Worthy of Your Attention

by Marcel Mutoni

It’s Thursday, and that means the game choices are limited.

TNT’s double dip features three teams that are still trying to find each other, and one who’s exceeding all reasonable expectations.

Suns @ Mavs: Phoenix was without the services of Shaquille O’Neal and Steve Nash last night, and predictably, they got romped by the Hornets. And speaking of Shaq, he bristled at the prevailing notion that he’s the one stopping the Suns from running and gunning. The Arizona Republic brings us the goods:

“If we’re going to run, we should stop talking about it and just do it,” O’Neal said. “We don’t need coach’s permission to get a rebound and run. I’m going to be the one igniting the break because I’m getting most of the rebounds. It doesn’t matter to me. I can play any style.”

“I’m only getting five shots a game, so it can’t be like they’re throwing to me every time,” said O’Neal, who actually is averaging 9.8 shots per game but took six in Sunday’s game.

Spurs @ Nuggets: At 13-6, and playing sparkling basketball since the acquisition of Chauncey Billups, the Denver Nuggets have the League’s full attention now. And tonight, they face off against an old nemesis, one whose season got off to a rocky start.

The Spurs are, in fact, slowly (but surely) rounding into shape; they’re 7-3 in their last ten games, and with Manu now back in the lineup, it shouldn’t surprise anyone if they start moving up in the Western Conference standings.

both parker and manu came back earlier than expected. i was wondering if they would stay in the playoff picture until two shows up. effing coach pop deserves a COTY for that.

Suns and Spurs are both facing their biggest opponent eva — father time. I can’t see them higher than 5th-6th seeds in the West. I’m more interested in catching Mr. Big Shot and the new-look Nugs.

Forget the NBA tonight. All of these teams suck! Watch Blake Griffin go to work on USC…

    Shaquille Drama

Five shots, 10 shots, what’s the difference? I can’t believe he’s on the books for another $20 million season after this one.

  • albie1kenobi Posted: Dec.4 at 1:29 pm
so shaq gets paid to sit out half his games? i’m gonna call him the BIG Half-bury.

  • Jesse G Posted: Dec.4 at 1:29 pm
I know that’s horrible thinking he is still gonna be making $20 million next season. Do you think someone might take that huge expiring contract off our hands next year? I sure hope so. Do you think the grizz gm would be willing to make a deal with the suns too? lol

The only thing that Shaq brings nowadays to a team is name recognition and maybe some ticket sales from fans wanting to touch some star power. Overpaid.

  • ciolkstar Posted: Dec.4 at 2:58 pm
Mo: I’m from San Antonio, but I went to UT and have lived in Austin for 5 years now.

  • Anton Posted: Dec.4 at 4:00 pm
hate the Spurs, hope Melo DUI’s into their bus

  • AD25 Posted: Dec.4 at 4:10 pm
“I can play any style… Except for the hitting free-throws style,” Shaq did not necessarily add.

  • EC Posted: Dec.4 at 4:17 pm
LOL @ Anton. I hope The New England Patriots Team bus is for some reason driving down the opposit lane as the Spurs bus and they get into a head on collision. Paris Hilton and Lohan can be the two behind the wheel so you know its gonna be caused by DUI

  • TADOne Posted: Dec.4 at 4:52 pm
Anton and EC win the idiot comment award.

  • Anton Posted: Dec.4 at 6:01 pm
aight, just give me some time with Paris and Lindsay before you call in the accident…

  • matt(ballislife Posted: Dec.4 at 6:17 pm

  • EC Posted: Dec.4 at 6:38 pm
No prob Anton, but you’re gonna have to settle for sloppy 82nds! Both teams are gonna have their way with em first!
