Video: The REAL Reason for Portland’s Victory Over Boston

by Marcel Mutoni

Last night, the Blazers pulled off what most are calling a “stunner” over the Celtics. Portland, playing short-handed (Brandon Roy was out with a pulled hamstring), gutted out an impressive win over the defending World Champs.

There’s evidence now, however, showing that the Blazers may have had an important advantage over the Celtics. A numerical advantage to be precise. Via: Inside Hoops:

My favorite thing about the above clip is Nate McMillan’s reaction after his team’s violation of the rulebook is discovered: Yeah, you got us. Nice try, coach.

    HAHAHHAHAAHHAHAHAAH.

  • Moose Posted: Dec.31 at 9:14 am
Wow. The refs are supposed to check for that and all. Were they trying to do that? Damn.

  • Simon S.Y Lawy Posted: Dec.31 at 9:31 am
    holy crap…

  • tapion Posted: Dec.31 at 9:32 am
i don’t understand how THREE refs could miss something like that.

  • BETCATS Posted: Dec.31 at 9:34 am
but if anyone thinks that 2 points in the SECOND QUARTER are is the ‘Real Reason Boston Lost’ you a silly goose. The Celtics were still up by 4 AFTER the faulty bucket AND they got a free throw + possesion on account of the technical foul called. But whatever.

  • Roy Posted: Dec.31 at 9:36 am
Co-sign Moose. 6 Blazers players were on the court? That’s not right…

  • Young Chris MP3 Posted: Dec.31 at 9:42 am
This is like when Vince McMahon knew the only way he could defeat Shawn Michaels was by throwing him in handi-cap matches each and every week…

  • Young C Posted: Dec.31 at 10:32 am

  • ENDS Posted: Dec.31 at 11:19 am
These are the kind of mistakes people in the real world get fired over. Yo the economy…someone got to go. FIRE VIOLET PALMER! Sorry got carried away there. Yeah 6 guys thats turrble

  • BOSTONBALLER Posted: Dec.31 at 11:22 am
Let the venom and Green Hater-aide flow…lol. The 6 man on the court debacle was not the reason for our loss, it was more than likely the their lackluster play from the onset (That happens when you underestimate a team b/c their top player is in street clothes.)Oh yeah, and the Blazers came to play some real ball!! You could see the change in The Celtics demeanor after that fiasco by the refs but they are professionals and should not have let that effect them…Their emotion is both a positive and negative. We here in Celtic nation are not concerned.. As far as the worst 28-5 team “evar”…will you “ever’ stop reaching???? for the hater-aide? lol Have a safe one folks, it’s snowing again here. T. Crook

I remember watching a highlight of a college game where they played with six players for like five or six minutes without anyone noticing.

  • underdog Posted: Dec.31 at 11:41 am
    I love this game!

  • pollyserial Posted: Dec.31 at 12:18 pm
ease up there bostonballer. i’m pretty sure that was what is sometimes called a “joke”. google it. and if the refs didn’t more than make up for that play in the last few minutes of the game, than just, wow. Pierce was at the line every trip down the floor, and that double tech where garnett clobbered aldridge was a joke. (that’s a different usage, bostonballer).

  • Co Co Posted: Dec.31 at 12:49 pm
Hey Violet Palmer was busy horribly officiating the Hawks game last night. We need not drag her into this post.

  • MalevolentKing7242 Posted: Dec.31 at 1:31 pm
HAHAHAHA!!!!! 6 players and no refs spotted it till later. Funny NBA moment

  • Anton Posted: Dec.31 at 1:43 pm
    did not see that coming

  • RV Posted: Dec.31 at 1:48 pm
i like KG’s reaction, he’s like “there’s one white jersey, i got him, oh there’s another, i’ll switch off, then another, hey Perk get that guy, then another, WTF” LOL…

  • Mike Posted: Dec.31 at 1:51 pm
When is everyone gonna stop complaining about the refs poor officiating and instead start taking advantage of it? That’s what all the winning teams do. Remember how pippen cheated in the 97 finals by grabbing the rim on defense and how jordan cheated in 98 by pushing bryon russell. Every championship team of every year knew how to manipulate the refs.

  • Dutch Rich Posted: Dec.31 at 3:03 pm
When you speak about your favorite team, call them by their name and not us or we, Until you own stock, they are still the Celtics to you. Green haterade

  • Heals Posted: Dec.31 at 3:22 pm
should’ve never been a close game to begin with. The C’s need to refocus and get some bench help, those cats are playing real weak right now…Call up Bill Walker!!!

  • Josh D Posted: Dec.31 at 4:31 pm
I know portlands players are young, but i swear they’re old enough to count past five

  • BOSTONBALLER Posted: Dec.31 at 6:29 pm
Dutch Rich: You know that almost every sports fan speaks of their favorite teams as if we are a part of them. It’s safe, harmless and doesn’t cost anythingexcept sanity. Now on the other hand there are those fans who buy team gear and actually think they are a part of the organization which in fact all they have done is make the organization richer. LOL. Does the Green hateraide taste any better than the Blue of the New York Giants wo beat MY Patriots. LOL… Be safe out there tonight poeple and have a great 2009. Thanx SLAM!!

  • Paniscus Posted: Dec.31 at 7:25 pm

  • rikson Posted: Jan.2 at 4:56 am
I remember a game between SA and LAL where the spurs played with 4 players for 1-2 minutes. Baskets counted but SA got a technical… Bowen was still on the bench :-)

  • German Reignman Posted: Jan.2 at 7:56 am
This substitution pattern was brought to you by the “NBA Stay-in-School” program ….

  • rikson Posted: Jan.2 at 8:32 am
