump Shots
    3. Kazaam’s Better
    4. Too Lazy To Rebound
    5. I Miss D’Antonio

  • http://www.another48minutes.blogspot.com Gerard Himself

    Hi Amare,
Good to see you here at SLAMonline.com. Looking forward to many more posts, welcome man!

  • http://www.slamonline.com Jack

Hey STAT, good to have you here =). I have one small question. Is T.I really as short as he looks on person? I mean especially standing with you, he would hve to be like a foot and a half shorter than you.

  • Big O

What up with that Mo-hawk fam? its kinda on the nasty side lol

  • http://www.mykal1.blogspot.com MyKal

Bob, here’s some ideas for you:
    1. Shut
    2. The
    3. Hell
    4. Up

You better get this on record, for once I am defending a big man (defending in a figurative sense, I can’t guard Amare). Amare is my favourite (notice the “u”) big man, period. I always wanted to say that so I’ll do it again, period!

  • http://www.myfreesport.com LexaB

Hey STAT, welcome around here, looking forward to everything you’ll write!!! Quick question : how much will Bell and Diaw be missed on the court???

  • http://www.hoopsvibe.com/nba/overdribbling/index276-pa30.html chiqo

it would be awesome if players could really be candid on their blogs without fear of repercussion from their teams or the league. cause i’d definitely ask where amare’s gonna go when his contract is up, cause staying in phoenix is not an option.

  • k.o.

    1. That was underwhelming. This isn’t Slam mag, step up ur blog game Amare.

    2. Co-sign LeeVan on the blog names – best suggestions thus far.

    3. There should be an age limit on poster’s-or at least an education level. I vote at least a high school grad. This would limit lame pizza comments etc.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ TADOne

Welcome Amare. This is a pleasant surprise on a wonderful Friday. My question to you:
With the addition of Jason Richardson, where do you see the Suns among the Western Conference playoff contenders?

  • JoAnn

Great!Hope to know more about you outside court. It seems you’r always with a business mind. Would you like to tell us what collabrations you and T.I. are talking about?

Anyway back to the court, honestly I’m a bit disappointed at your team this season by far. Everything was good at the beginning, but it just suddenly went down when suffering a losing streak…I really hope the J-Rich trade will add some energy to you guys. And keep going, want to see you guys back before the All-star weekend!

  • http://deleted Fresh

this is going to be crazy and have alot of criticsm. i wonder how he would respone to these

  • Ronald

    so cool!!!~~~~

  • Michael

Slam needs to get way more sophisticated on the comments. For something like this questions should be submitted to Lang or whoever at Slam, who can then pose them to Amare to answer. Too hard to cut through all the bullsh*t to find legitimate questions

  • casey

I’m excited about your new blog. I’m sure I’ll be reading some interesting stories..when I have a chance to get on here. Keep doin your thing man..you’re a beast!

  • http://www.xtremecouture.ca LeeVan

Here’s another gem of a potential blog name for your bling collection, SLAM heads:
“Grand Master STAT- The Furious Scribe”

  • jaywhy

wow there’s a huge number of replies so i dont know if you’ll see mine… huge fan of yours… tough loss today but it was a good game, the 8 assists were sweet… ;)

  • nastierthanyou

Amare make sure you bring some sort of disinfectant so when you read thisyou can clean off the grime from the pole jockers.

  • http://amarestoudemire.com STAT

Yo Nbk, there’s an Art of War quote, “if you know both yourself and your enemy, you can come out of hundreds of battles without danger” that I go by. If you get to REALLY know your opponent, you will be successful.

  • http://amarestoudemire.com STAT

Hey Big Walt, that’s a good idea about the sunglasses. I wore Oakley on the court, and Louis Vuitton makes some pretty nice ones too. I have to say they were comfortable, but not when playing, so I’m glad that I don’t need to wear them anymore.

  • http://amarestoudemire.com STAT

J, It’s definitely more difficult sitting and watching the team without contributing. As a team, we are so versatile, we can adjust to any situation, but when you can only sit on the bench and not contribute, of course, that is the hardest.

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com/ RV

and the best question of all, how do we know when the real Amar’e is answering questions???

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com Kid Presto

Hey STAT, how do you feel about the addition of J-rich? You think he will ease the lose of Bell and Diaw?

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com/ Moose

Amar’e, I have a question. Who is the hardest guy to guard that you have ever covered? I might have an idea, I just don’t know because I’ve never done it. And another question: What does it feel like to dunk on somebody? I’ve never done it/probably never will, so I’m wondering.

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com/ Moose

Sorry, I guess I should’ve called you Mr. Stoudemire. Another question: Who is the retired player/legend/current player who you’ve looked up to the most in your life as a basketball player and as a person? Your sort of role model as, say, a thirteen year old?

  • http://www.ballislife.com Justin Walsh

any other philosophy that helps you with basketball? Sun Tzu is fresh, but do we have anybody else in there giving advice?

amare. i know the season hasnt gone exactly how you’ve planned and there were some complaints, but i have to ask you as a die hard suns fan:

are you 100% commited to taking the PHOENIX SUNS and only the phoenix suns to an NBA championship?

p.s.: amare=best player in NBA no doubt

  • donielc

good luck w/the blog… how about “STATLINE” for the name? u r very underrated, and i, for one, appreciate the greatness of your game…

  • LKL

    Amare I support you !
