Worthy of Your Attention

by Marcel Mutoni

Lakers @ Wizards: Washington has to battle not just a championship-caliber squad tonight, but their rather vocal fans, too.

“We need to give a good performance so that the vast majority of people in our colors are yelling loud enough that they are drowning out those people in the purple and gold,” said Wizards Coach Ed Tapscott, a Washington native.

“So it’s on us to recognize that the vast majority of people will be Wizards fans.”

Portland @ Boston: The what-if game? My guess is that the Celtics don’t have too many regrets about not having selected Greg Oden in the 2007 draft now.

Indiana @ Cleveland: Whenever these two teams get together, a thrilling basketball game always seems to break out. Don’t miss it.

Warriors @ Rockets: So many questions surrounding this matchup…How cruel (albeit, hilarious) can the Houston Chronicle continue to be towards the oft-injured Tracy McGrady? Will Corey “I’m going to get mine” Maggette deign to pass to a single teammate tonight? Tune in to find out!

Corey Maggette’s stat line prediction: 9-28 from the field 23pts. 5 rebs. 1 assist(on accident).

No mention of Hawks/Knicks and the triumphant return of Jared “The Glue Guy” Jeffries? “Jared is the type of player, and the type of personality, that just balances things out for us. It was true about us last year that the chemistry wasn’t right. What Jared brings to us is chemistry, where he balances the locker room, balances the plane ride, he is the chemical piece that makes everything kind of work.” Isiah said so, so it must be true.

In fact, I’m not sure how they ever flew anywhere without him.

  • B. Long Posted: Dec.5 at 12:10 pm
Caron sounds like he misses L.A. Who could blame him. The Lakers miss you too, Caron.

  • TADOne Posted: Dec.5 at 12:11 pm
Balances the plane ride? Was that added in or did he really say that?

  • Russ Bengtson Posted: Dec.5 at 12:15 pm
    He really said that.

  • Russ Bengtson Posted: Dec.5 at 12:16 pm
“It’s not a matter of solving a problem,” added Thomas. “It’s a matter of tilting everything to make it all balance. He balances the team, both a person and as a player. We are extremely lucky to have him.”

  • Russ Bengtson Posted: Dec.5 at 12:16 pm
    BALANCE.

  • TADOne Posted: Dec.5 at 12:18 pm
It’s not just a nutrition bar.

Wow I ACTUALLY had too look up the word “deign” Verb 1. deign – do something that one considers to be below one’s dignity

  • Fredo Posted: Dec.5 at 1:03 pm
Cold blooded of the Chronicle to do that, but you know it’s well earned. T-Mac has all sorts of talent, but his teams go nowhere. For a guy at once thought of in the same sentence as Kobe, it’s striking that his teams are such chokers.

  • nick Posted: Dec.5 at 1:07 pm
I would think the bigger balance issue on the knicks team plane would be Jerome James’ ass.

  • Ken Posted: Dec.5 at 1:08 pm
The “balance the plane ride” is one of Zeke’s best. That ish’s clown shoes.

  • nick Posted: Dec.5 at 1:22 pm
People need to stop calling t-mac a choker. Look at his playoff numbers–pretty well insane. The man plays his ass of in the playoffs. Is he injury prone? Yes. That’s not his fault. It’s like when people called Andrew Toney soft…sometimes, a guy is just f***in hurt. Yes, T-mac is hurt constantly, but that should be tragic, not the grounds for hate.

  • Russ Bengtson Posted: Dec.5 at 1:30 pm
Judging from the way he played last year, Jared Jeffries couldn’t balance his checkbook.

  • ciolkstar Posted: Dec.5 at 1:33 pm
Caron might miss LA, but DC is no sh!thole. In fact, I’m applying to schools in both cities and would almost rather end up in DC. Of course I’d be a broke student in LA not a millionaire playing for the Lakers.

  • ciolkstar Posted: Dec.5 at 1:34 pm
D’Antoni better not give D Lee’s minutes to Jaed Jefferies…

  • Dma Posted: Dec.5 at 2:13 pm
a dollar to KG getting ejected tonight

  • witness Posted: Dec.5 at 3:36 pm
celtics-blazers game of the night. who would think that two low market teams would posess so much talent. the blazers are a younger big three or should we call them the lil 3.

  • Rey-Rey Posted: Dec.5 at 4:37 pm
If Oden went to Boston, Garnett might still be in Minnie. Or maybe he’d be in Phoenix with Nash and Stoudemire. And Shaq might not have gotten traded. Maybe.

  • ciolkstar Posted: Dec.5 at 5:30 pm
Witness: Boston is not a small market. Especialy when it comes to sports. Rey rey: If…if…if…none of that stuff matters, its just for writers who don’t actually know that much about basketball to fill their columns. (that wasn’t directed at SLAM at all. Its all about the game here)

  • Moose Posted: Dec.5 at 6:02 pm
witness, Boston is not a small market. Take it from first-hand experience (well, kinda). But if you mean that the Celts aren’t the main team over here for most people, then you’re right.

  • Anton Posted: Dec.5 at 6:30 pm
it’s gonna be interesting to see if the Cavaliers can win with a balanced effort or fall back to the let-Bron-score-50-points play.

  • Damien Posted: Dec.5 at 10:51 pm
Turns out Cavs can win without LeBron…scoring 50.

  • RV Posted: Dec.6 at 12:08 am
Nick, i know you were replying to a post, but tmac deserves some hate…the beef the chronicle has with him is that he was told he couldn’t get hurt anymore by playing and he had to play himself back to full strength, yet he’s taking time off, they also reported Tmac told them he was taking time off because he was unhappy with how he’s been playing and not the injury.

  • Rey-Rey Posted: Dec.6 at 2:43 am
ciolkstar: Oh, I know none of that matters in the now. But speculation can be fun. Just not too much, though. We know how good Boston is now!

  • B. Long Posted: Dec.6 at 2:20 pm
I’d just like to point out that in the first comment I predicted exactly the amount of points and assists that Corey Maggette would get last night. I was a few off on rebounds though. Guess I forgot that he’s the closest thing to a Power Forward that Nellie lets play.
