Breaking: Sam Mitchell Fired!

One of my favorite coaches in League history, if only for his fiery press conferences and stubborn insistence on running the same play over and over and over, has been fired. According to Yahoo!!!!!!!!!!!! Sports, the Toronto Raptors have ended the Sam Mitchell era following last night’s 39-point demolition at the hands of the Denver Nuggets. Former Canadian National Team coach and current Raptors assistant Jay Triano will assume head coaching duties.

    What the fu(k!!! That is one of the stupidest moves in sports history…great coach, been with Bosh since just about day one, and they fire him after one terrible game! I’ve always believed (excluding Boston and Miami 2 yrs ago) that the best teams are the ones that keep their core together, INCLUDING the coach…damn this sucks

    It’s a shame to see him go, but the team is off to another slow start and Colangelo had to make an executive decision. I think it’s a bad call, but a call that needed to be made nonetheless.

    They could have done this a long time ago and it would have been a smart and prudent decision. Now it’s just reactionary. That’s how organizations start falling apart. Yikes.

    The firing was no surprise, but not the answer. Other than Bosh, Calderon has no one to pass to who can score on a consistent basis, they should throw a second rounder to Oakland for Morrow to backup Parker, or a combination of Big Italy, and another raptor guard for someone decent who can actually help.

    It’s about friggin time. Smitch is a good coach and will find another job sooner rather than later, with that being said, he is just not the right fit 4 this team @ this point in time. Thx 4 the sound bites Sam. BC knows what he’s doin so just lay off guys!!!!

    It’s about damn time. Sam Mitchell is a horrible coach, was a horrible player (google his NBA career stats), and he’s a horrible guy. He’s a jerk to the media, and he treats others as if they are all below him. He benched Chris Humphries for no good reason (yes, he isn’t an all-star, but he’s still friggin’ good- GIVE HIM A CHANCE!). Anyway, when I heard this, I jumped out of my seat with joy. Finally, it’s about time. Good on ya, Bryan Colangelo.

    Have you ever seen a more pathetic offense?
    I will miss his candidness with the media though. I liked him off the court. However, you can’t have a team with this much talent be underachieving like they have been.

    They should have fired Sam a few years ago, but then he miraculously won Coach of The Year. The Raptors should look at Flip Saunders if they’re in need of offense — he’s a wizard.
