Bobcats Would Not Be ‘Punked’ By Celtics

by Marcel Mutoni

Everyone knows that the Celtics talk a good game. It’s pretty much become their trademark, and the bane of their foes. They enjoy beating teams, and humiliating them in the process.

Last night, that wasn’t the case in Charlotte, as the C’s lost in an overtime stunner to the Bobcats. Larry Brown’s crew had a simple mission last night, which they accomplished with elan: Not to be punked.

From the Boston Herald:

Among the glut of instructions scrawled on the Charlotte Bobcats’ locker room greaseboard before last night’s game was the following advice regarding Kevin Garnett: “Don’t get punked.”

“They come out and they try to punk you,” Charlotte rookie D.J. Augustin said of the Celts. “You can’t back away from them. We let them know we weren’t intimidated.”

This is obviously a philosophy that more and more teams around the League are going to have to adopt, if they plan on having a chance against the C’s. Well, that and making Rajon Rondo shoot jumpers all night long.

  • BETCATS Posted: Jan.7 at 11:03 am
But Gerald Wallace was talking junk to KG

  • ciolkstar Posted: Jan.7 at 11:05 am
Gerald Wallace is the real “beast mode”. Does anyone else think KG looks injured?

  • Harlem_World Posted: Jan.7 at 11:06 am
What’s funny to me is, when you look at teams from back in the day who thrived on intimidating teams, they usually had a core group of guys who COULD intimidate. Think the Knicks in the early 90’s with Oak, Ewing and X man. Bad boys from detroit had Laimbeer and Mahorn. C’s have KG and…? Big Baby? Ray Ray? Pierce? C’mon…I ain’t buying that. They are a talented team, no doubt, but they shouldn’t be intimidating anyone with any kind of physicality or whatever.

  • BETCATS Posted: Jan.7 at 11:08 am
KG looks retarded. I also enjoyed how he didnt do any of his crazy antics. THat shows he is not truly insane, he is just like that at home. Fan Pleasin Faker. HE is like a p0rn star faking a orgasm

  • riggs Posted: Jan.7 at 11:09 am
well they intimated last year so your point is moot?

  • riggs Posted: Jan.7 at 11:09 am
haha @ intimated, that sounds more like what they did these last few losses. intimidated*

  • Harlem_World Posted: Jan.7 at 11:14 am
riggs my point is, they are really sheep in wolves clothing. This is NOT to say they can’t play - but the whole intimidation thing is not for real. KG plays hard and is intense and I respect that, but as for anything physical or whatever? I don’t buy that. Anyone will drive the lane on Boston without fear of reprise.

  • Simon S.Y Lawy Posted: Jan.7 at 11:19 am
co-sign on riggs comment, they’re well INTIMIDATED. Boston BUSTED…

  • BETCATS Posted: Jan.7 at 11:20 am
    bust it……baaaaaaaaaaby

  • Simon S.Y Lawy Posted: Jan.7 at 11:21 am
Rondo keep shooting, keep shooting, too bad he ain’t the machine…

  • RyanL Posted: Jan.7 at 11:21 am
KG is all talk and no substance….if you stand up too him he’ll back away like a wuss….Anthony Peeler, Anthony Peeler, Anthony Peeler……………….

  • BETCATS Posted: Jan.7 at 11:22 am
Simon: their can only be one.

  • Todd Spehr Posted: Jan.7 at 12:00 pm
In an unrelated note, it’s nice to see Boris Diaw kicking ass on a regular basis

  • Eboy Posted: Jan.7 at 12:15 pm
Is there really anyone on the Celts you’d be afraid of?

  • Cupcake Posted: Jan.7 at 12:35 pm
This is way off topic, but I’m in my accounting class and I have to write a paper on accounting. Do any of you guys know anything about accounting? I know I don’t.

  • Anton Posted: Jan.7 at 12:35 pm
The stage is set for a Starbury save.

  • TADOne Posted: Jan.7 at 12:38 pm
I just think the Celtics look old.

  • TADOne Posted: Jan.7 at 12:39 pm
Probably because they are, you know. Someone needs to put Kendrick Perkins on a milk carton. Like yesterday.

  • Anton Posted: Jan.7 at 12:57 pm
Huge streak followed by a deep slump. 8th seed C’s?

  • dma Posted: Jan.7 at 1:06 pm
talk about how the NBA uses one of the biggest accounting firms to oversee the nba draft each year to “ensure” that the results aren’t faked.

  • Dutch Rich Posted: Jan.7 at 1:14 pm
Perk does have that group-home demeanor that most sane people would walk away from. He’s the screwface of the league, but he never really laid anyone out. Scal would have his back though. Guess the C’s have been figured out. It was only a matter of time. In my humble opinion Lakers-Cavs come june.

  • Anton Posted: Jan.7 at 1:21 pm
I’d prefer Hornets-Cavs or Hornets-Pistons. A win win for all.

  • Jukai Posted: Jan.7 at 1:31 pm
One of the reasons the Celtics are so good is that when ONE of the their stars aren’t performing, their two other stars can still score a boatload of points. Now the interesting problem here is that all three of them are sucking at the same time. Hmmm.

  • Z Posted: Jan.7 at 1:36 pm
If anything, Perk could lose it. KG, never. It’s not in his DNA and people are noticing. Quite frankly, it’s getting a little embarassing for him to do all that growling when everybody knows he doesn’t get down like that. The Celtics were intimidating LAST YEAR when everyone was afraid of getting blown out by 40 and the game was over by the middle of the 2nd quarter.

  • Fresh Posted: Jan.7 at 3:05 pm
KG is crazy and i love that about him he is so intense and crazy. but i think he does it more for himself then to intimidate. I think if you ask him he wont say he is trying to intimidate i think he is trying to pump himself up. Also with his desire for being excellent and never backing down he seems sort of confrontational

  • ciolkstar Posted: Jan.7 at 3:07 pm
KG only picks on white guys that he KNOWS he could take, but Perk is pretty damn rough. I gotta think that if someone took a shot at him, sh!t would be on. They don’t play in Beaumont.

  • BETCATS Posted: Jan.7 at 3:41 pm
and the fact of ESPN neglecting this win just proves to me that they hate the Bobcats

  • Candice Posted: Jan.7 at 3:54 pm
The Bobcats always played the C’s tough. It was nice to see them finally prevail.

  • collin Posted: Jan.7 at 4:13 pm
@Eboy, there actually is someone on the celts i would be afraid of; Glen Davis. if you piss him off, he’ll drown you with his tears.

  • dubya816 Posted: Jan.7 at 4:30 pm
Wow a lot of KG haters. I don’t like it. I’ve been loving this team my whole life and last year was heaven. This year we hit a rough patch but you guys can’t start talking about these guys just cuz they’re the best. As far as intimidation I’d be scared of a guy who was stabbed multiple times and still playin he’s tough. Ray Allen has videos on Youtube of him punkin out tons of guys. And KG nothing need be said he is an animal.
    Please lay off the hate.

  • G-O Posted: Jan.7 at 4:35 pm
Betcats when the c’s lost espn had it on the main page for a few hours

  • ciolkstar Posted: Jan.7 at 4:56 pm
Post the link to Ray Allen “punking out tons of guys” If you mean shooting 3s over them, then yeah. But Ray Ray was only tough in He Got Game.

  • Gerard Himself Posted: Jan.7 at 5:21 pm
I know he’s stuck behind KG - but I always like to see Leon Powe in the game. I like that dude, he gets it done.

  • Jackie Moon Posted: Jan.7 at 6:37 pm
Rick Fox was tough in He Got Game.

  • Dacre Posted: Jan.7 at 6:59 pm
Nbk will tell us whether the Celtics intimidate or not shortly…

  • Dacre Posted: Jan.7 at 8:02 pm
…using a series of statistics slightly remodeled to highlight the +/- ratio of taunts compared to offensive possessions quantified by whether players choose to take a jumpshot or drive and dish.

  • Moose Posted: Jan.7 at 8:03 pm
Gerard, from a Celtics’ fans POV, I agree with you. Better than Big Baby, and just a hard-nosed, hard-working player.

  • Hursty Posted: Jan.7 at 8:41 pm
Rick Fox was in He Got Game? wth?

  • Dutch Rich Posted: Jan.7 at 9:19 pm
Yeah he played like the west indian Hugh Hefner on campus. Every second was believable too. So much so that his marriage might have suffered permanent decay.

  • ClydeSays Posted: Jan.7 at 9:24 pm
These are the Bobcats playoffs, so they can have their talk.

  • Joey Posted: Jan.8 at 2:14 am
C’s lost AGAIN. this time to the Rockets and Von Wafer

  • ANJOE Posted: Jan.8 at 6:04 am
NOW what celtics.! started loosing last xmas day game against lakers huh… -hates KG alot.!

  • ab_40 Posted: Jan.8 at 7:50 am
they’ll be back… the lakers were slacking as well before the boston game… let’s hope the celts wake up for the cavs… they’re a scary team this year. teams better start winning cuz winning in cleveland is gonna be hard

  • Harlem_World Posted: Jan.8 at 9:42 am
When Von Wafer attempts to dunk on you, its pretty safe to say, you aren’t very intimidating.

  • vtrobot Posted: Jan.8 at 4:52 pm
The C’s are fine. So they’ve lost a bunch of games recently. The won 19 in a row, yes? That doesn’t matter anymore. I wouldn’t worry too much about a team that currently has one of the best records in the NBA. Lakers might not have been intimidated last year, but they sure were embarassed.
