Stephon: Banished

by Marcel Mutoni

To the surprise of no one, the highly-anticipated meeting between top Knicks brass and point guard Stephon Marbury solved absolutely, positively nothing.

After showing up half an hour late, Marbury reportedly stormed out after only 15 minutes, figuratively ending his surreal five-year career in New York.

Here’s the official statement from the Knicks:

“After meeting with Stephon and his representative this afternoon, we have directed Stephon not to participate in practice or attend games until further notice,” Donnie Walsh said. “We want to continue to meet with him to discuss a long-term resolution.”

I’m not really sure what Donnie expects to accomplish by continuing to “negotiate” with Marbury over the long-haul; Stephon has made it exceedingly clear that he’s not willing to take a pay cut (his offer to give back a million dollars is now “off the table”), and the longer this goes on, the more foolish everyone involved looks.

As for the rest of the Knicks, they’re doing their best to pretend this whole thing isn’t happening, and are trying to focus on the task of playing basketball.

“Everybody’s looking for closure,” Mike D’Antoni said.

i feel bad for Steph.. seems to be getting the raw end of the stick… it seems that he’s being given a bad name.. for reasons other than what is exactly is put in the media.. just go back in the last 20 or so years, everytalented player that has played for the knicks has had their career pretty much torn down…and when they leave do so much better or retires.. i can go through the list
Rod Strickland, Bernard King(my reason for not liking the Knicks), Mark Jackson(traded him, only to get him back.. to trade him again), Patrick Ewing(he bled, and sweat white, blue and orange for them, and how do they repay at the end of his career, they trade him). i dont honestly think its 100% the players fault.. the front office needs to take a lot of the fault for their part in the matter… Remember Steph had Larry Brown issues too..

    poor Steph….think i’m gonna cry…

  • Kyle I.

Just as Stephon Marbury wants every cent that he is owed by his contract he also is doomed to serve out every second he signed on for… contracts works both ways. So he starts whining and crying he wants out because he’s not playing? Tough crap buddy. You want to make a deal it’s going to involve taking less money. That’s why it’s called a deal. F*ck Marbury. Knicks management agrees. The Knicks players agree. Every GM in the L agrees. It’s called Karma Stephon. Now take your money, go home, and age another year. Good luck finding a team to screw up next year. Only this bum can somehow find sympathy somehow someway after screwing up teams, cheating on his on his wife, and throwing everyone but himself under a bus. Sickening.

Im so sick of those snobby players with their outer space values. How can someone loose his sense for reality like that? I know they get incredible paychecks every month, but cmon. Doesnt marbury have some or at least one real person in his life, who would without doubt just force him back to the ground from time to time. “Stop man, youre going to far…” – we all need that sometimes, especially a guy like marbury. Besides all the “great” stuff they can buy we should feel sorry for guys who lost their connection with reality like that… I for sure do!

How do you show up a half-hour late? And HE’S the one complaining about disrespect? Steph is in a world that none of the rest of us know about.

  • rikson

    New Nick: “the astronaut”…

  • Theo Papaloukas

@rikson….:have you ever seen Steph talk? there are many video clips on internet and you don’t need to be a social psychologist to figure out his true deficiency….there is a reason i made the comment that drove Allenp mad(the one about making it yntil the age of 20) and that reason is not what Allenp thought…

LET THE MAN GO!!! PLEASE! B*TCH PEOPLE SHOULD BE AROUND A ORAGANIZTION THAT IS TRYING TO BUILD FOR THE FUTURE.

  • rikson

@Theo… Youre right. The league kind of educades really young players who get drafted. From this point of view you have to admit that special parts of marburys personality are just products of the way the NBA executives handle business. But maybe this goes to far…

  • doyouwantmore

Stephon Marbury and the Knicks should stay together until he retires. Forget Lebron. I want to see a team that really represents the Knicks that we know and love. –

    PG – Stephon Marbury
    SG – Allen Iverson
    SF – Ron Artest
    PF – Zach Randolph
    C – Don’t need one. –

These guys could go four-on-five. AND they wouldn’t have to practice. AND they wouldn’t even need a coach.

  • Theo Papaloukas

    you forgot Stevie Franchise!!!!

  • http://www.ravingblacklunatic.blogspot.com Allenp

Y’all are hilarious. Really, you are.

  • Theo Papaloukas

@Allenp…..:if you are sincere on saying this then mission accomplished!!!!

  • JoeMama

Waste of talent its as simple as that, trade the man, get something in return and leave the marburried graveyard for good!

  • jaymes

Theo, the cartoon call is getting a little old mate, got anything fresh?

I have no interest whatsoever in Steph or the Knicks. How bout that?

  • http://slamonline.com Jacob J

I hate both Starbury and the Knicks. Why dont the Knicks just release him so they wont have to deal with him anymore.

  • clos1881

I said I wasnt gonna write in again about steph but it really pisses me off to hear all of this hate directed towards steph im still trying figure out how is this situation his fault

  • bone

i frickin hate what the knicks r doing. u f***s have so much money that u waste already. let the man play.

and steph is gonna straight go off when he finally gets to play against the knicks, but then again who doesnt

  • chintao

White people hate Stephon, but he’s just a proxy for racist attitudes that lie simmering just below the placid surface of evil pale faces. Russ Bengston also hates Steph, but at least he has personal experience. As far as showing-up late, I’m surprised he showed at all. The meeting was a joke from the outset. Nothing new was going to be said. By being late, Marbury was just trying to give back some of what he’s getting from the Knicks. Fu(k the Knicks’ management. This team needs to be put into administrative receivership.

  • Theo Papaloukas

    @chintao….:white men can’t jump!!!!
@jaymes…..:No,cartoon is the best(entertainment for little kids)!!
    CLONE STEPH!!!CLONE STEPH!!!CLONE STEPH!!!CLONE STEPH!!!CLONE STEPH!!!CLONE STEPH!!!

  • rikson

And again with the racial issues… you americans are really brainfu(ked when it comes to skin colour…

  • Theo Papaloukas

@rikson…:no need to get there cool…just keep on with demonstraiting the difference between circus and bball.

  • doyouwantmore

It’s simplistic and the lowest common denominator to bring up race. I don’t hate Marbury but I think his lack of mental strength disqualifies him for ever being in a discussion about champions. If I said Big Country Reeves wasn’t a champion because of character issues does that make me racist against white people? No. It just means he isn’t a winner, like Starbury.

  • chintao

^ uh, so that means you’re white, right?

  • chintao

Sorry, I digressed (but only a bit). Now, Marbury is not mentally tough? I think most people who know him might say that he was more mentally tough than anything else. Perhaps what you mean is that he has not been trained to function at a high level in the corporate-type atmosphere of the NBA. It’s a question of socialization, not fortitude.

  • doyouwantmore

Ummm…was Marbury not raised in the same social structure as the rest of us? All these other players have somehow managed to justify their one and two million dollar deals despite having ‘not been trained to function at a high level in the corporate blah blah’. They seem to do okay. But Marbury, who is getting paid multi-multi-millions of dollars by the way, is allowed to underachieve because of what? The man’s keepin’ him down? LOL! And to answer your first question…I’m native american. ^ uh, you’re about 16 right?

  • chintao

^ If you’ve ever been to the Surfside Houses, I think that you will recognize that the social structure is radically different from that of most other places in the United States. Also, just because one person can socialize and another can’t doesn’t mean that the second person lacks mental toughness. Indeed, it can take far more toughness to walk the path less-traveled. In closing, you’re a prime example of the worst kind of person. You trade on your spurious “minority” credentials when it suits you. You’re about 1/16th Native (if that), right?

  • doyouwantmore

Nope I’m 100% homie. And you’re wrong. I am not, in fact, the worst kind of person. I believe I was responding to your stereotyping me as white based on my opinion. So that would make you the type of person who trades on OTHERS racial background when it suits you. What kind of person is that? Not the best anyway…

  • chintao

100% forgive me if I roll my eyes…. That about makes you THE LAST 100% Native around. Anyway, with your attitude, there are sure to be no more in your line.

  • doyouwantmore

You really know what you’re talking about. And yeah sometimes I do feel like I’m the last 100% native around. Thanks.
