The Post Up: Beasley Breaks The Warriors

…and my heart as well.

by Holly MacKenzie

Oh boy. What can I really say here today? For anyone who saw the late game between Miami and Golden State last night, I’m sure you can imagine my feelings. Amazing game for Heat fans, fantastic grit by your guys, and what a nice finish to that game for Beasley.

I was so happy for him, getting his team the win with hustle and heart. In the article Mutoni linked to yesterday with him saying he would be the sixth, seventh or eighth man off of the bench if needed, I was happy to see him talking the talk. Last night, he proved that he meant it and will do whatever is needed to get that W.

Now, for the Warriors. My goodness. It’s tough to root for a team that struggles like this. I’ve been spoiled with the Lakers. Even when they struggle, you know where they are headed. With this Warriors squad, I don’t have a clue what to expect game in and game out, I don’t understand the roster moves and contract situations and I dont like that feeling of not knowing.

Not when it comes to my team.

Last night was a heartbreaker. I felt gutted. Great debut in the Bay for Jamal with 40. And we move All-Star?on.

Boston was great as always, last night. In the third when PP started to take over, dropping in 17 for the period, it just looked too easy. Effortless for him. Rajon Rondo is quickly becoming one of my favorite young players to watch. So quick with the ball, so quick with his decision-making, he is tough to stop.

I don’t know about that technical on Perk late in the game. I feel like the officials know that he is leading the league in tech’s and they may be a bit too quick to T him up sometimes. While he definitely does deserve the majority of the technical fouls that he is assessed, last night seemed a little bit excessive to me.

Raymond Felton with 14 points and 14 assists in the Bobcats victory over the T-Wolves. I love lines like that.

Who would have thought that the addition of Chauncey Billups would suddenly make the Nuggets a must-see team? It’s true.

A match made in heaven that came out of nowhere.

Also, you realize that Nene is leading the league in field goal percentage? It’s wonderful to see him healthy and getting back to where he left off last year.

Boston 107 Orlando 88

In what was a match up between two of the heavyweights in the Eastern Conference, the Celtics left no doubt about who owns the East. Defeating the Magic 107-88 last night, the Celtics found a way to hold off Dwight Howard and force the rest of the Magic to beat them. They were unable to complete the challenge. While Rashard Lewis scored a game-high 30 points for the Magic, he was still one-upped by Paul Pierce when it mattered as Pierce scored 17 of his 24 points in the third quarter to keep Orlando at bay. Without Jameer Nelson and Mickael Pietrus and with a Dwight who was struggling to score from the floor, the Magic were no match for Boston. Rajon Rondo scored 16 points to go with 12 assists as Ray Allen added 21 points. Howard finished with 14 points, 15 rebounds and 4 blocked shots for the Magic, while Hedo Turkoglu added 19.

Charlotte 100 Minnesota 90

With the Bobcats looking to continue their strong play as of late, the Timberwolves were the ideal opponent as Charlotte defeated them with ease, taking them down 100-90 to grab their third win in five games. With Al Jefferson struggling and scoring only eight points on the night the Timberwolves were at a loss offensively and were unable to put points on the board late in the fourth to cut the deficit. Just as important as the win for the Bobcats, was the continued strong play from Jason Richardson who had missed games earlier this season with knee issues. Richardson scored 25 points in the contest, shooting 11-18 from the floor. Emeka Okafor scored 24 points while grabbing 10 rebounds and blocking 5 shots and Raymond Felton scored 14 points to go with 14 assists. The TWolves were led by Ryan Gomes and his 16 points while Mike Miller scored 19 points and pulled down 10 rebounds.

Miami 130 Golden State 129 OT

In what was a win to remember for the Heat and a heartbreaker of a loss for the Warriors, Miami defeated Golden State 130-129 in overtime last night as Jamal Crawford was sensational in his home-debut with his new team. While Crawford scored 40 points on the night, Dwyane Wade dropped in 37 (to go along with 13 assists), but it was rookie Michael Beasley who stole the show –and the game- for Golden State. With the Warriors in-bounding the ball with the game tied, Beasley steals the ball, takes it to the hoop and after first getting denied by Andris Biedrins, goes up again, getting fouled. At the line with 3.2 seconds remaining in the game, Beasley nailed one of two free throws and after a last second drive by Crawford rolled all around the rim before dropping out, the Heat had the victory. While Beasley had 19 points off of the bench, Shawn Marion scored 21 points to go with 15 rebounds while Udonis Haslem also scored 21 and grabbed 13 rebounds as the Heat outrebounded Golden State 51-36. Besides Jamal’s big night, Corey Maggette scored 29 points as Andris Biedrins had 17 points and 15 rebounds and Stephen Jackson added 11 assists.

Beasley looked really short out there….
At one point a couple years ago (that one where he actually played a good deal of the season) Nene led the NBA in dunks. His post presence on both ends of the court is another key factor to the Nuggets’ improved overall play

  • Cheryl Posted: Dec.2 at 9:09 am
FINALLY!!! A Heat mention. Thanks for the shout out, Holly! ;-)

  • Cub Buenning Posted: Dec.2 at 9:12 am
Holly, I was down from day 1. http://slamonline.com/online/nba/2008/11/the-view-from-up-here/ They were “must turn off now before I start hating the game i have loved my whole life.” That has totally changed.

  • TADOne Posted: Dec.2 at 9:12 am
Suffice to say, but I believe a healthy Nene and Kenyon mean as much to Denver playing well as adding Billups also did.

  • TADOne Posted: Dec.2 at 9:13 am
Damn refresh button. Cub, I honestly wasn’t copying what you ssaid.

  • Cub Buenning Posted: Dec.2 at 9:19 am
Yeah, TAD, even before the trade, there were signs of improved “watchability.” Mostly related to the fact that their center wasn’t picking his a$s at the top of the key anymore, stealing rebounds, or letting his OWN guy have a huge night. I love the man, not so much the player.
    GOOD LUCK IN LA MARCUS!

  • Cub Buenning Posted: Dec.2 at 9:23 am
the Nene/Kenyon pairing is a better defensive tandem than anyone involving the former NBA DPOY. More accountability and toughness now.
For the team’s sake, those two stay healthy. And they pick up one more veteran body.

  • ti-sizz Posted: Dec.2 at 9:31 am
I realize from this game that the heat are still Extremely weak in the frontcourt. They couldn’t play defense without fouling and they’re mere garbagemen on offense, not to mention they’re undersized. They need a true center to be sick.. I mean c’mon, Joel Anthony??

  • Simon S.Y Lawy Posted: Dec.2 at 9:33 am
    lets pray they’ll stay healthy…i mean nene&kenyon

  • Simon S.Y Lawy Posted: Dec.2 at 9:35 am
    smallest lineup in nba, Heat

  • Eboy Posted: Dec.2 at 9:43 am
Best game of the young season……no doubt. B-Easy will be Sixth Man of the Year if his role continues for the remainder.

  • WhaHuh Posted: Dec.2 at 9:45 am
Height is a bigger factor than I expected. Love and Beasley are struggling to score and rebound. They can still be great players but probably not Power forwards

  • Lz - Cphfinest3 Posted: Dec.2 at 9:51 am
As dominant an impressive as Dwight is on D, am I the only one who has noticed that he often has underwhelming games on O against the good defensive teams. Seems that when he faces good defenses and can’t just out-muscle and dunk over the D, he’s in trouble. I honestly think that he has to start to improve his moves remarkably if he ever wants to go down as one of the greats centers, which should be his goal considering his physique and lack of competition (sans Yao and barring injury Oden).

  • Nguni Posted: Dec.2 at 9:53 am
PP is the truth! Rondo is sick wit it. Love his game. Suprises of the season: New Jersey and Miami.

  • Lz - Cphfinest3 Posted: Dec.2 at 9:54 am
Beasley should be a 3, he’ll always have trouble guarding and being guarded by the bigger 4’s whereas as a 3 he has the physical advantage, he already has the shooting range, and maybe only needs to work on quickness and his handles. I’m a big fan, but I can only really see him being great playing mostly 3 (then again Barkley played the 4 being 6′4-6′5).

  • Boing Dynasty Posted: Dec.2 at 10:16 am
Eboy i really hope you mean best heat game of the young season, Because there were these 2 games between Houston and Portland, and Toronto and New Jersey, that are still at the top of the overall games of the year list.

  • Allenp Posted: Dec.2 at 10:47 am
I’m glad I wasn’t the only one who noticed that about Camby.

  • Da Kid Posted: Dec.2 at 10:54 am
    Miami Heat BABY

  • Darksaber Posted: Dec.2 at 10:58 am
Never seen so much regular season nba ball in my life as i have this fall. Moving to asia was a godsend! And i more than appreciate dwyane. Especially with his improved jumper and general play. (yes, i am salivating right now, so what.) that game last night, was why i love this game. Unpredictable, this basketball. That being said, Udonis is the man!

  • Darksaber Posted: Dec.2 at 11:08 am
Nene is an inspiration. Back from multiple injuries and a serious condition to play like this? Great stuff. Marcus who? Sports guy has been right all these years, bring back the comeback player award, already. (still, nene, anderson& kmart are a fragile frontcourt. Just saying.)

  • BETCATS Posted: Dec.2 at 11:18 am
its bout damm time Larry Brown calls plays for Emeka!

  • BETCATS Posted: Dec.2 at 11:25 am
J-Rich was ill not sick. To all who wanted to see ‘G-State J-Rich’ check out the highlights. My man had some nasty dunks. And i am glad that Larry Brown is now running plays for Okafor to silence the critics (i am looking at you AllenP and Izzo), and that Raymond Felton has stopped gunning and started being a playmaker agian.

  • BETCATS Posted: Dec.2 at 11:26 am
also, Emeka held Al Jefferson in check. Hell yeah son!

  • BETCATS Posted: Dec.2 at 11:36 am
    ms. hanyes is yelling. peace

  • Allenp Posted: Dec.2 at 11:53 am
    BET
He was scoring on Kevin Love and Al Jefferson. Minnesota’s midget brigade should have been able to handle him at all.
I watch NBA TV way too many nights and don’t see Okafor’s name in the highlighted box score.

  • BETCATS Posted: Dec.2 at 11:57 am
Allenp, that is because Larry just started running plays 4 him

  • ciolkstar Posted: Dec.2 at 12:58 pm
Rondo is beasting. One of my favorite young players in the L as well.
My PGs are so stacked: Joe Johnson, Devin Harris, Rondo and Sessions
I also have Danny Granger who’s already having a breakout season.
I went with the strategy of going after young players who I thought would improve on last season, maybe a little risky but its definitely working out thus far…

  • LexaB Posted: Dec.2 at 1:15 pm
Down with the idea of B-Easy playing the 3 position!!! Could really be the solution to his height problem in 4!!! And yes, Rondo is so much fun to watch, that boy can really run a team like the C’s!!! And Holly, hope you’re ready for a long long season after reading what Donnie has to say about your Warriors’ chances for the season!!! Great Post Up by the way, as always!!

  • Jackie Moon Posted: Dec.2 at 1:46 pm
Aren’t wins and losses just a bunch of folderal for a lost season in Miami? Dwyane Wade is getting an inkling of what it felt like to be Kobe Bryant two and three seasons ago.

  • Z Posted: Dec.2 at 1:53 pm
For what it’s worth, Joel Anthony grew up in Montreal and didn’t even pick up a basketball until his senior year. Back then, he was playing AA ball (not even the best local league). Then he went Juco and blocked some shots, then he moved to UNLV and blocked some shots, you know the rest. Bottom line: he is very, very raw and he never ever averaged 10 ppg in any league (even HS). The fact that he is starting for the Heat speaks volume about their ineptitude at the pivot. Magloire? Blount? Oh lawd.

  • Z Posted: Dec.2 at 1:54 pm
B-Easy should Melo on tapes every day. That’s how I see him getting buckets in the L. Maybe less 3s and more banging.

  • Kid Presto Posted: Dec.2 at 3:51 pm
Crawford is legit. Handles and shot is just right. Once he gets used to the point position…him and monta together? you all are welcome.

  • Z Posted: Dec.2 at 4:25 pm
How is Monta/JC better than Monta/BD ? Gstate is going nowhere.

  • Zee! Posted: Dec.2 at 9:35 pm
I was at the game last night, Beasley looked lost at times. Wade kept talking to him to wake up. Marion got whistled for garbage fouls, and D-Wade looked like he could go to the hole whenever he felt like it, you had this feeling he was going to get close to or get 40. I kept tellin wifey it was gonna happen. And D-Wade brings the ladies out. He had his own cheering section, my wife included.

  • Will Lee Posted: Dec.2 at 11:42 pm
beasley is 6-7 maximum. He looks shorter than Marion

  • Teddy-the-Bear Posted: Dec.3 at 10:22 pm
JAMAL CRAWFORD DROPPED 40. Congratulations to him, he is going to have some career years ahead of him. New York is definitely going to miss him, a truly great guy and player for our city. I just hope that tribute video did him justice, which I have heard did just that.
