Yet Another Round of Shawn Marion Trade Rumors

by Marcel Mutoni

A report from Yahoo! Sports yesterday re-ignited the Shawn Marion trade talk, this time adding a new twist to things: The Cavs are reportedly interested in the Heat forward, and are willing to trade Sideshow Varejao and Wally Sexyback for the Matrix’s services.

The word from the Miami press corps, as of today anyway, seems to be that Shawn isn’t going anywhere, anytime soon.

From the Miami Herald:

Despite continuous speculation he is on the verge of being traded, Heat forward Shawn Marion believes he will finish out the final season of his contract in Miami.

But two league sources said Tuesday no such deal was imminent. The Heat has fielded offers for Marion, whose $17.8 million contract expires at season’s end. But Heat president Pat Riley has publicly maintained that Marion would be key to the team this season.

The 30 year old’s numbers across the board are down this season; someone must’ve forgotten to remind him that he’s in a contract year.

I must admit, however, that a LeBron-Marion combo on the wing would be a pretty amazing thing to watch.

This could be fun, but then again I think Marion is dying.

And YES I LOVE THE NEW LAYOUT!

  • Plasticman

New site design is pretty sweet. Feels all hi-tech like!

    VERYNIIICE!!

Oh yeah, Marion, bad deal but i guess they want something for him. Sideshow could be handy. When is he out of contract? Please don’t say 2010

Obama wasn’t joking about that change stuff, huh? Shawn Marion was once one of my favorite players….then he started speaking publicly.

  • MKP

Shawn Marion was in such a perfect situation when he was with the Suns and he simply pissed it all away. Forget “The Matrix”, he should be known as “Enron”

The fact that this deal has been talked down in the last 12 hours is really ruining my holiday season.

  • neaorin

Windhorst had already dismissed the Marion rumor as untrue. Which is odd, since I’ve come to expect anything written by Adrian Wojnarowski to be 100% factual… yeah right.

  • neaorin

The new layout is much more readable, but I liked having the poster’s name ahead of the comment itself. And the comment box seems too narrow.

  • eyehatedirk

Ha, whatever Marion was a baby about his situation with Phoenix when he had it better than most and others would probably have loved to be in his position. The Cavs should steer clear of this, especially since Z is hurt and Sideshow does all the dirty work for them that B

Excited about hitting the beach with wally eboy?

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com H to the Izzo

Bryan:They could have some sort of gel fight.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

Gel is so 1998, Izzo, it’s all about beach wax now, kid, get it right.

  • Fredo

    Great new look!

As for Matrix to Cleveland…it’d add some pop to their line-up. Not that they need it. And what happens when they face Boston in the East Finals and have no interior presence?

  • http://lastknickstanding.blogspot.com Bryan

Is it just me or does it seem that Riley is calling him a key to the season and hanging on so he doesn’t have to admit it was a mistake taking Marion on to begin with?

  • http://ittakesanationofmillionstoholdthissac.blogspot.com ciolkstar

Getting rid of Shaq and his bloated contract wasn’t a terrible decision, and I don’t think people fully rrealized the level of interdependence between Marion stats, Nash, and D’Antoni, etc…

Can’t say I love thre new format, but I’m sure I’ll get used to it pretty quickly.

ah so i’m the only one who hates the new layout? Looks lke every other site on the web now…isn’t SLAM supposed to be different?

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com/ BETCATS

    i hate Yahoo Sports

  • Mendel

    THE NEW LAYOUT SUCKS!!!!

  • http://thesportsdiaryonline.blogspot.com Roy

No surprise with trade rumors on Shawn Marion… Nice layout by the way… Great job SLAM… :D

  • Static

What is a yahoo sports?…Matrix in Cleveland would be sick and flopping on Miami beach would be the next craze…the new layout is OK but I didn’t see anything wrong with the old one…and can someone please move that gray box with the story source info out of the f*in way so I can read the cot d@mn story?!

  • Static

All the pages seem to jumble and overlap pieces on the pages every other time I open them

  • Jacob

poor wally, has to move every season

  • http://allday-fadeaway.blogspot.com Nbk

Another crappy trade rumor, the cavs are not going to trade for a guy that does not improve their team. The only thing the cavs need is another shooter ala mike miller

  • http://www.youtube.com/user/officerbarbrady what

Everything about the new layout is nice except that our names don’t appear in orange anymore when we type a website in. Blue’s just not the same.

  • http://www.bbl.org.uk Josh D

The only way this guy will settle down if he is a teams franchise guy, i think the Bobcats should trade for Marion, besides, this trade would basically make it a lot harder for the Heat to make the palyoffs, and The Cavs are doing well enough anyway, if its not broke, don’t fix it

  • http://www.slamonline.com mat smith

Marion is useless without Nash, he needs a pass 1st PG, he would fit in Utah

  • a_whiteman

Marion to toronto for kapono, moon and a 2nd round pick, get it done BC, your job depends on it

  • Young Chris MP3

They should just bring him to New York so D’Antoni will have another one of his guys out there.

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com Moose

@ Eboy: You’d know that because you have “experience” in this world. ;)

  • Keith

Send Marion to Washington for Antwan.

  • http://slamonline.com Tzvi T

The new design is giving older browsers (IE 6 and Firefox 2) trouble. It has the posts getting overshadowed by the “related stories” tab.
As for Shawn John Marion, he’s on the doowwwnside of his career. Stats wise he is suffering an economic depression of his own.
Varejao would be good for D-Wade; He would have his back, like hockey bullies do.

  • http://fjsdklf.com Jukai

Marion has been terrifyingly useless without Nash and D’Antoni. I’m not even sure that Lebron has enough ability to make Marion look good, as Wade is as good of a passer (well, a better passer but worse court vision) but Marion is missing wide open dunks. I don’t even know what his proble is.

  • ktokyo

@MKP: I’m lovin’ that. ”Enron” He totally ruined a great opportunity in PHX.

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com Hursty

I dislike the new layout. That is all.

  • http://twentythreenine.blogspot.com Russ Bengtson

They should trade him to the Suns for Shaq.
