Adding injury to insult last night, Elton Brand strained his right hamstring.

    Would anyone notice the difference?

Sixers: unofficial underachievers of 2008/2009 season so far…

Brand,is he a among the most disappointed player this year

  • RedRum

somewhere in LA, some execs and a certain coach are laughing…

  • chris

@redrum- Because the clippers sure have a lot to laugh about

Brand has been underwhelming but not underachieving. His numbers aren’t eye-popping but he hasn’t been a bust either. Its really been iguodala and mo cheeks who have performed like crap. But not Brand. Please watch games and not highlights. Everyday you people come on here and embarrass yourselves. Its sorta getting old.

my issue with the sixers isnt with brand, it’s the fact that iggy is a so called franchise player. on any other team, he would be a second option. it’s mildly ridiculous.

Maybe this is what it will take for Thad Young to get some plays run for him by Mo Cheeks. Which signing was worse: Andre Iguodala or Elton Brand? I actually think the 76ers were better last year. Long, lean and quick, forcing TOs, getting out on the break, playing good D… Brand’s focal presence in the offense and Iguodala thinking he’s Kobe has changed all of that.

    Elton Brand stats currently:
16/10 with a block and a half on 45% shooting.
Expectations of Elton Brand by checking his best years in LA:
20-24/9-11 with over two blocks a game on 50-53% shooting.
It’s also probably needed to note that Andre’s rebounds, assists, and blocks are up while save for a bit of rebounding, Brand’s is down across the board.

Justin is right. Iguodala makes my eyes hurt. It’s depressing to watch his alpha dog act. Get real, mister!

Also, Brand’s injured, although I guess that is MEETING expectations.

Well, maybe it’s just me, but I’d expected the Sixers to be a top 5 team in the East this year. Of course the post season is far in front of us.

Justin, Iggy isn’t even the first option on this Sixer’s team. I’m not sure about right now, but about two weeks ago, he was fourth on the team in shots attempted.

It appears that, although they signed him for it, they are not, in practice, structuring the team around him. If they focused on him, the production would be there.

i don’t get to watch sixer games all that much, but i do have andre miller on my fantasy team and i notice he usually takes the most shots. is this detrimental to the team?

  • LA Fan

I think Elton Brand is just trying to find himself within this new offense. When a player of his caliber is placed on a new team with new players, it takes time to build chemistry and get comfortable. It should also be noted that Andre Miller is not the greatest at penetrating, which makes Brand shoot more from the top of the key and baseline which of course are considered high percentage shots, but not when a forward is shooting them. I think the Sixers will improve, they truly need to raise the tempo evident by the fact that they seem to score in bunches and not consistently throughout the quarters. Andre Miller is a great pg, but he is not using the talents of his teammates. Not one person’s fault, they just haven’t found the right strategy yet.

Iguodala can’t get into the lane as effectively in the half court or when its packed with defenders covering EB. He does most of his damage in transition and on hustle plays. The hustle plays are mostly still there and his assists totals have been nice. But watching him play has been painful. It’s so obvious that teams want him to shoot, they sag off him constantly and he over dribbles because he’s reluctant to shoot. Then he’s out of rythym and the clock is winding down…
Iggy’s outside shot looks SO bad, like no chance of going in bad. The problem is that he keeps shooting it.

Brand just has no atheleticism anymore and has always been undersized and has had trouble scoring in the post over bigger defenders. I’ve been impressed by his rebounding and block number so far, but they need to establish a pick and pop game for him to even get close to the 20 ppg and high FG% people were expecting.

ciolkstar: I have to agree that they’re using Brand completely wrong. I really thought that the offense would be centered around Brand but it seems like they want to keep their old system and sort of make Brand score on post-ups and garbage baskets, which was never his strength to begin with. Still, I’m underwhelmed on the fact that Brand can’t really survive scoring in the post and on garbage baskets. Yes, Iggy has been playing awful, no doubt about it, but people seem to be protecting Brand an awful lot. He left his friend (Davis) out to dry in LA for a chance to get farther in the playoffs, and unless he works hard on getting his game on track with Philis (because he can’t wait for the team to get on track with his), he’s just going to look like a failure on all levels.
Davis would have been perfect with Brand’s game.
