Marbury Foils Real Madrid Hoax

by Marcel Mutoni

In the latest batsh*t crazy story involving Stephon Marbury, a couple of clowns apparently tried to fool him into believing they were wealthy Swiss bankers, with connections to the Real Madrid basketball club.

The NY Post has the sordid details:

The alleged investors, who identified themselves to The Post through phone calls and e-mails as working for Union Bank Suisse, gave their names and claimed they were trying to sign him to a multi-million dollar sponsorship contract that can be parlayed into a deal with the Real Madrid basketball club.

Marbury said he returned calls and e-mails from the investors Saturday. “They’re phonies, it’s a hoax,” said Marbury.

Hmm…A hoax you say? Methinks thinks something far more sinister was at play here.

Clearly, the Knicks are so desperate to get rid of Stephon that they’ll try just about anything. For shame, Donnie Walsh. For shame.

can i ask – how is this stunt donnie walsh’s fault? and also, as far as i know real madrid don’t have any commercial agreements with any swiss banks, so wouldnt it be a tad more believable saying that they were from banco santander – after all santander have the financial clout to do such a thing which would make it believable

  • matt the jazz fan

@ riggs – aren’t they basically already doing that?

  • http://www.ojhoops.blogspot.com the baconator

My favorite thing? It sounds like he actually tried to work out a deal with them. LOL! Is Starbury really that desperate that he’s willing to sign an offer from two shady “Swiss bankers” to play for Real Madrid? That’s just sad

  • Todd Spehr

I’d hate for him to contaminate my man Quinton Hosley anyway!

  • Jolst

You mean that Nigerian Prince really isn’t going to give me a cut of his €35m fortune? But I sent him the three grand and everything!

  • Ron

Can the Knicks sell his rights to a Euro team? They can’t get full value from another NBA franchise, but could they pocket cash from a Real Madrid club and then have them pay the rest of his contract?

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com/ RV

baconator…i dont think its sad at all, all he did was return their calls to hear them out, he obviously didn’t know they were shady until he called them back.

  • WhaHuh

    lol sergio ramos

  • rav

whats sergio ramos done?? or are you laughing at them hiring juande ramos as coach?

  • Fredo

LOL juande ramos — spurs’ rubbish is the best they can do?

  • rav

as long as they dont come after rafa in the summer i’m happy :)

  • rav

and going after juande ramos makes a move for marbury seem slightly credible

Stephon needs to found his own franchise (with blackjack and hookers). The Brooklyn Starburys.

Keep talking, Steph! I want something funny! “You need to get caught up in life . . . ” haha. We want more!

  • http://www.ojhoops.blogspot.com the baconator

RV, you don’t see anything funny about Steph returning phone calls from Swiss bankers about joining a foreign bball club? It’s like the stereotypical set-up! Well, that and what Izzo mentioned

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com Moose

baconator, check the comments on your blog!

  • Solito

UBS is soooo broke right now. Anybody with any banking knowledge would have emediately laughed at the notion of that.

  • Dallas J

Olympiakos is trying to sign him.

    **begin hoax**

I guess the Knicks were hoping Steph would take the bait but he didn’t bite into it. :D

  • Teddy-the-Bear

    Co-Sign RV.

Who cares what happens to Marbury. He’s yesterday’s news. He had his chance in Minnesota, Phoenix, New Jersey and New York and he screwed it all up especially in NY. Nobody should be even talking about him.

  • kiran

u guys juande ramos is a soccer coach, u know that don’t you? And starbury goin to Spain isn’t such a bad idea, works well for the knicks.

  • http://www.memorabiliasports.com Memorabilia Sports

Marbury is a cancer just like Dereck Coleman, Terrell Owens and many other athletes who think they are the only other player in the league. The only player who can behave like that is Lebron, Kobe and Wade.. and their maturity is shown in the fact that they do not behave poorly and do not create these kinds of poor public relations nightmares. Even the Kobe vs Shaq deals were light and funny, not serious. Think about it, The Knicks were considering trading a player to a team outside the NBA. And would have maybe even paid money for someone to take him out of the US. It’s just silly.
