Worthy of Your Attention

by Marcel Mutoni

There are 11 games on tap tonight; here are four that you should pay close attention to.

Phoenix @ New Orleans: Though it’s no longer debatable as to who the best point guard in the League is (sorry, gents), it’s still fun to watch Chris Paul and Steve Nash go at it.

The struggling Suns were recipients of a verbal lashing from their coach, and it’ll be interesting to see how they respond tonight.

Lakers @ Sixers: I can’t wait to hear how Phil reacts to Bynum’s criticism. Young Andrew will learn soon enough that it’s never wise to engage in any sort of verbal sparring with the Zen Master.

Both teams are coming off tough games from last night - with the Sixers winning in overtime against the Bulls - so the key to victory will be which of these squads will be able to maintain a high energy level in the fourth quarter.

Miami @ Utah
: The Heat have quickly transformed themselves from the gong-show they were last season, into one of the more enjoyable teams to watch this year. And of course, it doesn’t hurt that D-Wade is playing out his mind these days.

Memphis @ Atlanta: I’ve got three words for you regarding this one: League Pass Bangerâ„¢.

No love for Penn State @ Georgia Tech in the Big Ten-ACC Challenge? WTF Mutoni?!

Welcome back Josh Smith. Terry Porter should give no one but himself a tongue lashing. Maybe Amare but that’s not basketball related.I think the Lakers are going to crush the sixers. Sorry Khalid.

The Philly-LA game will be over by the middle of the 3rd quarter at the latest. Kobe et al. will be able to spend the 4th on the bench.

  • Jesse G Posted: Dec.3 at 2:56 pm
Yea Terry Porter doesn’t have the respect of his players it seems. Shaq pushing him during that schuffle kinda showed signs of that. Then it doesn’t help when every player not named shaq is questioning your system.

@big country: i thought the same about Lakers’ yesterday game too…

The 76ers probably will get crushed tonight. They really need to run some action for Thaddeus Young. The Thad vs Ariza matchup should be pretty sweet. Maybe Iguodala will finally stop doing his Kobe impression, quit jacing up bad shots and start passing the ball. Maybe.

  • ciolkstar Posted: Dec.3 at 3:05 pm
I hate to bang on him for this but, honestly, Terry Porter just doesn’t speak intelligently and his offense lacks creativity. The guy was a tough, dependable veteran in the league, but he doesnt inspire confidence as a coach. Say what you want about d’Antoni, but he obviously knew what he was doing…atleast he had a system that his players believed gave them a chance to win every night.

if the lakers don’t win i’ll be severely disappointed.fisher is the weak link in my opinion.he’s experienced but inconsistent.

  • Young C Posted: Dec.3 at 3:14 pm
The problem hasnt been Iguodala jacking bad shots. The problem has been that until last night(in his homestate)he’s been too passive offensively. He definetly doesnt have that scorers instict like a star SG/SF should have. I dont ever expect him to be like Kobe, Wade, etc. but is it too much to ask for him to be like Joe Johnson or Caron Butler? Theres no reason why he should ever be outplayed by Raymond Felton at SG like he was last week.

I’d like to thank Marcel for the Heat compliment. They are kind of decent to watch. That being said, I expect them to lose by 15 tonight. Oh, and if Dwyane somehow drags them to the playoffs, and continues to play at his current level, he should be top 2 in the MVP voting at the end of the season.

  • Bryan Posted: Dec.3 at 5:54 pm
    Co sign eboy.

  • Moose Posted: Dec.3 at 8:20 pm
Eboy, DWade is insane at the moment. Fantasy MVP, at least. :)

How about that Chris Paul………Sean Singletary matchup? lol

  • Dacre Posted: Dec.4 at 3:19 am
Just read the piece on Porter and the post practice team meeting and was wondering whether this unit really does have the respect to play the ‘porter way’…they apparently have “forgotten” how to run and gun…?? I thought all if not most basketball players could play that style anyway…certainly letting Nash orchestrate things will help. He might get his hands back on the top 1-2 PG position once more…

Porter sucks and has made the Suns so boring and incohesive its making me cry into my beer, Hornets played badly and still killed us
