Ray Felton Could Be The Next Bobcat To Go

by Ryne Nelson

A few weeks ago, Mutoni mentioned that “MJ is looking to make a big trade, one that would dramatically alter the look of the Charlotte Bobcats.”

As usual, Mutoni proved to be on point, but not entirely in the way the rumors predicted (pundits thought Gerald Wallace would be first on the trade block).

After this week’s trade, the Bobcats’ needs are different. As it stands now, Raymond Felton, D.J. Augustin and Raja Bell will fight for minutes in the Bobcats’ backcourt. The Arizona Republic’s Paul Coro says trading Felton makes sense:

Charlotte insisted on (Sean Singletary) being in the trade even though the Bobcats have Raymond Felton and D.J. Augustin. It has been rumored that Felton could be on the trading block and this will only fuel that more.

The Cats don’t seem comfortable with Felton playing off the ball, and it’s obvious Larry Brown wants his offense run solely by his 21-year-old rookie phenom.

Felton seems like the odd man out because he’s not the go-to scorer the team needs.

On a totally off topic note-
Would Stephon Marbury not be the perfect sign for the suns if he is ever made available? Wouldn’t he love to stick it to D’Antoni- And he would be the best backup PG in the league if he was happy. Plus in Phoenix he could still get like 15-30 minutes a night

I have no problem with this. DJ is a top notch PG, and my boy Sean Singeltary was lights out at V-Tech. Now if we bring Guerromo Diaz, the dude we were trying out in the summer leauge/pre-season to a contract and get a upgrade at power forward/shooting guard in exchange, it would be hard to see Felton go, but i would have no problem with it.

    “NBK says:
You think the bobcats would take that? I really really don’t, they are not going to take something that is a question mark for their starting PG. Really think about it the bobcats want a scorer they need a scorer and Felton is the only player they are willing to trade that can get them that. Maybe they can trade Felton in a three team where they get Gerald Green and Stackhouse (since they like vets-they just signed juwan) while the Kings get Felton and *Morrison* and the Mavs can make their bench more potent with Garcia and get some cap relief with Thomas.”
HELL NO, MORRISON>>>>GARCIA OR GERALD GREEN.

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com/ BETCATS

and all these dumb trades you guys are proposing are beyond me. We need one more good Power Forward, maybe a good reserve Small Forward, or another Reserve PF, for Felton plus like a 2nd round pick.

  • http://www.where-basketball-b-longs.blogspot.com/ B. Long

I’d take Gerald Green over Adam Morrison 10 days out of the week.

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com/ BETCATS

^You must not have seen Adam play recently. He has hit lots of clutch 3s for us this year. I like gerald though, Gerald Green+a 2nd Round pick for Felton would make me happy

  • http://slamonline.com/ Ryne Nelson

BET: What you need is a good center. What happened to those Crash trades in the summer?

  • http://www.ojhoops.blogspot.com the baconator

@BET: Hey, have you met Eddy Curry? Give him a summer of intense training, and he’ll be a decent power forward. Plus, you don’t need to worry about the salary cap cuz you can pay him off the dollar menu. How’s that sound?

  • http://slamonline.com/ Ryne Nelson

And Gerald Green is not an NBA starter.

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com/ BETCATS

Ryne: it was effecting his play, which made his trade value go down. Now that we wont trade him, he is gonna step up big. Also Ajinca has shown me lots of signs of promise recently. He is not a good center yet, but he will be. And eventually Ryan Hollins will step up. And Baconator: we got a player like that already and his name is Sean Freakin May.

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com/ BETCATS

Ryne, Gerald Wallce needs a reserve, Gerald Green would be a good fit for that.

  • http://slamonline.com/ Ryne Nelson

Great point about Ajinca. You had some serious hate for him in that preview, though. He’s not going to be great, but I can see Ajinca (at best) becoming a Haywood type.

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com/ BETCATS

Yeah, but in the preview i also said we would go 82-0 and eventually solve the Point Guard war by trading Felton. Only some of it was valid.

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com/ BETCATS

and Ryne the reason for that ‘hate’ was because we needed a power forward. Had we drafted Jason Thompson or Darrel Arthur, the J-Rich trade wouldnt had ever happend.

  • http://slamonline.com/ Ryne Nelson

Either way, no one’s high on Felton. It would seem like almost too smart of a move for M.J. to pull off. You’d figure he’ll end up trading D.J. for Corey Maggette.

  • http://slamonline.com/ Ryne Nelson

I still think taking Augustin was the best pick Michael Jordan’s ever made (not that that’s saying much). Why would you want another young power forward when you have a perfectly good one (Okafor) locked up for a long time?

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com/ BETCATS

Because that perfectly good one plays best as Center.

  • http://www.where-basketball-b-longs.blogspot.com/ B. Long

@Ryne:Neither is Adam Morrison. But I’d still take Green. He’s what, twenty yrs. old? I know his behavior has been erratic at best but he’s still got a helluva lot more upside than Adam Morrison at this point in his career.

  • http://www.where-basketball-b-longs.blogspot.com/ B. Long

    Gerald Green maybe=JR Smith 2.0?

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com/ BETCATS

^says the guy who obviously never saw Morrison play this season.

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com/ BETCATS

B.Long is that good thing? Taking 45 foot 3s is a good thing?

  • http://www.where-basketball-b-longs.blogspot.com/ B. Long

^It isn’t great but it’s better than Adam Morrison. And yes Adam has improved a lot now that he is actually suiting up. I’ve seen him knock down a few treys, but honestly BET, who would you rather have on your squad, Adam or J.R.?

  • http://chugachugachugachuchu.blogspot.com/ BETCATS

But its between Adam and Gerald.

  • http://where-basketball-b-longs.blogspot.com/ B. Long

True. I’m from Texas so I may be a little bias to my fellow Texan but I could see Gerald becoming a star in the right situation. He really has been playing solid this season.

  • MeloMan13

comparing Jr to morrison is foolishness. jr wins hands down

  • http://thesportsdiaryonline.blogspot.com Roy

it could work if the trade happens… :D

  • DruWil

It Adam Morrison still playing in the NBA?

  • Nbk

Adam morrison hitting a couple clutch threes is great and all but it’s not like he’s been preventing any threes, layups or any other type of offense with his defensive prowess . He’s a decent offensive player but day after day a one way player is made out to be way more valuable then he really is. Although gerald green is not a good defensve player he’s better then Morrison and has the potential to b better at every single facet of the game. Plus gerald greens contract is short and stackhouse expires little risk to alottery team. No offense bet

  • http://celtics.com KobeWearsAPurpleThong

Bet the Cats suck-that’s a sure bet.

  • http://www.bbl.org.uk Josh D

Gerald Wallace and Ray Felton to the Heat 4 The Matrix and Chris Quinn

  • Max

how about felton and morrison to the kings for thompson and salmons. That sounds like a good and reasonable trade for both sides (slightly better for charlotte but that doesnt mean anything, memphis traded gasol for basically nothing so…)

  • Nbk

Sorry max thats a complete steal, and the kings will not give their pf of the future up, especially with their 2nd leading scorer, if it were felton and wallace for salmons and miller that may make sense the salary’s are relaively close. And Brad Miller would help Emeka 100% more than Diaw will. Diaw will hurt everything the bobcats try and do and larry brown will quickly become sick of him

  • tealish

Felton had some key moments in tonight’s game. I just don’t know what the hell Michael Curry is doing.

  • jrp14

    Ridnour>>>>>Felton….blooocckkkaaa!!!

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com/ BETCATS

Josh D, a Bobcats team with Marion AND Diaw would make Larry Brown shoot himself in the foot or find some other excuse to leave the team and either retire or go coach his 2 favorite things- Allen Iverson and the Pistons. Diaw alone can be ‘cured’ of his ‘laziness’, but with Marion, thats a unstopable underachiving combonation that died in Phoneix and should stay dead. Forever.

  • http://celtics.com Charlotte Kittens

Too bad such a talented guy like G.Wallace is stuck on the Kittens. Hopefully he’ll get out of there. I think he will end up w/the Celtics.

  • http://celtics.com says:

Charlotte: wear empty seats nightly happens…

  • Nbk

The chances of him on the celtics happens any time soon are about the same as the suns trading Shaq

  • rikson

Isnt Jared Jeffries a SF… I mean hist J aint good enough to play SG! So he is basically a defensive orientated SF – just like (a worse) Wallace. Why should the Bobcats trade for him???
