The Post Up: Rondooooooo

Rajon continues to shine as the Celtics aim for the championship again.

by Holly MacKenzie

Remember how I said I was going to continue to tell myself that yesterday was a fun day until I made it through? I made it, but just barely. Had the Raptors/Nets game last night and it was a good one. And, by good I mean Ryan Anderson having a career night as I had to interview him for a feature that I’ll be writing over at The Score next week.

That was fun. The Raptors missing their first 14 shots of the fourth quarter as New Jersey went on a 22-4 run? That would be the not fun part. Yeah, so the game was pretty ugly for Toronto in the end.

I felt like I was at the arena forever hanging out to get interviews and quotes and finally made it home, freeeezing. Let me tell you, I was not a wise one when I decided to walk home last night. I was so cold that my fingernails were absolutely burning. Fingernails. Burning. Fingernails. Throbbing. Yuck. It was not a good scene.

Anyway, by the time I made it home and transcribed a bit, all of the NBA action that did not involve Nets/Raptors had passed me by. Luckily for us all, there were a whole slew of pointless match ups last night. I know, I know, there is no such thing as a game that doesn’t matter, but Sacramento and Minnesota, well, yeah.

I noticed that Josh Howard returned to the lineup for Dallas from that ankle sprain. Happy to see that.

AttaqI’m also thrilllllled to announce that I’m currently first in my fantasy league. First out of 18. And I had the 16th pick in the draft. I’m pretty proud. Stack Jaxxx, number one!

Nash continued to have nothing but nice things to say when the topic was Mike D’Antoni. I can’t help but feel badly for Nash who has lost his coach, best friends and style of play without seeming to have gained anything in return.

I really wish I could have seen Barbosa with Dan D’Antoni pregame last night. The relationship between the two is one of the nicest ones I’ve gotten to observe in the league.

Six head coaches being fired. It’s not even Christmas yet. With the previous record being three for this time of the year, it just seems kind of crazy. Obviously the Kings don’t really surprise me, but still.

Since I didn’t see anything, I can’t do much recapping, but we can talk about the most important games of the night as I catch up with you.

Boston defeated Utah, 100-91. I was pretty impressed that Utah hung around to keep it that close when I saw the boxscore. This is the 15th straight victory for the Celtics who are now 23-2 on the season and show no signs of slowing down. While the Jazz trailed by only four in the final minutes, it was the Rajon Rondo show as he scored a career-high 25 points to save the game for the Celtics. Rondo also had 9 rebounds and 8 assists, narrowly missing another triple-double while Kevin Garnett scored 19 points and grabbed 10 rebounds and Kendrick Perkins scored 15 points to go with 14 rebounds. Paul Millsap scored a career-high 32 points to go with 10 rebounds in the loss while Deron Williams added 15 points.

Denver defeated Dallas 98-88 to continue their dominance since the arrival of Chauncey Billups. A first quarter that saw Denver outscore Dallas 27-15 set the tone for the rest of the game. The deficit was too much for Dallas to overcome as the Nuggets held them to only 35% shooting for the game. JR Smith (who I just recently dropped from my fantasy team), led the Nuggets with 25 points as Carmelo Anthony scored 23 points and Billups added 15 and 8.

In the return of Mike D’Antoni to Phoenix, the Suns took down the Knicks 111-103. While the game was close in the end with the Knicks trailing by only three with five minutes remaining, Steve Nash hit a three to give the Suns some breathing room and the Knicks were unable to get any closer. Nash finished with 21 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists as Amare Stoudemire also scored 21 points and pulled down 14 rebounds while Shaquille O’Neal had 23 points and 12 rebounds in his first game back following the death of his great-grandmother. Nate Robinson led New York with 27 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists as Al Harrington scored 24 points.

The Magic defeated the Warriors 109-96 despite playing without Dwight Howard. Jameer Nelson scored a career-high 32 points and Marcin Gortat added 16 points and 13 rebounds while Rashard Lewis scored 21. Andris Biedrins led the Warriors with 23 points and 9 rebounds as Marco Belinelli added 19 off of the bench.

The rest of the games didn’t appear to have anything huge going on, but if I missed it, let me know.

Old, tired, maligned

The Hawks will slow the Celtics down on Wednesday. ;)

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com Kid Presto

and I thought it was cold in the sip right now.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

Rondo is going to be the difference between the Celts repeating and falling to one of the West’s big teams in the Finals. Dude should be an All-Star, for real.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

Oh, and the f*cking Heat need to drop Beasley back in the starting lineup if they want to score more than 30 points a half. The experiment worked well for 7 games, but that sh*t is dead now. Also, Dwyane’s been having 07 flashbacks the last three games…..get back in the flow kid ’cause you play the Lakers next and if you don’t they may blow you out by 60. Also, I’ll be in the building so watch your back if you start fuc*king up.

  • http://coco-vents.blogspot.com Co Co

Wade has been slightly terrible the last few games. And, I saw a highlight of him missing dunks last night. Really?

  • http://www.slamonline.com Cub Buenning

    16-4 since trade.
Dallas was one of the hottest teams in the league, got LOCKED down by Denver.

  • AD25

I feel stupid because I underestimated Rajon Rondo so much. I mean, you had to think he was only getting numbers because of the All-Stars around him, but really.. looks like he’s for real.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ TADOne

I’ll expect some game notes E.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

Oh, yeah….TAD…..your boy Pau better be ready for every insult in the Spanish language…I’ve had my wife prepping me with some good mierda.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ TADOne

Hopefully ESPN won’t have highlights of security throwing out some It*lian dude with sunglasses and a Wade jersey.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ TADOne

And Ryne, why the hell does WordPress still not allow It*lian to get thru? Racists.

  • http://lastknickstanding.blogspot.com Bryan

Please get rid of marion. Just don’t trade him to the knicks.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

I’m not going all Corey Hart-like (google it non 80′s people)indoors, TAD, although the thought of worldwide exposure in what will probably amount to an ass-pounding of a game actually might make the hour long drive to MIA worth it.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ TADOne

    Graphic…but ok.

  • Slick Nick Da Ruler

Mierda por Pau! Eboy, let it rain down on em. Please cheer for Lamar though.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

Marion is a space stealer and a not-so-useful stat stuffer. Can he go back to Phoenix?

  • ciolkstar

I got to watch the entire Mavs Nuggs game on Fox SW last night. The Nuggets are for real and I, personally, don’t think the Mavs make the playoffs (well maybe 7th or 8th seed) It was pretty hilarious watching Barea’s floaters get swatted ruthlessly by Nene, KMart and the like.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

I’m actually going to try and broker a deal with Riley and Mitch before the game to see if they can close a deal for Marion for LO….maybe before tipoff. I’m sure the Heat’s doctor’s can get physicals done and e-file results to the league offices.

  • ciolkstar

Oh yeah, I almost forgot. Rajon. Rondo.

  • ciolkstar

Sorry E, but why would you want LO? I know he was actually pretty good with young DWade in Miami but dude has seriously fallen off too.

  • http://lastknickstanding.blogspot.com Bryan

No way the Lakers want Marion . LO may not like coming off the bench how do you think Marion would feel? Dudes the malcontent of all malcontents he makes my blood boil.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ TADOne

E has a personal vendetta against The Receder.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

I think LO needs a change of scenary to be productive again…..same goes for Marion….what could be better than for a player like Marion…..who is basically a piece that a veteran, challenging team could use to supplment rebounds, perimiter D, etc. and how would a lineup of Marion, Ariza and Kobe look lockind down opposing perimiters on the court at the same time? Yes, I’m better than all of you at micromanaging.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

    *locking

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com H to the Izzo

Miami should sign or trade for Martyrbury.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ TADOne

Ok, Marion and Bryant walk into a bar in South Florida, which one does Eboy throw a drink at first?

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

OOOOOH, OOOOOH, OOOOOH, can I answer that????!!!!!

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

For gratification’s sake I’d probably make the toss at Marion…..now, if I want to take the chance of possible rear end penetration…I’d better be wary of making the throw in Bean’s area.

  • Slick Nick Da Ruler

EBoy screwfaces Kobe, then live blogs the incident on slamonline. EBoy then proceeds to contact Kemp’s Offspring to post yet another teary eyed MJ piece. EBoy goes to sleep, wakes up, repeats.

  • http://twentythreenine.blogspot.com Russ Bengtson

The Knicks probably should have stopped taking threes at some point last night. What were they, 5-36? Something like that anyway.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

But in actuality, I’d most like to bean a full mini keg off Sasha’s skull…..just because.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

I seriously thought the Knicks were going to win that game yesterday afternoon.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ TADOne

    Lil Nate is still shooting….

  • Slick Nick Da Ruler

Knicks are fun to watch, Duhon looks nice. Chicago gave up the wrong pg.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ TADOne

Um, Chicago has Derrick Rose. So, i’d beg to differ….

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

Duhon has been a surprise for sure.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ TADOne

Even though he is a Dookie, I don’t hate Duhon. Weird.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

Yeah, I kind of feel the same way, TAD. I don’t hate Elton either.

  • http://twentythreenine.blogspot.com Russ Bengtson

Duke PLAYERS aren’t the problem. It’s the program and that two-bit self-promoting scumbag of a coach. Once they leave his clutches, most Blue Devils become surprisingly likeable. Even the bluest of them, like Battier and Boozer. It’s remarkable.

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com/ BETCATS

    BORIS DIAW!!!

  • http://lastknickstanding.blogspot.com Bryan

Duhon is pretty much on the same level as his career per minute averages. Maybe dude just needed pt. Marbury would be dropped 18 and 11 though in this offense and I bet he would have upped their three point percentage last night too. Ok I retire from the marbury talk starting now.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

Well, that must be a product of the 21st century, ’cause I STILL hate Laetner & Hurley like it was yesterday, although JJ and Wojo could make the most hated list any day of the week. But I don’t hate Loul either….man, so confused now.

The NBA has turned into the English Premier League where owners get rash and fire coaches after only a handful of games. I hate the Premier League for that and I pray that the NBA doesn’t make me do the same to it.

Grant Hill was the first basketball jersey I ever got. Penny Hardaway too I got them at the same time. Ahh the glory days.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Cub Buenning

Wow, Duke venom on an NBA post!

Russ, how do you really feel about Coach K? Remember though, his job is to win games and titles, not make servicable pros that are “likeable.”

Like most, though, i grew up hating all things Duke.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

    Good man, Cub!

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

Cub:Is the fact that he makes “great citizens too” just a bonus?

    Hi Holly!!

  • http://twentythreenine.blogspot.com Russ Bengtson

As a rule, white Duke players are about as likeable as the pre-bet Louis Winthorpe III (is it any wonder the firm was called Duke & Duke?). The only exception I can think of is Cherokee Parks, and I’m pretty sure he was an alien changeling anyway.

College fans over here are pretty stupid.

  • http://www.ravingblacklunatic.blogspot.com Allenp

I think the Deron Williams vs. Chris Paul debate has taken a very hard turn in Chris Paul’s direction. Deron is probably in the trunk with Nash right now.

  • http://www.ravingblacklunatic.blogspot.com Allenp

Why are the Raptors so soft?

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

Allen, I kind of felt you were off base in the offseason when you were giving Deron the title, but it’s good you’ve seen the slight error in your ways.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Cub Buenning

Russ, i also, loved that Trading Spaces references.

I know that you’re making Cherokee references just to get in good with his sister…… You ever take in a Nashville P*ssy show back in the day?

    Titles? At least two, right?

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com H to the Izzo

Let Deron recover properly, then start to judge.Having said that Paul’s rebounding numbers are phenomenal.

  • ciolkstar

I think I’ve figured it out: Eboy hates any and all white players that went to Duke. But if you’re black, its all love. That almost makes sense.

Well, I disliked Gerald Henderson JR.so…..

I was kidding, half my fam went to Duke and my dog’s name is Duke. I had no choice in the matter of my fandom. I’m not sure if anyone has kept up with freeDarko’s “search” for a ballplayer that represents Jewish identity politics, but I think John Scheyer might be that guy.

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com/ RV

Nelson needs to get fired next….how do you lose to the Magic with Howard sitting down?? Kurz had two great games, then doesn’t even get 1 minute last night. For someone who likes playing matchups so much, you’d think he’d match up on defense.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Cub Buenning

RV, have you seen the Warriors lineup these days? No Maggette and Kurz found the bench again, because Turiaf and Wright returned after missing a couple games with the flu.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ TADOne

Ciol: Ever heard of Tamir Goodman?
Cub: Um, Nashville P*ssy? Please elaborate as I don’t want to get fired for g00gling that. Thanks.

TAD:Cherokee Parks sister’s old band. From Wiki:”Nashville P*ssy is an American rock band band from Atlanta, Georgia. Many of their songs are about sex, drugs, drinking, fighting, and rock & roll. Their musical style mixes hard rock, Southern metal, psychobilly and cowpunk”

Josh comes back (probably prematurely considering the timeframe was not defined by the team) et voilà, mavs lose by 10. Wonderful. Rondo’s producing those insane stat lines, is making it hard to overlook him for the ASG.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Cub Buenning

Corey Parks is in some new band (can’t remember the name) but she is known for wearing little clothing, breathing fire on stage, and being pretty f*ckin bad ass.

I, though, prefer the tightly packed, dingy, dive-punk bar for a show as apposed to the mega-arena.

@E:I would’ve approved your L.O. for Matrix trade in the offseason in a heartbeat. Now? Not so much.

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com/ RV

Cub, i’m sure Ronny doesn’t give them 20 pts, 7 rebs, 2 stls, 2 blocks, 3 of 3 from downtown, and 63% FG in one game. I know Kurz isn’t going to do that consistently (more than likely), but the previous game he was 4 of 4 and had 3 blocks in 15 mins. Both wright and Ronny’s PT fluctuates anywhere from 9 mins to 25, so these guys aren’t exactly established players in the rotation. Their averages are below average. The one guy who actually plays D and he benches him after a great game??

  • http://lastknickstanding.blogspot.com Bryan

That’s the only way to go Cub, small venue packed crowd.

I’m drooling over the proposed deal the Cavs have made to the Heat for Marion. C’mon Santa, make it happen!

  • http://lastknickstanding.blogspot.com Bryan

    Details eboy.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

Sideshow and Wally for Marion……both have expiring deals this year and Varejo will fill the frontcourt rebounding void and make it a little easier on UD. I think Marion would shine in Cleveland, BTW.

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com/ RV

Eboy, does it involve Papa John’s pizza??

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

    I wish!!!!!!!!!

  • http://lastknickstanding.blogspot.com Bryan

That’s a good trade for the heat not sure about the cavs. I’ve never been a Marion fan. I don’t see the fit. Defensivley maybe but not on offense.

  • http://allday-fadeaway.blogspot.com Nbk

Marion wont shine anywhere the team does not run especially cleveland. He cannot shoot unless he is wide open he can’t even get a shot off without someone creating it for him, he can’t dribble. The only advantage he would give Cleveland is the ability to guard the other teams best player, but LeBron has been the DPOY to this point so why try for Marion? You don’t need his rebounding even if they did start to run more because they already have big Z and Big Ben. Marion is showing in Miami how much he needs to run and needs a creative pg to be successful. In Phoenix he never played without one of the top PG’s in the league, in miami where he doesnt have a top notch pg he has showed how much he is really worth. Don’t do it Cleveland it will be a huge mistake.

  • http://www.ravingblacklunatic.blogspot.com Allenp

    What the eff is “pyschobilly?
That doesn’t sound like something black people want to be around.
    Not at all.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

Nbk, you bring up some good points, but Marion, when motivated, is a fantastic defender/rebounder/finisher. Put it like this, he’d be a few steps up from Ben Wallace at this point and Varejo does not have that running ability that marion can fill on a wing with Lebron leading the charge.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ TADOne

Aren’t the Cavs like 19-3 or something? Why exactly do they want to disrupt that? Granted, Marion is 100x’s the defender that Wally is.

  • http://allday-fadeaway.blogspot.com Nbk

hes a terrific rebounder and finisher in phoenix, with nash running next to him, and him RUNNING the whole time. Cleveland does not fast break a whole lot, and they already have a finisher his names LeBron and every fastbreak ends with LeBron. Seriously in Phx Marion had Jason Kidd, Stephon Marbury (before he wigged out), kevin johnson, and steve nash. He never really accomplished anything offensively especially without those guys on the court. Shawn Marion would be nothing to cleveland that LeBron does not already provide.

  • http://allday-fadeaway.blogspot.com Nbk

In other words Eboy cleveland gains a good defender and a good fast break guy, on a team thats scores on 95% of its fast breaks already, and is already the 2nd best defense in the league. Improve your weaknesses not your strengths.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

*****DISCLAIME, Not in the same breath mind you,END DISCLAIMER****** but Michael Jordan did everything Scottie Pippen did too (most of it better), but it wasn’t until they played together did either of them win sh*t.

  • http://allday-fadeaway.blogspot.com Nbk

Scottie Pippen was a point forward, shawn marion cant dribble or pass. He can’t do everything LeBron does, LeBron does everything Marion does, and he does it better.

  • ciolkstar

AllenP just made me laugh really hard.

  • http://www.where-basketball-b-longs.blogspot.com/ B. Long

    ^at least you know.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

So, what I’m saying is, an upgrade in talent at one position(Matrix>Sz23rj65fv)and jettising two deals in place of taking on one is a good move for a Cleveland team looking to keep a certain Chosen One happy.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

You did read my disclaimer, didn’t you? :)

  • ciolkstar

Eboy is probably a good lawyer. He constantly hates on marion but is “sure” that Marion would make the Cavs better. Its all about perspective.

  • ciolkstar

The Cavs can’t afford to move Varejao now that big Z is hurting. If I’m Danny Ferry the only guys I’m trading away are Wally and Big ben (if anyone is dumb enough)

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

ciolkstar, you’re giving away my “barganing prowess” fuc*ker!!

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ TADOne

Didn’t Varejao get like a 3 or 4 year deal from Cleveland? I thought Charlotte offered him that and the Cavs basically matched? So if i’m correct, his deal still has at least one more year after this one.

  • http://www.where-basketball-b-longs.blogspot.com/ B. Long

    It’s all about 2010 Tad.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ TADOne

Understandable B, but Marion’s contract was coming off the books right away. So is Wally’s. Granted, the Heat get another year out of Sideshow, which their lineup could definitely use. I guess I still don’t understand the Cavs stance since they have been among the top 3 teams all season. Why exactly would you bring in a wildcard? My only guess is that Wally has turned into more of a stiff than anyone has realized.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com H to the Izzo

Allenp:A mix between punk and rockabilly. It’s not terrible.

Well, it’s just a floated rumor but I’ve heard it in three outlets this afternoon, so it must be viable at the moment. Maybe I’m just overly hopefully to rid the team of Mr. Poweralleys.

Ill be excited when Marion is out of the league.

  • http://www.ravingblacklunatic.blogspot.com Allenp

I wouldn’t trade Varejo unless I was sure Hickson could handle the minutes at the four and five. Right now Varejo is their first big off the bench and I think their defense would suffer some with Marion.
    Thanks for the tip Izzo.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ TADOne

E, I can understand this move completely from the Heats side: you free up minutes for Beasley, add size and hustle in Varejao, have a viable backup who can knock down 3′s in Wally, and still have most of that money still coming off the books at the end of the season.
Cleveland’s side of things: add a very good perimeter defender who doesn’t need plays run for him, you can move Bron to the 4, and you can play uptempo or half court with that lineup.
Hmmm, maybe this is a good trade.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

I don’t know……..Lebron’s probably bringing them to the Eastern Confernce Finals pretty much all by his lonesome, so it may not matter who’s running with him.

    Yeah, sad but probably true.

I think Bron could take me, you, Shia, and izzo to at least the 2nd round.

  • http://lastknickstanding.blogspot.com Bryan

Dude for all Marion’s ability he’s a chemistry problem in waiting. He blew his chance to be remembered for more than a pisspoor attitude by pouting his way out of PHX. He can really only excell in systems like D’Antonis and Nelsons and that’s only if he has a guard who can get him the ball in his spots. By the way speaking of Gstate. How’s that 38% shooting and under 30% from three for Jamal Crawford looking now?

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

I don’t doubt that If I’m on for most of the same second round series we could get past the current Pistons squad with that five.

  • http://lastknickstanding.blogspot.com Bryan

Exactly Tad, I’m the shooter Bron is missing ! Haha

  • http://allday-fadeaway.blogspot.com Nbk

Tad- If Cleveland tries to play LeBron at the 4 at any point in the next two years might as well just start waving goodbye because he will not stay on a team that plays him out of position. You can count on that

I agree Holly; hence, that is why I can’t completely understand the Cavs thinking on their end. For all of the positives, i’m just not sure I would trust Marion to not disrupt what has been a great start to the season by putting a known wildcard in the mix.
In Marion’s defense however, he hasn’t been a distraction in Miami this season.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ TADOne

Antawn Jamison does, but he is family; doesn’t count.

Holly my friend, you are a machine! You’ve attended back-to-back Raps games and you’re still hammering out these epic Post Ups? Much respect.

  • ciolkstar

TAD: I think that’s the exact reason this trade won’t happen. Marion has proven that he won’t be happy as “just” a contributor on a wining team. And if he can’t put up numbers with Miami, what would his role look like in Cleveland?

  • http://allday-fadeaway.blogspot.com Nbk

The best thing cleveland can do in my eyes is add Mike Miller, or take wally trade him for martell webster and raef lafrenz, you replace wally’s shooting and you get an expriring contract in return. Plus Martell is better at D then wally

  • http://www.manutd.com Z

I would be miserable for a least week if that trade goes through. Varejao is needed. I like the big man rotation and I like the 3-guard rotation. Cleveland just needs a reliable wing. Wally ineeds to get ghost and Sasha is a 10th man at best. MIKE MILLER MIKE MILLER MIKE MILLER MIKE MILLER MIKE MILLER.

  • ciolkstar

Martell is hurt though, seems to be struggling getting back healthy and he just signed an extension this past summer.

  • http://allday-fadeaway.blogspot.com Nbk

If Cleveland picks up shawn marion they would be taking a step back offensively, Wally World works better on offense with LeBron then Marion will, and does Cleveland need more defense?

  • http://allday-fadeaway.blogspot.com Nbk

Martell is supposed to be back pretty soon though isn’t he?

  • ciolkstar

…but getting Mike Miller would be a serious addition for the Cavs. Might even make them the favorites to win it all in my eyes, depending on who they would have to give up…

  • ciolkstar

NBK: Martell got hurt again while rehabbing

  • http://allday-fadeaway.blogspot.com Nbk

Oh i never heard about that. Scratch that trade idea then

  • http://allday-fadeaway.blogspot.com Nbk

The Cavs could actually deal wally for raja bell and sean may, that way they would stick with their defensive theme will keeping LeBron surrounded by shooters and bigs

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ TADOne

Honestly, why do the Cavs have to do ANYTHING?

  • http://allday-fadeaway.blogspot.com Nbk

To get past those damn celtics and to keep lebron in cleveland duh

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

Yeah, I mean are the Cavs are a shoe in for NBA Finals appearances for the next few years? Not really, not with the current roster, they’re very close though, and a Celts major injury away frm getting there this season though.

  • http://allday-fadeaway.blogspot.com Nbk

But i don’t think Danny Ferry is going to risk keeping LeBron on chance, if he has the opportunity to improve the cavs he will, and sczerbiak is his moveable piece. He will improve the team its just whether itll be before the trade deadline or before the draft next year.

  • http://allday-fadeaway.blogspot.com Nbk

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ TADOne

Ok, that is the Captain Obvious answer. Thing is, i’m asking why do the Cavs really have to do something this year? Of course they aren’t a “shoo-in” for the Finals, but neither are the Celtics with the way LeBron and the rest of the Cavs have been playing. Do you want to bet against Bron? Regardless, Wally’s money comes off and they could upgrade by getting a solid FA.

Blong: You’re always getting shout outs in the mag. How do you pull that isht?

  • http://allday-fadeaway.blogspot.com Nbk

Because LeBron is not going to stay on a team without a real 2nd option thats why the cavalieers have to make a move. I actually have the cavaliers in the finals this year prior to the season even starting but you have to look at it like this: if your sitting in danny ferry’s chair and you take your chances with the team you have because they are winning currently and they end up not winning the title this year, and they don’t win it again next year then LeBron signs elswhere, how long do you think ferry would keep his job? If ferry makes a move-takes a risk whatever and it wins cleveland a title how much better do you think the chances are he keeps his job even his LeBron leaves?

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ TADOne

Why is my comment in moderation?

  • http://allday-fadeaway.blogspot.com Nbk

Say they do win the title this year with the team they have, best case scenario they find an all star caliber player in fa thats willing to take a little less money to play next to LeBron, once again ferry would be taking chances that nothing happens in the next season that will keep lebron from staying. Say the FA they sign does not mesh well with cleveland ala larry hughes what do you think lebron will decide in the 1 season he has with this person. The earlier danny ferry improves the cavs the longer they will have to convince lebron cleveland is where he wants to be.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ TADOne

I understand all of that NBK, but who can the Cavs get from a team that is a legit 2nd option and also is signed beyond this year? Another question: does LeBron really NEED a legit 2nd fiddle? I understand the logic in it, but Bron seems to be working just fine this year with Mo Williams, Z, and Delonte West playing lower-tier 2nd fiddles.

  • http://www.where-basketball-b-longs.blogspot.com/ B. Long

Mo Williams is a pretty legit dude in my eyes.

  • http://allday-fadeaway.blogspot.com Nbk

They can get Michael Redd but he is such a defensive liability i don’t think that would be a good move, mike miller is a fine and dandy 2nd option if you take into account that mo, z, and delonte will take some pressure off. But the reason they have to get a 2nd option is to make lebron happy, i am totally aware to the fact that lebron can probably win the title with the team he has but to keep him in cleveland long term they are going to have to make it so he isn’t doing it by himself.

  • http://allday-fadeaway.blogspot.com Nbk

B-your right mo is legit but thats not in the playoffs or the finals, Mo can do his thing but he would serve much much better as a 3rd option on a championship team then its 2nd.

  • http://www.where-basketball-b-longs.blogspot.com/ B. Long

I can agree with that. But the Blazers front office is still laughing at the thought of trading Martell Webster for Sexyback.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ TADOne

Actually, Portland has so much young talent, they eventually are gonna HAVE to make a move like that for an expiring contract so they can keep the Roy, Oden, aldridge core together. With Martell having lingering injury issues, it wouldn’t surprise me if they dealt him. However, I see Outlaw as more likely to go.

  • http://allday-fadeaway.blogspot.com Nbk

There is no reason portland would decline that trade B- Martell is not part of their plans they like Outlaw, they love rudy, and they have a ROY. Martell is leaving portland someday no matter what, why not gain 2 million more dollars in expiring contracts while opening up a roster spot? It is perfectly logical

  • http://allday-fadeaway.blogspot.com Nbk

They will have between 12 and 21 million in cap space depending on what happens with darius miles, they will not be looking to sign a PF, or a C, they will look for a PG first and the more money they can shore up for a pg, or just to resign their young stars the better

  • http://www.where-basketball-b-longs.blogspot.com/ B. Long

They’ll move Outlaw before Martell if Webster comes back and shows he’s still just as good as he was before he got injured, which he will. He’s the better player of the two.

  • http://allday-fadeaway.blogspot.com Nbk

Webster is not that much better then outlaw, and outlaw is bigger and a better shooter plus webster is injury prone. And Kevin Pritchard has already declined every trade that includes outlaw for the last 2 years

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com Moose

Oh, and to everyone who’s all excited about Rondo and stuff, I have a few things to say: 1) I told you so. 2) It was all me. His meeting me truly inspired him.

  • http://allday-fadeaway.blogspot.com Nbk

But outlaw is a 45% 3pt shooter compared to webster’s 37% is the main reason why the blazers would rather have outlaw then webster. When your team’s core is set it is not about who the better player is, it is about who compliments those core guys the best. Plus Rudy Fernandez has taken away most of everything webster used to bring to the table. Plus Outlaw will be their starting 3 no matter if webster is healthy or not

  • ciolkstar

Obtaining Michael Redd would be the dumbest ting I could imagine the cavs doing. That guy is SO overrated its not even funny.

  • http://allday-fadeaway.blogspot.com Nbk

hes not overrated on offense. He shouldnt even have a rating on defense he is that bad

  • ciolkstar

The Blazers extended Martell Webster this past summer. I’m pretty sure they like the guy. I remember it clearly because I was surprised they commiteed to him early, seeing as they have such a wealth of young talent. The Blazers will eventually have to move someone, and I don’t think they’ve extended Outlaw. Which makes me think Outlaw is the most likely to get traded. Outlaw is not a bad player though, and I think he could really help a team that lacks a decent swingman (Toronto?)

  • ciolkstar

He IS overrated on offense. He just shoots threes and he has a super slow release. Redd gets himself in trouble basically every time he puts the ball on the floor and is a below average passer. Just because you can put up 20 ppg and terrible teams and make a bunch of 3s does not make you a good player. Signing him (IMO) would guarantee that Bron bounces from Cleveland.

  • http://allday-fadeaway.blogspot.com Nbk

His release is above his head, he hits over 45% from 2 and lebron played with him on team USA. LeBron would love to have a threat like that next time him, especially if that threat comes in place of wally sczerbiak. What you just said about lebron leaving if he gets redd was totally offbase and almost stupid

  • Anton

Tad – if Iverson is on the next cover, say “I don’t know THE ANSWER to that question”

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com/ RV

has anyone reported Pargo is more than likely coming back to the NBA this season? He’s going to void his contract..

  • ciolkstar

Well, thinking that Redd would in any way positively contribute to keeping Bron IS stupid. Redd is over the hill and only an above-average talent at best. His complete lack of defensive and/or atheletic ability, not to mention the generous money he commands would completely limit the Cavs ability to get apreciable BETTER, not just add a extremely limited player with good past stats.

  • ciolkstar

Redd makes alot more money than Wally, so that deal couldn’t happen straight up. I agree he’s better than wally, but he’s not going to give them much more than Boobie Gibson does. (when healthy) My point was that committing money over the long term to Redd would significantly limit the Cavs upside, making it harder for them to retain Bron LONG TERM. They need to get better with youth, not aging gunners. They’re already overpaying Sasha and Big Ben. Plus Redd is used to getting a ton of shots, and that would have to change in Cleveland, making him even less valuable. Although, I’m not surprised that you think Redd is REALLY good.

Sorry but michael redd makes 2 million more a year then wally, so that trade is easily doable and no matter how bad you think redd is I know your not stupid enough to think wally is better. That alone shows why it is a good trade but u seem to argue just for the sake of it. But like I said yesterday it does not matter because the bucks want so ethin close in terms of talent for redd and the cave don’t have that to offer in a trade. But if u think micHael redd would b worse for the cavs than wally then very simply your an idiot
